Looks like we might not get official ICS. Let's go CM9!
Further evidence that the D3 was released so they could use Droid 4(g)... so retarded. Thanks for the shaft, moto.

How does this prove there will be no ics for the D3?

I honestly wouldn't mind if they just unlocked our bootloader or gave us a better kernal

Because it is a list of current phones that will be upgraded. The D3 is a current phone that is not listed, which means it will most likely not be getting an upgrade. However, no one knows for sure
I'm not sure it indicates anything. The D3 isn't listed in the list below either where all of the other phones are.

This was my thought.. that top banner of text seems as more of a teaser for those who just purchased their bionic and razr to silence the people worried if their recently purchased phone is going to receive android 4.0.
The Droid 3 isn't listed on the page at all and obviously it exists.. so I don't think that upgrade page means a thing. I would assume those would just be the first to get it then other phones that are capable would have 4.0 implemented. Since the D3 is so similar, I doubt the bionic will receive 4.0 without the D3 being considered..
http://phandroid.com/2011/10/24/mot...-release-beginning-with-razr-bionic-and-xoom/
A few sites(check google) say that these lists are just motorola confirming which phones will get ics over the next few weels starting with the razr, bionic and xoom.

Has anyone noticed that only verizon moto phones are listed? That cannot be a complete list, what about the photon? The atrix 2? I highly doubt this is a complete list of devices that can be upgraded. This is just for hype, companies like to do this so people buy their phones for the upgrade. If this is the complete list, our beloved Droid 3 has booted ICS already so there is no need to worry.
I'm probably going to thoroughly ***** a verizon rep out. I'm not big on ICS to be honest but the fact that they dropped this, then like 10 other phones in the few months following is terrible business practicing. My phone shouldn't be obsolete in 2 weeks.
I may just drop Verizon and goto Sprint while it's still got unlimited data. Tho that would probably leave me with $600 in termination fees. Good thing I got credit growing from things bigger than Verizon?
Page obviously needs an update on all the new phones, looks like it's 6+ months out of date so it has no real relevant information for new phones at all.
We will more then likely get ICS.
-smc
That's technology. You don't wanna be outdated get an iPhone. With the overclocks, custom ROMs, Hash working on ICS, and everything, why wouldn't our phone keep up? I mean it's got the hardware to be current for a while minus 4G.

What does everyone think? 4" may be the sweet spot between big screen size and too big. I don't know how I feel about even less physical buttons though as I already think it is the stupidest thing ever to not have dedicated send/end, but that is just me.
Not while they've skinned Android and replaced some Google integration with Yahoo integration.
No led flash? Are you f*cking kidding me?
I like the S-AMOLED and the proper multi-touch screen. However, having used the N1, I feel that it's just about as large a smartphone as I'd like to have in my pocket.
Not having to jump through as many hoops to get it customized, rooted, unlocked, etc. is also a nice thing about being on the N1.
Why would I want that when I have an N1?

I've had a G1, and a N1, I'll wait until the next "Google" phone's out to upgrade, I think
If it gets rooted and with a stock rom i'm going for it. Samsung makes great hardware. The software sucks big time.

+10. Updates will be non existent, samsung expects you to buy a new phone if you want to update, screw that. I'll stay with nexus one.

Yeah I'm with you I'll wait for the new Nexus One every phone on T-Mobile that's made by HTC and only has stock Android is the phone Google uses for the next year. Thanks to Froyo the Nexus One has been the best Android phone until at least August when the Droid X gets 2.2 and gets a speed boost. Also you know that the Galaxy S will not get to use the free tethering that people with the Nexus enjoy. So to the original question NOPE

If it is rooted why couldn't you use wireless tether? Wow I did not think everyone would be so against it. Its already rooted though I thought.

If I upgrade phones from my Nexus One its going to be for these features:
- Vanilla android
- 4.3' screen
- Can use the same $50/mo even more plus T-mobile voice + data
I'm more than happy to play the waiting game with my Nexus One until this phone comes out...
If the guys at Samsung weren't so cheap to cut corners and actually included an led flash I might have considered the GalaxyS... but I can't support such obvious penny pinching cost cutting by Samsung
I love its GPU power and the Super-AMOLED, but for me to go from the N1 I need :
dualcore
>WVGA
stock android

I don't expect that for another 6 months or so, so I'll be keeping my Nexus One until then
The Galaxy S is also plasticky and ugly

The DROID 4 is upon us whether we are ready for it or not. The first pictures of it popped up a few weeks ago followed by signs pointing to it arriving on December 8. We also got confirmation that training has started for some Verizon shops, along with this set of official specs. Who knew we would see it so soon?
The D4 will have a 4″ screen (LCD or AMOLED?), 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, DROID RAZR styling, 5-row slideout keyboard, 4G LTE, front camera for video chatting and an 8MP rear camera. This could be the DROID that many of you have been waiting for. The Stratosphere had LTE and a keyboard, but this phone has top of the line specs to go with them.
On a related note, thoughts on the tool needed to remove the back cover? It doesn’t have a removable battery, but the cover can be removed using that circular tool pictured above, so that you can insert a SIM and SD card.
Source: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/11/2...nitely-a-big-razr-with-a-keyboard-and-4g-lte/
This is what the droid 3 should have been in the first place...Instead of opting for one standout phone though, Motorola decided to make 2 behind the curve phones in the time span of two months. They should give Droid 3 owners some kind of upgrade deal or something, that's just crazy.
edit: Did they get rid of the lip? If so, now I'm really upset, I always hated that lip at the bottom.
I strongly agree with you. The Droid 4 seems like the phone I've been waiting for the whole time. I'm quite sure Moto released the D3 with less superior hardware solely as a marketing strategy.
Too bad the battery's no longer swappable (with the exception of removing some additional covers)
I just got the droid 3 after tons of problems with the D2G. I must say, for not having paid for the phone, I'd be willing to pay for this D4. BUT, not being able to install an extended battery is a major dis. Sure the 1785mAh that this has is bigger then the 1500 the we have...but its still smaller than the 1950 the extended has. Who care how fast your phone is if its dead...

Don't buy it. Realy the droid 4 six months after the droid 3. Then there will be thr droid 5 six month after that. That's why as soon as I can I'm never going to own a carrier phone again. Its all nexus for me. Motorola has disapointed me very much . People sign the patition pn the thread abouve this one.

I wonder how long until the CDMA version gets it. It seems the CDMA GNex is the bastard child, and doesn't get the same attention.
You GSM GN owners can get the nice pogo pin dock off the Play store for $55. Us CDMA GN owners gotta go directly to Samsung and pay $90 for basically the same thing.
That's one of the major reasons I'd love to go get an SIII right now. All of the accessories work with all of the carrier's versions. Making the GN different was a mistake.
Oops. Fixed. Had the wrong forum.

it's a nexus device, of course not since they are technically considered a developer's device, unlocking the bootloader is pretty much a standard feature.

Everyone will have an s3 by then T-Mobile is already in talk about offering the s3 for 0 down with qualifying credit with its new financing program in last months sales meeting I can buy an refurbish s3 for around 149.00 but I'm sure the price will drop by then. For this phone I'm sure someone will figure it out but if not the s3 will be at an decent price.

If I get another phone I would go big hopefully note 3 is out by then.
I'm on the no contract plan so I just have to pay $55 a month, but my next device will probably be a Nexus...
*pops up out of nowhere*
First of all, KLP is probably 6 months away at least. There's been numerous sources and *ahem* confirmations (still not 100%, but enough evidence to be believed) that the next Android version to be released at I/O next week will indeed be 4.3 Jelly Bean.
Secondly, as long as camcory, smartguy, Tim, and the other geniuses are still around here, then yes, I do see the Exhibit running the next update. May take a while for various drivers (wifi, bt, gps, and camera come to mind), but I bet they'll be hard at work to get things going. It's the typical ongoing cycle non-Nexus phones always have to deal with. Speaking of which....

There was just a story on VR-Zone (June-12-2013) and they said that Google is optimizing KLP to run better on devices with 512MiB, and it's coming out in October. I'm sure i'll still have this phone by then, so hopefully somebody will be able to get it working.

Pretty interesting promise. :fingers-crossed:
Just means Sprint gets their hands on it, we still have to wait.
Given Sprint's recent track record, we might have it early as well. They have been the first to release updates to flagships a few times lately.
And who said it would be lollipop? The fact that they haven't announced a dessert indicates that they may be trying to work out another sponsorship deal (lemonhead? life saver?).
It could be licorice, laffy taffy, lemon merengue pie, etc.

Ever since I started working for Sprint as a tech I've never seen any other carriers bring updates as fast as them. I had att when I first joined rocking note 3 so when Kit Kat was released I seen it release for sprint then waited 3 month to get my update plus all the locked bootloader blah blah... blah... I hate att as a customer standpoint can't wait for tmo and sprint to join.

Doesn't matter which carrier is the fastest at releasing it, it still doesn't change the fact that all that means is we have to wait after Sprint gets their hands on it. Right? If you want to talk about which carriers are the fastest at releasing go ahead and do so without quoting me and trying to make an invalid point, thanks!
I hope they make it Lifesavers.

The carrier piece will most likely be part of the 90 days. Verizon and AT&T will be the longest and may go a little beyond that but HTC has been good lately at getting code out of their shop in 30 days and getting the first runs to carriers.
Like anything else time will tell...
