[NAND] ZeamDroid v7.2.1 GB 2.3.7 Build [20130112]
Kernel: CoolrunnerII's experimental kernel 20130107 (boot_LCD_Power_off.img)
Launcher: Zeam Launcher v_3.1.10
After following different ROMs for my Xperia x1, I’ve decided to add my reviews to a minimalist ROM based on the current Xperia X1 CyanogenMod nand roms. So, all merits and credits ought to go to CyanogenMod Team, CoolrunnerII, jerrytan93 and zargloub.
Modifications included that I consider fundamental respect advances made in other roms:
- A minimalistic launcher designed for minimal memory usage, lightweight and stability (less battery consumption and more battery life).
- Battery icon shows % sync.
- Bootanimation changed.
- No overheating.
- USB-tether compatibility (with EasyTetherPro.apk).
- Market problems solved.
- Hardware keys problem caused by suspend process and screen locker solved.
- LED Notifications Controller (Light Flow Lite).
- GPS working in good conditions (GPS aids added).
- Wifi problem caused by market and suspend process solved (except WEP).
As usual, you'll be responsible of any damage because of installing it on your Xperia X1, sorry for the inconvenience this experimental project could cause to your cell.
The rom is so stable and reliable, and Zeam Launcher is the launcher which consumes less battery. This rom is in good conditions for daily using if you follow properly the rom installation instructions.
HOW TO:
a. Download the bundle: “ZeamDroid_v7.2.1.zip”. (NOTE: Please check the downloaded file name because some web browser rename them adding a space bar between the dot and the file extension, for example: "ZeamDroid_v7.2.1.^zip".)
b. Remove the SIM card till the installation will finish, set it always after second reboot. (Very Important).
c. Enabling to boot with SD card inserted: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24590744&postcount=337
d. Install the rom following the next instructions to have ready your phone to have a nand rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329379
e. Make a full wiped: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22586989&postcount=3
f. And install the rom with CWM recovery.
*01. Before first reboot (first time boot into Android):
a. Be patient, wait till the build will be fully installed.
b. Choose 'Default Activity' in the first boot but do not add any google account (leave the action for the second reboot). You may click on the left-top keypad pressbutton to change from landscape screen position to portrait.
c. Choose Zeam Launcher as default launcher (After second reboot you can choose RippleLock as default to have this screen locker working).
d. Do not enable wifi till second reboot, please.
e. Disable Market Updater (you can jump this step if you want the market to be updated to google play):
---> Open Terminal Emulator app and type the following command in the terminal emulator:
---> su *PRESS ENTER*
---> pm disable com.android.vending.updater *PRESS ENTER AGAIN*
f. Go to “Settings > Display > Brightness >" and adjust a different brightness of the screen (you can control it with Quicksettings status bar shortcut, I recommend it) . For better performance disable "auto-rotate screen" and "animations", too.
g. Go to “Settings > Location & Security >”, uncheck “Use GPS satellites”. GPS does work but it interferes on the Wifi, so do not use both together.
h. Go to "Settings > Call Settings >", uncheck "In-call touch UI".
i. Open 'Auto Mount' app and check 'Enable SD card Auto-Mounting' (This let you gain access to your mobile SD card from PC).
j. With "Light Flow Lite" app we can disable the annoying LED notifications but before making changes over notifications leds disable the app temporarily. On Settings, set "direct mode", enable "run it in foreground", create a shortcut on the status bar. Then, on Notifications, enable all notifications and disable all the notifications light. After, to apply the changes, enable the app and turn off the screen. (Note: the app has a sleep mode that disable all leds).
k. Reboot.
*02. After first reboot:
a. Now you can add a google account via wifi, but be sure you sync your emails, calendar, picasa and contacts before continuing with the rest.
b. Go to Zeam Launcher Preferences and restart the launcher. Now you will able to access to the market. When you open the market for the first time you get bombarded with the apps' updates because it's something automatic, it's not my fault, it is something about the old market version installed but it happens only once. So, it's good to go inside of the market and uncheck the updates for all apps.
c. Power off and insert now the SIM card.
d. Charge the battery till 100%, remove the battery stats via recovery and let the phone discharges the battery completely before plug it again to AC. Whereby your are going to have better battery control. It's only necessary once or when you replace the battery for a new one. The battery measurement are better after several charging and discharging, don't expect to have it working from the beginning.
e. That's all folks.
NOTES:
* The mobile signal are settled on UMTS-WCDMA by default (it saves battery), so if you had sim troubles because of your provider only support UMTS-HSDPA/HSUPA, you should modify the command line ro.ril.hsxpa=0 to ro.ril.hsxpa=2 on /system/build.prop file with a file explorer like Root Explorer or Astro or ES File Explorer (free).
* For this rom I've used a very old market version because the modern ones interfere with wifi, so if we want a wifi working we need an old market version. Do not update the market version because you will have wifi problems.
* If you want better battery performance, uninstall any Taskmanager you've already installed and use FastReboot, instead.
* GAPPS had already included in this build, so no need to flash the zip separately.
* If you don't follow the Elibl instructions to able booting with SD card inserted, you'll have to remove your SD card before booting each time when you'll reboot the device.
* Battery Monitor Widget Pro is the best option to know about your battery behavior.
* Let me remind you that it is important remove the SIM card before installing any rom and wait till everything is done to use the sim card.
* The battery works for a day and a half if you disable wifi and 3G, instead use 2G all day long (enough for whatsapp and gmail). Please, only use wifi when you need it but after disabling it for avoiding drain the battery.

Vending.updater and vending are different process.
Now, I really don't know how.

I'm not a noob,i know that vending != vending.updater..
It's simple to add init.d support, you can do it manually or by using Android kitchen(rename rootfs.ext3/img to boot.img)
The rom only include English and Spanish language. But inside the bundle you can find GoKeyboard and I've uploaded for Gokeyboard the next language package: LangPackage.zip
(Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Filipino, Finnish, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, HongKong, Hungarian, Indonesia, Italian, Japanese, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovanian, Spanish, Swedish, Taiwanese, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese)
New bundle.

--->Fixed folder force close.
--->Fixed wallpaper offset bug.
--->Apps grid horizontal paging spacing tweak.
--->Apps grid vertical scrolling tweak.
--->Dock items slightly scaled up.
--->Other minor fixes and improvements.

Well, try to use always a 2G data network (GPRS and Edge network is enough for whatsapp and gmail) and uninstall "Load Monitor". Disable Vending Updater and only sync gmail and whatsapp.
I did with this rom what I'm able. This rom is working with ext3 format without journaling, so it wastes less battery. At the same time, it is working with the lowest memory usage system because of Zeam Launcher and the framework I used.
So, it works smoothly and quickly as other ext3 roms.
I tried other ext3 roms just to compare the battery usage, and with this rom I save around a 30%.
Best.

EXT3 without journaling == EXT2
and ss far as i remember it has to be enabled kernel side,or requires edits in the way cwm formats partitions.

Not exactly, it is an ext3 working as ext2. So, with this rom you can choose between your kernels or turbo, it is not necessary format the SD partitions.

Makes no sense to use ext3 without journaling, because it becomes ext2 renamed, since the one of the few things updated from ext2 is journal.

I know about this things, thank you anyway. I've prepared a rom bundle in which people can choose between have ext3 with your kernel or use ext3 working as ext2 with turbo.
Ext3 let you work as ext2 but ext2 doesn't work as ext3. So, I've chosen ext3.
I prefer use ext3 as ext2 because is good for the SD, because saves a bit of battery and because gives me the option to choose your kernels or Turbo one. This way avoid people to format the SD in ext2 forever and ever.
This way is more versatile. That's all.
New instructions for dualboot.
New instructions for dualboot.
01. Run Windows Mobile.
02. Install "Gen.Y DualBOOT WVGA v1.0.6.0-Storage Card.cab" in Windows Mobile (it’s inside the bundle). You have to install it to "\Storage Card", not "\Windows", take care of that.
03. After it's installed, you have to edit the Windows Mobile Registry using "Total Commander" file explorer (inside the bundle). The registry location is at [\\\Plugin\Registry\HKCU\Software\Gen.Y\DualBOOT]. <--- This is located in the android mobile root but not in storage card root. (Note: If you don't manage with Total Commander, as well you can use "PHM Registry Editor" for editing the registry: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gen.Y\DualBOOT]).
04. Inside DualBOOT folder find a registry named "AndroidBootFolder", click it and write “npkboot” without quotations marks. I've left a list describing what the keys are for:
---> "AndroidBootFolder"= npkboot <----- boot haret.exe from npkboot folder: \Storage Card\npkboot\haret.exe
---> "AutoBootAndroid"= 1 <----- 1 if you want to autoboot Android or 0 for autobooting Windows
---> "AutoBootEnabled"= 1 <----- 1 for enabling autoboot or 0 for disabling it
---> "FastBootEnabled"= 1 <----- 1 for enabling fastboot or 0 for disabling it
---> "StorageBootMode"= 1 <----- 1 always, take care of this setting
05. Reboot the mobile and changes will take effect.
Best.

Well, in my case the battery works properly during 20 hours and the wifi is working too. I disable wifi and 3G and I use 2G because for whatsapp and gmail is enough. I only use wifi when I need it but after I always disable it for avoiding drain the battery.
Uninstall Load Monitor and any Task Killer and use Turbo Kernel. With Midnight Kernel sometimes the wifi doesn't work. Follow again the installation instructions. I'm sure that you have problems with the battery and with the wifi because of Midnight Kernel.
We only use Midnight kernel for install the rom in ext3 format, after we change "npkboot" folder for having Turbo Kernel.
We use a rom installed in ext3 format, but working without journaling when you use Turbo kernel for avoiding battery drain. Please follow the instruction carefully.
Best.

caliban2 said:
one nasty side-effect of this bug is that the system doesn't shut down at a certain low-level, it runs until the battery is completely depleted. (deep-discharge) that isn't good for this type of battery, reducing it's capacity (letting it age faster)

Fancy Widget I had included it in the build, you can use app backup method to get it, and you can uninstall it anytime at Setting > Application > Manage Application.
I could not test the battery accurately because my battery seems to be spoil.

thanks for your hard work jerry. the haret does not boot into android if the phone is being concurrently charged. the first boot into android takes quite a while, about 5 mins. graphics is brilliant though. once again, thanks!
Desire C people!
This stuff is good. Probably you heard about it already, now I tried it and seems to work very well, especially the memory management. Quite a sophisticated tool as far as me noob understand ugh, ugh! :cyclops:
So basically a collection of kernel and memory management tweaks, but has a lot of other like SD card tweaks and maintenance scripts which you can also schedule with SManager. And the download page has some other useful stuff like 3G turbocharger and battery calibrator.
In all it seems like a must have for DC users.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
Once you used it a bit it's pretty straight forward and explains everything in details when running the script, and you have the option to "unsupercharge", but have a nandroid backup at hand.
I used two guides, but the first is for Galaxy and the second is less detailed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1603953
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908505
And for Desire C, check the post below
Many thanks for nikhil16242 for recommending me this, many scripts are in his Customiser already, he would have integrated the whole V6 Supercharger, but Aroma doesn't like it. That would be awesome though!
All credits to zeppelinrox for these truly awesome scripts:good:
One wonders why android doesn't have some of them by default.

Because it works with the lowmemorykiller and letting it work the way it's meant to work.
Also, because of the rearrangement, it works the same on all roms!
The problem with using minfree tweakers like AMM or AKMO is that it doesn't work the same on all roms.
Secondary apps may be in slot 3 on some roms but in slot 5 in others!
That's why you hear people comment "I tried AKMO but it didn't do anything..."
Most likely it didn't do anything because the apps weren't sitting where they were expected to be.
So fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride!

NOTE: Delete all conflicting scripts from init.d folder, otherwise it will be laggy and annoying!
Conflicting scripts I have found so far:
- all the thunderbolt except miuiCMremount (V6 does most of these like sd card tweaks and zipalign anyway)
- mpengine and laserdroid (also from /system and /xbit)
If you don't know which scripts are from where, unzip nikhil16242's Customiser and check the folders.
Also do not install everything on one breath. Do it gradually (v6 - nullifier - engine flush and so on), test with a demanding game like Temple Run, so you can opt out any possible problems.
What you need:
All V6 scripts are here.
ScriptManager [download]
- If you have stock ROM:
Download Supercharger Starter Kit from the V6 scripts, on the page it's explained how to use it, couldn't be more simple:
Using SuperCharger Starter Kit (Prepares your ROM with the fixed su binary, zipalign binary, sqlite3 binary and busybox v1.19.4... and does NOT include the V6 SuperCharger scipt):
- Extract the zip to the root of the sdcard and it will all be in /sdcard/SuperCharger_Starter_Kit
- With Script Manager, just run StartMeUp.sh to install everything at once.
- Or, in terminal do: su, enter, sh /sdcard/Super*/Start*
Click to collapse
All the rest is the same as the following:
- If you are on custom ROM:
then busybox is already installed, so you don't need the starter kit.
I. SUPERCHARGER INITIAL SETUP
The script guides you through the process, so watch it closely. In the setup it automatically determines some optimal settings, but you can change them any time.
Step 1. Put the latest V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-UpdateX_XXX (X is the actual version number) on your SD card
Step 2. In SManager:
--- 1. make sure you have granted SuperUser access, and set browse in root (long press recent apps button > Menu > Advanced > Configuration > Browse as root), but if you used before it's already set
--- 2. open the script on your SD card, set the properties to: Favorites (star icon), Root (green android skull icon) and tap Run to execute the script installer.
Step 3. A bunch of text start to come up, watch it closely, it guides you through the installer. Home Locked in Memory? n (No) and press enter and another enter to continue to drivers console.
First it goes to Pit Stop to set Driver Options, where you will be asked for Scroll Speed but also various tweaks which can improve the performance. Go through each and decide if you want them or not (I enabled most of them in he script)
When asks Use Build.Prop? : n (No) to use local.prop - I chose this, it sounds safer.
Step 4. You need to patch services.jar. It can be done automatically or manually (however the script recommends manual, and when I did it automatically for the first time, it did not backup services.jar and could not unsupercharge, only by restoring it from the rom .zip) Don't worry, doing it manually couldn't be easier:
In the Driver's Console choose:
25. Jelly ISCream Parlor {Install services.jar}Choose manual mode, which will take you to the [RC9] ULTIMATIC RC6! [EXE]-=Ultimate Jar Power Tools=-With Maximum MultiTasking Mods! thread in your default browser, from which the essential instructions are the following:
--- 1. Connect your Android to your PC with Android Debugging ENABLED and Mass Storage DISABLED so your device has access to your sdcard. I just put it in Charge Only mode...
--- 2. Download the latest Ultimatic_Jar_Patcher_Tools_XXX_Windows.exe.zip to your PC - Windows exe is NOT zipped. Just remove the .zip extension!
--- 3. Start the exe and follow the instructions in the script. It will ask you which mode you want to use your Launcher in: Hard To Kill Launcher, Die-Hard Launcher or BulletProof Launcher. Choose Hard to Kill (HK), it is the best for our device.
You can add Maximum Multitasking mod as well, according to tests it works fine, but I did not install it in the beginning, then didn't bother
If follow the instructions in the script till the end, your services.jar should be patched, and the script will confirm this.
--- 4. On your phone in V6 script, you are still in the menu 25., right? Press x (exit), which takes you again to the Driver's Console. Choose: 32. SuperClean & ReStart! (ie. Wipe Dalvik Cache & Reboot)
Step 5. Press enter to return to Drivers Console. Pressing enter will automatically run Quick V6 Cust-OOMizer and will calculate optimum SuperMinFree values
Apply SuperMinFree Calculator Settings? : y (Yes) to apply calculated MinFree (low memory killer - lmk) values so you don’t need to choose, but you can change it after completing the initial setup and then running the script again in menu point:
10. Quick V6 Cust-OOMizer.Or if you type n (No), you can choose manually right away, doesn't make a difference. If it was set automatically, go to step 5. and come back later if you want to change it:
For a low memory device like ours, 512 HP recommended, these are the options in menu points:
5. UnLedded (Multitasking) {8,14,40,50,60, 75}
6. Ledded (Balanced) {8,14,55,70,85,100}
7. Super UL (Aggressive) {8,14,75,90,95,125} - it does 130-140MB
However the best setting recommended me by educated colleague nikhil16242 and I tried is:
10 15 25 45 80 100 (slot1 - slot2 and so on)
with this I always have 120-130MB free RAM and no lag, Temple Run is butter smooth Basically it kills processes below that level (but still prioritises them - really smart script), which means less multitasking, but two-three apps that I needed in multitask were working perfectly, I didn't notice any difference, but snappier phone.
Try whichever suits you best.
Step 6. Press Enter - this action will backup Re-SuperCharger files to SD Card, in case you want to restore your Supercharger settings.
Step 7. SuperClean & ReStart : y (Yes), this will wipe your dalvik-cache so bootup time will take longer this time.
Step 8. After restart, open SManager and:
--- 1. Go to /system/etc/init.d (you can bookmark it for later access)
--- 2. Tap on S99SuperCharger and set the following properties:
------ a. Favorites (star icon)
------ b. Root (green android skull icon)
------ c. Start on Boot (gear icon)
--- 3. Tap on Save, close Script Manager and Restart your phone
NOTE:
If you don’t follow step 8., you will get an error the next time you run the script and it will show you owner’s handbook on your default web browser.
II. OOMIFIER & LAUNCHER
If you patched services.jar and choose SuperMinFree values manually then you have this already. If not, then:
OOM Grouping Fixes will determine which are the more priority apps and keeps them alive better. The Launcher mode determines how easy it will be for the mem killer to kill the launcher in case of low memory. Works flippin good, I'm tellin ya
Step 9. After restart, open SManager and Run V6_SuperCharger_for_AndroidX_XXX script again (make sure you run it in root [skull icon] but not boot [gear icon])
--- 1. SuperCharger will run Test Drive, just wait for it to finish and then continue to the Drivers Console.
During the install it should set the optimal mode automatically, which was BulletProof for me, probably because I chose the aggressive memory kill (sounds convincing lol) mode. Anyway, this means the Launcher will never get killed, about which some say it's not recommended.
--- 2. So on the Drivers Console you can choose between these launcher modes in the menu points, in reverse order of toughness:[/INDENT]
11. OOM Grouping Fixes + Hard To Kill Launcher
12. OOM Grouping Fixes + Die-Hard Launcher
13. OOM Grouping Fixes + BulletProof LauncherEventually I changed it to Hard To Kill, but it's up to you.
--- 3. Hard To Kill? : y (Yes) to apply
Press Enter to go back to Drivers Console
III. NITROLAG NULLIFIER
It's an experimental feature, don't know what it does exactly, but I switched it on Everything is flawless for me since, so I say go for it.
Step 10. In the Drivers Console, select:
21. Nitro Lag Nullifier {Experimental}Enter (N)ullify, (U)n-Nullify, E(X)it: N (Nullify) to apply Nitro Lag Nullifier
After applying Nitro Lag Nullifier, press enter to go back to Drivers Console.
IV. 2 in 1 ENGINE FLUSH
It flushes the RAM cache so the phone doesn't get sluggish after days of usage.
The 2 Modes are: -=Fast Engine Flush=- for instant flush and -=Engine Flush-O-Matic=- for automation.
Step 11. In the Drivers Console, select:
17. Engine Flush-O-Matic {ReCoupe RAM Booster}Continue and drop all file system caches? : y (Yes) to clear system cache on RAM
It will ask you (gives you 20 s to decide lol) if you want to automate it, so you don't need to schedule it in SManager. If yes, you set an interval between 1-24, which counts as hours, so it determines how frequently flushes the RAM cache. Some people set it for every hour, so why not, I did that too. Hmmm that was good
After Engine Flush, press enter to go back to Drivers Console.
V. SUPERCLEAN AND RESTART
Wipes dalvik and reboots the phone, you need that before you start to using it.
Step 12. In the Drivers Console, select:
30. SuperClean & ReStart {Wipe Dalvik & Reboot}Do you want to SuperClean & ReStart now? : y (Yes)
VI. VERIFY SUPERCHARGER STATUS
Step 13. After restart, open SManager and run V6 SuperCharger again. You should see Supercharger Level: 100%, then you are good to go.
As the script rolls it indicates your settings so you know what is set and what's not. You can check out the other menu points, and number:
27. Owner's Guide {Open !SuperCharger.html}This opens the... Owners Guide! ...in the default browser, you can wise yourself up about the different options.
VII. KICKASS KERNELISER
Downolad the script and launch it the same way as V6. Look at the text, wisen up and choose KickAss (k).
It will place S98KickAssKerneliser script in init.d, skull it and gear it, and reboot the phone.
TIPS & TROUBLESHOOTING
If you are only 75% supercharged, that probably means MinFree (the mem killer) settings doesn't stick (so you see you have the usual low amount of free RAM). Check the S99Supercharger script in SManager if it has the root and boot privileges (In /system/etc/init.d or Long pressing recent apps button > Menu > Scripts), set them again if they were not and reboot the phone. If it's not set again, open Owner's Guide to figure out what's next, but if you followed the steps properly, you should be fine.
Check the note in the beginning of the post for deleting conflicting scripts!
All the scripts and backups are in two places:
1. on SD card /V6_SuperCharger folder
2. /data/V6_SuperCharger
and the logs and manuals under them.
When you run a script in SuperCharger, it places a separate one in the folders, so you can make widgets with SManager for fast access:
- Long press home screen, select SManager from widgets, locate the SuperCharger folder and select the script you want to have at hand.
- For example for quick change between MinFree modes, the scripts will be in V6SuperCharger/PowerShift_Scripts (you need to run them in SuperCharger first in order to be created separately, or if you installed the additional V6 scripts (or something like that) in nikhil16242's Customiser before, they will be in init.d already).
You'll know you have chosen a suitable MinFree mode if if you play Temple Run with no lags at all shaboooooom!!!!
See, wasn't too hard and you are SuperCharged now.
Enjoy it like a Boss!
Kudos to CarlDeanCatabay and Androidmarketuser for the guides that helped me and are in the OP.
And most of all to zeppelinrox for V6 SuperCharger :good:
Started reading looks great but by ekk I'm finding it hard to get my old head round some of it. Usually when I'm like this I have to read read read till it starts making sense .So will prolly take me a bit of time.
Re: [Script][TWEAKS] V6 Supercharger
This script is really awesome once you get everything done properly, just takes a while to read the entire OP though .
Ram management is another very essential thing to be done on a low ram device like ours.Stock ram management seems to be poor imo so I use this and the results are truely amazing .

And on the download page has some other useful stuff like 3G turbocharger and battery calibrator.
In all it seems like a must have for DC users.

Once you used it a bit it's pretty straight forward and explains everything in details when running the script, and you have the option to "unsupercharge", but have a nandroid backup at hand.
I used this detailed guide, but it's for Galaxy so use your brain

Here's is an other one, just in case, but less detailed:

Many thanks for nikhil16242 for recommending me this, many scripts are in his Customiser already, he would have integrated the whole V6 Supercharger, but Aroma doesn't like it. That would be awesome though!
All credits to zeppelinrox for these truly awesome scripts:good:
One wonders why android doesn't have some of them by default.

guide updated
Hey guys, well actually i have an issue while i'm trying to run the v6 supercharger. It succesfully passes the drive test but it gets stuck at the next step. it throws me a lot of lines like 'find system/lost+found/ Too many open files' and i can't get rid of it, please help
this guide is quite old now, supercharger has been updated since numerous times. if you have a nandroid backup restore it, if not then ask zeppelinrox in his original thread. also supercharger does automatic backup before you apply the settings, which can be restored from the menu if something goes wrong, try it.
HELP
I've got a problem with my Nook Color (BNRV200)
Tired of searching for a thread that tells you what to do when you need to install, fix a problem, need a recovery, etc. I have compiled a number of links to various threads by developers and others that answer questions that get asked a lot. This post is intended to give a site that will make finding these answers easier than a regular search. It will have a list of threads and posts with various helps, have a topical list of problems and sites which address those topics, links to common sites and app needed to get what both Noob and seasoned members need to work with and on Nook Colors.
You choose to make changes, flash ROMs, etc. it is your choice. You assume all responsibility for what ever happens. I list these links because I know they have helped and work for me as well as many others. If you need help with a particular problem addressed in these links, ask on those threads.
If you use information in any of these links make sure to click on the thanks button both here and in those links. If you want to write a thank you note also, that to is fine, but does not add to the "Thanks" counter. These people have worked hard for free that we can have greater enjoyment and fun with our tablets. Most get nothing for their time and effort so "thanking them" is their greatest return and the least the rest of us can do in appreciation. Credit and kudos are given by Authors Names in Post #2

Faster bootup
To get faster bootup you can disable the boot animation and save about 30 seconds from boot up time by adding "debug.sf.nobootanimation=1" to the build property file in the /system folder. This is a pain though if you keep up with the nightlies regularly like I do. I got tired of editing the file for every update or reversion if there was a problem with the newer nightly. So I created a script that goes into the Userinit.d folder that checks build.prop on every boot and adds the line if needed without any further intervention. The first boot after installing a new nightly will have the boot animation but no more till the next install when the process will repeat all automatically. Download the AutoNoBootAnimationScript.zip in attached files below, unzip, follow the included instructions and enjoy.

Installing new CM11 and latest Gapps and no Google Play. Problem /system is too small.
The Prefered way to fresh install latest nightlies: If you do a conventional (no repartition) install using the smaller 01/05 Gapps and install the other Goople apps through Google play. They install into the /data directory instead of the /system. You can do this also with Gmail, Sound search (ears), Google TTS and Hangouts.
Alternate experimental adventurous way. There are two .zips available that will repartition your Nook and give you more /system space and /Data space.

Customize Rom or Apps without being a developer - Xposed Framework
Customize Rom or Apps without being a developer - Xposed Framework
From Rovo89's thread
In this thread, I'm presenting a framework which gives you the possibility to modify your ROM - without modifying any APK (developers) or flashing (users)!
Click to collapse
Get Xposed Framework and install instructions Click on "click to show content" box
For the framework:
Download the Xposed Installer APK and install it
Launch the Xposed Installer, go to the "Framework" section and click on "Install/Update"
Reboot
Done!l
You can verify this by starting the Xposed Installer again. If app_process jumped back to an older version (or none at all), you probably have a ROM with S-On or similar, which reverts any changes to /system after a reboot. Then you can try to flash this file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=2308
For any modules you want to install:
Download <module>.apk and install it
Launch the Xposed Installer and go to the "Modules" section (you will also get there if you click on the notification warning you that the module is not enabled yet)
Enable the module by checking the checkbox
Reboot
Done!
For information & help with Xposed Framework go to Rovo89's thread.
Once you have installed the Xposed Framework you can get many of the modules under the Download tab in the framework app.
There are also a large number of modules at this thread made for module developers to list their work. If the Modules indicate they are made for a specific phone or tablet they may not work on others. If you try and it does not do what it says it will do, contact the module maker, not rovo89, unless it is his module, ie: "Make Play store show all apps" or just un-install the module. No guarantees they will help. Some only have one tablet and only develop for what they have.
A Short list of some of the things you can do using Xposed Framework and modules.
These do all work with CM11 current nightlies and CM 10.2 last nightly, 1/19/14
For more info on Modules listed install Xposed Framework and click on Download tab
Change color of status bar / notification bar. Xposed Framework - X Blast tools. Plus lot more. By femblack.
Network Speed Indicator - by fatminmin. With 123 below the up down speed can be shown in two readable rows. ** This will not work with CM10.2 Stable with the 3.0.8 Kernel or the updated hack fix kernel
Play Store link in app info - by qwerty12 - Does what the title says
App settings - by Tungstwenty & Rovo89 - What it is: This is an Xposed module that allows changing generic settings on a per-app basis. "Generic settings" means settings that are global to all applications, such as: perceived DPI, rotation behavior, fullscreen, etc..
Play Store Fixes - Rovo89 - Make play store show all apps
Enable SwiftKey predictions in more places - by qwerty12 - Email address website and filter list fields.
123 Dimension Editor. - by Hamzahrmalik - Change various UI dimensions: Status bar height, Navigation bar height and others. I doubled the height of my status bar and shrunk my navigation bar.
Cool Tool: - by Deviant Studio Software - Monitor various system info in floating window or in Status Bar. I have time, day, date, Free Memory and Battery Temp in two rows of my status bar.
Status bar volume. - by Niko001 - Move the volume bar over the status bar.
I do like things my way. That is what Android is noted for.
This Module "Workaround for Netflix on CM10/CM10.1" works on most any CM10 thru 10.2 Rom.
From Kaepernick's post.
"Well, thanks to Entropy512's help, I was able to modify his Xposed hack to work on CM10 (based on Android 4.1) and CM10.1 (based on Android 4.2) for the Incredible. Using the newest Netflix app and it's working well without issue.

Run CM10 & 11 smoother and get more free memory
Tips to help CM10 and CM11 run smoother, less laggy, etc.,
and have more free memory on your Nook Color
and maybe even a little longer battery life.
These are a collection of tips that have been collected from various post in XDA, personal sharing with others, and as a result of my own desire to try to improve things where I can. I have tried everything listed here and each adds a little to smoothness(s), free memory(f) or battery(b) life. My CM11 flashed Nook runs quite smoothly, with free memory at desktop running from 110 to 160 Mb and six to eight hours of battery life depending on type of constant use. This is on a nearly three year old tablet. I have partitions set to 5Gb data and 1Gb media. All apps are in the tablet. I also have a 32Gb Sdcard. I also have over 220 apps including system apps. I use my tablet from 6-8 hours or more a day.
Unless noted all apps mentioned are available through Google Play. I recommend the apps, etc., because they work for me. I get nothing out of it except the joy of helping others. Like everything try at your own risk. This includes app I have on my Nooks. If you have other programs you can try adjusting them as I have and see how it helps, or not. Trying and finding out what does and doesn't work is half the fun.
Free and simple
On all CM10 and CM11: (s) Try lowering your maximum clock speed to 1000, or even 800mhz in System, Performance Processor, Maximum CPU frequency. Many have reported improved smoothness at slower speeds. Faster can run ahead of itself and actually make things jittery. Make sure to check Set on boot to retain settings.
CM11: Use 5/17+ nightly.
On all: System Settings ( some may only apply to CM10 or 11 List:
Wifi, advanced,Uncheck Network Notification (b)
Keep Wifi on during Sleep, only when plugged in (b)
Scanning always available, uncheck (b)
Wifi Optimization, checked (b)Sound,Set quiet hours (your sleep time)(b)
Touch sounds, screen lock sound, volume adjustment sound and Charging Sounds, Enable, all unchecked (b)DisplaySleep (set time for max time you want screen to stay on before going to sleep, shorter time saves more battery)(b)Developer Options,Kill app back button, checked, (Allows you to kill kill app by long pressing back button)(b)Performance,CPU governor, (Lower on list will give faster response but use more battery, Default is "ondemand". Try the others and stick with what suits you the best.) Make sure to check Set on boot to retain settings. If you haven't activated the "Developer Options list":In "About Tablet, Build Number, tap ten times till it states "Developer Options turn on."
AdFree: (b) Available on Slideme.com Stops adds in browsers and most all App with add banners. Saves time by not downloading the adds.
On All: ((f,b) Freeze / Disable unused (unusable) apps in System.(b,s,f)
Don't delete them since any ROM update you install will replace them, freezing / disabling them will last through an update. The stock App manager allows you to disable most of these. Titanium Backup and Rom Toolbox Pro can freeze more but do cost, though I think they are well worth the price for what they deliver. There are some free "App freezer" programs available. I've only tried Chef's App Freezer, check the ratings and comments.Android Keyboard (ASOP) - I use Swiftkey (lite is available)
Camera - (No camera in Nook, no need of file)
Com.android.smspush. No phone text.
Gmail and / or Email and Email Services (if you use another E-mail client, ie:K9)
File Manager ( if you uses another ie Root Exporer (Speedsoft) or Root Browser (Jrummy))
Google search - Definately slo-o-ows things down
Key Chain - if you don't use lock screen
Mobile Data and Mobile Network Configuration - No phone, no need
One time Init - only used on first install once
Picasa uploader - If you don't use Picasa
Print Spooler - If you don't use it.
Sound Recorder - No Microphone, no need
Sound Search for Google Play - If you don't use it
Talk back - If you don't use or need it.
Trebuchet - If you use another Launcher.
Voice+ - No Microphone or phone, no need.
If you use a different clock than stock, calendar etc you can freeze / disable the stock version. Example: I use Dejaoffice to link with Outlook on my PC so I freeze Calendar storage, calendar, and calendar sync.
Change app permissions: (f,b) (for apps that run at startup and then stay in memory even when you not running them.)
I use App settings, it requires Xposed Framework to run but once set up does it's thing in startup, changes permissions, and closes. To get the Xposed Framework go here.
The most common causes of this problem are the following permissions: receive boot completed, vibrate, and wake lock. Not all apps can have these turned of. App settings has the ability to launch the program from is menu. Try turning off a permission, save, menu (launch). If it works great, if not go back and turn that permission back on.
The following is a list of Apps I changed permissions on and which permissions I disabled to keep them from persisting / sticking in memory:Advanced Task Manager: receive boot completed, and wake lock.
Alarm Clock Extreme: read phone state, receive boot completed, vibrate, and wake lock.
BusyBox Installer: receive boot completed, and wake lock.
CPU Master Pro: receive boot completed.
Crackle: receive boot completed, vibrate.
DejaOffice: vibrate.
Elixer: vibrate, and wake lock.
Evernote: receive boot completed, and wake lock.
Google Play Services: receive boot completed, and wake lock.
Kyo-Tux Aeon HD: vibrate.
News and Weather: receive boot completed, and wake lock.
Nook: receive boot completed, vibrate, and wake lock.
Pandora: receive boot completed.
RoboForm: receive boot completed
ROM Manager: receive boot completed, and wake lock.
The Weather Channel: receive boot completed, vibrate.
Titanium Backup: receive boot completed, vibrate.
Winamp: vibrate.
YouTube: receive boot completed, vibrate.
Advanced Task Manager: (b,f,s) Put the widget in dock, set your ignore list in app. One press and all unwanted apps go bye-bye.
My Ignore List:
Adfree, Elixer Widget, Alarm Clock Extreme, K-9 mail, Nova Launcher, Swiftkey, Speaker Boost, Pie Pro, Earthquakes, AFWall+, Clipper+, DejaOffice, Tasker, 360 Security.
Not so Simple but worth the time, still free
Replace DSPManager with Speaker Boost: (f,b) Get more volume and save EMMC memory.(DSPManager 18Mg - Speaker Boost 1.7 Mg=16.3Mg saved) Get more info here.
Replace Trebuchet with Nova Launcher: (s) does more, has more adjustments. (Does take more memory but pays back in smoothness)
LagFix (fstrim) Free. (s) Use two to three times a week. (s,b)
Use Elixer widget to replace other widgets: (f,b) and save Memory 45 meg (for Battery widget, Wifi state and stats widget, free memory and CPU stats) - 12 Meg for Elixer = 33 Emmc memory saved.
Rom toolbox lite: Settings: (f,b,s) (some of these may need Pro)
Under performance.Settings, Main Preferences, Boot Delay, 40 seconds.
Task Manager, Tap on Task Manager on top left of screen. You can change the Minfree memory settings, with CM10 I found strict to work the best. So far with CM 11 custom settings of 30 FA, 40 VA, 65 SS, 75 HA, 90 CP, and 100 EA setting works well.) I set them then save them into custom settings). Make sure to update to 5/17 nightly.
Start up killer, add Elixer, Google play services, The Weather Channel, and YouTube. (keep them out of active (service) memory or minimize there active size.)
Ignore List. 360 security (or your antivirus app), AdFree, AFWall+, Android system, Clipper+, Earthquakes, Elixer Widget, K-9 Mail, Mobile Data, Nova Launcher, Pie Pro, Rom Toolbox Pro, Speaker Boost, System UI, Tasker.SD Boost. You can change the size of the cache to both internal and external SDcard. I find with my class 4 Sandisk SDcard a setting of 4096KB works best. A benchmark is available to test your settings. If you have a faster card ie: Class 10 you can try larger cache sizes and save as custom.
Not Free but worth it (IMHO)
Upgrade to Nova launcher Prime:
In Nova Settings: (s)
Look and Feel, Scroll and Animation speeds (faster than light) (s)
New Apps - check Auto Add Short cuts, (make sure to turn off auto add in Google Play.)
Labs - Check the following, Big Grid size options, Widget Image Async List, Widget Image Cache, Restore Widgets Faster. (s)
Upgrade to Rom Toolbox Pro, LagFix (fstrim) Premium (scheduling trims): Get more bells and whistles and help support the developers.
Upgrade to 32 or 64Gb Class 10 SD card - Buy a 32Gb Class 10 SD card, about $20.00 + ship, prepare as usual and you'll cut your access time to the SD card buy about half. I can do a 2Gb recovery backup in about 5 and 1/2 min. With my Class 4 it takes just shy of 11 minutes.
More Memory Buy a Sandisk 64 Gb Class 10 Micro SD card, about 40.00 + ship, and partition the whole card as one Primary partition, format as FAT32, Sectors/ cluster 32 (16384 bytes) using "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" available for free here. I have donated to MiniTool since I use it for all kinds of partitioning,(resizing, moving, copy, etc.), on PC's and all kinds of flash memory. I started with the partition set to 30,451.33, copied my data from my 32G sdcard. It worked great and with SD boost set to 4096 all SD access was noticeably faster. So I used Partition Wizard to resize the card to the full capacity, the program changed the size and copied all the files in about 20 minutes. Plugged it into the Nook Color and went from 17 GB free to 47 Gb Free. It is a bit slower than the 32Gb & and the bootloader doesn't list CWM or TWRP recovery kernel or ram on the SD, but oh the storage. I can put over 40, 2 hr AVI or MPEG movies on the card and still have better than 20Gb free.
If you have other Apps, tricks, tweaks that you have tried and found to help. Please reply and I will try them out and list them if they do add to the smoother, longer, freer Nook.
Netflix on CM11 on SD
Good source of info. Thanks! Confirming that latest Netflix is working on SD. See that thread
If you use Speaker Boost try this to save memory.
Ever since CM7 and Nook Color Tweaks, in has been necessary to find a way to boost the sound output of our little wonder tablet. I tried several an ended up using Speaker Boost. I have found that I no longer need to use DSPmanager. The problem is that freezing or disabling the app doesn't keep it from installing in memory and using 18meg of precious RAM. Renaming the file with.bak extension or deleting it works after a reboot but, if you like to keep up with the nightlies like I do it is re-installed with every update. It gets to be a pain using a file manager to do this every day. So let your Nook do the repetitive work.
So I have worked up three quick and easy ways to rename the file. The best and easiest is the last.
1. Is a Tasker task. This was the first one I used and I setup a widget so I. Can rename with one tap. The.xml file can be imported as a task into Tasker.
2. Is an apk made from the Tasker task. It works the same way just doesn't need Tasker to work.
3. A script file that can run at every boot, check if DSPManager.apk exists, and rename it. This eliminates having to rename it and reboot after every ROM update as it is renamed before the app is loaded. It is only 279 bytes and is the only file that has to remain to work. In the 90RnamDSP scripts.zip below are three files. One that goes into userinit.d folder, an instruction.txt file and an installation script that sets everything in place just by running it.
I want to thank LeapinLar for the help he gave debugging the rename script. This was my first script and had to get everything in proper order and get the syntax correct. What I learned help me build and debug the installation script in a few hours.
Download, unzip, import, install, etc, and enjoy.
Thanks, nice job

NEW EASY INSTALLER, RECOVERY ZIP
Total overhaul of code.
*HELP WANTED, PM FOR RELEVANT DETAILS*
This software package was originally just made for my personal use to rectify the issue of my phone not entering deep sleep when idle and me not having access to a charger for the majority of the day while also improving multitasking because being my phone is also my build environment/office environment, I am frequently jumping around various apps that I'd prefer to keep open.
Things this package accomplishes on your phone (very simple and brief summary):
*Forces entry into deep sleep as soon as the screen is off (if enabled, on by default). It also has audio detection so you can listen to music with the screen off without unwanted deep sleep entry.
*Improves multitasking, no more apps having to reload/redraw when you switch back to them.
*Automatic odexing of all apps, including new installs (if enabled, pre-lollipop ROM's).
*Easy management of swap.
*CPU management. You can set your own values to be locked (no other app can change them) or let its device manager automatically set CPU frequencies and the governor you specify.
*Dynamic Max CPU Freq: When enabled (on by default) it will automatically scale the max CPU frequency value depending on the CPU load. This can help with governors that favor the high end of the frequency table too much by allowing you to save battery but have the CPU power available when needed, without having to adjust anything manually whenever you go from doing something processor demanding to having your phone sit idle.
*Fixes issues with several kernels where the touch screen is unresponsive after waking the device. No more inconvenient force reboots.
*Enables all idle and suspend states available (they are disabled by default quite often) and can help get your device into the lower C-States.
*Fixes broken links to firmware files caused by buggy init scripts on some ROM's.
New/Other features:
*New recovery flashable installer
*Force system wide GPU rendering and faster framerate.
*Fixes Dt2w and Sw2w lock screen freeze bug.
*Now compatible with KSM.
*Faster app loading and responsiveness. Key android services are given priority status for I/O and CPU resources.
*Multitask over 20+ apps simultaneously without any redraws and low-latency app switching (provided you have the swap space)
Tip: I use the large amount of unused space on /system to increase the size of that MaxOpt managed swapfile.
*Fixed the crash on boot issue between MaxOpt and some kernels.
Default MaxOpt config:
•Swap on, default MaxOpt generated swapfile size is 64 MB, with one made on /data, one on /cache, and one on /system if mounted rw.
•Auto-odexing off.
•Hotplugging compatibility on.
•User CPU settings off, auto-device manager on.
•Deep Sleep immediately on screen off enabled.
•KSM off (you must have a kernel that supports it to enable this option and have it work).
•Kernel settings on.
•Everything is forced to be drawn by the GPU.
All of the above listed features are user optional/tuneable.
For those who wish to only use MaxOpt for fixing the lock screen freeze bug associated with some kernels/DT2W/S2W use the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3061589
If you would like to just use individual components or adjust program settings from a terminal app, here is an example usage and description of their individual functions as well as other useful documentation (VERY OLD DOC, NEEDS LOTS OF UPDATES):https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_hgNZE_j5sVbEN4ZUtkS2p0bW8/edit?usp=docslist_api
Terminal Emulator is what I would recommend for use with managing MaxOpts' settings.
System Requirements (not entirely sure due to lack of public testing):
Busybox
A terminal app
A kernel that can best be utilized by these programs.
Please make a nandroid backup before using.
And here is the MaxOpt installer ( R2 1.0.6 ):
* https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_hgNZE_j5sVaGdxV0FfODdxbVU/view?usp=docslist_api
Changelog:
R2 v1.0.6- Adjustments to write buffering and multitasking memory performance.
R2 v1.0.5a- Fixed a bug present in both this project and MaxLife where data wasn't validated thoroughly enough before using it.
R2 v1.0.5- Added a new completely experimental new user tuneable (on/off, default off) that changes runtime memory allocation values. Only activate it if you have a large amount of swap.
R2 v1.0.0- Totally rebuilt the project, installable with a recovery flashable zip now, kernel image installer is no longer compatible and is scrapped.
For those still getting crashes:
The issue still appears to be related to the device radio when it happens, so, after a crash could you please force reboot your device and try to disable mobile data when it boots before it crashes again and please post a copy of /proc/last_kmesg. Thank you.

Wow, this looks amazing. Very nice work.
I Will be playing with this for the next few days.

Damn this looks complicated as hell haha. Good job OP
Very nice job
Thank you very much everyone. Glad for the positive feedback, this is my first public software release. I daylight in a machine shop, so this was far from my field of expertise and a long learning experience for me
I tried it on faux kernel 014m.
But my phone bootlooped
I have faux clock app.
Is it causing the problem?
Thanks
One possible problem could be the boot image it made was over 10 MB depending on the size of the input one. If that wasn't the issue, did you disable signature checking? Also this is currently not ART compatible. It is also important that you run the installer from a partition that supports octal permissions, so the emulated sdcard is a no go.
Edit: it may be worth trying disabling the faux clock app too. I don't have that kernel or app to try for myself but this mod does affect CPU settings so it could be a conflict. If none of those work, I may have to look into updating my installer with an alternate method for incompatible kernels.

I followed steps as below:
I put that 2 files in the data partition.
Then boot.img of faux.
I set permission 755 for both files and boot.img
Then from terminal I executed the command.
I got new_image.img
I repack the zip using this new boot image and flashed it in recovery.
Then I reboot.
Phone booted and stuck on "optimizing apps 1 of 98"
Then again same.
Also I had 700mb of free memory when I tried this.
When I again booted using faux kernel I had 450mb of free memory.
Can you guess what's going wrong?
Did you disable APK signature checking?

Sorry I forgot that.
Where exactly should I put those 2 files.
Was I doing right to put them in data partition?
And after first boot can I enable signature verification?
Do I need to disable it before every boot?
Unfortunately for now it needs to be off whenever an app is upgraded or added, but can be enabled after the reboot that that happens on, and yeah, /data works
Even after disabling signature verification it doesn't work on faux boot.img
Am I doing right?
For whatever reason it sounds like the dexy binary isn't playing well with your phone, I'll make a new installer with the option of disabling it for incompatible setups for the time being, but the other ones should still work. I'll keep ya posted.
My rom is stock 4.4.4
I will try again with disabled optimization.

I would say yeah, try it with it and see if it makes a difference
Also did you try the new build with a clean restore? (Before any of the failed install attempts) Try not wiping the cache/dalvik-cache after install and flash.
I tried again but this time booted upto lock screen and rebooted.
I tried with new build.
after placing ./maxopt boot.img appears running with dexy enabled.
That means it's already working? If yes, have to do anything else?
Every time you turn the meter will have to repeat the procedure?
Sorry my bad english
Just got this device and here are some tweaks for the stock miui 11 rom.

When not to use Battery saver
In general saving energy when you switch of the screen is a good idea.
Unless you have apps that need to run all the time. Like Navigation apps.
So if you have problems with Navigation/gps apps that behave odd do this:
Long click on the app icon > App info > Battery saving > switch from "Battery saving" to None.
Disable/Uninstall a package
When you have adb access to the Note 8 you can disable packages. Well uninstall.
- adb shell
- pm list packages -s -f -e | sort -> gives you sorted enabled system package names
- pm uninstal --user 0 <packagename>
If you need the package back you can use: adb shell pm install-existing <packagename>
(if you have root better use: pm disable <packagename>, easier to enable again)
List only disabled (system) packages: pm list packages -s -f -d | sort
Battery saving tips
Switch off in Settings > Battery > cog wheel top right > Scenario's > Detect sleep (is high wakelock on android system)
Switch off MIUI optimization in developer settings
Switch off Notifications for Xiaomi Service Framework and Xiaomi Service Framework Keeper
Assisted GPS
Don't know if this makes a big difference but GPS indoors is really fast now.
Use Quickshortcutmaker and search for GPS. In settings you find A-GPS-settings. Click it and click Try.

TWRP and modifying /system issues on MIUI 11 (Android 9 system-as-root)
After installing TWRP and you want to change files in TWRP mode on /system_root/system it will not work.
You need to install MAGISK and then use SU to modify the system. (TWRP/MAGISK instructions: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...de-unlocking-bootloader-twrp-rooting-t4031831)
Some mods for rooted ginkgo (with Magisk)
Before overwrite PLEASE make copy of original file FIRST (like build.prop.ORG)
- /system/build.prop (see last part in build.prop that was added, if you have other MIUI version add only the that last part)
- /system/etc/device-features/ginkgo.xml (expose some other features on the MIUI ROM)
- /data/adb/service.d/tweakradje-ginkgo.sh (my script to "correct" some cpu/linux settings, also loads my /system/etc/sysclt.conf)
- /system/etc/sysclt.conf (some linux/kernel improvements)
How to install from a pc:
Open DOS/CMD in the folder where the downloaded files are, unzip the zip files
Copy the files to the "/sdcard": adb push <file> /sdcard/
adb.exe shell
su
stop
mount -o rw,remount / (that is system partition)
mount -o rw,remount /vendor (that is vendor partition)
cd /system
cp -p build.prop build.prop.ORG (one time to make copy of original file)
cp /sdcard/build.prop . (permissions should be ok)
....etc...
sync
reboot
See attachements for files
Use fingerprint button for sleep
My fingerprint sensor is a fpc1020. Now I can reassign a tap on the fp sensor to any function.
Edit the file /system/usr/keylayout/uinput-fpc.kl (remember I have fpc sensor)
#key 96 DPAD_CENTER
key 96 SLEEP
#key 96 CAMERA
Wifi performance testing
Wifi performance is pretty avarage. When BT is switched on it is getting worse.
The wcn3990 Wifi/BT combo chip isn't that bad. Must be driver (firmware) issue or configuration issue.
I have attached /vendor./etc/wifi/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini file with some mods. Looks like it is little better.
Maybe you can give feedback?

settings put global connectivity_metrics_buffer_size 20000 #2000 max=10*2000
settings put system bluetooth_discoverability 1 # 2=always 1=only connect 0=off, improve wifi!
settings put system bluetooth_discoverable_timeout 60 #after 60s wifi is fast!
cmd wifi get-poll-rssi-interval-msecs
>>> WifiStateMachine.mPollRssiIntervalMsecs = 3000
cmd wifi get-ipreach-disconnect
>>> IPREACH_DISCONNECT state is true
cmd wifi set-ipreach-disconnect disabled
cmd wifi get-ipreach-disconnect
>>> IPREACH_DISCONNECT state is false
And add this before END to the /vendor/etc/wifi/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini file:
Code:
gEnableDebugLog=0
gLinkSpeedRssiHigh=-60
gLinkSpeedRssiMed=-70
gLinkSpeedRssiLow=-82
gEnableFatalEvent=0
5g_rssi_boost_threshold=-65
5g_rssi_boost_factor=2
5g_max_rssi_boost=20
gSetAntennaIsolation=15
enableBTChainSeparation=1
gSetBTCMode=1
HQ Hifi Headphone mod
Copy xml files over existing /vendor/etc/ files. Make copy of original first. Then reboot.
audio_platform_info_intcodec.xml
mixer_paths_idp.xml
For MiSound you maybe need to set setprop ro.audio.hifi true (or in /vendor/build.prop:ro.audio.hifi=true)
Suggestions are welcome! Please post below.
Cheers
my phone is rooted (magisk)
how to remove "updater" "find device" "fingerprint" "security" and "Gapps" without bootloop ?

Change Font
Goto Settings > Themes > More
Type the word Font in the Search box
In the Results you see Fonts > click More
Download and Apply the font. Reboot needed
Manage your Fonts: Use QuickShortcutMaker > Expand Themes > Click FontsettingsActivity > Try
Click to collapse
Easier way:
Change Region into India
Force Stop Themes app
Open Themes app
There will be new categories like Fonts and Ringtones. When finish and reboot, change back to Region of choice
This trick still works since MIUI 4
Useful topic, particularly fot those that are on stock rom.

Does this hold only with India or with other regions, too ?

The majority of other regions I've tried do not allow the font selection.
It's not a problem of themes choice...

yes , i know about those 2 apps
but the idea of runing an app to prevent an app from runing is the same for me ^^
(you may have a bootloop if you force stop/freez the exposed module)
i gave up on miui rom last week, i installed a custom rom and until now it's waaay better than miui in ram managment and battery life ...

Indeed. Switching to crDroid 6.8 and test Inception 6.1 with it.
Battery life is crap on MIUI.

crDroid is good but has bad ram managment
(it also have a phone bug ,when you dial a number , you can't find it in recent calls until you relaunch the app)
i'm using "AospExtended-v7.3"
everything is working and ram usage is :
when i stop the background apps it takes 1.5gb or less (i have 6gb ram)
(the ram usage is done with gravitybox)
Tried crDroid 6.8 for 2 days but not satisfied. Battery life not so good, and wifi was terrible.
Now I'm back on MIUI 11 (TWRP backup).

I will install a custom rom also soon, the Miui rom is full of bug issue sending and receiving data in BT the internet sharing option via WIFI work only the that placed in the 2nd SIM slot, the Launcher is poor, can't copy paste a password and others things...
I'm testing LuisROM crDroid 6.8 now. Looks good so far.
Only MIUI Camera is not having good portrait mode (bokeh).
Can be downloaded from his site: http://luis-builds.de/downloads/lineageos/cr/Xiaomi_Redmi_Note_8-8T_(ginkgo-willow)/
Kudos to Frank
EDIT: Why does Wifi quits when connection speed is below 7 mbs? X appears in Wifi taskbar icon (not disconnected!) and mobile data takes over. What setting is that? Anyone? Something I can set in GLOBAL?
This doesn't help:
settings put global wifi_watchdog_on 0
settings put global wifi_watchdog_poor_network_test_enabled 0
settings put global network_avoid_bad_wifi 0
Maybe it has something to do with wifi_data_stall_min_tx_bad or wifi_link_probing_enabled
https://gerrit.pixysos.com/plugins/...5dc1/core/java/android/provider/Settings.java
Switching back to MIUI 11.0.9.0 again.
thanks
Now testing MIUI 12 (upgrated today from miui 11.0.9.0 Global to MiuiMix 12 ROM (MMX_2.2.0_ginkgo_20.8.13_v12-10_20200813)
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=8889791610682914715
So far so good. But Wifi had trouble (like custom Android 10 ROMS)
Maybe found solution for wifi disconnect (from Android 9 and up). Testing for one day now and looks promissing.
1) add this line before END to /vendor/etc/wifi/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini -> gRoamPrefer5GHz=0 TEST maybe not needed!!!
2) in adb shell add this to global settings: settings put global wifi_score_params rssi2=-95:-85:-73:-60,rssi5=-85:-82:-70:-57
3) reboot
Let us know
Cheers
After experimenting I came to the conlusion that wifi antenna in Redmi Note 8 is terrible.
I compared it with wifi RSSI values of my old Redmi 4X and rssi values are at least 10 dB lower. That is more than 8 times worse antenna.
You might wonder if there is a wifi antenna at all in the Note 8.
I don't want to open the back cover to fix this (if possible). You get what you pay for. Be warned.
High Quality Headphones
Hi,
Added 2 xmlfiles for improved High Quality Headphone sound. Copy them to /vendor/etc (maybe make copy of original first?)
audio_platform_info_intcodec.xml
mixer_paths_idp.xml
For MiSound you maybe need to set setprop ro.audio.hifi true (or in build.prop:ro.audio.hifi=true)
Happy listening with good headphones
Cheers
