Hi
I've been using the Stock 2.3.4 (JVP) ROM, with CF-ROOT 3.7 (JVP based) Kernel (for root privileges) for a long time now...
Now, I wanted to try the Semaphore Kernel (for voodoo sound, better battery life, etc).. but, the latest Semaphore Kernel is a JVT based Kernel.
So my question obviously is, Can i flash the latest Semaphore Kernel (1.9.0) over my existing JVP based ROM without any issues??
if not, what would be more productive, Switching to a JVT ROM altogether? OR Finding some older version of Semaphore for JVP?
(I really dont wanna loose all my apps etc, its too cumbersome to install them again even if its using the titanium backup..)
(then again, an older version of kernel wont be supported, and may cause issues..)
dont know much about JVP but i've tested stock JVS rom before together with TalonDEV, Galaxian & Semaphore kernels respectively and had no problems.
TalonDEV is ext4 autoconvert
Galaxian is compatible with ext4 (convert manually)
Semaphore is compatible with ext4 (convert manually)
I'm on Semaphore now, running flawlessly.
Thank you
Do you know if the latest semaphores 2.1.1 can be flashed over stock JVT?

So I used to use the super optimized kernel for it's oc abilities, but since I've flashed darky 9.4 I can't use it anymore for some reason, so does anyone know another kernel to use?
Have you tried DamianGTO's Kernel? I do love this kernel. Although I'm on Doc's ROM, I think it may work on Darky's 9.4, since it's also based on JS8. It has both Odin and CWM flavors.
Have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959696
Hmmm...I'm sitting and thinking what kernel to use with JVK...
Supercurio's?
Hacked Lagfix/Ext4 Samsung Galaxy S Gingerbread - JVK
A well known programmer stands behind this kernel... Stable for sure...
Con: CWM 2, or maybe it's a pro for now?
He updated the kernel, you can now connect via adb in recovery.

Chainsfire's?
CF-Root 2.6
It's more like a stock kernel with root option.
- The kernel is fully stock and taken from the original firmware, with just the following added:
- Root
- Superuser 2.3.6.1
GINGERBREAD ( CF-Root >= 2.4 versions, JVK and newer )
---- Busybox v1.16.2androidminimal (from CWM)
---- Integrated CWM 3.0.0.5 / RFS

DamianGTO's?
DamianGTO Ultimate Ginger Kernel (Beta 3)
- Optimized kernel tweaks.
- Low memory killer minfree settings (60MB).
- Deadline schedueler (Optimized).
- Touchscreen sensitivity (High)
- CWM 3.0
- Auto Root (Busybox and Superuser)

The last two have CWM 3 injected, while curio's kernel using CWM 2.
CWM 3 has orange font color (speedmod-green, voodoo-red).
CWM 3 can be used to flash only updates.zip that contain edify scripting, so you won't be able to flash ie. current speedmod kernel in cwm version, but now Hardcore didn't come up with his JVK kernel yet.
You may find out if an update zip is CWM compatible by looking into META-INF\com\google\android\. If there are the below files then you may flash it in CWM 3:
updater-script
update-binary
In old ammend script updates you'll only see update-script file.
The only having sorta optimisations is DamianGTO's. But... I would love to hear your opinions. Which kernel is best for now, when no gingerbread kernel sources hasn't been released yet and no real hacking can be involved...
I vote for damian's kernel. Supercurio's kernel was unstable for me, but faster ofc. Using now damian's beta 2

Damian GTO is the best so far...
Wouldn't it be a good idea then to use the damian kernel for daily use and use the SGS kernel flasher to go back to voodoo when you need CWM2 for ROM upgrade....?
I have to vote for supercurio's lag fix off. Stable for me and smoother scrolling
Stock XXJVK, Voodoo GB hack Kernel, JVE GB Modem
Anybody wrote opinion about CF-Root 2.6 , please ?
Regards
I'm using Supercurio's kernel with lagfix enabled - haven't had any speed (surprise) or stability issues

CF-Root is just for rooting and CWM.
Supercurio's with ext4. Some things (market, for example) are MUCH faster than without ext.
With JVK I went with CF-root (for rooting, and a CWM3-only update) and then Supercurio's for general usage afterwards.
So far I've done the same with the new JVB-firmware and it seems to work very well. Any opinions on this now that we have a new firmware to play with?
Supercurio's still the best? Or does Damian's have an edge in other areas which Supercurio's doesn't address?
I've use the simply honey 3.1 rom and I think is the best rom now.
but I want change the kernel to use voodoo amp and some other function
and every kernel I try has the same problem. the system not loading after flashed the kernel.
there is kernel I can use without this problem?
sorry for my bad english
Try Damian's ultimate beta7
**Simply Honey 3.0, UltimateGB beta7 kernel, JQ1 modem**
Yeah, try the Damians kernel Beta 7, or if you want the Voodoo Sound, try the latest FuguMod Kernel, that is awesome!
Sent from my SGS with Simply 3.1 JVB ROM
I want to change kernal so I can over-clock, the supermod kernal which was included with Simpley Honey is ok, but not that fast.
So I need your opinion on something maybe "Voodoo" but is an easy flash with Odin, but wont brick my phone, last time i flashed supermod on its own via odin i soft bricked my phone, but that was not with Simpley Honey.
So suggestions and links are most appreciated
Try semaphore kernel.
Galaxian is the best
Sent from my sgs
kernel: galaxian
Rom: jetpack
The TOP 3 are:
Semaphore
Talon Kernel 4.4.21
Galaxian
Thanks folks, now, in the past when i have changed kernals with odin, i have ended up soft bricked. Am i safe to go from current dark core kernal to one of the above ?
Talon comes in CWM package and its been safe for me. I have been trying it from 4.3 versions. So far all's been good. Try Talon 4.4.21
Just a quick question: I have a stock JVQ rom on my Samsung galaxy S and I recently installed Semaphore's JVQ 1.3.3 kernel. I am wondering if its possible to install the new Semaphore JVS 1.7.0 kernel on my JVQ rom phone.
Yes you can flash 1.7.0

Hey, i'm wondering. Why is it possible ? I'm new to that Kernel installation thing. I run darkys rom with its own darkcore kernel 2.9.3 which is a jvq kernel with a jvq rom and afaik they say it isnt possible to run darkcore 3.1 for example which is for jvr.
so can you explain why its possible ?
