Hi, I currently have Nightly 187 installed.
I wanna upgrade to the newest one, but will it wipe during install? or will I keep my apps etc.?
also, I never changed baseband when I installed last nightly, are you supposed to do that? or is it included in the rom.
If you don't choose to wipe, you'll keep everything
choose advanced -> wipe dalvik cache and than install zip you will lost no data
ok so It keeps everything? apps, settings, pics etc.
Also, does what about baseband? is it included

The baseband will not get flashed but the RIL will. Which results in a RIL/Baseband mismatch.
You should get "GetRil" from the market und you will be fine.
I also recommend to wipe cache. This will not erase your data, apps or config.
and if you want new baseband, follow the instructions on modaco optimus 2x forum (it is very easy). and dont forget do a backup before flashing new bb, because it will do a factory reset of the phone.

From CY6.1 rc1 to rc2 what do I need to do to restore everything like I was restoring a backup?
You don't have to wipe anything except cache and dalvik-cache which will not affect you. Thus, you will not lose anything you currently have...
Just go in the recovery, manually wipe cache and dalvik-cache, flash the RC2 zip file and reboot, you're good to go.
Thanks for reply. I know how to flash roms. I'm trying to get an answer about apps and settings and such. I apologize for not elaborating.

Just to be sure. Sounds too easy and you know the saying.
go into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik and do not do full wipe.
Then flash cy6.1 RC 2 and reboot and I'm set? If its that easy ill poop my pants. And then send you guys a picture. Just kidding.
It´s just that easy.
(Nandroid before...is never bad to have)
I know lotsa four letter words if it doesn't work out.
I updated from stable 6.0 but i never wiped cache. Does it matter?

Appreciate the fast replies guys. I just realized I wiped rc2 last night when I was cleaning up excess and stuff. So I guess ill wait. The gamble of a headache is not worth it for the small differences. I wish gingerbread would hurry up. I'm eager to see if it allows custom/assignable ringtones. My Nokia e71 is sorely missed for that feature.
It is not a gamble, and there won't be any headaches. Just flash the RC2 zip. Don't wipe anything, even the cache, just so you can feel safe.
Of course, make a full backup to appease your fears, but that won't matter.
Just flash the RC2 on top of your system.
I did it this morning while still laying in bed with only 70% battery left and not plugged into the wall. And I didn't even make a nandroid backup.
+1, just flash...
I mean even if you don't wipe cache and dalvik-cache it won't matter...it's just a preventive measure and even if you DO wipe them, you won't even notice since you DO NOT lose anything
I flash new nightlies every day and you can trust me on this one
Ok all you pushy Smarty pants. Do I need to worry about Google apps or just flash rc2?
Very simple answer that most managed to miss.
If you want to back up all data and apps, use titanium backup.(buy it, its worth it) if you ever lose everything or move to a different rom, this will bring your apps, data and settings along to a new rom, or after a wipe
If you want to make a back up of your rom, in case something goes wrong, do a nandroid backup from recovery. And yes nandroid before you flash ANYTHING. You never know what could go wrong.

No, you do not need to worry about Google apps...think of RC2 as an update, not a different ROM...When you update your stock from from an OTA, do you lose anything? Nope. That is exactly the same thing here.
Put the RC2.zip in your sdcard
Reboot in recovery
Wipe cache and dalvik-cache (you will NOT lose anything)
Flash zip from sdcard
Reboot
Voilà

So you don't have to reflash gapps? A couple if days ago I went from a 6.1 nightly to RC2 - I didn't wipe anything, but when it booted I did not have gapps (everything else remained)... I then flashed gapps and they returned, but I had to reconfigure everything related to gapps (notifications etc). This has dissuaded me from flashing the new nightlies because I do not want to set up gapps every time...

Well, I did hear about people losing their Gapps when flashing a few of the latest nightlies (right before RC2), but it never happened to me...Maybe it depends on where you had them installed before? I installed the updates from the market, so they ended up in /data/ and not in /system...since flashing overwrites /system I guess that could be the reason?
Dunno...Worst case, you just reflash the Gapps and restore the settings through Titanium Backup

Fairly sure if you flash Gapps at the same time as the latest rom, you don't have that problem.
well just tried flash 6.1 N1 stable over 6.1 RC1. didn't work. did it this way, that way and another and still didn't work. wiped sd card and tried a couple times fresh and guess what? NOTHING. sigh.

You normally only need to format between major revisions, it CM6 to CM7 to CM8. To update to 7.0.3, you just flash the file like normal, and if you are using ROM Manager, just don't select the wipe option.
But as others have said, make sure you backup before you flash. Ideally, you should be able to upgrade without a problem, but unfortunately, we don't always live in an ideal world. Better to be safe than sorry. That way if the flash doesn't work out, you can just revert to your backup.
Can someone post the 3D Game Converter APK?
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
It requires the new firmware to run. Even if you install the APK, it wont work with out the firmware. If you want the 3d converter you have a couple options (assuing you have root)
1. Flash an o3d rom- They all have the converter. But you need to change the apn and flex.xml file to gain 4g...(look up 4g fix in this forum posted by callmearia)
2. Flash the LG firmware over a thrill ROM. This will install the 3d converter && the framework necessary to run it. You will need to apply the 4g fix for that too, but the dialer will work.
All information above came from my experiences, i am just relaying what worked for me.

Somebody posted up the 10k firmware over in the development section. As long as you don't do a data wipe/factory reset you wont lose anything. Cache wipes and dalvik wipes don't affect your settings or anything. Those just clean up stored caches in case there are any incompatibilities (I recommend always wiping those two between flashing anything rom related).

Do a search in the dev forum for 'nightlies'. In the thread you'll find the download link, I think it's 'terrachata'. Install the file with cwm. (install zip > choose zip from sdcard). Do a wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache beforehand . If coming from cm9 alpha 2, no need to wipe/delete data, factory reset.

Absolutely no need to wipe anything.
I've flashed each nightly "over the top" of the previous version without any problem.
You can use Rom Manager to flash. Just tell it to use the existing version of CWM when it asks and check the version you have manually installed either 2 or 3 and away you go.
Then you can install all zip updates and mods the same way.
Check out buildprop-supreme-rohan-v1.1 for some cool tweaks including 120dpi screen settings.

With any android system, you should ALWAYS wipe at least cache and dalvik after flashing a rom update. It only takes 5 seconds, and can help you avoid big issues.
You can use Rom Manager to flash.

DON'T use Rom Manager to flash roms, it's just a bad idea. Many devices have been bricked because of that app. Just boot into recovery, install the zip, and wipe cache and dalvik. It only takes an extra 30 seconds to do it through recovery, and will make it so you don't have any issues.

Thanks for all the great advice! It would be nice to have a thread about the stability of the latest nightlies before you do a flash. How do you do a nandroid backup before an update? Does it take a lot of space? How do you do a restore if all doesn't go well?

Boot into recovery, and before doing anything else, go to Backup and Restore, then hit Backup. Backups will probably take about 600mb or so, more if you have a lot of apps on there. You only need to keep one backup on the device, and you can copy the backup off the memory onto a computer if you want to save space.

The same way you would flash a rom. Boot into recovery, wipe data/cache/dalvik, then go to backup and restore, and hit restore.
I hate being a NOOB about this...I know there is a changelog that you can find here: http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#q,status:merged+branch:ics,n,z
My question is does anyone know where I can find a less complex or more simple explanation (for us noobs that doesn't understand computerish sometimes! ) of what changes they have made to the nightlies?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Sorry again for the very noob question!

The nightlies are basically compiled each night from the cm9 source. Its an automated process so the changes are what was changed in the cm source in the last 24 hours. Usually its nothing major, if its something big you'll probably see an alpha posted on rootzwiki.

I'm interested in moving my backup from my touchpad to my computer to save space, however, my "backups" folder is empty...
As I'm writing this I'm realizing that I may have preformed a backup before doing a factory settings/data reset/wipe so would that be erased when I did the wipe/reset?
I know now that if coming from another version of CM9 their is no need to wipe the factory data/settings, instead just wipe the other two (forget what their called)
Should be in a folder called ClockworkMod
After updating nightlies
What should I expect to have to re install?
gapps?
dpi fix?
any launcher settings?
what typically breaks/resets and has to be re-configured?
DPI fix is all.
Any changes you make to your build.prop file will be erased on an update from one nightly to the next (or CM9 to another nightly). Anything else - apps, gapps, settings, etc), should not change.
Personally, I've become used to the 160DPI default, which works quite nicely on the latest nightly. Yes, there isn't as much screen space, but I don't mind. I don't have THAT many things I need on the screen at once - one widget, half a dozen or so app shortcuts, that's about it for my main home screen. So 160 works pretty well, especially for office docs and kindle reading.
160 v 120, what do they actually look like when compared? I know that running 160 has the portrait app grid view off kilter (landscape looks fine)
120 I find ends up with a row and at least one column off of the screen, so you can't use them. 160 doesn't have that issue unless you go portrait.
I was tryin to install blatecktonik new OdysseyHybrid-v3.10-RC and I did a full wipe. After that, I couldn't install any jelly bean ROM and my baseband changed to XMM6160.
I never had any problem installing any ROM. I Have CMW and now I dont know what to do.
I return to Zeus.
