Hi there,
What is the best rom I can use that will make my captivate phone look like a galaxy s2 ?
Is there some kind of port rom or custom rom?
Thanks.

There are all sorts of custom ROMs and many of them are themed at least a little. I would poke around the forums, both in the stickies above in this forum and in the developers's one, look at screen shots (usually in the first post of the thread), and find one that suits your fancy.
Any particular suggestions?
If you want to run an sgs2 rom itself, there's an sgs2 port for the i9000. It's called hawkish. To run it, all you need is to flash a reoriented kernel (talon, dark core, xcal, etc.) and edit the key layout. I made a thread a while back if you're interested.
Hawkish already has its own captivate thread, but it hasn't been updated in forever...

Yeah that's why I'm saying just do my method
Thanks! Any other suggestions for roms that are for captivate itself?

Hey everyone, first off I understand that flashing a rom built for another device is asking for trouble or a soft-brick, in where odin would come into play however being that these I9000 roms which have been ported to the Captivate have already been modified, how difficult would it be to port a ported rom to the Vibrant. Is this even unheard of? Insight would be very much appreciated... Thanks!

In theory it should not be hard. You would need a re-oriented kernel for the vibrant though. As well as a modem that works with the vibrant. Basically I can take just about any i9000 rom unpack the zip, replace the kernel and modem, repack, flash. The re-oriented kernel fixes issues with the buttons not matching. If rhett are none for the vibrant then I would say no. there are no i9000 ports on vibrant? If there are you can likely steal the kernel from that rom zip drop it into the rom of your choosing.

Well the only recently ported rom out there soft reboots sporadically for an undetermined reason... I scour these Captivate fourms (the wife has a Captivate) and can't help but realize the development here has seen some huge strides in way of porting roms...
I am planning on trying something soon then to see if I can make progress... Just wanted to see if I could pick some brains...
Thanks again!

If you flash an i9000 ROM/Kernel untouched on the Captivate it will boot/work just fine, but the screen is rotated 90 degrees, the home/back button are incorrect, and bluetooth/sound are messed up.
I imagine it would be similar on a Vibrant.
Yeah I am wondering now how I could obtain a reoriented kernel for the Vibrant.. Kernel development for the Vibrant seems to be slow at this point....

You mean you wait until you get a soft brick before resorting to using Odin? Blasphemy!
Lol, you know what I mean!

It looks like the buttons are the same. Maybe the Captivate kernel would work. I'd give it a shot, but you never know what would happen.
Odin is such a nice luxury.

eugene373 already did this with xcaliburinhand's help https://github.com/barakinflorida/Vibrant-open
i9000 and captivate have 90 degree rotation issue, keymapping differences, and bluetooth issues
i9000 and vibrant have same orientation, but GPS and keymapping differences.
9 times out of 10, "porting" an i9000 ROM to another SGS device would just require replacing the zImage with a "reoriented" one as long as they have the same functionality.
Yep, I am working up the courage to try something...
Thanks for the input!

Any ROM you get from this forum will have installation instructions. This is the best place to start.
Gingerbread has not been officially released yet so I doubt you will find any ROMs based on it. Most custom ROMs are based on JPU and JPY (both FroYo), but they do have some Gingerbread elements installed.

Nice to see galaxy have recovery and 3 button mode.
Both are working on my galaxy.
Very easy to install custom rom.
But Xperia x10 need to root then install recovery and then custom rom.

Hi all,
I am looking for a HoneyComb theme compatible with JK4 modem (I am on Juiced 2.0.5). Or please post any other themes that are compatible with Juiced 2.0.5. (Would any JK4 compatible theme work with Juiced 2.0.5?)
Thanks

is this a real question? I'm literally slackjawed because of this.
modems and themes have nothing to do with each other.

I bursted out laughing at work .. lol
Please OP.. Go read, that's what stickies are there for
First off try looking in the first few posts of the roms thread maybe the. Dev has a list or a link to compatible themes. Then look at the captivate theme and apps subforum and look at the themes in there maybe the first couple posts of a specific theme say the roms its compatible with.
You asked what do you base off of what to look for in terms of compatibility. Figure out the build number like js8 (a 2.2.1 i9000 rom) or JVB (a 2.3.3 i9000 rom) and see what themes are compatible with that build. Its possible just looking at build compatibility will yeld results but not guaranteed.
Keep reading! I've spent a whole lot of time in the almost 6 months I've had this phone and still learn new stuff constantly. Don't just go into this willie nillie unless you have a jig and are prepared to start from scratch!

I wonder how hard it would be to port the AOKP to the captivate. I got a chance to play with it on the facinate and it was very nice with a ton of customization.
I see it is already on the i9000. Now correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I read somewhere that any i9000 rom could be used on the crappy you just had to replace the kernel. I could be wrong anybody?

Isn't one already out there? I didn't replace the kernel until recently, I would suggest not to change the kernel. Had better battery life until i recently changed the kernel.

AOKP Rom
I've been running that ROM for a few days and I love it. It still seems so great to be able to run Ice Cream Sandwich on my Capitivate!

There is an official vibrant build here:

To use on cappy you can follow vibranturk's guide here and it will work wonders:

Using this method, I'm running latest vibrantmtd with Icy Glitch on my cappy and it's great.

Doesnt any one know where do i find such a rom its another rom that is called cleanrom but cleanrom is for the wifi only tab i want it for the p1000
I just read Cleanrom thread.
Nothing special. It is just a tweak Samsung euro gb rom for P1010.
Tweaked by removing Samsung bloatware and added adw launcher.
So your equivalent for P1000 will be Overcome 4.1 ?
Or Acudroid ROM, which I prefer to Overcome, especially with Redpill kernel.
