few noobie android questions - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Decided to try an android phone after not touching one since the magic.
Anyway couple of questions if you don't mind.
First is... can I root the phone without affecting the warranty?
I've noticed the note is very slow at waking the screen, is there anyway to fix this?
Also it seems sluggish in certain places like the lock screen, when going between tabs on the browser etc. Any tips or tricks I can do to help this speed up?
Sure I will have more questions in time.

change ya browser and wait for ics like me rooting has its side affects and security issues specially with beginners like me. bricked 2 phones and had my phone hacked if u wanna root check a tuturial first i did find a good article on google with pro's and cons of rooting . i think the warrenty will be affected but dont take my word. hope that helps

Questions about the Nexus

Hi I am new to android and am considering switching from my iphone 3gs to a nexus one (or possible samsung captivate) It would be great if yall could answer these questions and any other helpful information you have on the phone!
1. How are the touch sensitive buttons on the bottom of the phone? Do yall ever have any trouble activating them or anything?
2. How is the battery life on this phone? I use my phone for texting ALOT, probably 5000 messages a month. Will i still be able to get a good days use out of the phone? That's all i really need because i charge it at night anyway. Also does rooting the phone and installing different ROMs or kernels improve battery life, or any other improvements over stock android? If so, which ones would you recommend for this.
3. I've read about screen burn in and some touch screen issues, have yall experienced any of these first hand?
I would be very appreciative if you could answer these questions for me

I don't but my wife does. However, she tends to mash the screen with the side of her thumb because she is a blackberry user and has long nails. As an iphone user I'd think you'd be fine. You'll LOVE Swype.

My N1 lasts all day easily, unless I'm doing something crazy like wireless tethering without a charger. That said I have a 2nd battery on a home charger because I hate (or badly forget about) leaving my phone plugged in EVER. Mostly I swap the battery in the morning on my way out. Froyo boots up fast!
3. I've read about screen burn in and some touch screen issues, have yall experienced any of these first hand?
I would be very appreciative if you could answer these questions for me.
Have not noticed any burn in issues yet. The contrast on the N1 AMOLED is a gorgeous thing to behold. It has a nicer image than my LED backlit Samsung TV, which is no chump.
However, the phone's screen struggles terribly in direct sunlight.
1. Touch buttons have been improved and are more responsive after the Froyo update.
2. Can be be good, can be bad. Should last you the day, but with heavy texting i wouldn't know. If you unlock and root it you can experiment with different roms and kernels to improve it. When i got my phone with stock 2.1 -update1 the battery was average. But then i unlocked it and flashe Cyanogen ROM and the battery got way better. So it is up to you. Unlocking and rooting voids warranty, but HTC have been kind to fix/replace phone as long as you re-flash stock to it.
3. Has happened to some. Mostly i think is due to the white status-bar that with long use on highest brightness. It can happen because it is fixed on one place allowing the white and bright burn gradually into the screen. Like the old Tv's (pre-plasma) you know. Leave it on overnight with a still image actually burns the image on the screen when turning it off. Old news really . Again, rooting it will allow you to install a black status bar thus eliminate the threat of a screen burn.
Most phones like these struggles in sunlight. But when beefing brightness to MAX it actually is "OK" to use it in the sun.
i have the slight burn in. its very faint and you would not even notice it AT ALL its that minor. but the problem is google made the status bar all white, and it never moves from that position of the screen no matter what you are doing with the phone. so because its amoled screen, those pixels wore out slightly quicker.
there is an easy way to avoid this problem, change to an all black color status bar. problem solved however you need to root in order to do this. good news is that now you can root without unlocking the bootloader, so HTC can never tell the phone was rooted, in case you were worried about voiding the warranty.
How can you root without unlocking the bootloader? And how do you change the color of the notification bar? Is there a simple themeing application like there is on jailbroken iphones?
Look in Developers section for the non-unlocking rooting thread.
(personally - I don't live in US so warranty means nothing to me, my phone was rooted after ~2 hours I took to check intact parts functionality).
Look up "Metamorph" in Apps section.
Another question, my girlfriend recently got the mytouch 3g. It works pretty decent and everything, but it is quite noticeably choppy. I would assume the nexus one is very smooth due to the 1ghz processor?

Does anyone feel left out on the android nougat update? Also info on battery saving!

Idk about you guys but I think that huawei won't care enough to update our device to 7.0 Given how things are going I'm speculating exactly that. And I wanted to know what are your thoughts on this. Also not sponsored XD but if anyone is searching for a case, get a "head" case from ebay (they feel super nice and the buttons respond so well). I may add a photo and I know the case is off topic but I'm trying to cover a few things and help out if someone is still struggling with that. Also if you feel that you device is a power hog then just unprotect a few apps from settings (that seems to work best). But you should probably go to smart and if possible stop wakelocks with Xposed if you have it installed (if you don't knw what that is then kindly look around the threads if you want to install it or not).

How to enable high brightness mode on pixel4 xl without rooting?

I heard that the maximum brightness on the pixel 4 XL is over 600 nits. The only way to my knowledge to achieve this is by going into high brightness mode settings. Is there a way to enable d settings without rooting the device? Has anybody been able to figure out whether the setting is accessible without root? Or if Google intends on adjusting the display brightness algorithms in a future update? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Damn at this point 'm really tempted to pay someone who lives in Canada to root my device for me lol.
Everywhere in Canada only sells unlocked devices now so I know my new pixel is unlocked. But in order to get the most benefits of this device it seems like I'll need to root it which sucks.
The only thing holding me back on rooting the device apart from my lack of knowledge is that everyone who has routed their device has had several issues with flashing and bootloop crap. And they won't get any of the it's updates anymore. Otherwise if rooted I could maximize the potential of this device with the display brightness mod and the camera mod. I'm particularly keen on trying to get the camera mod to work with gcam px.
Hopefully Google figures out a solution and is able to apply higher brightness levels in a future update. Thanks for the response I appreciate it.

Well, I don't really think that rooting the P4XL is very difficult at all. There are several threads on the topic in these forums. As far as updating every month, that takes little more than a pc, sdk platform-tools, a factory image, or, side loading an OTA, and a little time to learn the procedure. I've been updating that way for several years without issues, or getting root again. Just all depends on what your willing to do to make your device what you want it to be

fair enough thank you for sharing. I appreciate understanding that others don't have much issue with this throughout their experience. Unfortunately I guess I'm on the complete other side of the spectrum because I have no experience with routing whatsoever and I would like to get my device rooted to get the maximum benefits but I use a Mac and I don't know if the procedure is compatible with Macs.
And it's times like these where I wish I was a bit more knowledgeable I've seen all the threads but every thread that I've seen also has a plethora of users who have got any boot loops or had some other issue and it seemed like there was more complaints about the problems rather than actual success and those threads which is also off-putting. Otherwise I was naive enough to think rooting a simple.

Note 9 one ui 2.1

Hello Folks !!!
ONE UI 2.1 is coming to Note 9 in JUNE as confirmed by Samsung Moderators.
They are working hard on it to make it stable for us.
Let me know in the comments what you want from ONE 2.1 on your NOTE 9.
Happy Waiting
Main one for me would be the Deep Sleeping Apps so I can finally have that screwed up Skype and not destroy my battery life
Other than that Single Take would be nice although I don't use the camera that much.

the real change i hope they could bring to our Note9 is a REAL FIX for green display happening for no reason that many note9 owners are facing since March update.

Help disabling or finding another workaround for the recent apps screen due to its use in getting around productivity app blockers.

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, but I have a problem that seems too specific to be able to look for advice anywhere else. I have a Samsung S10 5g with Exynos SoC.
I have ADHD that can severely hamper my ability to do focused work when I can't eliminate distractions. Life has changed to the point that I can't get around without a smart phone (I couldn't log into my work account without using 2FA on a mobile app as the only option, for example), but I recently discovered that the paid version of BlockSite actually did quite a good job of locking down my phone with the option to unlock it by a password known only to my wife whenever that's needed.
That worked well for me for several months, and productivity soared as did the quality of my relationship. The problem is, the app has to be airtight. When ADHD brain pain sets in, nothing else matters to me more than breaking into my phone to mindlessly browse and ease the pain. And after a few months I was regularly spam tapping on apps on my recently viewed apps screen to try and force it to stay open. It fell apart completely when I accidentally opened split screen mode and realised that the BlockSite block screen only takes up half the screen. Since then, the app has been useless and I tend to browse in those difficult times as much as I ever used to.
It doesn't matter how I accomplish it, rooting or otherwise, but id like to find a way to completely disable recent apps functionality to bring BlockSite back to being functional for me.
I'm currently seeking treatment through other means, but it would be a huge help to me regardless if this were possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
