Hello everyone.
I am in search of an app that can HIDE / BLOCK CALLER ID IN OUTGOING CALLS. This one is preferably for Indian users.
Hope to get answers soon
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Hmmm, an app wouldn't do this, although I guess it could if it placed the call for you. Really you would need a feature code for this. Common one is *67 followed by the number you're dialing. Your best bet is a google search like "sprint feature code" but using your carrier. You could also try using the word "star" in place of feature. Some carriers will not have all features of their phone system enabled.
Edit: I guess an app could possibly do it, you could also search "anonymous call" in the market to see.

Using Gingerbread or earlier:
1) Go to Settings
2) Call settings
3) Additional settings
4) Wait until it initializes the options
5) Caller ID
6) Hide number
7) go back and you're done
Using ICS:
1) Open Phone app
2) Click on Menu
3) Settings
4) Scroll down, click on Additional settings
5) Caller ID
6) Hide number
7) go back and you're done
I had a hard time finding that option in ICS (either on my Nexus S with ICS rom or on my Galaxy Nexus), so I used an app for a short while to hide my caller ID. There's quite a few on the market, but there's a free one which works great for me on ICS, it's called "myCallerID). I don't know if it will work for every country/carriers, but here's a link to it...

Using Gingerbread or earlier, it's fairly easy as there's a built-in option in Android.

Using ICS, I can't find that option anymore (either on my Nexus S with ICS rom or on my Galaxy Nexus), so I now have to rely on an app. There's quite a few on the market, but there's a free one which works great for me on ICS, it's called "myCallerID). Yes I have a Galaxy Nexus, and it's awesome! I must admit I'm quite happy I've sold my SGS2 to buy this.

FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND YOU NEED TO BE ROOTED
Ok so I found a couple of web pages that spoke of finding hidden
settings in the devices build.prop. But, even with this hack it will
still not make calls or receive them. Me being me i didnt even wait
I went straight to it and saw the phone options disabled.
Its located in the /system folder ,
I used root explorer so edit the build.prop , look for a line that says
ro.telephoney-disabled=true and you want to change that disabled
to enabled so it should read ro.telephoney-enabled=true
after this root exelporer makes a backup of the original , after that give
the streak a reboot and when in the dell stage UI you will see the phone
icon at the bottom now...
as we know theres nothing you can really do with it at the moment but, I have been looking over at the galaxy tab phone hack and that lead me to looking into the file system and I a couple of things like in the /system/framework folder there is a .jar file named "com.oem.networksetting.jar" in there it contains a classes.dex file that when opened in a text editor I see things like "networksetting.java OFFSET" and "areacode OFFSET" just a lot of things OFFSET ...any iedas any thoughts are welcome

to use dell streak 7 as a phone
Hi im using streak 7 wifi+3g unlocked version
I have found the solution to use streak 7 as a phone without using any root, just go to market and install apk installer, then find the attachment file Viber_2.1.6.632.apk on this post download it and save it on your streak 7 internal storage and find it with file explorer it will be in the download folder of your streak 7, this works also with all tablets that cant install viber via market and install it and follow the setup process after that you will be able to use your own carrier gsm number to call even international calls by using your data plan, try to add me on your phone book and call my number for testing +255776553398. or +255773044899 all your phone book contacts who are using viber you will see them and you can call them and sms them for free and then can call you and sms you.
Please donate if this works for you im sure this will work 100%
This is a method to turn your n7 (or any other tablet) into a fully fledged soft phone with FREE incoming and outgoing calls all over the us.
This has the benefit over groove ip / sipdroid in that it still allows you to receive calls in Gmail. In addition, I found the call quality /delay in groove ip to be AWFUL.. This call quality is on par or better than tmobile wifi calling.
-----
This guide presupposes that you use Google voice. This will work on ANY ROM as long as it has been deodexed.
I know it sounds complicated, but it's really pretty simple if you follow the steps... And pretty foolproof. It took me about 15minutes from beginning to end to do all of this.
Step one: configure incoming:
1) set up a free SIP account with Callcentric.com . Once it is set up, click to 'add features' and add a free incoming number(note: if you don't want to pay for 911 services, you have to say that you're not in the US).
3) setup a sip app on your tablet (i like csipsimple.... Free in the play store) and connect it to your callcentric, account (user name is your callcentric sip number... Should start with 1777)
4) go to Google voice on your computer, go to settings, and add a new number. Add the number you were given by Callcentric (the phone number, not the 1777 number) . It will call and confirm you. It should ring through to your tablet! You now will receive incoming calls to your tablet! (note: if it can't 'hear' the numbers you are dialing, hang up, increase the volume on your tablet, and try again)
Now, let's get you set up for outgoing calls.
1) download voice+ from the play store and connect it to your Google voice account.
2) download exdialer from the play store (dialer one doesn't work... I don't know why)
Now you have two options. You can:
A) go here and use this nifty utility to modify your ROM for you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877891 (thanks Mateorod!)
or B) modify your framework-res.apk to make the tablet think that it is voice capable so that voice+ will be triggered when you make a call (this is what the above utility does for you).
1) download the framework-res editor that is attached here and unzip it
2) copy your framework-res.apk from your ROM (found in the /system/framework folder) and put it in the 'place-framework-res-here' folder
3) double click on 'run me' and decompile your framework-res
4) in the 'files-to-edit' folder, click on framework-res.apk>res>values>bools (edit the bools.xml file)
5) find the line for 'voice capable' and change 'false' to 'true'. save and close the file
6) in the framework Flasher that you opened in step 3, choose '2' and compile a new apk
7) choose option '3' and sign the apk.
8) choose option 4 and create an update.zip
9)flash the update.zip that you made
10) click 'thank' for my help in making this guide
Note: if you are getting an error about "echo off", you probably don't have java jre installed. Install that, and you should be good to go.
Done! You now have a fully working soft phone!
bongostl said:
Hope this is useful to others...
Flash this in recovery, and it will enable "voice capable" in your framework-res.apk, which will allow you to use google voice callback.
In addition, it will allow you to configure a sip set up using the native implementation (you will need to change your dpi to 320 for it to show up, but you can switch it back afterwards)
Hope this helps!
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4nxPgKYHIDjanlYaWM3TTFleDg
(same as the file attached)
Note: this was based on the framework-res.apk from the AOKP nightly from 8/15. Flash at your own risk. If it does work for you on another ROM, please post here and let us know! If it fails and your tablet won't boot, just flash another copy of your ROM and it will fix the change)

You made the portal. http://www.xda-developers.com/android/make-some-google-voice-phone-calls-on-your-nexus-7/
i'm guessing this is pc only?
I'm asking on behalf of a friend, and don't have direct access to the phone to diagnose the problem, so I thought maybe asking here would help. My only information was that their friend was trying to set a custom ringtone (downloaded via Zedge) on their Motorola Atrix (didn't specify whether 4G or HD, I'm only presuming it's a newer phone). However, rather than the ringtone actually playing when someone calls, it just announces the name of the caller instead, with no ringtone otherwise.
Any ideas?

Is there any way you can walk me through how to disable that? I'm sort of doing this long-distance, the person I'm helping is in Texas while I'm in Georgia currently. They're either new to their phone or just new to smartphones in general. Since my only phone is an iPhone currently (and my prior Android was a Captivate), I don't know the ins-and-outs of Motorola's phones. I assumed maybe it was a "drive mode" or something like some of the older phones had.
Aha, I think I found it: "Menu > Call Settings > Caller ID Readout > Ring Only," if I've done my research right. Thanks, though.
For all you gear owners out there, after months of using it, would you still recommend it? I'm sure a lot of people are still on the fence about spending 300 dollars for a watch

Yes, you can sideload anything - even with stock rom. Latest firmware+gear manager means you get notifications from all apps on phone
By using null, you get more of a stock android experience instead of a small/limited menu system from stock touchwiz launcher
Null_ offers stock plus everything in the features list. And if you don't like it, just flash back to stock - simple
Let's just say that I've been testing out a Nexus 5 and because of null, will be returning back to my s4 and the compatibility with gear
1) Time
2) Weather
3) Notifications (I almost never hear or feel my phone notifications.)
4) Phone Calls (Making calls when my hands are doing other things, driving, eating, typing, gaming, etc.)
5) Showing off
It does so much more than my old watch!
And yes, Null_ will make it much more useful, but I did EVERYTHING (root and flash ROM) last night before bed so IDK. Battery seems to be unchanged.

If you are not on a custom ROM I believe that's what it does. I can't remember. With Null_ you can read the message and it gives you the option to open on the phone. I believe it gives you the option either way. I am trying to remember because I was on US stock version (Not sure about the number) then flashed UK version (V700XXUAMK7) but was on it for like 5 minutes before flashing Null_.

I've not tried. It requires internet access though so would need to setup Bluetooth tethering

Close. null_ has no effect on the notifications - they behave as they do in stock. Some apps show full notifications and no need to view on device, but option is there

Oh true. I just watched a video and yea it's the same. Since I went from US version to UK version then Null_. I wasn't on the UK version long enough to notice the notifications. That's why I thought Null_ made this possible. This isn't the case for those not on the updated UK version. Before flashing the UK version my Gear would only show who it came from and the option to view on device.

1) time
2) notifications
3)hands free phoning
4)run keeper
5)taking photos (hold finger over speaker to be sneaky )
6)media control (cool if you got some bluetooth speakers)
I have just had it for a few days now and it is more useful than I thought it would be.

This is a modified dialer apk, and root is NOT required. All credit for this goes to those mentioned in the original OP.
I know this is in the S6 forums, but it is confirmed (by me) working on G5.

Works great. Thank you
Does this app actually make the call or is it just a dialer that opens the LG app soon as you hit send? I'm just looking for a solution to the stock app because it turns hot pink when you hang up... It's the only thing about this phone that I don't like. It's driving me crazy ?

Goto Settings > Apps > *Touch the 3 dots in the top right corner* and select Configure Apps > Default Apps > Phone App > *Select the Google Dialer. It will be listed as simply "Phone"
I have not tested this for incoming calls just yet, but for outgoing, it will skip the stock dialer completely. Hope this helps.

Yes this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the help. No more ugly dialer. And it also works for incoming for me. Actually, the entire app works like it should - settings and all.

Good Good... Glad to hear it works as it should for you.
so no caller ID though... I wonder if the Tmobile Name ID feature will still work
Well standard caller ID works.. I will have to wait till an unknown number calls me to test the rest.
The latest version that was in the actual thread crashes for me. The version in the OP works fine. Thanks!

Same here.
Stupid question maybe, but what exactly do you find wrong with the stock G5 dialer app, and what makes the Google dialer more desirable?
TIA

It's more visually pleasing? For people who really want a stock Google experience, it's one more thing to get you closer to that. With this and the Contacts app installable from APK Mirror, I'm officially using all the stock Marshmallow apps for everything but my Exchange email.

I find the LG dialler requires more finger presses. But I'm coming from the Song Xperia dialler.
New call: Go to dialler. Possibly not on the call tab so click that. Start to type name and some suggests come up. Click on the [v]. Select the person/number to call. And now the bit that annoys me, press the call button. If I click on number why not just call them, why show number and wait for me to press another button?
Call back: So I missed a call. Go to dialler, go to call logs, click on the call I missed. Show the contact details. WTF? So now I click the phone icon and call. Yes I know there is a little call icon but I'm used to clicking a phone number and it dials it. Not have to locate one tenth of the call log line to start a call.
Anyway, I'll get used to it but I do think I have to do more work for simple calls versus other diallers.
Wow. That is as clear and concise an answer as I could ask for. I wish my wife would answer simple questions like that, but I have to ask her twenty follow-up questions just to get an answer to the first one! So, I do see what you mean, and I have found it at least a little annoying myself. I guess I just accepted it as the way it is. Never really thought to look for a different dialer, but by golly it just might be worth a look now. Thanks for taking the time to give such a thorough answer. I hope you type much faster than I do, but I use Swype keyboard.
Does the original Dialer needs to be uninstalled first before installing Google-Dialer 3.00?
-> If yes, where to get that original Dialer found and uninstalled?
How about if Google-Dialer will be updated in future to 3.xx?
- Auto-Update or manual update needed?
- Link to webside to be able to always have the latest version installed?
Thx
It's crashing on me. Where can I get one that works?

Ive had no issues with this. Been using it for a week or so & has been flawless.
Also been working for me with no issues. Combined with the Google Contacts app and then Calendar, Clock, and Calculator, throw an icon pack into Nova, and I seriously feels like I'm stock. Very very happy.
as soon as i click on the icon i get "Unfortunately, Phone has stopped" message.
There are several versions out there. It would be helpful if ya'll would specify which version is or is not working. I am running the 2.05.07_rc4 with no issues. I haven't tried the 3.0 version yet.
