Is there any gpu overclocking app for captivate.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Not for the stock kernel. You would need to change to a different kernel that supports overclocking.
No, there is not a way to oc the gpu, just the cpu.

Good call, I need to read more carefully....
Doesn't MIUI allow this with glitch? or is it that glitch has the gpu already oc'd by default... Dont remember

I'm far from an OC expert, but kernels supporting Live OC allow you to OC the bus, which affects RAM and GPU. However, I thought that it was really just increasing RAM speeds, which in turn helped the GPU a bit since it uses the same RAM. That's why if you overclock the BUS you start getting visual artifacts: because the data was getting corrupted in RAM on it's way to the GPU.
Or I'm out in left field, which is never out of the realm of possibility.
I have no clue. I just remember reading something on glitch v13 on gpu oc and MIUI. Never tried it, don't know the theory. Was just asking couse i remember reading it xD

Yes there is GPU OC on Glitch kernel for GB!

I figured it was only a matter of time before you wandered in here and set us straight. Thanks!
Was that meant in a good or bad way, cuz I am only sharing my knowledge with yall, you should be happy I am!
How do you know which kernel supports OC CPU \ GPU?
Also, I guess there are some apps which let you OC your CPU \ GPU, aren't they independent of the kernel? (I might be completely off-track here, but I had to ask)
I recently flashed OneCosmic's ICS ROM and Nushor's kernel (v3189) to my Captivate.

A custom kernel is required to OC anything. GPU over clock that is user control able requires a kernel that supports live OC.

I think chain fire 3d is your only option with regard to enhancing/modifying GPU. I highly recommend using it if you like to play the "3d" games without lag

Hello world,
my 8.9 tab doesn´t run stable on 1,4 or even on 1,2 GHz (just a bit more stable on 1,2 GHz). So maybe i need to increase the voltage of my CPU. I am no newbie to OCing, but new to OCing Android Devices. I am on ICS Stock ROM and A1 1.7.X KERNEL. Maybe someone gives me a hint what i need? I already bought SETCpu some months ago. but i am only allowed to set lower voltages than the standard voltage. like max. 1175mv on 1,2GHz....but allowed up to 1375mV on 1,6 GHz (instant freeze on this setting).
is there any possibility for me to increase the voltages?

the kernel needs to support OC'ing
Try the 1.8.3c-kernel. Works great for me.
Sent from my GT-P7310 using xda app-developers app
i updated to the newest 1.8.3c
but it´s still unstable and i can´t overvolt either.
maybe it´s not possible? are you able to sitch the voltage to a higher level than standard? For example more than 1175mV at 1,2 GHz
I have installed an app called CPU tweaker, which seems to allow increasing voltage
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.st.CPU
It is a subset of this system tuner app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.pmw
Try that and let us know
Disclaimer: I have NOT used this app myself for what you are suggesting.
thank you a lot. it works! now i have to figure out whats the best setting. maybe i´ve used the wrong keywords to search. And yes, i know the risk.
Hi everyone, I'm a noob in this case, so I wuold ask you something...
Yesterday I rooted my inc s but even if I can now download games like "fast & furious 6" it won't work even if I overclocked the CPU.
My question now is:" How could I install a new kernel to increase the GPU bandwidth limit?
I downloaded "Beastmode Incredible S" kernel but I don't know how to proceed.
Hope u can help me. Thx!

Uhh device information?
And also if a game does not work on your phone, it means it doesn't work. I doubt increasing GPU bandwidth limit or overclocking would make it work. It would certainly increase performance but it wudn't make something work.
And to install a kernel, we REALLY need to know your device details.

Hi, thx for the reply, I start saying that I need to oc the gpu because some games (games that work with my phonenot like fnf6) lag a bit. I'm sure it's not a cpu problem 'cause I raised it to 1.4 ghz using a conservative governor, but I think it's a gpu problem.
In this case could u tell me what I have to do and what details do u need? Thx.

Can you post the device specifications, like how a lot of us have what it says in the bootloader for our signatures?
Hello guys
How much can we in theory overclock our cpus? And how do we know that it is safe to overclock at a value?

2,3GHz + 30% = 2,99GHz but there is no one who is such a phone murder like i but when i have a pc with linux i can try 3,4GHz dont know why but i just want test such extreme oc
and you see if its safe on your device when you test it cause most xz1 have another chipset version
ps the kernel with highest freq atm is triinity ultimate kernel by @f(x)THaxxorX which has 2,8GHz oc + 650MHz gpu oc

So it would be possible for someone making a kernel which can oc until 3ghz?
And what about gpu?
Ps yeah I know he has done great job

when i have a useable linux pc (which can take a while) i do something and maybe @f(x)THaxxorX can make something like an extreme edition for those who wanna kill there z1 :silly: would be cool
and i think 650mhz are pretty much, i think its enough for our z1 ^^

In theory you can overclock it as really high, but all chips are built differently and some can OC more than others (like PC cpus). However, unlike PC s, you cannot easily change the cooling on our phones and OC would definitely reduce the life of the phone if it's in constant stress. You could probably overclock it by increasing core voltage but remember it's a phone, not an overclockable rig. Sorry I couldn't give you an exact answer.
I'll put more in this request thread later but for now has anyone put any work into over clocking the GPU? Like through a custom kernel?
This isnt the correct thread, there its a Q & A section.
Sayin that, you think its necesary? The phone no have any lag or something like that, it doesnt need overclocking on my opinion!
Sorry will request it be moved but just for gaming and the tiny stutters. I'd like to smooth the experience fully. I'm developing a kernel that should do so but I'm a newb so I wanted to get any advice I could. Im currently throwing frandom and smartass into my kernel. Along with over clocking the GPU like people did for the nexus 4.

I've fiddled with GPU overclocking, but it seems like Moto X can't handle even a slight 50 MHz GPU overclock. :/
I got GPU clock and voltage control to work, can be overclocked to 500mhz, anything more than 400mhz makes the UI stutter though. It can probably be fixed/tweaked easily, i won't put any effort on it because i don't use the phone as a gaming device. If you manage to fix the stuttering let me know.

Voltage control works perfectly, just be careful, anything less than -50mV will probably freeze the device.
I use synapse app by AndreiLux to control my custom kernel, my scripts to control the gpu can be found here:

That's what I got to too. Kind of a waste of time in the end since the phone is kind of unusable in the end.
