any danger of unlocking under gingerdx - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on gingerdx. Is it necessary for me to downgrade it back to stock ROM before I try to unlock the bootloader? If i skip this step will there be danger?

i managed to unlock bootloader at GingerDX v019 safely

I managed to unlock it too using GDX 17 or something, was a while ago like..

I tried on V020 but failed so I did as in the title and flashed stock rom :/

Unlock it on the stock rom and then install another custom one, simple
You will have to reroot if you have flashed a stock rom, but that's no trouble

I successfuly unlocked on GDX v015.

I suggest you changed the title something like "cmw recovery on locked bl and more". I think many want recovery with but hesitant to unlock bootloader. Thanks for posting.
works perfect on rooted stock arc locked bootloader
sounds wonderful. I shall try on mine too
Can I install ROM now from the dev section in the forum?
can confirm that this does not work on the Xperia acro IS11S
so does this allow a recovery menu for devices with locked bootloaders, does that mean we can flash custom firmware on these devices. if not what are the benefits of locked bootloaders having a recovery menu

If we install CWM using this method, is there a way to remove it if we need to claim the phone on warranty or anything?
Also can more people confirm this definitely works with stock fw, locked bootloader

Are you sure that'll work? You still have a locked bootloader so custom ROMs probably still won't work. I think it more for backing up stock ROMs and installing mods etc.
ah ok i guessss your right....can we flash themes?
I have no idea. I'd like to know actually. Would make it a lot easier to test things that may cause a boot loop and be able to just flash back to stock without a full reset.

You can't upload the CM7 because CM7 need another Kernel. CM7 don't working with the stock kernel! If you make change kernel you need the unlocked bootloader phone.
I think that this works:

you are right,
Now we have to wait for developers to make some good rom whit stock kernel to, i'll love some miui rom

Yes, but this is just a rom in ZIP file, just flash with CWM over the original stock rom. Test it if you have time!?
How about adding a (second) post / sticky in this Topic, with Roms, Tweaks etc. that work by CWM flashing... (locked bootloaders)

Don't unlock Bootloader. I strictly recommend you not to do this.
Because X8 after 11w29 have got bricked during unlocking bootloader.

If you don't want to unlock bootloader install GingerDX or other ROM for stock kernel
you need the official sony ericsson firmware for unlocking the bootloader. flash that to your phone using PC Companion or SEUS.
check the bootloader thread , get the tools, verify your simlock is okay with s1tool, if yes, then run msm7227.cmd with your phone attached in flashmode. ( turn off, hold back button while connecting to usb.)
once done, get the naa kernel, put in flashtool/firmwares then run flashtool, click flash, select the naa kernel and click okay. connect phone in flashmode again, disconnect and reboot once done.
copy minicm7 and appropriate google apps to sdcard, boot cwm recovery ( keep pressing volume up button when naa kernel logo appears), do a full wipe, install cm7 zip, then gapps zip.
reboot.
phone now running cm7.
unlocking the bootloader is NOT as scary as people make it out to be as long as you stick to the guide and don't arse around and unplug it before it's done, etc.

After you unlock the bootloader you can flash a custom recovery and that will allow you to root your current ROM, install custom ROMs, etc.

Yes, you can use GB custom ROMs, just don't try to go all the way back to Froyo.

Rooted with towelroot.What next?

Dear all,
I have rooted my device which is running 4.3 (c5502) (build number: . 101) with towelroot. Now i need to install any custom ROM. I came to know that it requires to install recovery first before flash any ROM. I stuck there..Can you please guide me. I didn't unlock my bootloader yet but I had my TA backup with me.Thanks in advance guys.
whatever u need to know is already there. just search for it. if u expect to be spoonfed then you really shouldn't mess with your phone
The thing is, do we really need to unlock boot loader to flash custom roms, or can it be closed just with root and recovery?
No one tryed it till now I think.
Greetings.

Yes for flashing custom Roms the bootloader must be unlocked and a recovery must be installed however if you want to flash a stock based Rom unlocked boot loader is not needed. Just Root and Recovery needed for flashing the stock based Roms. Correct me if i am wrong.
