I know absolutely nothing about Android development, but here's hoping that another dev here can make sense of it.
I love the confidence.

An "efuse" hardware chip? Wow Motorola!
I like the screen of the droid x, I like the size, but there is no way I could in good conscience buy this phone. Motorola has just slapped the dev community in the face.
Even Iphone doesn't have this BS , i guess Motorola one upped apple by kicking customers twice in the balls.
couldn't they run into some legal issues with this efuse method?
what about women?

What we need to do is setup a site called "WeWant2RootDroidX.com" and make all tech blogs in the world link to it.
Well, just an idea.

The Droid X is already rooted though. The bootloader is what everyone is concerned about.

Link to news of root?
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010...-the-droid-x-may-not-lead-to-a-bricked-phone/
Apparently the original Droid has the same "eFuse". I think we need to reserve judgement until we find out if Moto is utilizing it or not. Just because it's there doesn't mean it's in use.
I was about to say the same thing, this chip is nothing new and doesn't stop you from rooting, get real, they even advertised the ability to root this phone in their ads

I don't know if I've seen an ad talking about root, but...
I talked to a device tester today and apparently there is something VERY different about the Droid X bootloader. They had VERY specific instructions from Moto that if the bootloader (MBM) didn't match exactly what they required to send the phone back to have the MBM updated. If it wasn't it would corrupt the phone.
Not sure if this is the same as the "eFuse", but should be interesting to see what happens the first time someone tries to mess with the bootloader.
Sorry for any misunderstanding. I dont have anything that works.

Yes.
This has been going on for at least a day. There are some other posts about it, especially on the is this FINALLY it? thread. I think it's just AT&T and/or Samsung doing some server maintenance.
Well all I can say is that this is extremely retarded way of getting anything done.

You know 2 people at my work have hd2's and were trying to convince me to downgrade the phone. I really like the new wm7 platform and can't wait for it to evolve. This phone IS a smart phone.
Agree with you on that although I hope MS comes with a lovely update quickly and get more apps for us on the market place

Just keep in mind it's Windows Phone 7 and not Windows Mobile 7. The change in name is meant to denote a complete departure from the old to the new. WP7 in no way resembles WM and is completely new from the ground up. Let your friends know WP7 is a whole new ballgame and they need to get involved with.

What MS needs to do is to release those 50 "Launch" titles (games) that they promised and boasted about at past press releases for Day 1. This weekly release like other XBLA titles is completely crap. You hope for a good game then get something crappy....like that Fast & Furious game.....

Because when I initially got the phone- I was unhappy about the lack of tethering. I can still Tether with my TP2 so until or if a fix is made- I can deal with it. WP7 is worth waiting for the updates.

This is incredible.. finally Microsoft is waking up!
It’s been a while since we posted something. Between fixing state machines and avoiding the paparazzi, we have been busy tinkering with Microsoft behind the scenes.
As you may remember, one of our goals was to make Windows Phone development more accessible. Plans have recently solidified and we can now reveal a solution we’ve been working on.
As announced on the Windows Phone Dev Podcast, we will soon be launching an approved Windows Phone unlocking service as part of ChevronWP7 Labs. This will be available to developers across all skill levels and all regions

wait, one has to pay to use the unlocker? Or did I read that all wrong?
EDIT: Nope I read right
The service will require a small fee — currently via PayPal — to offset costs but we assure you it will be more affordable than the App Hub. Those who wish to write and immediately publish apps are recommended to sign up to the App Hub instead.

It is not MS themselves who are making this. It is a developer who is creating this tool and MS is supporting it.
If you cant find it in yourself to support the developer for this awesome tool then stay locked and dont complain.

Think of the options. If they make one device and you can have your pick of sense, aosp, or windows which is actually gaining market share. I think the idea is kinda brilliant. Especially if its the same exact device.
How is it considered spreading yourself thin if you're making the same device on multiple carriers anyways?
It would be a great idea to have one device with multiple platform choices. However, it sounds like the Windows device is going to have ddr3 memory so I wonder what else will be different? I could completely see myself switching platforms weekly, it's like getting a new phone, but keeping the same one.

It would be illegal to put windows on your phone if it didn't come with it. It would also be illegal to modify it, or distribute a windows ROM.

This is the same age old question/problem that has plaqued XDA since it's inception. Technically, everything we do here on the site is Illegal (or at least against the wishes of the manufacturers).

When did this change? I got started in modifying my phone with windows mobile and it was never an issue then. That's when i started on xda and ppcgeeks. ROM development was a different scene and the process was different but windows software was modified hacked and releases for the masses.

Nothing changed. As I said before, it is the same old issue that has always been an issue. Technically most ROM modification stuff going on here is illegal.
A few thoughts:
1 - The difference between us and the HD2 is that the HD2 started with Windows Phone on it. Then, it got an improved Windows Phone 7, but I think they got away with it because the device initially had WP. Then, it got Android. In that order, its fine because Android is open source. Unfortunately, WP is not open source. MeeGo and Tizen are open source, and perhaps could be ported to the One if the development is good enough/popular enough. Never underestimate the power of the developers on this forum: especially when they team up.
2 - They get an SD card slot? UNFAIR!! :crying:
3 - @raptoro07 It says in your sig. that you have 2 HTC Ones. Wanna give one to me? Lol I haven't gotten mine yet--I'm not sure if I'll go with AT&T or Sprint. I really wanna stay with Sprint since I've met a lot of devs on here that have Sprint who I like and I want to have their work on my future devices. But, as long as I'm on a shared plan with my parents, I can't make that decision. This qualifies another :crying: if you ask me.

If you don't mind the ugly logo on the back, the AT&T One is exactly like the Google Play edition/Dev edition (AFAIK). Except, you know, the logo on the back.
Also, Android is open source. Windows is not. That means it's less illegal...
While the actual distribution of full ROMs is technically illegal (you're "stealing" HTC's code), I'm pretty sure you're allowed to modify your own phone, even if it does remove warranty.

Windows is paid ssoftware with a very restrictive license. Cyanogenmod, aosp, linux kernel, and many other projects here are free and have open source licenses that encourage people to modify and distribute the software.

However Sense, Beats, Touchwiz, and other OEM software is not open and therefore redistribution of them and modifications are technically illegal. My point was only to say that it is no different than 90% of what is going on XDA.

If you ask me, neither look like something to write home about. I would've loved it back in 2011 when I went to buy an HTC Arrive. But, then I got an Android, and, yeah I'm pretty much addicted now.
BUT ON THE OTHER HAND....
Android could be ported to either of these devices with no real legal uncertainty... It depends which and how many devs buy one.
