DS5 silently says goodbye in another destination... - Streak 5 Accessories

i just accidentally found, that our device is now also discontinued in the German Dell online shop, but some of the auxiliaries come with discount now (eg. the home dock for 35.74€ with free shipping).
-gostl

Same in french Dell Store...
Accessories are too discounted here : the HDMI is now sold at 35,77€...

same in Hungary, not even available at official vendors

pretty sad really when i waited for it to be out for a while so the errors were less but now they start to discontinue it, think this is a tail to come for all countrys

Yep, not even a decent official Gingerbread update, the message Dell is sending is clear, 'we don't care', best bet, never buy a dell product again.

So sad, just like the Axim 51. Dell had better not wait three years before releasing another cracking good PDA, like it did after retiring the Axim 51.

I had the Axim 50 (?) ... lost it ... got a SHARP Zaurus C1000. Why did I come back to Dell with the ds5?

Best technology malls in shanghai(china)?

Next month I m going to china with my family. I've never been to china before.
I want to know the malls which have the technology stuff like PPCs, PPCPEs etc. I am thinking to buy an HTC alpine there(my sister is asking for it. she needs a fast PPC with loads of RAM.she rejected my htc wizard )
So, any great technology malls in china you guys know ??
i dont know about the tech malls, but a blueangel will beat an alpine anyday

He he. I have owned BA twice till now. But,it has always been little unfortunate for me. It is cursed to be doomed on the 30th day after its purchase. The first time I had bought it, it was smashed by my friend in our fights(I bricked his nokia 9500 ). Second time, on its 30th day of purchase, my mom spilled tea over it.
Interestingly, both the incidents happened right after 30days had passed
I have used alpine for some 60days and it was the best PPC I ever used. The speed of it was just too good and everything just opened in less than a second
You ought to check out with guys in China.. as probably units you get from China are likely to be in Chinese OS (as what you get mostly in PCs)
I've only been to Beijing, but I advise, when you go shopping, look for the more reputable shops, not the streetside/stalls. They will try and sell you an Alpine...but with counterfeit accessories like the memory card and battery. If the SD Card looks weird, don't buy it, as it's probably a fake. It may test out fine, but it will not usually work. If the salesman is particularly insistent about selling it to you, and keeps lowering the price, it's probably fake aswell.

HTC in stock at expansys uk

http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=163250
HTC Touch Diamond
can this be true, i have mine on pre-order
probably and a 500 quid it can stay in stock !! Thats a shocking price
I have not ordered from there, but i have been told 9th June at least , thats is expensive but how they got them so quick before everyone else
Thanks
Brian
Well thay are a massive company now and i guess have a close working relationship with HTC . Or they are grey imports in which case you will pay way way over the odds with a warranty in china or bermuda or somewhere silly.
The problem is is they are notorious for selling all new releases above the recommended price . I personally wont use them anymore as i feel they rip people off . By next week when everyone has stock they will drop there price but still not competetively !
It is us the consumer that keeps them afloat and as long as we keep buying from them at over inflated prices then who is the fool . I would love everyone to boycott them because of this but that urge for a new device can be pretty hard o resist at times . They know this and like leaches bleed you .
I have posted several posts in their forums on their over pricing and every single one of them has been removed . I think that speaks for itself really.
Yeah, they do tend to price things ridiculously. The funny thing is I don't mind a small premium in exchange for knowing that they are the cutting-edge gadget provider, who will get us the coolest gadgets first, but the key word is 'small'.
I think when the N95 8GB came out they had it at around £600 for a week or so.
expansys appear to have some tie up with htc - if you go through www.htc.com and goto uk as country then accesory shop - you end up on a site hosted by expansys - so I think that they are probably not grey imports and I also think they are milking the cash cow for being able to get them early....
Malarcy
Yeah, Expansys do seem to have them in stock. Personally, I'd rather save near £100 by waiting for a few days.
Yep Expansys is a rip off, they charge stupidly high prices for their phones...well the new upcoming ones like the Diamond. When i bought my N95 8gb , they were selling it for around £600!!!...thankfully i got one off ebay for £350 brand new.
Im actually dreading seeing the price for the new SE Xperia X1...wouldnt be surprised if they sell that at well over £600.
lol EXPANSYS uped the price again . They are so obvious !!
I would never buy from them again. Loads of other retailers around that are a lot cheaper
They got stung trying to do grey HP imports years ago, as non EU items sold in UK are not allowed, I would be very very suprised if they are grey imports, as they are breaking the law and I suspect most people would be sending them back, we have very good consumer laws here in UK.
Hello,
I ordered my Diamond english EU on May 7 in expansys.pt and today I received confirmation that I sent the Diamond English UK, tomorrow already have it here in Portugal
Someone can tell me if there is any difference between the English version EU and UK English ?!!??
It's also in stock at On The Go Solutions: http://www.htcphonestore.com/product.asp?itemMDL=HTC_DIAMOND

Grey Imports doesn't mean they are grey ;o) . I'm sure they are black. A grey import is a machine (Touch Diamond) that is for reasale in another country being sold in the wrong country.
EG Touch Diamonds ment for China being sold in the UK are classed as grey imports. Your warranty can only be delt with in China .. Hope this helps and thanks for making me smile.

Already seen that before posting.
The website shows it as UK item, they would be selling counterfeit goods if they are not UK (or EU), which means trading standards would be very interested.
And like you said HTC will be livid.
Expansys says that the warranty is HTC's Worldwide warranty. Still the price is a little bit too much.
Someone on the expansys forums has posted saying they ARE imports. Oh dear! I would say punish expansys and everyone send them back under the various laws they have broken and/or the sale of goods act/distant selling laws.
Bit odd that all the defaults are to Hong Kong
Makes you wonder where they were sourced from ... Still, loving it .. only had it a couple of hours and everyone in the office wants a play!
that's because it is a Hong Kong device that is not covered by HTC's global warranty.
If it dies, you'd have to send it back to Hong Kong to get it fixed!
An EU English device would default to Seattle timezones etc. Not Hong Kong.

Best Place To Buy A Touch Diamond

Hi,
This is my first post here, but the site is great and I've been coming back here for about 2 weeks while trying to decide if I should buy a diamond and I have to say the people, reviews and discussions have certainly swayed my choice into getting one. It was touch and go (pardon the pun) for a while after some initial bad reviews, but since the ROM update it seems everybody is a lot happier! I know it will take a bit of tweaking, but I'm a S/W engineer, so its nothing I'm afraid of, but it will be my first WM device, so I'm a little scared...
I nearly opted for the iPhone, but its a brick, if not a pretty cool device, but I want something that I can put in my pocket and use as a normal phone... I have an iPod for music and videos, a phone is a phone (but the GPS rocks)
Anyway, I digress, I do have only 2 questions and the first one is pretty redundant from reading this forum, but here goes:
I saw a Touch Diamond for sale on eBay and the guy selling it said that he was selling it because he was disappointed because when he came to use the GPS it was a lie and that he needed an extra component and had to carry something else around? Whats all this about. I did freak a little when I read in all the spec sheets that it was GPS "READY"... what does READY mean? I assume it comes with it all from reading the reviews.
Second question, since my mind is pretty made up and I will be getting one, where is the best place to buy one (for the UK, and UK spec) I'm not looking for cheapness, as i know they are knew and average is around £450ish (inc VAT and Delivery) but dunno where to get one from (Not eBay anyway) any advice on the best online shop, or if anybody knows of any shops that sell them (in Manchester) that would be great.
Thanks for any help in advance!
DG
Plenty of places in the UK to buy them from, if you had done a search you would have found a thread that listed all the places in UK that are selling them and they are uk spec.
But for you ill name a few:
www.expansys.com now have the official uk spec Diamonds
www.clove.co.uk
www.play.com
www.totalpda.co.uk
www.powerupmobile.com
www.htcdirect.co.uk
those are your best bets...think Expansys is based in Manchester but dont know if they allow you to go there and pick up the phone...best to ring them i suppose.
I would recommend Play.com. Never had any problems with them and at the moment it's only £399.99 with free delivery. Others sell it for about £435 or £440.
Yeah, sorry, should have done a search, but battery was dying on the laptop and no plug in sight!
Anyway, thanks for the links guys. I did heard that expansys were selling non official versions and thats one reason I asked, I have used them before but for nothing really as expensive as this.
Thats really cheap for Play, I may used them since I have an account with them...somewhere!
Now I will have the agonising wait and ensuing dissapointment that when I wake up the postman hasn't brought it its going to be a LONG week!

The general consensus is that this is only if you're a business customer buying an additional handset for your account.
Surely if most places are selling it for £400+ Vodafone won't be giving them away with no contract?!
I saw the eBay one with the guy saying no GPS too - and got a bit worried about my pre order one. I actually emailed him and asked about it. He replied saying it was GPS Ready, but needed additional hardware. After a bit of research I emailed him back again saying I was sure it definately had it built in - within another day the auction had closed early!
Whether he'd done a quick sale, or realised his error - who knows?!
Play is the best price - unless you can get a bargain on eBay. Watch out for 'Next Day' sellers whos small print says a week+ unless you pay extra postage!
WARNING!!! if you buy from play.com in the UK, you'll have to pay VAT tax as the unit will probably be held up in customs.. reason being, Play.com ships from a tax free zone.
It's clearly stated in their terms & conditions that the customer is responsible for taxes. Read the fine print!!
2ndly, I called HTC UK the other day and they told me play.com isn't an authorised dealer so you won't get full UK warranty. I'm serious.. a girl at HTC told me...
If it is a USA order
If you are in the US, then the best place to buy the phone is from Ryan at Negri Electronics. I had a problem with the first two phones (the first was a power issue, the second was wifi). I emailed them in the morning, and by the afternoon I had a UPS overnight tracking order. They included return labels, and it was no questions asked. I have bought all my luxry phones starting back at the Nokia 8800 and up til now (yes I have a addiction for cell phones). NEVER HAD A SINGLE ISSUE! The Diamond also registered on the HTC site. The phone is shrink wrapped in the retail package (he has a network, and actually travels to get the product on or before release that are not grey's). Price my be higher or lower but not by much. I trully think its worth it, because you don't have to wonder about what your are getting or when. They ship the next business day (I gotta give them credit on their speed and customer service. The answer emails right away, and phone calls are 99% answered, and messages are returned immediately.
Heres the direct link: DIAMOND- http://www.negrielectronics.com/touch-diamond-unlocked-p-1506.html
DIAMOND PRO: http://www.negrielectronics.com/htc-touch-pro-p-1530.html
Desktop CRADLE: http://www.negrielectronics.com/touch-diamond-desktop-cradle-g300-p-1526.html
Mine is perfect. They really have their business together.
PS: This is not an advertisement, this is my honest opinion. I have made purchase from expansys (paid for overnight, got it a week later).
Do we know when UK networks are gonna start selling these on contracts?
Im assuming all of them are branding this phone?

Tmobile will be doing them from end of the month from what i have heard..as for voda, orange and o2 they will be carrying it but dont really know when...possibly July??.
As for branding??..yep you can be 110% sure that they will be all branded to some extent. As usual Tmobile will make sure its locked to their network and probably Orange. Voda and o2 will probably sell it unlocked but with their branding on it.

Mine shows up as 1 year as well... but with the following message:
Note: Your POP (Proof of Purchase) determines your warranty period. If you cannot provide your POP, your product will be warranted within the above period.
any ideas?? am I still entitled to 2 years warranty??

$191 Opal at GadgetCircle/TimTechs/Plemix [legit?]

First of all I would like to say wow! What an amazing forum. Best I've seen on anything relating to Winmo.
After seeing so much advancement at Opal development (including the recent rom for 6.5), I began thinking of getting one myself. The cheapest one I found was
$191 at gadget circle
then
$219 at TimTechs
and
$226 at Plemix
Are these deal too good to be true? Anyone have any past experience with these dealers?
Thanks!
Here in Italy I buyed it for € 250,00 about two months ago
man i wish i would have seen this sooner. i just ordered mine, 236 shipped.
oh well, just my luck. but it will be here soon so oh well.
plemix takes 10 dollars off of orders if you use the youtube10 redemtion code.
ive never really looked, or heard of gadget circle (guess i should book mark it). i have heard of timtechs
shipping prices at gadget circle dont seem right, less than 6 dollars? i dont know about that
I ordered my phone from Timtechs. It came to $250 with shipping. I ordered it very early Tuesday morning like 1 am. I got it today at 10am it was the fastest shipping ever. The phone came just as expected the box was a lil' beat up but i think that is fedex and they gave me the CDs and manuals for the touch 3G but that fine really didn't need them anyway. What they don't tell you is that it ships from Hong Kong. I wasn't till i got the fedex tracking did i see where it came from. On their site it said it was based in DE but i got my phone all the same so I don't care. Overall I have been very happy with my experience with them, and I probably would/going to order from them again. And they even gave me a niffy Timtechs sack YAY!
PS I think gadgetcircle and timtechs are the same company. their website look very similar and customer service description are the exact same. and to get a phone shipped to the US I had to order more than $400 on gadgetciricle
Sorry about that skaroger. And thanks for the tip
Good to hear that ginronin. Thanks for the input as well.
its all good man, set to be here tomorrow. and i ordered thursday.
191 is a hell of a price, especially if its true. i wouldnt pass up on that if you were thinking of purchasing one.
i already got a bunch of software ready to install when i get my phone

Really Bugs me!!! Can't find Accessories locally!!!

This Really Bugs me!!! Can't find ANY Dell Streak 5 Accessories locally!!!
I've tried to find a leather case, faceplate of any kind, Touch-Screen Stylus at:
4 Best Buys
4 Malls
10 AT&T dealers/Stores
in the Seattle / Tacoma area and not one of them have anything for the Dell Streak 5! Not one!
None of the stores had a good explanation... just a lot of excuses.
The guy who sold me the Streak basically lied to me saying, "sure they will have some accessories within a week." He also said that Foyo 2.2 was coming any day. That was a month ago. He just wanted to make a sale.
What's up with all that???
Now I'm forced to buy online...
never go to worst buy

Hate to tell u that accessories are difficult to find in stores.
I basically got most of mine online. Even then the best companies dont have it.
Froyo is out for most of the dell versions.

I did get get Froyo 2.2 installed last week. Really improved the phone.
What I meant about this in my first post was the Dealer lied about Dell having it available as an update within a week. He knew that wasn't true. Just like saying they would have accessories within a week too. Just trying to make a sale.
As for no one locally carrying accessories, that's really too bad as the Streak is a fabulous phone. I gave up a iPhone3, Captivate for this and really like it. However, look at all the local stuff you can get for the iPhone in all the stores! One of the stores I went to said it was Dell fault as they restricted the sales of accessories so that you were forced to order from them. If so, that is really STUPID and greedy!!!
Dell did make some mistakes with phones.
One being the PDMI port. Its actually such a great thing , however its still very new.
Many developers have not incorporated it into their products.
Also dell has marketed this phone terribly. Even ATT does not know they have this under them.
