HI ALL. first about my phone.
OPTIMUS 2X Canadian
Android version: 2.2.2
Kernel version:2.6.32.9
Baseband version:1035.21_20110823
Builder number:FRG83G
LGE Version LGP990hN-V21B
its rooted and have latest CMW on it.
now the question!
this is my primary phone that im using every day to wake up to navigate with gps to go to internet on wifi and 3g. camera everething!
so what rom i can put on it without changing baseband and so on. is there rom that can put on sd card and flash it?
You can flash CyanogenMod 7 ROMs or Official stock Gingerbread based ROMs, whatever you want. Baseband works with every ROM.
Concerning the procedure, you should rather read several howto in Dev section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037751
To root if not done, you can use Superoneclick as you are on Froyo.

i can just put it on sdcard and install it from CWM?
Yes like any other ROM... I think you mean ROM that won't replace your Baseband? Every ROM that is not clearly intended to be flashed with nvflash or smartflash will do it: Thanatos, Topogigi, Djdroid, CM7, and so on are all in CWM format.
wanted to install the rom. but before wanted to make a back up of my system! now when im doing backup from CWM its backing it up to the internal memory! not to the sdcard! is it normal?
from where you flash the CWM?? from rom manager or from rusty?
i flash the CWM from rusty and choose for external sd-card. every time i backup my system it always backup to external SD card
I'm doing power button +volume down. then selekting back up to external sdcard. but it saves it to internal
just did one more time backup. its processing and generating everething but when it comes to back up to sd_ext it shows no sd_ext found skiping the process.
the card is instaled and have about 7GB free spase, the CWM sees it as i instaled camera mod from there before.

I think I will give up after this answer. Don't bother about sd-ext it isn't used in O2X, and has nothing to do with sdcard.
Read again and again and again first post in Rusty! thread about his CWM version and you'll perhaps understand how to flash it to have external sdcard used....

As i understand from your earlier message, your device is already rooted. Why dont you try installing the ROM manager from the android market and then in the ROM manager settings you can choose to backup in the Ext SD card or the internal one.
goto settings-use external storage-click and then power down your device. Start with CWM-Power + Vol down key...now you have the backup stored in Ext SD card.
Hope this answers your question...Thanks...

Try the Topo 2 SP3 ROM with HorsePower SR1 Kernel. It has some LG stuff though...but, it is very stable with all the goodies of GB 2.3.4. I used a few ROMs and settled on this cause of the stability and battery performance. There are a few themes for this ROM to customize.....although there are a few more ROMs in the dev section.
You have to flash and check ROMs if you have the time and information...if you want to have more information...maybe you can PM me. I can help you.
Thanks
My rule of thumb would be:
If you want stability, stick with stock. If you want bleeding edge, use an AOSP rom.

What is the best ROM available?
Really depends on your needs are priorities. Totally bug-free ROMs are Froyo ROMs, and leaked stock Gingerbread ROMs. CM7 based ROMs, including MIUI, still have a few bugs. Go to appropriate threads for more details.
Can I get LG Apps and Widgets on CM7 ROM?
No, you can't. LG apps and widgets require the LG framework, and so will not work on non-stock based ROMs.
What are kernels? Should I install custom kernels?
It is sort of a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done by the hardware. Custom kernels provide added features such as EXT4, Voodoo sound, and many more. You can install a kernel just like you install a ROM.

can lg 2x have 850 1900 band?
thinking about getting me one, is the lg 2x stock rom "broken" heard a lot of bad things about it. what are the common problems with the phone? is there a way to get pure google on it ?
Stock Apps
Hi,
Took my O2XS to CyanogenMod 7.1.0 RC1, but I'm wondering how I could get the (stock?) FM Radio, the HDMI output and the (stock?) camera app working again. I don't miss the radio all that much, but to have the LG camera app would be great, since it has nice features I haven't seen in other camera apps. HDMI output doesn't do anything at all at the moment.
And please tell me when I posted this in the wrong section.
Thanks, Ippe

The stock ROM had some problems, causing the device to reboot spontaneously. That bug is fixed with some update: v10c. But you could get root and fix the O2XS up with another ROM, say CyanogenMod 7.1.0 (Android version 2.3.4).
I have mine several months now and I'm very happy with it. A minus could be the battery emptying fast, but so do all other smartpowerphones.
What I like best, is the dual core processor (fast!) and HDMI. It's easy to plug the O2XS into any TV and watch videos.
But of course you have to decide for yourself. Hope this here helps making a decision.
In CM7, you cant use HDMI to tv?

[Q] Custom partiation table?
Is it not possible through some way, to repartition the LG Optimus 2x so that all the InternalSD becomes internal storage on the phone. End result being a phone with ~8gigs internal storage and the proper linking of the External SD?
Or a repartition that simply resizes the InternalSD to ex 20 megs and moving the excess space to "Phone Storage". And then "bind" ExternalSD to /sdcard and thus getting the best of both worlds.
Hi,
I'm coming from a Desire Z but i'm not new to the android world.
i'll try to list here all the doubt i've with the O2X, I apologise in advance for the big number of question but I'll appreciate very much if you take your time and answer at all the question, so i'll not bother you anymore
1) Is there a rom based on v10c with all the necessary fix i've read in the sticked post?(perfomance, camera, etc...) In many roms they are not listed :/
2) After I've rooted, I'm able to unroot with the same tool? Or I've to make a backup of some internal partition?
3) What's the ext3 / ext4 problem I read in some rom thread? Maybe some roms use an ext4 system partition and the stock roms ext3 system partition?to change the partition File System, is necessary a specific recovery or tool?
4) How does it work the corelation baseband/rom? Every rom works with any kind of baseband, or it is necessary flash a specific baseband for a specific rom as i've read in some post?
5) If I doesn't have an external SD, there is some problem with the recovery? And if I insert next? it doesn't change the mount point of the internal SD right?
6) Why modaco doens't specify in what type of original rom version are based his roms?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my english.

Guys i need some help on creating my own rom..
I tried adb pulling entire /system and flashing that (ofcourse with scripts for cwm) but i failed to boot it.
Any suggestions for me ?
Have you tried the kitchen? It's designed for that... try searching for it.
Hey Rusty,
ive made a kitchen rom here http://romkitchen.org/lg/?s=generator
after that i replaced the apps in /system/app with mine, then zipped again but it wouldnt boot ?
Bleh, v10B is proper out of date anyway.
now i'm having a big problem after trying to flash other rom of cm7 without wiping
my phone can't do hard reset at all....... is there anyway to put it alive????
Boot into recovery and wipe.
Hi guys,
pls can u tell me,what is new in #49 rel.?
I want to instal that #49,im currently at stock 2.2.2 rom.
My BB is : 1035.21_20110405
Phone is rooted and new cwm recovery installed from ROM Manager.
I wonder what works and what doesnt work in this #49.
Can i freely install this rel. or should i wait for some new rel.
Im not advanced user.
Thank you
Well, thats for you to find out with your curiosity.
Allow me to ask you. What is the difference between Android froyo and Gingerbread? Haha, huge different. Install it i believe you wouldn't regret.
As stated, video fails sometimes, but i haven't faces any fail recently... Other then that, i personally thinks its flawless.
Cheers goodluck
Thank u for reply,
i'll install it , just need to find SD card large enough to do a backup first.
Just to ask...
steps?
1.backup stock rom and data from recovery
2.clean/wipe data
3.install zip from SD card
4.wait to complete updating
5.enjoy?
am right?
One more question...
Battery life? Now my battery life is about 10h most.
Thank u
It doesn't matter an advanced user or not. And in that case, the CM7 nightly builds shouldn't be much of a problem for you. I haven't tried the CM7#49 personally, but i tried the #48 build and i found it to be pretty good. everything was working fine.

Why don't you just read the CM7 thread? Everything is written there:
INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM 7 to your Optimus 2X (or coming from another ROM)?
1. Root your device
2. Install ROM Manager (search the market for it, no need to use the Premium version), and from there install ClockworkMod Recovery
3. Do a Nandroid backup!
4. WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
5. Install the ROM
6. Optionally install the Google Addon
Thanks for reply,i‘ll do that.

Hi Forum
I'm still a newbie in all this android business, I try to read as many threads as possible before asking questions, however I just read A LOT about this MIUI, and people said there was released one for Optimus 2X? I just can't find it anywhere on the MIUI site.
Also if I do want this, how do I go about installing it? Can something go bad? I just don't want to brick my phone as I was close to doing so when I was playing around with flashing my SE phones
Help would be greatly appreciated
Kind Regards
~Neefy
Hi, you might wanna start and flash CyanogenMod first, also that is the best path to MIUI since the whole structure of MIUI for O2X is CM7. So go ahead to the CM7 thread and follow the guide there (I believe there is one).
I can't however tell you that not everything will go OK, since I don't know what knowledge do you have, but just be careful and everything will go great.
As for the MIUI installation it is somewhere in the only miui Thread at the moment in the development section.

miui germany .de celebration HD beta version ^^
i think they removed the link
I found the link, but what is the process? I understand I have to install RomManager, then clockworkrecovery, place the miui .zip on my SD card (only got internal, is that ok?), boot into recovery, "install from zip"
Is that all? Anything I need to do before?
i am also interested in this
Anyone with time and generosity who wants to help us newbies ?
External is needed if I'm right someone may be able to back me up with that but basically use rom manager to flash clockwork mod recovery (cwm). Use volume buttons to move up and down Recovery menu and power button to select, it's recommended to make a nandroid backup before flashing so you always have an go back to how it was if anything goes wrong. Next step after backup is to factory reset, wipe cache partition, go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache and battery stats. Now go to install zip from sd card and then choose zip from sd card and select your rom and flash and reboot. I'm new to this also so hope this helps.

but where does one get the zip image
The zip file is no problem, are you sure about the external SD thing tho? I don't have one
if you wqnt to flash roms you should get one. i got a 16gb one for about 14 euros from amazon
Could you link me to that ?

Wrong ! There are 2 versions of CWM. One for external and one for internal.
Go to dev section and search
As others have said, start with cyanogen to "cut you teeth" and then you can move to the MIUI ROM
MIUIUIUIUIUI is *dogshite* awful, but the installation process still remains the same. Flash zip. You do not need an external SD, you just need to read a bit more on recovery mounts.
Personally, CYANOGENMOD ALL THE WAY.
But what is the point installing cynagenmod and then installing MIUI right after?
the current MIUI for o2x is based off CM7.
But wouldn't it be the same as installing it from Stock in comparison to installing it from CM, won't I have to wipe and factory everything anyway?
Please clarify As said, I'm still very new to all of this!
if you are concern about bricking i suggest u make a nandroid backup or have another working rom on your sdcard. other than that process is the same.
Is there any way to do this without internet connection on my phone? My carrier stopped my internet connection because I forgot a bill I can't get rom manager due to not being able to get to market, any .apk or such?
Hey Guys,
Yes it is my first post on this Forum but I've been looking many thread and no one awnser correctly...(I wish im the good section for this)
So i'm trying to install Cyanogenmod on my Optimus 2X and I can't install the Clockwordmod Recovery for some reason.
Here's what I did :
1. Install LG Drivers
2. Root Phone with SuperOneClickRoot
3. Download Rom Manager
4. Flash ClockWordMod Recovery
After that it restore and BootLoop until death
The only thing I can do is remove the battery, push Volume Down and Power and the Android Recovery Manager Wipe all my data.
I also made a Video of all the steps
watch?v=vMRcYgjtf7o (I can't post Direct link since i'm a new member..)
Hello!
Can you get in the recovery system?
Did you place a copy of a downloaded CM7-ROM on your external SD card?
If yes - just go to choose .zip from SD and flash it - after that you should be good to go.
BTW: I can recommend the KANG build by koboltzz(http://bit.ly/sbUogR) - works for me and is compatible with the ironkrnL.
And don't forget you may need LG-Ril from the market since the RIL included in the CM-ROMs is always 0218 and you almost probably come from 0725 or something else - and the RIL should match your baseband - LG-Ril Version will take care of this...
Greetings
Medizinmann
No actually I can't access to the Recovery, that's the problem...
I Updated my first post with my video.
Also : What I'm suppose to do with the LG-Ril, I can see and change my Ril but everytime it say : The Ril dosent match with you Baseband...
Is your phone an Optimus 2x Wind?
Don't quote me on this but isn't that a g2x if it's a wind? Like the American one? So it needs the g2x recovery and ROMs? Or am I just talking out of my arse?
Sorry if I'm going down to the wrong road.
I finnaly made it work,
To Flash the CWM Recovery I used the NvFlasher (Work Great) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Then I had some problems installing CM7 I looked up a bit and you were right @Fulwood Sedge I have the P999 version not the P990 wich is slighly different -_-".
Now I have CM7 Nightly running.
Thank You guys for the Help.
Last question : What Rom you guys recommend for best performance and everyday use ?
I'm using miui ATM and I totally love it. The UI changes on it are quality IMO. It's completely different look and feel and that's what I really like. And that's what I wanted from a custom rom.
Check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350761&highlight=Best+rom
It's been going for quite a while now so it gives up a good idea. But those are p990 ROMs and those won't work on your phone. So might be best to see if there is similar thread in p999 forum.
I use my phone 3-4 hours a day and I would not use anything other than Cm7 with vorkkernal. Love it, battery life is good, phone is stupid fast and basically everything works.
accelerometer calibration is a bit off though? Trials 2x doesn't really work as the acceleormeter isn't sensitive enough to tilt left/right. But rotating in web browsing etc works fine.

Did you wiped/format all partitions before flashing cm7 ? It's mandatory when you change totally of ROM type.
You'd better use nightly, links are on the cm7 nightly download page.
In cm7 internal sdcard is mounted as /mnt/emmc. External is mounted as /mnt/sdcard.
Last thing: the file you grabbed is not a cwm file but a smartflash one I guess....
no way you can use CWM with that version. it only can use with smartflash

Last thing: the file you grabbed is not a cwm file but a smartflash one I guess....

Yes your right I see that now, would I be able to use that with smartflash to get my phone unbricked? What would someone suggest?

I used the nightly to no success, same old and yes I wiped the data, cache's. I am looking at using smartflash and stock ROM I found here on XDA

Personal note November 20:Let's face it:
After all stock ICS currently just is no good for many people's everyday use. While it does perform very well for many other people.
Cocluding from my own ICS usage experience with the latest v28E & v28G builds:
stock ICS indeed is very smooth while scrolling, even without a custom kernel
but unfortunately with rising workload it starts hanging and lagging annoyingly much (on my own phone)
for many people it is just not stable enough (yet)
More specifically today I've made new versions / rebuilds of my stock Gingerbread kernel and my Stock GB GoodBye ROM v2.0 (The rebuilt and updated ROM has just been released (NOV 20 2012).) and came to following conclusions (for my own phone):
GoodBye ROM is smoother than my current ICS builds and stays smooth
GoodBye ROM is more stable than my current ICS builds
GoodBye ROM is more energy efficient than my current ICS builds
GoodBye ROM is faster than my current ICS builds
GoodBye ROM offers a highly tweakable custom kernel and TrymHansen's outstanding GuesteOC app
So many people have written that this ICS ROM is a great ROM, well I can promise you guys, if you already like this quite non-perfect ICS, you will for sure love my Gingerbread Goodbye ROM v2.0R !
In case you guys haven't tried it yet, I'd be happy if you do so. I've put quite much effort in the latest versions.
So if ICS does not work good for you on your phone and you want a ROM smoother, faster, more stable and more energy saving than my currently offered ICS builds, then you might want to try this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34379632&postcount=267 (NVFlash versions available)
What does all this mean?
I'm temporarily going back to my Gingerbread ROM for my personal use
I'll watch further ICS development from there, everyone is free to join me
I will continue updating this ROM to the latest ICS bases as usual, just don't use them myself until performance and stability improves

Essential update November 16:
New NVFlash versions (v28E & v28G) are available.
New features:
fixed bootloader, so Smartflash will work again for everyone
CMW Recovery 6, no more too big font in CWM, also no more /cache errors [edit: if you still get them: just format /cache partition in CWM]
fixing sizes of recovery partition and boot partition
NO full wipe required!! New NVFlash version can backup your /data partition and restore later (Internal SD will still be wiped!)
Noob-secure flashing process. Telling the user exactly what to do and asks for confirmation before doing anything.
Stock LG ICS content for internal SD card can be flashed as well (user is asked) - gives some extra music, apps, videos
No more deodexed version. I think odexed works best.
Google Now (Online-version) preinstalled, still about 25 MB free space in /system partition
additional widgets from SU660 preinstalled
the new installation scripts are available for both Windows and Linux (tested by me extensively)
Windows APX driver included (for Linux not needed)
hopefully no more battery drainage problems on v28G version
some minor things. A custom kernel by me will come as soon as we get the final kernel sources!
New CWM ZIPs are available as well! Please be aware that they do not upgrade bootloader (=fix of Smartflash Bug), CWM (from 5 to 6) or fix partition sizes for boot and recovery partition (were too small, could cause problems lateron). Only NVFlash version does that. So you might prefer to, as a one-time-upgrade, use NVFlash version. You can, with the new NVFlash versions, backup and restore your /data partition, so your settings and apps won't be lost. Only Internal SD will still be wiped.
The new ICS builds are available in download folder, in subfolder "Second Generation ROMs (improved, recommended)".

About the CWM for new bootloader:
made by me thanks to help and files by wkpark - this guy is really knowledgeable!
Enjoy: It is still possible to enter CWM DIRECTLY through pressing "VOL -" AND POWER !!!!
This ROM is for ...
those who want to easily change to the new Stock ICS bootloader, partitioning layout and kernel
those who want everything to be CLEAN STOCK and still want to have all features like root, CWM and so on
the DEVs who need a solid base for making their custom ROMs out of - feel free to take this ROM as base for your ICS custom ROMs!! - you can make them as CWM versions, because everyone who is using this ROM can flash your custom ROM easily with CWM then.
those who want to use it as a stable and smooth daily driver
those who have bricked their device and need to unbrick it (NVFlash version)
those who want to switch from Gingerbread or CM10 with older bootloader and different partitioning directly to ICS v28G (NVFlash version)
those who want to get the currently best possible base for later installation of custom kernels and custom ROMs (CWM flashable) released for the new bootloader and partitioning design
those who want a very simple installation and a rock-solid system
those who want the Stock ICS, but just a bit better - with essential tweaks like ad blocking, init.d, ramdisk optimizations, full adb support, facelock, some LG crapware removed (only two apps, keeping it as stock as possible), CWM added, rooted,...
This ROM combines providing as much features as possible while still staying as much stock as possible! It comes with original new LG ICS bootloader (unlocked), with original v28G kernel (no changes needed), original new LG ICS partitioning layout and of course ALL original v28G apps except 2 useless ones

Installation NVFlash version (under Windows): (internal SD will be wiped, /data partiton can be saved and restored with 2nd generation builds)
download the ROM, unpack it with WinRar, 7Zip or similar to any folder you want
take battery out of phone, press VOL + AND VOL - simulataneously, and while doing this plug the phone via USB to your PC
screen of phone remains black, this is normal, but you should hear a sound that you plugged the device. Probably you have to install APX drivers at this point if you are asked. They are included in the latest NVFlash builds. Tutorial on driver installation: http://www.modaco.com/topic/335416-nvflash-setup-instructions-drivers-links-active/
assuming that you already installed APX drivers: run the "flash_windows.bat" file in the folder where you extracted the ROM
follow the instructions
That's already it Usually no complications to be feared. Enjoy!
Installation NVFlash version (under Linux): (internal SD will be wiped, /data partiton can be saved and restored with 2nd generation builds)
download the ROM, unpack it with WinRar, 7Zip or similar to any folder you want
take battery out of phone, press VOL + AND VOL - simulataneously, and while doing this plug the phone via USB to your PC
screen of phone remains black, this is normal, but you should hear a sound that you plugged the device (eventually you don't hear a sound but it still should work).
run the "flash_linux.sh" file in the folder where you extracted the ROM (make sure it is executeable, else chmod accordingly, also the NVFlash binary)
follow the instructions
That's already it Usually no complications to be feared. Enjoy!
CWM version (no full wipe required): - for those who are already on new bootloader, partition layout and CWM -> they can re-flash this ROM without full wipe. Do NOT use it when you are on old bootloader currently (GB, CM7, CM10)!
Installation CWM version: = NO required Full wipe
make sure you are already on latest bootloader, partition layout and CWM
copy the zip on your SD, install via CWM - if you want a full-wipe, do one before. Cache and Dalvik Cache gets automatically wiped.
That's already it Boot and enjoy!
Bugs:
Android Terminal emulator needs an update from Play Store, else it will crash when you open it. Updating fixes it.
To prevent WIFI from not working:
I'm not sure in how far BB is related to WIFI, but I'd recommend upgrading to latest BB if you don't have it already :good:
Some user who reported WIFI stopped working was on a very old BB.
ALSO: on setup wizard after ROM installation it's recommended NOT to import / restore old phone settings from your google account. The imported WIFI settings will in some cases break your WIFI. Try to clear all WIFI data in case you did and WIFI is broken.

For the people with broken WLAN: In the beginning it was not working at all for me too. Google restored my saved networks and somehow this wasn't working with the ROM. I deleted the saved networks and WLAN is working now.

About going back to different ROMs and backups NOT made under the new bootloader:
it is not possible to restore CWM backups with this ROM that have been made using a different partitioning layout and bootloader. So you can only go back to GB or CM7 / 10 with per example NVFlash and then restore your saved backup with CWM there. But do not restore it while still being on ICS layout.
But restoring is possible:
- you are on CM7/10, make CWM backup, save backup to pc
- you flash this ROM with NVFlash, decide to go back to CM10 with NVFlash again and there you can flash your CWM backup you saved on your PC before.
New bootloader and layout are still very *new*, that's why there currently don't exist any ROMs you could flash with the CWM of this ROM. You can flash app packages and stuff but nor ROMs or ICS kernels not made for the new bootloader.

Same question here, Stefan. As a suggestion, maybe you can add these two apps as separate downloads for those who might still want them? None the less, great job!
Thank you for the credits, by the way
Edit: you already answered. Damn, you're quick hehe
This rom is laging or super smooth?

It's quite the same as original ICS, maybe a bit smoother. But it has CWM and is prepared to get my new kernel in a few days, then nothing will lag anymore
Thanks Stefan.
Two Quick questions. If I want to roll back to CM7 from this rom, can I a) simply reflash a CMW back of CM7 or b) NVflash a GB stock rom then CMW restore from CM7.
Is this rom any lighter on battery or any smoother in general than a CM7 rom?
Going to try it, just would like to know what I'm getting into before I do.
Is it possible to use CWM 6? Because in tonyp´s version you need 5.2,x
Thank you for providing this rom!
One (maybe stupid) question:
Does anyone know how lg will rollout the update? I can't imagine they will force every user to loose all data on internal sd...

This ROM still is missing a proper custom kernel - so for now there is room for smoothness improvement in my opinion. But everything is prepared for receival of custom kernel. Just a few days.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975274 -> with that you can go back directly to CM10 (and then flash CM7 if you want).
However, it is not possible to restore CWM backups with this ROM that have been made using a different partitioning layout. So you can only go back to GB or CM7 / 10 with per example NVFlash and then restore your saved backup with CWM there. But do not restore it while still being on ICS layout.
It's awesome to see another ICS stock ROM avaiable here, you are COOL Stefan.
Just a quick question while downloading:
are you aware the small problems from harsh and tonyp's work?
- BSOD, many ppl including me have experienced today.
- call voice problem after a while a using (harsh meant that he is working on it)
- slow charging (some ppl claims with USB it is very slow)
if yes, have you done anything with them?
THANKS again, you guys are really heros.
Sturmtruppler maybe they wil give a warning that you must backup your internal sd else you wil loose your stuff and that you must update
With Lg updater software from pc in s/w upgrade mode
I think
