Do WIFI only devices have an IMEI numbers? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I thought only 3G and 4G devices had IMEI numbers (my WIFI only Motorola Xoom doesn't). SO how can the Note be considered a tablet if it does have an IMEI number?

Note has 3g

A Tablet can be either WIFI only or WIFI & 3G (sim card), look at the Ipad for ex.

All notes have an IMEI number as there is no wifi only versions, but devices like the Galaxy tab that is available in wifi only wouldn't have an IMEI number

I can't speak for the verizon note 3, as I have the at&t version. But I did have a verizon S4 on the AT&T network, and the service was horendous. You won't get LTE, but you might get hspa+, service is intermitent Just use this apn and gou're good to go.

Don't spend $700 on a device that won't even support LTE.. plus I think the VZW one is locked also..
I use to buy CDMA devices and use them on GSM but the service and support is just trash

FYI
My phone - Black Verizon Galaxy Note 3 with 4.4.2
I called Verizon about whether or not I could have my unlock code for my Verizon Note 3 since I was going out of the country for a week and wanted to know if my phone could be used as a back up with a local SIM. Verizon told me my phone didn't need a code and I could use it in a different country based on that country's capabilities. I didn't end up using it there but that was useful information.
Today I took my Verizon Galaxy Note 3 to AT&T for service since my contract was up on Verizon and I already had my iPad with AT&T. So here's what I found out... A AT&T SIM does indeed work in my Verizon Note 3 with a couple of complications:
- I wasn't getting data at first but when we changed the "Connections/More Networks/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names/ +" entered "att phone" as the name and "phone" under APN. Voila 20+ MB speeds download... pretty sure I'm on their LTE bandwidth... (Via Speedtest App) (this does seem to vary a bit)
- It says my SIM is from an unknown source in the notifications but data, texts, and calls work just fine.
- At first I couldn't get AT&T visual voicemail to work (Yes I'm needy and demanding haha) only basic voicemail and customer service had to start it up on their end using some other phone number as the number being called vs. my number or *86. Their resigning for this was that their system didn't recognize my IMEI as an LTE phone... and further explanation saying that they didn't test the Verizon version so it's not in the system (fair enough). SO.... I found a work around... a AT&T Note 3 IMEI registered as mine with my number... and presto... visual voicemail
- It does't tell me what type of signal I'm getting in the notifications, just "H+" (HSPA+?)with a 0 to 5 bars. (Whatever)
So a couple hiccups but all and all, it works. Just an FYI and a few details for you guys. Hope this helps.
I had my Note 3 changed from Verizon to AT&T. I get an error message that the Sim card in not a Verizon card, but the voice and data connection via the phone (not through a wireless internet connection) works fine.
HOWEVER... I have noticed that the MMI codes do not work when entered on the phone.
Is this a result of changing to AT&T? Whatever the cause, how do I get the MMI codes to work again? I have sought guidance on YouTube and have tried recommendations there to no avail.
Do you know how to fix this problem?
Thanks.

[Q] Help with C6906 and getting LTE on ATT

Hi guys.. I searched around and couldn't get find a solution.. hence the post.. apologies in advance if I'm asking a stupid question/already answered question. I'm visiting xda after a couple of years so haven't really kept up with the happenings...
Anyways.. here is my predicament.
1. I originally had an iphone 4s on AT&T.. which means LTE wasn't "activated" on the data plan.
2. I bought a sony xperia Z1 C6906.. which from what I understand is compatible with AT&T LTE bands
3. I called AT&T and they registered the xperia's IMEI and the new sim I put into it. However, they said it only showed up a generic gsm phone.. and they weren't sure if the new IMEI for a "non-ATT phone" would actually kick me into "LTE allowed" plan. For those who don't know, when you buy a phone from AT&T.. they automatically allocate a "type" of data plan and it is non-LTE if the phone you get is a non-LTE device.. (like the iphone 4s I had).
4. Anyway.. so I'm getting HSPA+.. I have the default apn settings that the phone automatically downloaded. Not getting LTE at all.
5. I put the sim from my friend's ATT LTE phone.. and LTE popped up on the status bar.. no issues.. so I know the hardware is good.
6. Are there any apn settings that is customized for the xperia z1 C6906 that'll get me LTE? What are my solutions here?
Thank you.
I'm was in a similar boat as you here. Here's what I had to do to get LTE provisioned on my account.
1. Get an IMEI number for an at&t LTE phone (I used a note 2 from an at&t store)
2. Call at&t and switch your IMEI
3. They should now be able to provision your account with LTE
Funny thing is when I called at&t with my C6906 Z1's IMEI, they said it was coming up as a blackberry without LTE. I told him to leave the old Note 2 IMEI in there.
You can find apn settings by doing a quick search, but you need to have it provisioned first.

Thank you for your response. I have a few more questions..
1. say if I use my friend's IMEI ..of a phone that is currently ON AT&T.. will that affect his line in any bad way? Are IMEIs tied to an account? can there be 2 different lines with the same IMEI on them?
2. Also.. does the phone whose IMEI I would be using.. have to be physically with me? (meaning will it only get "accepted" into the AT&T system after I've put my sim into it and rebooted the phone or something?)

I feel sorry for all you AT&T folks - that is the most convoluted and time consuming method I've seen to get LTE working...
I thought Rogers up in Canada is bad, but after reading your solution, I guess we Canadians should be thankful. For us, as long as both the SIM and Phone support LTE, it should work. Rogers used to charge extra for LTE service - not sure if they still do. (I am with Telus)
Canadian carriers don't really care about the phone at all - unless its been stolen of course. And carrier locking...
got it to work finally!.. yea.. had to get an original AT&T sanctioned LTE phone's IMEI number.. and then the sim could be used into sony xperia with LTE... whew!
this obviously is not a situation someone who already has AT&T LTE will face.. only applicable to those who are going from non-LTE phones to Sony Xperia.
Thanks y'all.

Your Xperia Z1 has a generic firmware? I'm looking for a generic .534 FTF for the C6906
Nope. I don't have any generic firmwares or even root.

That is absolutely horrid. I've been with AT&T for a while and didn't have to do that at any point. Glad you got it fixed but it's something that shouldn't have existed in the first place.

Warid 4G LTE Services Problem on N900a AT&T Galaxy Note 3

Hay, Guys This is @talvigi back with a simple but specific to my region question, and it is most vital for many guys like me because all the dumped devices come directly here.
Sorry guys if someone hurted but truly, now-a-days nobody around me buys a new phone because most of the flagship devices of 2013 and 14 are now available in cheap prices, so who pays a lot for a new phone when he/she knows the thing is going to be 50% cheaper within months if not weeks.
My problem is that i have bought an AT&T Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900A (now running Lollipop N900AUCUEOC2 stock, and not rooted i have updated it vide SDcard update from recovery)
As far as we now have Warid 4G LTE Services available in our area and many of my friends are using them on their Gfive LTE 2 and LTE 3 devices, so my concern builds up as i have a better device compared to GFive's LTE 2/3. But i have done all my best to connect to LTE all in vain.
i have tried the method which i saw in the forum and it worked for someone's AT&T Galaxy S4 *#*#0011# but as it was made specifically for Galaxy S4 but i did try it with no result, and i also tried the *#2263# selected LTE Band Preference as LTEB3 (because Warid is on 1800 FDD Band 3) and also selected [7]LTE/GSM Mode Only(*). But still no luck on my note 3.
And in the last the *#*#4636#*#* which brought me to an screen where i was able to see the "Device Info" which shows us i thing all the information currently available in the device and gives us the of RUN PING TEST and there is a thing says :"Set preferred Network type: LTE/GSM auto (PRL)
TURN OFF RADIO and many others.
So guys any one interested helping poor people in the world
And i'm sorry for my poor English and always incomplete questions too,
Still waiting for someone to response my little big question.
My friend's Galaxy S4 i337 also does int Support the Warid 4 G LTE
.
AT&T Galaxy Note 3 @N900A has the band 3 (1800) band
I have checked it by entering to service mode *#2263#. Now the point of talk is that, why the hell it doesn't connect to Warid LTE which is running on band 3, whether this band is banned by the AT&T or does it need some special tweaking to get working on that band my post has some screen shots from service mode. All the devs and gurus are requested to at least comment on it bcz your words are leaders for us guys.

Check if the IMEI on the phone (in About Device, or using *#06#) matches the IMEI on the back of the phone behind the battery. I had an S3 that had this problem, would only work on 2G/GSM, never on LTE, and it was because of a corrupt EFS partition (reflected by incorrect IMEI).
If this is the case, there are ways to set it right, but I believe it is illegal to discuss them here. All I can say is that everything you need to do it is available on these forums. Good luck!
Well the iemi matches and my phone is not a refurbished one so that isn't the case

Your model doesnt support 1800 mhz on band 3.. Lte.. The hardware of modem is not supported, only 9005 model has that band.

Xperia SP (C5303) with Reliance Jio 4G?

So, my Xperia SP has been my faithful and unused backup phone for a while now and I was just about to consider selling it for almost nothing (replacing Note 2 with Note 7 and making Note 2 backup), when I thought about using this phone as a 4G hotspot if it supported the required bands. I booted up the SP, it has some CM11 rom flashed and when I checked in CPUZ, the phone identified as C5303. Now C5303 has LTE support- 1800 and 2300 which means it SHOULD be compatible with Reliance Jio 4G, so should I sign up for the Jio SIM card (will use my moms Note 4 to get the sim free) and try it out?
Thanks
Depends on which version of SP you are using. 4G is supported only on C5303 and C5306.
Check gsmarena dot com.
MyJio app doesn't generate code for XSP

It shows LTE but MyJio app doesn't create any code. So, you can't really get a sim on it. However, temporary spoofing your IMEI might work.
HI,
I am also facing the above issue. whats the solution to use jio on XSP?
regards,
Dinesh
I got the jio sim, but never managed to get it to activate on my moms note 4 (jio network issues). The sim just lies on my desk and I haven't tried since then on moms phone or XSP.

Using a Tab S2 with LTE as a phone

I have a Tab S2 T817W with LTE, unlocked and rooted.
I am leaving for Japan, China and Hong Kong for vacation soon. I was able to use the data SIM cards in those places to connect to Internet last time when I was there.
Is there anyway that I can use it as a regular phone, eg dial and receive phone calls with a local number?
I have hear 2 versions of an answer to this question & hope someone knows for real. Answer #1 is No as the versions of tablets sold in the USA do not have the calling hardware and answer #2 is probably yes with firmware mods as the hardware id the same in all versions. Anyone know the right answer?
I think all US LTE models have the phone removed, and I don't think hacking it in has worked thus far. You can sometimes do regular texting tho, but you may need to pay a little extra. As I just wrote in another thread, my SM-T719 works exactly like a phone tho, it's the international unlocked model, no carrier connection at all. Just pop in your sim and it's basically a huge smartphone I think the key here in the States is the network not recognizing the IMEI, so not knowing that it's a tablet.

Just T719, no letter at all.
Verizon s2 lte can be used as a phone. Messaging+ from Verizon can enable calls and calls can be made and received. Only downside is, it is missing the 3g band. I live in Los Angeles so I always have lte signal.
