The "Stay Awake" option under the Development settings, is checked on my Tab (it always is). However, it seems to serve no purpose at all. The phone will never stay awake, regardless of whether or not this option is selected.
Any suggestions for a fix?
Thanks.

When my screen goes to sleep, my Wifi or my data connection stops (whichever one I'm using).
If I'm listening to the radio using Radio Time, the sound stops after the screen sleeps. An interesting thing to note is that if you go to the lock screen, it starts playing again. It seems like the screen just needs to be on. The problem seems to be limited to just certain applications because Pandora still plays after the screen turns off.
Another app, Android Web Desktop, which allows you to text and manage your files from the computer, doesn't work correctly either. Nothing loads while my screen is off but it starts loading once I turn my screen on.
I'm running on a Sprint HTC Hero with DamageControls v2.07.2 ROM for Android 2.1. I also have a Flan lockscreen. I don't know whether the problem is ROM related or what.
Does anybody know why this is happening and how I can fix this?
Please Help!
Make sure always on mobile data in settings is checked.

I just check the settings and I already had always on checked. Should I just wipe and see if the problem goes away? Am I the only one with this problem?
check the wifi sleep policy as well.
Settings>Wireless & Networks>Wifi Settings> [press menu] > Advanced >Wifi Sleep Policy
Setting it to never will make the wifi radio never disconnect, at the expense of battery, of course.
I have it too, although I sort of assumed it was by design. Makes for a pretty frustrating experience trying to use Gmote or Boxee Remote.

I'm still having the problem kinda. It seemed to not turn it off as fast. It stopped working after about 30 seconds in Android Desktop and RadioTime kept playing but was very skippy. Are you having this problem? I don't understand why certain app work and certain don't.

For problems with Gmote and Boxee Remote, this fixed my issue.

That was a useful suggestion. To go a bit further on this point. You can turn on/off your wifi (and more) by using applications like timeriffic when you really don't need it. Eg, when you're sleeping. Timeriffic changes some of your profiles based on time so it would be a great option to add to this setting change.

I use Juice Defender to do the same thing and I let it manage my mobile data connection. Helps stretch out the times between charges a little bit despite me using my phone very heavily.
Solution , for me
http://www.pocketables.com/2013/10/...ing-trouble-using-certain-apps-over-wifi.html
Turn off WiFi optimization .
I've searched a bit and did not find an answer. I'd like my android to turn on the wifi from time time while the screen is off (device asleep) and to check for emails/facebook etc.
I've found such option in a non-free JuiceDefender version, but is there no more options for that?
Additional question. Juice Defender can be set to check based on location whether I am at home and to turn off/on wifi accordingly. Can it be set, so at home/work my wifi is always off and in other locations - off?
Thank you!
As we all know, for some bizarre reason Samsung have removed the "Keep screen on while charging" option, and I have been using an app called AnyScreenTimeout to provide this functionality.
However, whenever I switch off my phone and switch it back on again, the "Stay on while plugged in" option in AnyScreenTimeout has become unticked.
I have tried a few different apps which also claim to keep the screen on while plugged in (e.g. Screen Off Timeout), but none of them survive a switch off and on again.
Any ideas? This really bugs me - when I am on mains power, I don't want my screen to turn off.
You could use Tasker (Paid) or Llama (free) and create a profile to disable the screen timeout while charging.
When using Llama just remember to create another profile to enable the timeout again, when diconnected.
Thanks!
I'm actually already using PhoneWeaver as a profile manager and it is able to do what I want. Many thanks for suggesting looking at a profile manager though - I was trying to fix this in totally the wrong way.
also you can use default clock apps.which is already in your G-note.go to desk clock.
I would prefer that my screen remain ON when I have my MotoX plugged in while driving. I use the Car Home Ultra app and the setting to keep screen on doesn't seem to work. I can't figure out which phone setting is cause the screen to turn off no matter what. Any ideas?
You can set the screen to stay on while charging in Developer options. It is a hidden menu in settings. To access it go to about phone and scroll down to the build number and click it repeatedly until you see a message you're now a developer. Then back out and Developer options should now be above about phone. Choose the stay awake option to keep the phone from sleeping while charging. Please note that the screen will stay awake while charging at home as well.

There is an added Dim Screen in Qualcomm settings that works in conjunction with the Dev option, which is also duplicated in QS.

The Option Given by User " Dark9781" is the Best.....
However, 2 more Options Here:
Download the Official Motorola App. SMART ACTIONS from Google Play. Or something Similar...
In the Car Dock Option / Charging Option you can set the Display Screen 'Off' to NEVER.
[ The Motorola Droid RAZR has an app developed by Motorola called Smartactions, which allows for automated tasks based on time, battery charge, and other phone sensors.]
Smart Actions is the same as 'Assist' Which is Provided by MotoX
2) In case You just Need A Screen On feature / Clock On / Photos/ While Charging.....
MOTO X Has a feature Called 'daydream'
Go to Settings > Display > Daydream...
When to Day Dream.... U can Set the Clock to stay on While Charging / Docked
just a warning from personal experience, AMOLED screens are fairly vulnerable to burn-in, letting the screen stay on for extended periods of time will cause it. had my gnex set up this way and it permanently has the tunein radio logo burned in, from leaving the screen on while driving.

The only problem with using Smart Actions is that it is not compatible with newer devices such as the X. It may be possible to sideload it, but it may not work properly.
Edit: Tasker may be an alternative to Smart Actions, but it is not free.

So I have active display on and no other options checked to keep my screen on for any reason yet whenever I receive a notification (only while on charge does this occur) my lock screen shows up instead of active display and it doesn't shut itself off. This doesn't seem like that big of an issue until I wake up and my phone is 125°F. Any remedies for this?

Sounds like maybe you should consider a factory reset, and if that doesn't fix the issue, a full SBF back to stock.
I cannot think of any setting that would cause this, unless you want to provide more details on what if any modifications you have made. Let us know what you do/decide...
Is it possible you have "Stay awake while charging" enabled in Developer settings?
I'm on 4.4.2 rooted with jcases pie exploit only thing I have done is gravity box. I double checked to make sure and I didn't have the screen always on activated.
