Heavy Duty Cases - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Has anyone seen any heavy duty cases other than the Otterbox Defender? I take classes in a machine shop and have a job doing maintenance at a gas station, so I need a case with plenty of protection. I've heard talk of the seidio convert but have yet to see one pop up. Also watching Trident closely. Anyone have any suggestions of places to look? i would get a Defender, but I haven't seen one in store yet and want to get my hands on one before buying.

I recommed Otterbox Defender

+1 Bulky, but pretty much bomb proof.

The screen protector membrane on the Defender seems to be a worse grease and fingerprint magnet than the naked Vivid screen. It's a real mess and difficult to keep clean. I'm giving serious thought to cutting it out of the case and using it without any screen protection.

i have the otterbox commuter with an aftermarket screen protector.. and its great.. however if you are doing maintenance and such you probably want to try to find something that has a hard cover over the screen.

I, for one, am not keen on dropping upwards of $10 on a case...
I'm waiting for the Otterbox Impact to hit Amazon, hopefully at the same price as the iPhone one.
Does anyone conclusively know if our phone's screen is Gorilla Glass or not?

If you're gonna do that, I'd just save a few bucks and get an OB Commuter case. They offer similar protection minus a built in screen protector. They do have an adhesive one you can apply that comes with it. They also aren't as bulky. The only drawback is no belt clip.

I cant seem to find anything definitive actually from HTC on this one, but a user on a different site said he sent an email to HTC about his Raider (same thing as the Vivid on a different network) and recieved this response:
"Thank you for contacting HTC Technical support about if your Raider device has Gorilla Glass for the screen of your device. In our commitment to quality, HTC pioneered the use of shatterproof glass in smartphones. At the time, Corning was the only manufacturer and we used their product, Gorilla Glass. Since then, many manufactures have developed and advanced shatter-proof glass technology, allowing HTC to use the highest quality cutting edge shatterproof glass in our smartphones while keeping costs low for our customers."
Meaning, not Gorilla Glass but something thats supposed to be just as good.

Otterbox if you want REALLY GOOD protection against drops

Trident aegis about to order mine now. I had one for my inspire and loved it

I'm using the Ballistic case. Had one on my atrix4g and liked it so much I ordered one 5 minutes after buying the vivid. It has thick rubber on the corners and a hard plastic backing. It doesn't block any ports, cameras, mics , or speakers. Best of all it makes pressing g the power and volume buttons infinitely easier.

All otterbox cases are made in China. There very cheap materials. And the price is just insanely expensive. That's probably why they can afford $600,000 shipping fedex every night. If your responsible you shouldn't need an tough case if you just use it in everyday normal situations. And if your worried insurance is cheap.

I'm gonna +1 on the commuter. its not nearly as expensive as people try to make out. You can get a relatively inexpensive one on amazon or ebay...

+1 without the screen, wouldn't it be pretty much a commuter?

I have/had a defender. The case itself is fine. Protects the phone well. The issue I have and have always had with any phone is the carry case clip breaks too easily. I haven't had my case but maybe two months and the clip that holds the phone in place when you decide to wear it broke. Third time for the clip on case to break. The case for the phone is great but the carry case design is real cheap.

I'm using an otterbox commuter. I really like the way the case feels, though I often swap batteries mid day, and this thing can be a pain to take off and put back on. I had the impact on my captivate, it was a bit loose for my tastes, which is why I got the commuter. Really wish they made an otterbox with a battery door.
I wouldn't sweat no gorilla glass. From what I read the glass it has is equivalent to it. I threw away the included screen protector with my otterbox, and I don't plan on getting one. 1 week in and no scratches so far.
BTW my commuter was only like $15 shipped. I don't consider that a high price at all. I got it off amazon, sold by a company called "smart overstock". I love otterbox cases and will probably continue to buy them.

I use the otterbox commuter with a Moshi White iVisor Screen Protector on mine and it is well protected and the best thing is that the Moshi can be taken off and washed and reused, and there are no bubbles because it only sticks to the area around the screen and they are a great protector. As for otterbox I drive up to their offices in Fort Collins and got my comuter for $10.00 and a defender for $15.00 so they are not that expensive.

I had a Seidio Active case on my Inspire and I LOVED it. I've had the OtterBox defender before and I just find Seidio to be a more solid case. I have one ordered for my Vivid and it should be here Monday. If you want, I'll post pics so you can see.

Question - otterbox commuter or speck case?

Want to know if anyone has tried both and which one they picked?
I need to get a case but can't find a local store to test the speck case. My main concern is the size and if I will be able to easily get it out if my jeans pocket?

I originally bought the commuter, the day I got my phone(launch day) but after 2 days of use I got so fed up with it that I pulled it off and went with no case for about a week before I picked up the Speck, which has been on ever since.
The Speck is FAR thinner than the Commuter... however, it is still very sturdy and feels like it is protecting my vivid.
The Commuter was simply too bulky and I found the cover over the charging port to be difficult to open. in addition it was hard to put on, which makes popping the battery out a problem(something you will have to do if you buy backup batteries Or do much with custom roms).
Thanks for the info I will look for a speck case then!

Otterbox all the way.
Just bought the speck case for my white HTC vivid and by far the best case for the money. Love the case so much and trust me when i say it. I have over 5 cases and if you are looking for a thinner case go with the Tpu style.

I use an otterbox defender. I work in a warehouse environment and have to have a good rugged case. Also like having a beltclip instead of carrying it in my pocket. Would love to see a few different options that offer the same or similar protection though so I can change the look of my phone from time to time and not sacrifice durability.

I have tried these 3: otterbox commuter (grey/blk), speck and incipio (SILICRYLIC). After 2 weeks of try out, I went with otterbox for the reason of protection. I just feel the quality of otterbox provides a lil more protection that the other 2.
At first, I found putting the case on was a hazzle but now it doesn't bother me anymore. I kinda master the skill and able to put on in 5 sec. hehe
As for style or design, I like the speck case.

Similar here, using S CURVED GEL CASE COVER FOR HTC Incredible S. Looks, feels nice and it doesn't make phone bulky. For screen I went with cheapest Matte Anti Glare protector. Survived a couple of drops (~2m) on tiles and still works like new (so I guess this would rate as Good )
Ive got the S one too, its got good grip, the sides are a bit rough so theres great grip.
It kind of breaks it up on the back too, I think it looks a bit weird without the case
It adds better feedback for the buttons too
I had This, very nice
I have the case mate barely there,I guess it won't protect very much, but it came with my phone when I bought it (used).
For screen protectors I use HTC Original ones bought on ebay.de (about 3eur 2protectors) they are nice.

Otterbox defender.
Next best thing to Nintenium. Not cheap though.
I use the casemate barely there cover and a HTC original screen protector too. Reasonably good protection against scrapes and scratches, no extra bulk but won't protect against a hard knock or a drop I reckon.

I am using an Otterbox Commuter case.. The back is very similar to the device itself, but it adds a little bit of bulk to it.. (not much though). This case protects your phone against pretty much everything except for water (offcourse). I even dropped my phone once of the stairs and you couldn't even see it. Another good thing about this case is the fact it has two layers: rubber and a plastic case around it. The positive thing about this: the rubber also protects the earphone jacket and micro USB-plug against dust etc.. That was one of my main reasons to go with this case.. not the cheapest though, but it is excellent! Also comes with a screenprotecter btw..

I have the otterbox defender. The only downside for me was the screen protector. Had a gap and would let dust in, so I took it off. Now I have my own protector, but the case seems a little lose. =/

Otterbox defender is the best with iq shield screen protector
Seems like the answer is the defender but it has couple flaws. Rip out that screen protector, trim that power button, and it gets loose. Idk its alot of modifying for an expensive case. Now if we could just find one without these flaws. Seidio rings a bell but the magnet on the kick stand seems to interfere with the spen from what I gather. And if it breaks from a drop your sol. Thats what they told me. Thumbs down

Well the defender is gonna be the most protection cus your comparing cases in different classes. Aegis and urban armor are both 2 in 1 injection molded cases. Much slimmer amd great protection for their size and weight, but not in the same category as the defender

I cant understand how people compare Aegis and UAG to Defender? They are in a totally different class. Also I cant understand how people vote for UAG a case that isn't available yet? Dont get me wrong. It looks great and most probably I will order one but it shouldn't be in this poll yet. Adding for example the ballistic would make more sense.
depends on the type of drop you plan on doing.
i had a ballistic hardcore case for my atrix 4g. i accidentally dropped it off a second story balcony without the extra silicone layer. survived with nothing cracked. but i would put that down to luck mostly.
if its only a drop from your hip, any cheapo tpu case will do. if its a drop from head height, then i'd go for the big brands.
i would avoid metal bumper cases though. whilst the rigidity of metal cases means they distribute the force fairly evenly around the case, the weakness is that metals also amplify vibrations which can increase the risk of damaging the internals.
i am confused
what is wrong with power button and screen protector in Otterbox Defender ?

Power button seems to stick because of the amount of material on it reported by some users. And the screen protector...this is what is making me go towards the commuter instead. The screen protector is not close enough to the real screen and there is a gap causing issues when touching the screen especially with pinch to zoom and for the spen. Also the screen protector has a cut out for the home button, which is ok but because of that gap I was talking about the cut out hole turns into a vacuum for dust when you press on the screen it suckings in junk. Not a big deal you would think, but that dust rubbing on the screen can possibly be abrasive and cause scratching over time also annoying. The big issue is usability with the screen protector and it seems like ot causes an issue. Fortunately if you really want the defender and you find the screen protector bothers you, you can push it out as it is held on by glue and can be pretty easily removed. A lot of people seem to do that.

Absolutely, apples and oranges. Not to mention that one of the "oranges" is not released yet. I mean, you can compare those cases for S3 line, but still it would be fare to wait until N2 version is released.
so , i decided to order Otterbox Defender and remove the screen
and use my own anti shock screen protractor
do you think it's wise move or i should wait for Urban Armor UAG or more votes ??
I think its wise. ull get more protection from the defender or commuter but more style with the uag.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
IMHO, wait until UAG is released and available on Amazon (assuming you are in US). Get Defender, Commuter, UAG, Ballistic, etc. at the same time. Play around with it, compare, feel it through, and then make a decision. Since UAG is not available yet, it might take a little bit longer for it to be available on Amazon after release on the their website (usually it goes discounted on Amazon). Again, this is just my humble opinion. Read and educate yourself on-line because you will learn details you wouldn't even pick up by looking at it yourself. Once you read plenty of reviews and watch enough YT videos, get your own hands'on experience and make sure you can return it back if not satisfied. Also, keep in mind, do you really need super-duper protection? Or just need an adequate protection? If you work on a factory floor or a contractor working on the roof, it's not even a choice and Defender is the only way to go. But if you are carrying it in the pocket, and/or want to take it with you when you go out - perhaps a thinner more stylish case is the way to go. Some people have insurance (from Best Buy or Square Trade or from service provider), and these people tend to go ultra slim with extra piece of mind knowing they won't have to pay $700 to replace it. By the same token, if you are paying $10 a month insurance and have $100-$200 deductible - perhaps investing in $50 case instead would be a smarter way to go. You got a lot of options. At the end of the day, make a choice based on your own judgment!!!
I would throw the casemate tough case in this mix. Just got one today and its awesome. I have a ballistic and an aegis and the tough case is whats staying on my phone. Will have pics and review for it tonight hopefully in the other thread I created.

The Otterbox Defender is definitely more rugged and tougher than the Casemate Tough. I wouldn't remove the screen protector on the Otterbox Defender, although the pressure sensitivity of the S-pen is highly questionable.

I have both the commuter and defender cases from Otterbox. Both offer solid protection the defender I like more because of the built in screen protector. Keep in mind that the UAG cases don't offer port covers for the headphone jack and USB port which was a selling point for myself. Another key selling point was the customer service. Can't say anything though about UAG because I haven't bought their case nor dealt with their customer service. When I contacted Otterbox about an issue regarding the commuter cases they sent me a free warranty replacement as well as the defender case free of charge.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Do your homework before you buy. Customer support is important, and a big company like Otterbox has a great one based on the fact they are in every service provider store as well as every Best Buy. But the truth of the matter - they rushed with Note 2 design and FAILED to deliver with Defender. And because they are king-of-the-hill-Otterbox, they didn't even want to admit how poorly they executed design of that screen protector. Read hundreds of posts in XDA or AF, and read all Amazon review comments. EVERYBODY complains about screen protector not being flush with a Note 2 screen, thus being concaved up and leaving a gap in between making it feel like you are using $50 resistive touch screen device. Yes, I bought one from Verizon store, couldn't believe my eyes, called Otterbox and they pretended on the phone like have no idea what I'm talking about, sent me an email with case# to reply back with "pictures" so they can send me a replacement. I went back to Verizon store, and went through every Defender they had in stock - all the same problem with a screen protector. Turned on-line to read everybody having this problem and simply just popping out the plastic screen as soon as they buy it. Why would I want to buy $60 (MSRP price) case to destroy it in order to make it work for me? Furthermore, because of that concave up screen, it creates a suction effect through cutout holes in that screen protector, sucking in more dust that will require you taking case apart periodically to clean it up. Do you think those inner plastic case latches will last that long, with constant taking apart? Oh, and that plastic screen protector was awful with s-pen - leaving marks all over the place. And if you remove plastic screen protector - your inner plastic case fitting is not rigid anymore (read about people suggesting to put a tape inside). Port cover-plugs are great in dust environment, but when you are using your phone as GPS in the car and need it to be plugged in - it will become a huge nuisance, not to mention pressure that micro-usb port cover puts on the connector, in both Defender and Commuter. And with Commuter, I personally found back of the case to be slippery and no grip with a surface when you place it on the smooth table top.
If you read testimonials of people who own UAG and dropped their case numerous times, they walk away without a scratch. UAG design is rugged tough and you get a convenience of a molded single piece case where you don't have to take layers off to get to your battery. If you need a super-duper drop protection case, go with CONVERT which offer multiple layers of protection, all the port coverage INCLUDING camera, has a great kickstand, can be stripped down to SURFACE if you don't need all this extra rugged coverage, and has one of the BEST holsters with a locking spring-loaded latch. Just need to invest in a good regular screen protector, like iSmooth which I also highly recommend (3H hardness, easy install with no bubbles, perfect edge adhesion).
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Otterbox down. Its a great company with a great reputation and TONS of sales. That's how they can afford to have such a great support staff and offer warranty replacement and freebies without breaking their bank. They obviously built their reputation of a quality product delivered for all these other phone models, and have a decent iPhone base support. BUT, with Note 2 they rushed to deliver it to the market, and totally ignored all the negative comments. And this is not just my humble opinion. It's everywhere you read about their Note 2 cases. I tried Commuter a couple of times in Sprint store, and walked away. Bought Defender from Verizon store, exchanged it, and then returned a few days later...
three excellent cases for the delightfully successful Galaxy S2 that will keep your precious safe and sound. Whichever you pick – the dual-layer Case-Mate Tough, the feature-filled Otterbox Commuter or the stylish SGP Ultra Capsule – you can be sure that your smartphone is secure.

I'm currently enjoying my Otterbox Commuter and Trident Aegis cases.
I LOVE my dot view case. Great protection, the cover features really do come in handy, and I really dig the overall look. This is my first cover case and I've gotten to used to it really quickly. Besides the dot view that I've also been using Skinomi back skin when I want to go naked to prevent scratches (had issues with my M7). The install was easy, the fit was great, and no visible orange peel that I can see.

100% with you! Love this case, love the magnet on/off and the dot functions. Takes a tiny bit of getting used to if you have not used a flip case (like me). Think it looks pretty slick and smart, ten times better than a generic amazon jelly cases.
I feel all the complaints are a tiny bit unfair, that is... apart from the price. But £30 to protect a £600 phone for two years seems good to me. I think the spring of the cover will dissipate after a month of use so the one handed usability will return.
BUUUUUUUUUUUUT
I think it has sub-par protection capabilities. I only got this case because of the condition of my two year old HOX. Not a scratch on it, never dropped/thrown or scratched. DO NOT BUY THIS CASE FOR PROTECTION. It pops out very easily and the sides are not protected. I'm worried that sliding the phone in and out of my pocket may one day catch the volume rocker then just rip it off.
Good case with minimal protection; otter box or equivalent for repeat drop offenders!!!
I used a Spigel Glas.T slim on my Xperia Z, and it was a huge disappointment, cause the glass was so thick that the edges became a 90 angle which caught on stuff. However, the case I got with the M8 (Scandinavia. Don't know what the case is called) has a little lip outside of the edges, so it might be OK with this phone.
Of course, then I'd have to wear the case all the time, which isn't really that big of a problem, but who knows what cool cases might appear in the future, without a lip...
Maybe I'm overthinking this

Haha you're probably right. I typically go naked with all my phones so I might feel a bit over protected by having a full cover case on for the first time.
Very subjective as people have different needs for their cases.
For me, I find the UAG to be the best case for me.
TPU covers are minimal but also provide minimum protection.
OtterBox Defender cases provide excellent protection but add a large amount of bulk.
For me, the UAG is the best of both worlds. Very good impact protection but does not add a ton of bulk.
I second uag. Just got mine today and absolutely love it. Provided good protection and isn't very bulky also the design is very cool. I saw some drop videos of this case on various phones and it stood up to a 6 foot drop flat on the screen, now that's impressive.

The spigen slim arm or looks like good case. Very sleek looking in my oponion. Mine will be delivered today. It offer good protection without making the phone very thick.

Great case. Very well crafted. i used lots of cases in the past and they seem to have some imperfection. with this one i haven't noticed any. the camera cut off is perfect. the buttons are very responsive better than the one on the phone. the M8 was very slippery not anymore with this case. very solid on hand. it,s a bit heavy and adds little bit of bulkiness but that,s not issue for me. overall great looking case that offers sleek look and good protection.
it blocks the IR blaster but no big deal for me
I really like how all of Spigen's cut outs on all of their cose styles are exact to the leanses and flash etc. Instead of larger mutli use holes. It just makes it look so much nicer.

Others have actually posted the opposite stating the cutouts are a little bit off and especially around the silver trim around the camera.

This, hands down: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJ0R02Y/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Looks gorgeous, feels amazing, slides easily in and out of pocket, doesn't attract lint, and it's very affordable.
All you UAG guys I encourage you to give this one a try. I used to be a die-hard UAG user, but I just got this and it easily won me over and the best thing is that it's less than half the price of UAG's cases.

I also highly recommend this case. Great grip. Frosted back let's the aluminum show through. IR blaster still works. Minimal bulk with decent protection.

Found i-BLASON for M8 here.
Additional costs for Shipping & Handling (International Standard Shipping) $16.99
You won't find SUPCASE HTC One 2 / HTC One Plus Case - Unicorn Beetle Premium Hybrid Protective Case for M8 on their site but they're already offering it here: amazon.co.uk
I contacted them for international orders on this item - waiting for an answer.
