INSTRUCTIONS:
This bootanimation.zip file needs to go into /system/media.
1. Use Root explorer to just copy it from your SD card to that location.
OR
2. ADB or Terminal Emulator:
Assuming your /system partition is set to rw (read-write), you just open a command prompt and cd to the directory containing the bootanimation.zip. You then type "adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media".

The instructions seem simple enough, but I, for the life of me, can't get it to show up? I haven't messed around with bootanimations but I tested using a different one (Apex's) and it worked fine.
did you test the apex animation on the illuminance rom?
if people got this to work, please post here and give us your detailed instructions for mounting this on the illuminance rom. thanks!

All I did was rename apexboot.zip to bootanimation.zip, place it in /system/media and restart!

Ok. Can you attach the apexboot file if possible? I would like to check it out and figure out where the problem resides in this custom bootanimation.
Thanks In Advance!
Sure thing. Here you go!

Here are some icons that I ripped out of an Eclair ROM I found here on XDA. You can use them with your favorite icon editing app. Enjoy.
EDIT: Updated some icons based on some themes floating around here. I will most likely not be updating this anymore. I used these icons before I found a full theme and figured I'd post them for anyone who wanted to change some of their icons without having to flash a full theme. So, here they are.

It's a very lengthy and tedious process, but here goes:
1) Open up your ROM (with something like WinRAR) and pull all the apps from /system to somewhere like your desktop.
2) Then open the apk in winrar and find the find the icon, they're normally in the res/drawables folder.
3) Then find the icon you want to replace it with, give it the same name as the icon it's replacing, and drag it in to winrar. It should ask if you want to replace, say yes and you're done
4) Repeat for as many apps as you want.
Thanks alot man!

The easiest way to use these icons without having to change individual APKs is to use AnyCut or BetterCut. You still have to do them individually but the good thing is that My Backup Pro will save the state of those changes if you ever have to restore your home screen.
But like I said in the OP edit, I now use a theme so I no longer use these.
Thanks for your help. it's very useful.
But you are using Cyanogen 4.2.3.1, Can i use Cyanogen on my hero.
I tried unable to

it would tell you invalid signature or some other error. these are icons, there are no .apk files in this, there is no META-INF folder, so in essence, nothing would happen.
I did not create the original animation. It can be found all over the web and I have no idea who created it. Credit goes to him/her.
This boot animation is based off of this gif:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I added a background layer, removed almost 200 frames (the original was almost 900 frames) optimized the images and made an "ERIS" loop at the end.
.
Note: Sometimes my phone boots up too fast and the animation doesn't make it all the way to the end. Please report how your phone does and I will update accordingly. Enjoy!
That's a badass bootanimation thanks for your work,any way you know how to change the in call screen?

doesn't work on at all on my phone. Evil Eris 3.0 rooted, etc.
I did install it through the recovery menu though. Is there anything specific beyond "Install zip file" that needs to be done?

Yea you don't flash this through recovery. Put it in your tools folder on your pc and "adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/"

ah. guess I'll have to wait till I get home from work to try it out then.
Get root explorer in market you can move it from SD card or to data/system/media and paste and it'll ask to overwrite and Say yes. Do easy and fast
Just installed, rebooted phone and runs perfect. No changes that needs to be made that I can see, looks awesome! I keep running adb shell bootanimation just so I can keep watching it. Great job
I did it, finally
First of all, Id like to thank to JsChiSurf for his original instruction for other SENSE phone.
Remember to do !NANDROID BEFORE!

If you want to have somethink like this, do:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /data/misc/lockscreen
rm *
After this you have to delete all HTCLockscreen wallpapers.
I prefer to use Android Commander.
Go to /system/customize/resource
delete all wallpaper with *lockscreen.jpg end
After this download zip from attachment, unpack it to sdk/tools dir and:
Code:
adb push HtcLockScreen.apk /system/app
adb reboot
Tested on Robomix 2.0b, It should work on other Hero ROM's. I hope you like it
man...
... dont try this on an ChocolateRom 2.1 :=)...
results in something like this...
you have to know that you have to drag the unlock mechanism from top to bottom^^ - besides the strange look^^
best regards,
mike
I had this when i havent pushed HtcLockScreen.apk - same results
Hmm,
Adb command line told me push was successful... directly afterwards i did the restart.
Can u confirm that it works for 2.1?
Thanks a lot,
Greets,
Mike

i don't have balls to try it, because my gingerbread is working awesome and looks georgeous. but the circle mod status bar will fit perfect in my theme... who ever will test it, will get a "thanks" (if it is enough).
by the way: very useful thread!!!
just read this:

have you managed it and how? do you have any errors after that? thx in advance.
i'm one step closer now: i tried to extract the framework-res.apk by adb, (re)place the old battery icons by the new ones with winrar (as a lot of tutorials say on google), gave the framework-res.apk the permission 644 and adb it back to phone. i don't get errors, but the icon is stuck 80%... just when i plugin usb, it changes to charging icon (but this is stuck, too - no animation!)
can anybody try this please? i would like to know if it's related to my build (mdj gingerbread 2.2) or if i made some mistakes?! editing stat_sys_battery.xml should not be necessary, since i just replaced a few icons, right? thx in advance for suggestions.

I think i might be the right place as it involves CWM
it's not an app after all when it need CWM (Flashing )
Way back when, I had a Nexus S. This is an image of a favorite boot animation that I used:

}
I have recreated the boot animation, and scaled it for the Nexus 6P (i.e., 1440x2560).
The original by Xen_0s is here.
Just copy the attachment to /system/media/bootanimation.zip. You should probably set permissions to 644 as well. (Note: The attachment is not flashable.)
Great work. Thanks. Looks very nice on the 6P.
There is a bit of lag when the inner light hits about 2 o'clock. Other than that, very fluid.

Noted. The same 'flaw' is in the original boot animation. I've contacted Xen_0s to see if he still has the original graphics so that this can be fixed.

Thanks for sharing, this is a pretty cool ani.
Do you know if you can add a boot sound?
I'm used to Samsung and you could add a sound to PowerOn.ogg.

I believe this will work:
1. Download attachment and unzip it.
2. Put bootanimation.zip and PowerOn.ogg in /system/media.
3. Set permissions for both to 644 (rw-r--r--).
If that doesn't work, you'll need to research how to fix it yourself. (This is not really my forte. Just sharing what little I know.) You can unzip bootanimation.zip, edit the desc.txt file as needed, and then zip it up again with this command:
zip -rn .txt:.png bootanimation.zip desc.txt part0/*
Good luck
