Wired Magazine is out on the Nook Newsstand, but it's Nook Tablet only.

Is this a 1.4 thing? Would like to give B&N some money, but apparently they don't want it.

Just wanted to let you know that the Overdrive reader for public library ebooks works on the Nook STR.
Here are some miscellaneous tips:
Some libraries don't offer free ebooks. I live in California, and went to the library in the county south of where I live to get a membership in a library that has free ebooks.
I use Opera Mini with Overdrive on the Nook STR. This is for browsing books and downloading them. Overdrive just reads them.
For the most part I find it better to browse on my laptop using the same account, check out on the laptop, then use Opera Mini to download on the Nook STR.
I've been saving the downloaded files to the Adobe Digital Editions folder on the SD card instead of to the default directory provided by Opera Mini.
You need a free Adobe Digital Editions account to use Overdrive.
Overall, this system is considerably more cumbersome than using the Nook (or Kindle) ecosystem, but I love the free pricing!
I'll second this. Overdrive works great.

Isn't this the Nook forum?
Unless I'm wrong, the OverDrive apps use a different DRM than the native Nook Reader.
I put the OverDrive app on my Nook so that I could download books from my library directly.
It didn't seem that I could open those books in the native Reader.
I find the OverDrive reader to be more disruptive with page turns.
A tangent: I'd like to know exactly how the native Reader does page turns.
Anyone know why Kindle Fire doesn't have the Overdrive app in it?

Try Aldiko, download using Opera and open using Aldiko. I find it better than Overdrive. The latest Aldiko does not seem to work for me, but an older one from the aldiko website works.

Are there any privacy or other concerns that anyone has experienced from reading books from other sources with the nook app?
I am thinking of reverting my mom back to stock (she only uses it for reading) and she wants to be able to buy books fron barnseandnoble but doesn't want to loose her current books.

I still have my nook with stock with 1.4.3 update and run cm7/cm9 from sd (8gb sd for cm9, 16gb sd for cm7). I have books on it from other sources and used calibre to convert them on my computer to open on the Nook. My son has a Kindle and I have converted his books for the nook with no major problems after installing kindle software and calibre (with the plugins for kindle) on the computer. If her books open in the nook app then they shoud work in stock.
Anyone have any experiences with Plex on the Nook HD or HD+ they'd like to share? Plex on my rooted Nook Tablet has been a little disappointing, with the app being pretty hit or miss as to what and how smoothly it will play back. I was hoping I could stream through the web client, but won't play anything back through Dolphin browser.
Does it work any better on the HD or HD+?
Wondering as well. Getting one for my daughter. I know it runs bad as a win8 app so not holding my breath.
I bit the bullet and got a Nook HD with the Staples deal today and bought Plex from the Nook Store. It actually runs pretty well, much better than on CM7 on Nook Tablet.
However, the softkeys bottom chrome doesn't fully go away in full screen (turns black), which is quite annoying. I hope this is fixed in the future or at least made optional.

That turning the bottom bar black is not a bug. It is called "lights out" and is a feature of android. B&N designed the bottom bar to not go away with ordinary apps so some apps use lights out to make it look like it is gone.
Sent from my Nook HD+ Running CM10 on SD
Hi all, new Nook HD owner here with a 2 day old nook now running the new 2.1 firmware.
I've also purchased a cheap nook simple touch but haven't received the order yet .
I've tried a book from the nook store at what page I'm on is synced between the nook and the iphone app, so will be for the eink reader too.I guess
Now, I have a number of DRM free epubs that I've tried copying over using usb and using dropbox and I can read the book, but the page number doesn't sync between iphone nook or my nook hd.
Do you know if sideloaded ebooks should sync, or do you know if there is a way to do it in any way?
I really want to use the built reader rather than an app because I love having big book cover art on the desktop, but I think you can't do this with an app
I am definitely newer to this, scoured the site and everything regarding miracast is pretty old. Looking to cast to a fire stick 1st gen, or Xbox one. Please helpĀ”
I have never been able to get it to work on the HD+, either. It works OK on my LG devices (running stock firmware).

I am running lnos_ovation-ota-NMF26Q.170104 on my HD+ and can mirror the Nook screen (audio+video) to my Chromecast using the "Cast" button in Quick Settings (note that the "Cast" button is not included by default and needs to be added by editing the Quick Settings).
With some apps like Netflix and YouTube I can choose between the Chromecast or directly to the Panasonic TV ("Viera 60"). With native casting and some other apps like NBC Media the only choice is Chromecast.

OK, thank you, I'll have to check out the chromecast. Thought I'd be doing myself a favor with my kindle and fire stick for mirroring, but that's been a pain in the ass and they are made by the same company. Very Moody. Then I got handed this nook HD+ and like it, hated the b&n os, but that was easily remedied.
Now, when I try to mirror\cast, its like the nook doesn't even try to scan for devices, its like "piss on it, I'm not even going to look", so is that normal? sans the Chromecast \app allowed mirroring...
Thank you guys for your help guys

Here is a brief description of various competing casting "standards": http://www.howtogeek.com/177145/wir...ed-airplay-miracast-widi-chromecast-and-dlna/ -- it helps explain why certain combinations of source/sink don't mix.
