I would love to put some themes out here on the Market to show off my photoshop and whatnot skills, but i don't have the slightest idea what the coding for all this would be.
Could someone maybe help me out, and give me a coding or tell me step by step how to make the coding for GoSMS

Basically this is a question on how to make an app.
What I want it to do:
Basic funtionality is scan a webdirectory and list files found.
Then user has option to download file and install.
Want to make one like the theme installer in ahome
Currently use the browser to do this but think an app would be neet.
Or if someone can walk me through using smali to know how they did it.
Not trying to rip the launcher but just the install from web function.
Basically learning little by little how to.
If someone can point me on a book or tutorial on how to greatly appreciate it.
Currently going to start taking a course on unix and linux so hopefully that helps me understand this more.
Motive:
To make apps to give back from what I received.
And if I can help in anyway I want to.
Ok so I've never coded in java before its all new to me and i am trying to make an app that would do the same as this (check it out here) old Motorola razr mod, the led's and screens would flash in a pattern when music was played or any vibration into the microphone. I thought this idea could make a cool app for android, so i have begun coding it, and i have pretty much got the interface setup, but when it comes to making the slider i added actually do anything i have no idea and i have no idea how to make buttons actually preform an action, also i have no idea how to go about controlling hardware on the phone like the microphone and various lights to flash. Is there any way anyone can help or give some tips i appreciate any input. Thus far my layout consist of a spinner to chose the different patterns for the lights to flash, then the start button, then a slider to choose how sensitive the microphone is to incoming vibrations. They do nothing yet cause i am not quite sure where to go from here. If you feel you can contribute any knowledge my way i will be grateful, the only coding i have done is minor html stuff although not much different than the xml code involved i have no idea what to do for the java part. Please Help.
Thank you much!
There really isn't anything one could contribute to your knowledge if you don't have experience with an object oriented language like Java. You will need to hop on Google and look at Java tutorials and possibly some object oriented design books. Once you have a good grasp on Java you can then begin learning the API's for Android that Google provides.
So if you're looking for a suggestion there is mine.
Steps you should take
Learn object oriented programming (OOP)
Learn Java
Learn the Android API
thank you, will do.
Yeah man if all you know is minor html you have a lot to learn since theres almost no relation there. I started to learn some java a couple years ago but lost any time for it but when I was learning the best way I found to learn apart from actually taking a class was AppDev. I had the J2SE and J2ME learning programs. Its as close to being in a class room as you can get. There is an instructor, exercises, tests ect. Basically the Rosetta stone for programing.
Do the Hello, World! demos on the official Android site, and take a look at the APIDemos included in the SDK- there's lots of short code samples demonstrating things like buttons and sliders.
And I disagree with the prior poster- learn Java, then OOP. The explanations of object oriented programming will just confuse you until you have some coding practice.
thank you all for the advice, its nice to see that people care enough to help out a noob around here lol
I was a noob to android awhile ago too, though now I'm finalizing a falling sand game for the market =D.
I had experience in c++, c, and html when I first started looking at android. What helped the most was going throught he examples and copying and pasting code into my code until I could figure out how stuff works. The android developers section on www.android.com helped alot, espcially the guide and refrence tabs. I also did a google code search to find the source of another android project that I could reference off of.
It also helps a lot if you have another person that you can work with, it's a lot harder to get discouraged that way.
One last suggestion, use the android-developers forums from google, there's a lot of really good help there. The stack overflow website is also really helpful if you have a general question about java, but not android in specific.
Good luck!
Will be glad to help you along your way once you start coding it. I can write an example app that does all the flashing bits for you. Would have to make it play off the internal media player though and not external audio. Not sure I could code it to do exactly what they did in the video.
Whatever you do, don't ready the notepad toturial that is way advanced and confusing. I highly recommend the hello views tutorials as well as reading the application fundamentals and all the stuff in that category of the dev guide, I forget what its called. But just reading will only get you so far, just try things one at a time. Also #android-dev on freenode ca be a ton of help if your there at the right time, but sometimes its tottaly dead....
There are a ton of awesume tutorials on android-dev's website reading the code there allways helps me understand how new ideas work. But as mentioned earlyer you really need to know oop programing and java...
Long time lurker, first time poster... I have been learning a lot really fast about customizing different aspects of the eris, but what I have been really searching hard for is a way to customize certain components to add to an already great rom. Right now I am running Eris_Official_0.8.1T2 btw. Anyways what I am really looking for is something like this forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654852 Mostly the Launcher is what I really want to change but to be able to tweak everything else would be great too. If someone knows how to do this or can point me in the right direction to maybe even learn how myself I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
unzip the rom files
system/framework/com.htc.resources
once in there go to
res/drawable-port-mdpi
the file named common_app_rosie_navbar.png
is the launcher, and thats the main thing u need to edit.
and also go to
system/apps/rosie.apk
one inside the apk go to
res/drawable-normal-mdpi
and
drawable-normal-port-mdpi
edit those to your liking
Wow I feel dumb now lol... Ive been poking around in com.htc.resources for a couple days now and completely overlooked that... Thanks alot... Only question I have now is how do I remove the word phone that overlayed on the launcher? I would post a screenshot of my home screen but since im a new user its not allowing me.
Thanks for the help
well I uploaded a photo to my album so if you feel like checking it out just go to my profile... Im starting to like the phone (icon and word) over the orb but if anyone knows how to remove the word for future reference please let me know... I am also trying to find out how to change the status bar's clock color, which searching around has brought me to editing the services.jar or services.odex file but Im still uncertain on how to do this. Any input would be great.
Im going to sound like an idiot, but i can't open the apk to edit, im missing something.. help?
Right click and open with winrar or 7zip. Once you have edited the images you will have to resign either the .apk or the rom. Depending on if you are editing the whole rom or not. Hope I was able to help
First off, I would like to say, I know nothing about themeing Android, which is why I'm posting this.
My basic knowledge is: framework.apk in /sys is where the theming is kept. I know how to pull it from my phone, but do not know how to edit/open a .apk once its on my computer. Thats it. Thats all I know when it comes to theming. I don't know how to use the SDK or command prompts(I use root explorer) or what the individual files are in the apk are.
What I do know is graphic design, which makes me want to get into this.
What I'm trying to do is take part of a theme I like and port it to a different ROM, with my own added touches. I contacted the original developer, but since he doesn't have the phone I have(Droid A855), he has no experience on how to port it himself. In fact I was able to port his theme over from a CM ROM to Bugless v0.5 using a program I found online. However I'm unable to port the theme to Bugless v0.6. I assume this because v0.6 has bits of Gingerbread in it, and things aren't lining up.
More specifically, I'm looking to do the following:
-Take a theme that works on Bugless V0.5 and get it to work on Bugless V0.6
-I'd be happy with just porting the status bar and all the icons that come with the status bar(Wifi, battery, downloading, downloading complete, sms etc...) and the notification menu with the ability for me to change a few of the icons.
-And theming the keyboard
I understand that this may be or may not be a lot of work for someone to tell me how to do this, due my 0 knowledge of anything like this.
Thanks in advance.
Dude just a search for theme Porter, there's a couple of them and there's a sticky at the top of the forum how to theme.
My sig has links that could be useful to you also.
Hope this helps.

If you read my post, you would see that a theme porter doesn't work.
Besides I'm looking more into how to do it for future reference too, the sticky at the top is lacking.
As I say there's a few theme porters, 1 may work better than another unless you've already tried them all.
Basically youll have to use apktool/manager to decompile the apk, swap out your desired images, and recompile. You may also have to edit the xml's inside the decompiled apk to change colours. The sticky can point you in the right direction to the xml's to edit.
Just be aware of. 9png images as they can create head f#$k.
Everything you need to know is already posted its just a case of finding it.
To put the new apk on your phone you can use adb or create an update zip, there's threads for these hanging about too.
Sorry I can't link but I'm sending this from my phone, hope this sheds a little light on the subject.
I would love to program ti-89 calculator, but unfortunately I have no idea how to do so, could someone write what I am trying to program!? Or teach me how to since the tutorials I have seen don't teach me how to solve my problem cuz what I am trying to programming is sot of complicated.
It consists on having a few formulas for my phisics class, and make the formulas interact with each other in order to find the missing variables. Also, write a function, and make the calculator graph it and find some things like maximums minimums, continuity etc etc.
Hope someone reads this, I will be eternally thankful !
Sorry for my grammar!
Sorry if this does not belong here, I do not know where else to post this.
i suggest u should learn Malbolge programming language first.
