I have the hero. It is rooted with aospCmod 2.3.3. Should I get to the evo, or wait a bit longer. Im screwed on the upgrade part of it, as it is after aptir for me. Maybe sprint will have something worth waiting for at CTIA?

Yea I am wondering the same thing.
... I might be upgrading today. It's just been a very difficult decision. Evo or evo shift? I watched many comparison videos. It seems like shift would be the way to go, because its 2nd generation snapdragon. But I love the big screen on the evo, its huge so you don't need a hardware keyboard. Games- I don't play much(besides Star Traders), just a couple. I'm all about fast browsing and watching videos like on YouTube etc. Thanks for reading, and I would appreciate your input

now that I'm running AOSP 2.3.3 along w/ Launcher Pro instead of ADW, I feel little need at the moment to move to a Evo. I mean, I still want to, but this thing is so much better than a stock hero, that I think I'll be good for a while.

Dim, I think we should. I'm sick of the hero. Only reason I got it was because I didn't have the cash for a good phone. Now I do, so screw it, I'm tired of trying rom after rom just to tolerate my phone. I'm getting the Evo for sure.

I love my evo to death! I took a cruise through the hero forums today to see if there's any new and cool to do to my moms hero(still a good phone), I noticed a lot of you guys are on the fence trying to decide between the shift and the big one!
A couple things I want to point out. Shift may have slightly better specs but regardless I have never seen a slow down on anything, life is fast and large.
Also on the keyboard side, the on screen keyboard on the evo is much better than the hero due to a improved touch sensor and just having the buttons be larger. Also after you get it you can remove the stupid arrows(they take up too much space).
Go down to a Sprint store and play around with them till you find something that really makes you say yes this is sweet. For me, I have large hands and the evo is a lot easier for me to use because of the big screen(also I use the kick stand at least twice a day.). And they just got hdmi out working too!
Also in no way am I trying to put down the Shift, just pointing out even though papa evo is older its still in no way a slouch.

I'm glad sprint is sticking with the EVO brand for its flagship android devices. Don't get me wrong, I like choices, but I mean the EVO is almost a year old, and it hasn't been until recently that anything else worth buying has come out (atrix, nexus s, etc.). Now that they're refreshing it, I'm sure the new EVO will be the best thing on the market for a long time.

I think its you. The major issue with Samsung is their dragging ass getting updates out. Otherwise, imho, their hardware is excellent.

I'm waiting on the EVO 3D
Here's what I did... may help someone...
I knew my upgrade was going away come this Friday. So, I used my upgrade to get my new Evo (upgraded from old beloved Hero). Got it at Best Buy. Forked over $149 (had a $50 coupon) and paid them the extra $40 for their BuyBack program & BlackTie. Original retail cost of the Evo is listed at $599.
Then, I upgraded my plan to Shared to include my mom (porting her away from TMobile... so, that's an extra $150 service credit promotional from Sprint right there). BestBuy is currently running a new activation promotion and gave her a free LG Optimus S, retailing at $399. I spent an extra $40 for their BuyBack program on this phone also. Then, I gave my mom my old Hero and had Sprint do a free handset swap. So, now I've got this free LG Optimus sitting around in a box, never gonna be used. And I'm canceling the mandatory BlackTie $10/month on the 31st day from purchase.
Still with me here? So... when the new Evo 3D comes out, all I gotta do is take my current Evo back into Best Buy within the next 6months and they give me a $299 gift card for my Evo on BuyBack, and $199 for the never been opened Optimus S.
I failed ethics in high school. And college.

And your mom gets your ****ty old Hero. LMAO. JK, Sounds as if you worked the system for sure. Question though, Lets say the 3D retail is 599, 699, 799 without the upgrade price. Will they roll back your eligibility to get the phone at the upgrade price? I guess it's better than spending the full retail.
You are getting back 498 for sure but you come up short and then if your.. "Mom's" hero breaks... then you have to get here a new Optimus S on Ebay.
I do hope it works out for you. Sounds like some of the finagling I do.

I've had the N7 for less than a day and I'm head over heels in love with it. My next phone will be a Nexus for sure.
Useless thread but I just had to share the love.
If everyone bought Nexus devices because of the prompt updates, it would kick other manufacturers into investing in larger software development teams to deliver updates ontime.

Any reason why it wouldn't? Aren't they supposed to come out with multiple Nexus phones sometime at the end of this year?

If profits at Google fall at some point they may take resources away from the hardware side and concentrate on the software side. Wouldn't like to see that happen but can't be discounted.
If, as seems likely, the Nexus 7 becomes the top-selling Android tablet other manufacturers may decide to withdraw from the sector as they can't compete against a company using consumable sales profits in the Play Store to effectively subsidise their manufacturing costs. Alternatively there could be some form of unfair competition or monopoly complaint. Hope not but wouldn't rule it out.

Seriously, thank you for this.
I was worried when I first came on the Nexus sub-forum, that there was a lot of negativity and issues. And granted there are bad experiences with every first run of any product.... but this is the first phone/media device purchase that I have actually been fairly content with it out of the box. My phone (Samsung Vibrant) I have gotten tired the last few months of flashing it weekly since I bought it.
Of course, I am bound to run into things, but I felt the same way clankfu

The solution for the OEMS is to keep stock jellybean! To differentiate, include new or different hardware or form factor etc. Then put exclusive apps or features that don't require a change of the system. You could have the play store check for something unique to allow the product download or something. That way there would be no problem keeping it current.

I felt bad for your tab, but upon watching a video that had no use, rather you could have posted a picture and that would have done the job, I couldn't understand a word you said, It was like you were on a sugar rush.
Also, who does a shoutout when their tab is broken?
My dad bought it with his Amex Card. Whenever you buy something with an Amex card, it is automatically covered with Insurance. We are going to get the money back and also keep the 8 GB. With the money, we are going to buy a new 16 GB one.

OT:
I would agree with you strongly on this. Back in the years my pops would only get me something he felt was "worth it" for my age. If I had asked him for anything over $100 it was a strong NO until I came to realize it's value/worth. If not for that I wouldn't be looking after all my gadgets like they were diamonds.
Pops can fork over $200 more for a new N7 but it's useless if you aren't a developer. I would agree if you had an 8GB, it broke, but you're a developer and daddy got you a brand new one because it was worth it, not for Angry Birds in HD. But wow, this is outrageous. if daddy forks it over way too fast, then you'll never look after your things. Ever. If anything, you might aswell learn/do something with your tab, You're like what? 13+ by the sound of your voice. You're young, do something with all those gadget's you have marked under your signature and maybe daddy's Amex would be worth it.
Are you saying I should start developing? I know a lot about ROMs and stuff like that. I also know alot about tech. I am looking to start developing. Well, In all honestly, I didn't see the need for this thread, You may call it bashing but I call it bulk. If you're getting it replaced, and the older tab is covered under the insurance why the need for this thread?, If you're asking for help, the best you'll get are links you can get the parts separately or stuff you could probably Google it yourself. Why not get that repaired elsewhere and enjoy the new 16GB, In the end you'll have 2 tabs and one which won't become and expensive paperweight. You can't sell that tab because Nexus are known for their no on screen buttons, and whats the use if the digitizer/glass is cracked and all you can do is turn it on to show the pretty wallpaper.
If anything I'm not mad here, Just find it insane that you made this thread to tell us "Daddy's replacing it with a new 16GB with his Amex" well, good for you kiddo.
I see people all the time making videos about their broken tabs and phones so I decided to do it to. My dad isn't even going to have to pay for the new Nexus. He is getting it with the insurance money. Also, about my other phones and stuff, I bought then with my own money for big discounts from friends and stuff like that. I don't even have a PC or Laptop. I had a choice between the N7 and a PC/laptop. I got the N7 because I like playing with ROMs and stuff. Also, I knew I could make some vids on the Nexus. Last thing, the Nexus 7 only costs 200$ and a good PC/Laptop costs over 700$. I'm not asking for help, I was just saying that it broke. The reason I am getting it replaced is because t wasn't me who broke it. If I broke it, I wouldn't be getting a new one.

Well that wasn't a smart choice, How do you expect to "learn" about ROM's or developing in general when infact 99% of all that requires a PC, if anything your own personal storage that people won't erase because your stuff makes no sense to the non techy's---buddy, joining a group on ROM building/development with a tab is like joining a bodybuilding competition with flabs.
Anyways I'm done here.

For the price, I was thinking about waiting around for nexus 4 8Gb version: I don't want to spend more money... but.... will I have to wait 2 more months? 3 perhaps? That's what's making me doubt: If I knew I would be able to buy it next week, I would wait.. but 2 months... it's something I would have to think about....

The price is too much.... I want a device with good specifications but what I mind most is that it should be fully open so the devs can release updates until the hardware gives up.... not until they find a difficulty like an undocumented chipset, having to stay weeks without sound, missing functions... etc etc....

While the nexus 4 is awesome and aosp is awesome, you will not find the custom ROMs to have much variation. On my sensation we had sense and aosp, but on the nexus we have aosp and we might get miui whenever that comes out with 4.2, but that's about it. If you love aosp, go with the nexus. Otherwise get your device with your bloat of choice.

Yes, we know... but there is a slight problem with the stock.... as you know....
If there were no problem with it, many more people would already have it...
The good thing is that people is starting to get a bit smarter:
-They are starting to reject the enslaving carrier contracts offering way overpriced phones in exchange of years of slavery with them
-The search for bloated-free phones.
But what google & LG are doing with the availability of the phone is really unbelievable....
Would suggest waiting for the S4, if you can. The reason is that with the Tegra 4 and Exynos 5 out, it wouldn't take time for the quad chips the current phones have to become a thing of the past. If you want the newest technology then wait. If not, buy a Nexus 4. It's the best money can buy.

I don't want to spend 600 euros on a device.... 300-400 is enough.... over that, I think is overpriced.... it's paying 200 more euro for 400 mhz more.... in the end.. I think it's not worth it.... unless you are a tech geek that needs to have the latest device.
I prefer something more modest but efficient..... A SGSII is fine nowadays: All the daily use apps work and it has the latest CM available....
If you want to play games with your device, it's another story... then, it's mandatory to look into which graphic chipset is built into the device and so......
People talk about nexus 4 as if it were so easy to get your hands on one.... here in spain it has been sold out like since always.... and, as I can read, there is little hope of getting one in the next weeks..... so, what am I supposed to do, hang on to my galaxy spica (it's my emergency/replacement phone) until the end of 2013? :crying:

Check your drawer. You might have a Nokia 3310 with enough battery to run for the next 29 years.
Get one of those cool slidy ones from the matrix.

Seriously, Nexus 4 is the best choice.
No matter custom rom or stock brings an awesome performance and it is supported by Google.
It has the first one to update!

Sold out + no carrier offers it in spain (plus, as I said, that would be a dumb move, a 300 euro device would finally cost you more than 1000)
Next week I will get my money back if i don't get my sgsII back......
Now, I have to look forward... this last week I have been reading news about stock of nexus 4 sometime next month (i hope this applies to spain too)..... I think I will go for the 8 Gb version....
I hope they don't run out of units too soon and we become a small group of nexus 4 users finally....

Buy the nexus 4 if you can get your hands on it.
Otherwise wait for S4

I do a bit, it's not a bad phone. Just not many custom roms. I should of researched it before, but I know now lol. I should of spent the extra 100 and get the one X at the time. I will probably keep the phone and use it for 1 more year as my main phone, what about everyone else?
also thanks to homeslice for sense4 and the all the other devs that have supported this phone.:good:
I regret it a little as well becasue of the low amount of devolpment for the phone but Homeslice's Sense 4.1 rom makes it alright. Hope that there will be a 4.2 rom for it.
Yeah I regret it a little too. I remember standing in the store debating between the vivid or the skyrocket. I kind of wish I got the skyrocket....
But I only have another month and I can get a new phone...what to get???

lil bit. i also wish i had bought the one x at the time i got mine. but im happy with what we have. even if its not much. big thanks to the devs. :good:
Yep, very much so.
I got it on launch day, but I was deciding between the regular SGS2 and the Raider. Going off of the presence of LTE, a friend's opinion of the DHD, and how solidly built that phone was, I decided to give HTC my business. A huge mistake. The build isn't holding up as well as the DHD's is (I have since bought my friend's DHD, as he upgraded to a SGS3, and use it as my DD), as I have noticeable bronzing of the volume and power buttons, along with the clear coat chipping off the plastic near said buttons. This is only after about 8 months (and no drops) of active DD use, not even the two years (and four drops) that the DHD has endured. Sense 3.x is also nowhere nearly as nice as Sense 2.1. Another huge issue is that the DHD can easily make a full day with moderate to heavy usage; my Raider's battery lasts 8 hours maximum, regardless of usage.
Yes I do. There was a decent development community before the dev wars and then they all went their separate ways leaving the Vivid to die. Some devs have their own sites but the reason I bought this phone was because of the hype behind it. First we had a locked bootloader, then s-off took months to achieve, then dev wars. I'll be MUCH more selective with what phone I will buy from now on as a result. Not buying right away and certainly not buying from ATT will be on my checklist from here on out. Homeslice and WC have done an excellent job keeping this device alive throughout the crisis. I love Sense but cannot justify buying HTC with all of the hoops you have to jump through to use the device the way you want to. Here's to hoping the next phone I buy will be friendlier.

Got the phone, no I don't regret it mostly because of the LTE capability. At the time I was looking at the Raider, Atrix 2 and the Vivid. All things considered (like HTC/ATT's upgrade software once and forget you policy) I probably should have gone with the Atrix, but I was an HTC lover at the time (having had the original Tilt and Tilt 2).
Next phone however will not be an HTC. I don't like the HTC One XL (no SD storage) and being able to get the ability to flash a custom Rom is increasingly becoming a pain in the ass with HTC. Just my 2 cents.
Yeah I regret it even now. I've replaced both me and my wife's vivids with nexus 4s but we're still under contract for the things till next year. I wanted the one x, but got sick of waiting on an announcement for it so I was considering just a regular non lte gs2. A friend of mine said lte was awesome, so I looked at the skyrocket instead and it was $199, the vivid was $99 and had damn near identical specs so I went for it. Loved it initially but after about 2 or 3 months of terrible battery life I decided I was going to buy whatever nexus phone came out Christmas time.

No I don't regret it.
I came from Garminfone where there's ZERO developer community to the Raider/Vivid. Whatever there is here is more than I had
LTE: I don't have a data plan anymore as of this morning. I did have unlimited LTE with Bell in Canada for 6 months, but did not use it enough to warrant $60/month for the data plan after the free 6th month. WiFi will have to suffice for the 2 years left in my contract.
The phone has been fun to play with, but feature wise, I've grown bored with it.
I don't regret getting this phone at all. There may have been phones at the time that had "better" hardware (the stock rom on the GS2 is super smooth) but the coders who work, or have worked, on the Vivid have done an absolutely amazing job.
Remember back when CM was just a pipe dream? Now it's functional (with a few kinks, but I'm confident the devs can figure that stuff out.)
I haven't tried many roms, but from what I've experienced they beat the stock rom by a nearly infinite amount.
HTC made a great phone with the Vivid. If you don't believe me, stop by xda in a few months and compare the current state of development with what you are witnessing. Eyes wide open, jaw dropped I'd imagine.
Let me share my experience that so far I have got with this phone.
My last phone was the HTCOX, and I believe the camera resolution was way more better than this one.
Unless I'm applying wrong settings, I don't see to get good pix. They are coming too pixelated.
What do you think?

I don't regret getting the phone, it being my first android phone and all, I've loved using the phone. Sure there's not enough development going on for it but the developers that are actually doing things for this phone are doing great jobs. It is strongly built, the only body flaw is the bronzing of the volume keys and lock button. The hardware is still up to standard. All in all a decent phone

I am very glad I got this phone. It has been solid, reliable and has done everything I've ever asked it to do. I was fortunate to fall in with WC early on as a vivid beta tester. I am currently running a beta ROM (might not be publicly released) from WC and it is incredible. Fast, stable and outstanding battery life.
I foresee this phone carrying me through for another two years at least.
This fall I will ditch my overpriced AT&T service plan and hook into either the T-Mo $30 plan or the Straight Talk $45 plan. The money I save will go toward a new unlocked phone down the road.
I really don't hate htc anymore. And that's why I regret that phone. Didn't look into the fine details, I seriously believed it to be HTCs flagship device on at&t. Nope, it was the budget friendly lte phone. It didn't make a big splash nor was it intended too, just a phone with a $99 price tag intended to sway holiday shoppers.
For every galaxy s that comes out, Samsung releases 200 crap models, and as for htc? The sensation was the flagship, the vivid was your Samsung Galaxy ace. Nuff said.

That's exactly what happend to me. Best buy had this for for 0 dollars and on 3 year contract and plus and 100 gift card so I immediately bought it without much thought since it was my first android phone.

The thing is that this was the flagship phone and was marketed as such. In SF there were billboards everywhere with this phone along with lte branding everywhere. It was being sold for 200 on contract for 3 weeks and because it didn't sell well they dropped the price to move more units. 3 months later the one X dropped and this phone faded into the sunset. I even wrote to HTC wondering why our phone was booted to the legacy section after 3 months and they gave me the runaround. The HTC M4 will likely release in another couple of months. And will be for a larger audience because of its smaller size. HTC never changed. They won't be wasting my time or getting my money any longer.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
I don't think it means much that it was on a billboard, I mean at&t is marketing the hell out of the HTC first right now, I wouldn't consider it a flagship by any means.

It was all over the city and they had TV commercials all over the bay area for it as well. At the time, Verizon was the only carrier with an active LTE network and ATT needed this flagship phone, the first LTE phone, to get in the consumers hands. They handled the support for this phone poorly plain and simple.

Yeah but wasn't the skyrocket released along side it? The lg nitro was right around the same time too. The nitro was the same price when I bought it but I wasn't sure I trusted LG. Go figure, now I'm using an LG, and love it.

Yeah they both came out at about the same time. Looking forward to the next Nexus regardless though. LG has done well with their handsets
