search for rooting dhd and flashing a new rom it's in here bro, no need to post things like this
To make your life easier, i'll tell you key points you need to do before getting yourself a new rom.
There are three basic type of ROMS:
- MIUI, Cyanogenmod, Sense (default)
This is the section where you can find various roms, and for each rom you can look for themes in the theme and app section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=765
Before you choose yourself a rom,
1. Google, how to root desire HD
2. After rooting, go to android market and download "Rom manager" so that you can access custom recovery to flash the rom.

well most of those threads on google link back to xda...anyways, it's easier for someone to google something rather than searching threads anyways...that was not the point. Point is to get things done, doesn't matter whatever the source is :/

Devs - I have released an app on the market, similar to ROM Manager, but for ROMs, Kernels, Themes, Modems, Apps, Tweaks. This works with Clockwork Mod Recovery (and other custom recoveries that have extendedcommands), so long as the KERNEL in use on the device has CWM (or whatever). It's basically just a streamlined process for flashing new mods.
All I ask of you is that you post your work, to make it available for Atrix 4G users to download.
Please see this thread for more information, including links to submit your work:

do the roms have to support this or can u just download this and use it?
+1 I have the app and it would be great if the Atrix section was well populated!

OP is clear: devs must submit their work. All the info is in the original thread
Added: this is a great idea. Kinda a huge repository with all the roms/kernels/mods/whatever u'll ever need.
Ninja Rom + Patches
Ill drop them tonight around 12am.
I will also update Rom manager!
This thread isn't getting the attention it deserves! Come on devs, upload some goodies.

Any devs plan on submitting anything? Id love to try ninja and some others out there. The app was just updated to a newer version today as well.

Also, Something you can stress enough:
ALWAYS USE THE SEARCH BUTTON AND POST QUESTIONS IN THE Q&A SECTION AND NOT THE DEVELOPMENT/GENERAL/ANY OTHER SECTION!!!
What is this and that (Glossary of android terms)
Rooting:
Allowing your device to run root only applications (You see them in the play store all the time). You can also access the Linux internals with root. It is an essential in order to unlocking the bootloader.
Bootloader unlocking:
This allows of flashing custom kernels and recoveries. After you unlock the bootloader, DO NOT OTA UPDATE!!! This will lose your bootloader unlock and/or Brick your device where you cannot unbrick it...
ADB:
ADB = Android Debug bridge. You can push files to the device, pull files from the device, and install applications. In order to use this you must goto Settings > Developer Options -> USB Debugging. You must also enable for rooting your device.
ROM:
Basicly, A custom firmware that is made unofficially by developers outside Motorola. These include tweaks and themes to make the device how you want and not ho Your carrier & Motorola want. You will need a custom recovery to install these (Requires bootloader unlock unless it says safestrap, or ss).
Kernel:
It is kind of like a rom, but without themes. These are mainly used for overclocking and undervolting. You need a bootloader unlock in order to use this.
I'll finish it after lunch...

IMO this is pretty much a useless thread, a person wouldn't be browsing xda if he didn't know the meaning of the stuff listed above.
thread can be made useful by adding guide & links to bootloader unlocking, rooting, installing CWM, etc.

Yeah, a FAQ would be better than a glossary

I've been wanting to talk with some "power users" to get a good list of FAQs and answers. I'm just sick of seeing the same posts over and over again..
Feel free to PM me if you want some help with it
The way I see it, we already have most of the needed information but it's scattered around, disorganized. Some guides are good and others are crap. So this could include links to the helpful stuff rather than rewriting again.
My contribution: Use safestrap instead of CWM because nearly all ROMs were made specifically for SS.
Also SS allows you to flash RAZRHD roms with my wifi fix. Don't flash to stock if the ROM contains files in /system/etc/rootfs.
CWM: don't use it unless you want CM10 or you're an expert. Stop flashing RAZRHD roms with custom kernels. The LCD doesn't work.

You should be able to flash the Razr HD roms with CWM/TWRP as long as you mount /system before flashing.

Hi.
If someone have improvement advices for this thread PM me.
This won't work for sense ir smth similar.
I'm not responsible for bricked(or smth similar) devices cause of ROMS ported by this method.
I don't know if this works for non-aosp/cm based ROMS. You may need to do some more things to get it working.
Try to use the same android version for both ROMS For 4.2.2 use Cm For 4.1.2 use Stock ROM.
You won't have a compatible source code. This means you can't update the ROM through syncing and recompiling. But you won't need a Linux distro fot this Method.
Actually its very easy.
firstly follow this tutorial: http://www.fesilo.com/forum/android/guides/113-guide-guide-to-port-roms-fast-and-easy to get a booting ROM
then download this Tool -> http://www.virtuous-ten-studio.com/ it makes de/re-compiling very easy.
now you just have to fix those anoying bugs
to fix Phone.apk FC.
Be sure to put in the submenu smali API level to Android 4.2.2(in VTS) and tick use smali debug output and in the submenu build tick use old signature
Decompile telephony-common.jar from both ROMS.
Copy the X3RIL.smali found in /com/android/internal/telephony from the .jar of your base ROM (cm 10.1,stock rom) to the .jar of the ROM you're trying to port.
Recompile and replace the one within your old one from HOX ROM.
Decompile framework-res.apk from both ROMS.
open /res/values/arrays.xml
press Control+f to use the search function.
enter auto
copy the arrays config_autoBrightnessLevels,config_autoBrightnessLcdBacklightValues,config_autoBrightnessButtonBacklightValues,config_autoBrightnessKeyboardBacklightValues to the .xml off your ROM and overwrite the old ones.
then copy and overwrite power_profile.xml and storage_list from your base ROM to the ROM your trying to port.
Recompile and replace the one within your old one from HOX ROM.
actually this was the magic.
I hope I forgot nothing. Please Excuse me If I did. It's half past 23 here and I had a very exhausting Weekend.
I will update this thread in a few days to make it more userfriendly
You can PM me if you have Questions.
BIG THANKS TO SNXO FOR GIVING ME THE KNOW-HOW TO FIX BIG ISSUES.

Thanks..
Very Interesting and useful..
Infact i find some guide simple to try...
Good Job!
Very nice Tobi good job
Hopefully that gives power to the people for making some good Roms and Programms for us. It isn't that difficult to do just a little bit reading and then learning by doing.
Best regards SnXo
Notice that will work with every rom. The easy way is snap from HOX but you can choose Roms from others too... To keep it iesy you should have the same resolution and Androidversion nothing more... That's it!
Maybe a admin can make this as sticky that would be nice

I tried a while ago with this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603.
The end result was a bootloop. I will maybe try to do it again when I have more time.
this doesn't work with sense without additional work.

Hi,
Could someone please explain the difference between stock, Xposed, GB, CM, or other? I've built pc's and servers but this would be the first time I attempt to fool around with an Android.
Thanks!

I'll try to keep it simple with this.
1) Stock :- The ROM and Kernel you get from the factory along with your phone.
2) Xposed :- Refers to a set of modules that can be added to the existing ROM to change appearance, add functionality and provide you with features that would otherwise not be available in your 'Stock' ROM option. - Xposed requires you to have root privileges on your phone (i.e super user or admin rights)
3) GB : Gingerbread ??
4) CM : Cyanogen Mod : Refers to the most wide spread ROMs available for android. It offers most features of Stock ROMs coupled with things like a theme engine, dedicated music controls etc.
Head over to the forum rules for a quick look and also see the WIki page for more info : http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=613 .
Have fun messing around :good:

Noob here, but I was just wondering if you can download apps that are developed by other custom rom developers. I was using crdroid and fell in love with their file manager app, but now I'm trying out other roms. I've found pros and cons to a number of custom roms, but I keep going back to crdroid for just a couple of their apps because I hate ES. Any recommendations? Thanks and sorry if this is a confusing or frequently asked question. I just haven't seen any posts about anything like this.
I use the Cyanogenmod 11 gallery app with Pure Nexus without issues You'd have to search the Pure Nexus ROM thread for it, but I made a flashable zip of it available. Unless the app in question requires customized system files you should be able to port it from one ROM to another.
Regarding ES, if you hate it because of the bloat I offer re-signed versions of the last ad-free version in my Systemless ES File Explorer thread (link in signature).
