Install new Google Talk with Video? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all,
does anyone know if its possible to install the new google talk with video chat on the i9001?
i'm on the KPS 2.3.6 rom.
thanks

I have tried different versions available. For some, only rear camera works. You cant switch. Fir some others microphone doesnt work
None of them has been ported to i9001
Sent from my GT-I9001 using XDA App

If you have CWM instaled your front side cam will not work. It's known issue and it's connected with CWM not with talk version.

it doesnt work at all? as in not in skype or anything? because i dont have clockworkmod and my front camera works fine in skype...

My frontside cam worked fine till I instaled CWM. Now it doesn't at all (in Skype and in Talk also). It's known problem, I'm not the only one.

I don't think I was on CWM. I tried a version on which front cam worked but it was upside down. I never got it to work properly. In every variant, some or the other problem persisted.

A minor and a serious problem...

Hey all.
I'm currently running IOLite on the the HyperDragon IV Lite ROM.
The minor problem is that the camera doesn't work. The camera app will start up just fine, but all I get is a black frame.
The serious problem I'm having is that I have no sound in calls. Calls will connect just fine, but I can't hear the person I'm calling, nor can they hear me. But I have service and I can send and receive text messages, so my radio is working okay.
Any help would be very much appreciated!

First it is your radio lol radios can cause sound issues as for the camera i would reccomend Nadavi's camera found here

A certificate error? The only problem I had was it wouldnt show a preview of a picture but i installed the 8/3/08(Aug. 3rd 2008) update
I had this issue (black frame with no visibility on the camera) as well. The trick is to install HTC Album prior to installing Navi's camera cab. Then Navi's camera app should work just fine.

AFAIK, Skype can't use front camera with froyo. But you can try [DEV] Skype Video for Froyo (and GB) mod that work with froyo (it said there, but I haven't tried it by myself).

No you can not use the front cam yet with Fring. Like Skype will have to wait for the 2.3 update.

I don't know yet, and I won't use it either.. because Fring doesn't have encryption.
Try to install this skype version of Droidrx http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153285 it works great in my OB! I can now use the front camera.

[Q] Google maps compass not working & mic quality bad during calls [not over wifi]

[Q] Google maps compass not working & mic quality bad during calls [not over wifi]
Hi,
I am running on ICS 4.0.3 milestone build by AOKP for cappy, Kernel by glitch v14 b5, but the compass which is used in google maps is not working, i'm just getting a blue dot (something like what you get in apple phones)
I've tried different ROMS but there isn't any change. Although the GPS is accurate, the compass feature exactly pointed out to which direction the phone pointed out which helped in find locations while travelling, now without this feature it kinda feels lame using google maps..
Anybody got a solution to this problem and how?
another problem that was seen was the while calling or receiving calls the person at the other end of the line was not able to hear my voice clearly and when I checked the voice was muffled, I installed vodoo sound from google play and changed the mic sensitivity, its better but still not crisp as before.
Funny thing is that the mic seems to be working fine with google talk and skype when I use them over wifi!!!
Anybody else facing the same issue and found solutions?
For your sound quality issue, it definitely sounds like you need to flash a different modem. Make sure you are using a i9000 based modem

Hey thanks, did that after much fuss.. did a clean install, but this time used the devil kernel instead of glitch, the one that was for cappy and not just i9000. Everything's working perfectly fine now!
For the compass Issue, well i got it solved by removing the maps apk and installing an older version, somewhere around 5.8 i think, rebooted opened application and it updated it automatically via the play store and is working fine.
Otherwise another option is doing a clean install ! with the right kernel.

[Q] Skype on the Razr I

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone managed to install Skype on this device? It seems to only work on ARM based devices, so just wondering if it works on the Razr I. I love the look of this phone, however, skype is a must for me.
Can anyone let me know if it is compatible?
Thanks

Is videocall working?
Video call is working on both front and back cameras
It certainly works but I not sure you can say it works like a charm, as Skype for ANY Android device can be hit and miss.. especially when it has spells that don't let you log in at all (including the incorrect password errors that aren't incorrect).
I use Skype for work and really can't rely on using it solely on my phone, especially thanks to the drain on the battery, which is a shame.
Works sooo good, i call every day to my girlfriend and no bugs at all!!

Never had these problems across three android devices over the last couple of years. I feel lucky.
Wow, you are! I've got Skype installed on a large number of devices (and tablets - and to be fair, they've done a good job of making a decent tablet mode now) and have had plenty of problems.
Connecting via mobile data has often caused many problems, from failing to connect to being connected but not receiving any IMs (or being able to refresh and load older ones).
One thing Skype has improved massively on though is the need for RAM (or taking it all up), which used to cause me no end of hassle on devices without 1GB of RAM - forcing even the homescreen to be closed and restarted. This occasionally happens on the Razr i, but very, very rarely.
there's ia a problem with my videocalls
I have a problem with my skype and other videocalls with JB, my front cam makes a zoom on me but my regular front cam to take pictures is ok. i have tried other jb firmwares and the problem continues. skype and tango work dine on ICS.
My carrier seems to hate Skype, because the calls are a no-go when on 3G, even I tried in other major cities, but as soon as I connect to any decent wifi I have no problems, the quality of the call and voices are nice.
same problem

Issues with video call

Hello,
I have JB retail brazil installed in my phone, and have a problems with Tango calls and skype calls. When i make video calls, the front cam makes an excessive zoom and the other person can only see my eyes and my nose, i have to back up a meter so then can see my face. I see no one min this forum has the same problem as me, what can i do. I tried changing to other JB firmwares but with the European version I have the same problem with video calls and even lost my 3g network. I have changed to ICS and back to JB a lot of times. Can some one help me please??
I have the same issue
Hi, I have the same issue with videocalls on Razr i. But, when I'm using the camera software with front facing camera, the video is ok, with a good distance. I`m using the stock ROM from Motorola and the problem affects Skype and Hangouts.
Still

After some months and instaling several stock JB roms, i haven't been able to solve this. Do you have a development motorola razr i, I mean the development previous version before motorola released the final. where did you buy your phone (country)? what ROM is installed?
Same problem
Hi Guys,
I have the same problem with the same apps. I have a Razr i with original JB ROM from Motorola.
I try to find something on the web but untill now I didn't find anything to help.
I have the same problem with both Skype and Google Hangouts. I need to check out some other 3rd party camera apps to see if they have the same issue - or if it's just video.
Problems also on Tango
I've tested on Tango and it presented a "big zoom" as Skype and Hangouts.
It is a problem thats comes from the "conector" used by these apps. The stock camera doesn't show the same problem, mybe because it uses "another" way to access the camera hardware.
In order to test this, I installed Vignette and it doesn't show the problem.
So, there are at least 2 way to access the front facing camera, and the way that video chating apps uses shows the problem about de the zoomed video.
Does any one know something about a patch, an app, or did other tests to localize the origin of the issue?
Same Issue
No update to this thread? I tried a few ROMs; have the same issue as described above in Skype and Hangouts, camera app is fine, no zoom.
I had this problem and it used to happen while I was in the middle of the call. I solved it by going to /system/data/data/com.skype.../files/app.properties and changing this line [device.video.preview.zoom=true] to [device.video.preview.zoom=false] and then it stopped zooming right straight to my face
