Ics rom - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please suggest 2.3 rom whiich is the most stable and fast
Sent from my E16i using XDA App

Don't ask for ETA's!
Read the forum rulez!
EDIT: Yeah, change the title and everything and make me look like an idiot.

Firstly, ICS isnt android 2.3, its android 4.1, android 2.3 is Ginger Bread, currently, all the ICS developments are still in beta stages and arent really recomended for daily use because they are still very buggy and need a lot of work before they can really be complete.
However if infact youre looking for a Ginger Bread ROM then there are a few different ones on our side of the forum that are all complete in their own ways, so youll get mixed responses from everyone on what they think is the 'most complete' ROM, just try a few out for yoirself and if youre up for it try some of the kernels that are in development and see what suits you best, its probably the best way of finding out really.

Done with Cognition, which other ROM shall I try?

Lately release schedule, quality and support of Cogntion went sour. I want to try some other ROM and wondering if somebody switched from Cognition to some other ROM and still had a good quality experience.
My wishlist is very simple really:
1. I want ROM to lilst "Russian" as supported language on handset.
2. Stable ROM
3. Good battery life (don't care about overclocking and stuff like that)
Wrong forum kiddo
This should be in Q&A btw . Not in development . No trolling intended .
Honestly , just try out all the ROMs out there . The best 2.2 ROM i've tried was FireFly , but atm , I'm on the MIUI port for the Captivate .
339 post and still posting on the wrong sub-forum? I hope you really mistaken this as the Q&A
but back on topic, I'm on Continuum v4 with speedmod, its pretty good.
You should try them all and see which one suits you. If you want Russian language support I would recommend going to i9000 section and checking out some of those roms too. Or you could flash a different CSC file (one with Russian) with Odin. I like this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
Obviously, you'll have to do some heavy tweaking, but I find that starting with a good base and customizing yourself is the best way to go.
Im gonna go ahead and suggest either firefly or serendipity

For me, Continuum v4 un-themed has been the best. BUT your mileage may vary . I love the i9000 modem speeds.
without a doubt cyanogen mod 7. It is very stable in my opinion, battery life gets me well through the day..and it's just so fast... longest i've ever stayed on a single rom.
I have tried them all . I also like cog. But now i use firefly. You should give it a try u might like it.

Just like others, I suggest you try them.
As for personnal opinion, I like Team Phoenix's work (FireFly being my top) but there's also A3 that is extremly stable and very stock styled.
Also Seren by MM is something you might wanna take a look at.
Then again, just my personnal opinion and I think you should try many before choosing the one that suits you the best
Andromeda3 without a doubt
Yeah this does belong in q&a but im sure everyone is in a good mood rite now. But im sure a good gingerbread rom will drop in the next few days

Paragon has always been my favorite for the captivate, lots of themes and its always been stable for me..

Yep! Andromeda really is superb.
Miui

Not development but if you're not falling into the 2.2.1 or cm7 crazes get andromeda. It is probably the best quality of any rom period.
Way better than cog ever was. Just swap the modem for kc1.
I also like the work from dagr8. He was an andromeda dev.
2.2.1 may benchmark faster than 2.2 but andromeda is the only captivate rom built from captivate (i9010 armani)sources that was developed by a team of devs. There was a lot of work put into it. And coming from cognition you are not loosing anything only gaining.

Dragon RC7 is also an awesome rom! I suggest Suckerpunch voodoo #12 with cfq scheduler if you go this route. I switch between the two every other day. Just can't decide which is better. Though I am bent toward andromeda.
Thread moved.

There are just too many ROMs, i897 + i9000, I cannot even possibly try them all

[Q] which rom is the best? im running eclair currently.

which rom is the most stable and fast? and link on how to install it.
*facepalm*
Start by reading the forums.. Secondly, start by upgrading your stock firmware to a late XW or XX. Go to samfirmware.com, they have everything you need
Eclair???
Then update to gingerbread and you should have a bog difference which maybe makes you happy.
If not there is no best ROM just search on the development section there are also guides for each ROM

With respect it is a personal thing and moderators invariably shut these threads due to the grief they cause, it is a matter of thorough research and experimentation that will get you too the best rom for you
GTi9000 insanity cm012/glitch
I liked Juwe's 4.3.1, he just released 5.0, but I didn't test it cause I'm running CM7. But if 5.0 as good as or even better then 4.3.1 then just try it. Fast - good - beatiful and in my opinion (one of) the best Samsung-based ROMs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964672 (installation instructions are included in this thread)
for me HaWkiSH Premium 2™ is very stable , fast and beatiful.

Need ROM recommendation

Hi all. I'm a long time WM user, but a complete Android noob. My gf just got a Vibrant, and I was able to root and unlock it. I deleted some of the bloat that came along with it.
I'm going to get a Captivate very soon (it's stock ATT). I know the phones are almost identical, but I would like to get a stripped rom. Think Da_G's Fuze and Jacko's Rhodium.
What would be a good rom for me to start with? With WM, you would just flash a rom and be done, but with Android, I notice there are both roms and kernels. Which would I need? And what order do I flash them in?
Thanks in advance for any help and info.
a. this is the dev section, meant for posting roms/kernels and not for asking simple questions
b. a rom always comes with a custom kernel
c. since there's dozens of roms you're going to have to look at its features/themes and decide which one suits you best.
Need to learn where to post properly.
Sorry - can a mod please move this to the general section. But thanks for the info regarding roms/kernels.
Start with Cyanogen first.

dont post here blah blah...
read the rules first blah blah...
Id go with a Froyo ROM first, i went with Mikeymike's Serendipity 6.4 for me first, super easy to do it and much less can go wrong. never soft bricked my phone on a froyo ROM.
then when i went to gingerbread i went with Mikymike's Serendipity VII, soft bricked it 3 or 4 times. i recommend getting a JIG or making ur own JIG before doing a gingerbread ROM.
First rom, avoid gb roms. Do not mess with boot loaders until you understand your phone. Froyo roms, cm7, miui

+1 best advice of them all , personally im biased .. (read my sig )
although I disagree , cm7 and miui is not somethign for starters .. read the Cyanogen OP it clearly states its not a rom to start with ..
for the rest .. best advice is to try them all and se what works best for YOU.
You are correct about cm7 and miui, and you make great roms
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Although CM7 and MIUI are great Roms.. Go with Serendipity. Start with Froyo then go to the Gingerbread version.
Personally, it's the most stable and has never done me wrong.. But then again it's all up to the user.

ICS for Stock X8

SOMEONE please develop an ICS for stock X8 because since i can't unlock my bootloader i am twisted to the Gingerbread Stock version.
can anyone recommend me a Bug-free and stable Ice cream sandwich Rom for my STOCK X8??
i am searching for a great ROM a while,i tried all the CM7.2 ROM for stock.
Please try to understand the fact that it is nearly impossible to develop ICS for stock kernel. The best you can get is an extremely laggy ROM which is just a proof of concept where nothing works the way it should. devstaff tried but quit and so did troufiniou. The only way you can get a stable ICS ROM on your X8 is by unlocking your bootloader. Otherwise you have to be satisified with a themed CM7.2 ROM. Hope you understand.
i think people should learn to be satisfied, some devices which has better spec than our phone cant even get cm7 so lets just enjoy cm7 shall we
Ics is a lil laggy even on custom kernel , on stock is impossible to make it work.
Sent from my E15i using xda app-developers app
oh... how many such threads have we seen before?
like
ics for stock.
why not stock kernel.
..please people...read old threads too... they have the same Q.. and the same answers... so please dont make such threads and waste the board
did you do homework about this topic before posting?
where do you get the Android x86 4.0.3 please send me the link and how to dual-boot from it,i am using Windows 8 PRO (ORIGINAL) Acer AOD250
it is possible ics on stock but it will be so laggy

Not the average ROM question

My buddy has a cappy and the poor soul is still running 2.1. Now that he no longer has a warranty on it, he wants to root and upgrade it.
My question isn't what's the best ROM because I understand that is highly subjective, but rather, what is the most stable ROM?
ICS on the HTC Inspire only recently hit mile stone release status and, while fairly stable prior to this, still had it's bugs. This was fine for me, but I don't want to bring my friend into this awesome world with a ****ty experience right off the bat plagued with random reboots, bootloops, or non working functions.
So what ROMs are rock solid stable and are good for daily drivers?
And like I said, I'm not looking for "I like this ROM" and I'm not trying to ask what is the best ROM. Only asking about stability.
Thanks guys
Still subjective...but my 2 cents --
Stability wise I would suggest that he upgrade to the Gingerbread 2.3.5 i897ucKK4 release, get Root and then Debloat it completely. Let him run that for a while. He will be pleasantly surprised i think, especially compared to eclair 2.1 that he has been running. Afterwards if he wants to move on to a Developer's Rom, then there are plenty of KK4 based Roms to choose from. He will just have to do some diggin in the Dev forum.
The other Roms ICS, JB, AOSP, CM, MIUI and those similar are very good...but still subjective to each individual user as to what is stable and fit for a daily driver, etc.

Sounds good. I appreciate the reply.
I do have one last question though. As far as doing this, it looks like I just need to get him updated via the Samsung website updates and then use SuperOneClick for root. Is this correct?
I ask because holy crap are there a lot of traps to accidentally fall in to...
He could do the mini kies route to froyo then gb Or he/u could use the kk4 one click odin or heimdall with bootloaders and then get Root through the [Utility] KK4 Easy Root by Red_81 --- both of these u can find in my signature link below.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
The Heimdall followed by Easy Root seems the best way to go then (less steps). Thanks so much. I appreciate it.
Now to find that page with the drivers again.... lol (no need to post the link, I'll find it haha)
Here ya go, it was close by... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33577757

That's not the page I was looking at before. lol
I was looking here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858765 That and, of course, installing the SDK on his computer.
But after reading the Heimdall page and that post you pointed me to, it seems I was looking in the wrong direction. I know the SDK won't hurt anything though, so that is still getting put on there, if for no other reason than ADB. (I'm a fan of ADB. It's gotten me out of more than a few binds before.)

Completely agree with this. Your buddy will need to experience and learn a lot of stuff through this transition, therefor, making the jump to JB from Eclair could make a mess.
Although, once he reaches that point, I have to say that I've been very pleased with AOKP (now on milestone). I was quite hesitant to use it as my daily ROM cause I was so used to stability over tweaks with ROMs made by The Family and The Collective. I've been on it since JB was ported to our cappy and I'm seriously loving it! Can't imagine flashing anything else as my daily ROM unless it's as stable and that coming from a flash addict!
Anyway, hope the transition goes well!
Me too. We were gonna do it yesterday, but after the mayhem of my truck (took 4 hours to rotate TWO tires....), we decided that luck was not with us and decided against it lol. Hopefully I can get him to man up about it today.
Thanks for the help guys! Now to produce another convert... muahahahaha!
I would simply use the stable version of CM10.

I believe CM10 is on nightly builds atm, therefor, bugs are meant to happen. Might not be the best idea for a first step into JB
