Hello...
Since there isn't a P990H specific forum or ROMs available, I thought I would my questions here:
1. Besides the baseband (i.e. RF) side, are the P990 and the P990H same? How about P999?
2. If #1 is true, I assume I can use the custom ROMs for either P990 or P999 for P990H. I looked the CM zip files, and there isn't a baseband update included, so I am inclined to think I am right. Does anyone know for sure?
3. What would you consider the most stable custom ROM at the moment? Modaco FR19, or CM7? I am after the ASOP experience as much as possible.
I just bought a P990H (to be used with AT&T SIM), when it arrives, I'll be diving into getting a custom ROM installed and wanted to make sure I don't end up with an expensive brick.
Your help is much appreciated.
As far as I know, most of the p990 Roms and kernels are not compatible with the P999. You should see the pages of the roms you would like and ask their coders. if they are compatible.
OK... so, if the P990 ROMs aren't compatible with the P999 ROMs, how about the P990H? I've seen people with P990H who flashed P990 ROMs, but I am not sure if these are limited to a specific set of ROMs or all.
have a P990Hn and customs roms are working for me... The best working rom i found is the Modaco Gr2

Thanks for the confirmation! Did you just follow the same instructions as the P990H for loading custom ROMs?
I would love to hear your assessment of the Gr2. Is there any glaring thing that doesn't work?
By the way, are you using the stock baseband, or did you update it? If you updated, which one would you recommend?

Everything is the same! No special instructions to follow
And everything is working on this rom and it's been pretty stable for an alpha the only issue i had it was because i didn't wipe before and after the rom installation.
There is also a Gr3 comming at the end of the month so it's only getting better

No change on the baseband, i use the stock one
From the research i made it look like the only difference between these phones are the frequency they can work on (yours is on 850/1900 i think) other than that i don't think the modem on those phones are different.
i was looking for some info as well. does flashing a custom rom change the baseband or 3G bands of the p990h?

No, if you dont update the baseband (and you shouldn't) then you'll be okay.. You should probably also save the RIL from original ROM (and put back to the new one) so that everything is working as it should. the RIL is located in /system/lib/lge-ril.so
Thanks For the info guys
Could we flash for example a g2x kernel ( not rom) designed for cm7 on an optimus 2x with cm7?
No. Kernels and roms are designed on/for specific hardware which in case of o2x and g2x are very similar but not exactly the same, so it can brick your phone. Cm7 for that two phones are different, so are kerneal too. That and there are forums for each phone separately, so logical is that it will not work .
But I am sure that you can find more detailed info with googling .
Can O3D roms built for the O3D be directly flashed to the thrill (like normal thrill roms) without the need of doing anything different or changing anything to the phone? If not, what must be done to use their roms if possible?
Would appreciate an answer, thank you
Yes,they can be flashed directly.
but the O3D roms does not support 4G,but some users say they get 4g speed on O3D roms..
Hi everyone!
I successfully updated my P925g to GB v20c, rooted and got rid of all rogers crap.
I installed PimpMyCPU app to throttle CPU down when phone is not used.
Now I'm ready for next challenge - install custom ROM.
I read that CM-nighties are the same for P920 and P925. So what about other ROMs?
I used to have Optimus 2x (European) and played with lots of ROMs and basebands because I couldn't get 3G data in rural Ontario. At the end I found the problem - European model doesn't have WCDMA850 capabilities. So I had to get rid of the phone.
I would just dive and start playing around. But I read some guys were softbriking their phones
From Optimus 2x I know there are different RILs for different parts of the world. What about Thrill (aka 925g)? Should I worry about it?
And what about baseband? Does it come separately from ROM (like in o2x) or it will be reflashed with every ROM?
Thanks in advance!
The CM7 rom's are different for the p920 and p925. More on that on a sec.
AFAIK there is no way to flash baseband separate from rom.
Of note: the p925 and p920 use identical hardware so the key difference is in radio and partitions. Ergo if you'd flashed v21a (which is for the p920) on your thrill, you'd use the p920 CM7 rom, but since you flashed the v20c thrill one you'll need the p925 CM7.

I have seen in many places that most Roms for the O3D p920 are also compatible for our Thrill4G p925 (the hardware is nearly identical), but when I attempt to flash them from twrp it won't let the install start because its not the correct model number. What kind of modifications are necessary to these ROMS to make them installable on our p925?

Make sure you aren't trying to flash Optimus 3D Max ROMs. Different device totally.
