Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can not flash the boot loader with the boot loader being locked (the uppercase "R").
Since it seems the genuine loader is present you better look for a FTF bundle without the loader and kernel to flash back the stock ROM.
And it seems like he didnt root his phone. You should root your phone and unlock bootloader first if its not too late..

Nope, since all of this happens in flash mode the state of the ROM (rooted, non-rooted, crashed, ...) isn't even of any greater importance. The only thing that's important is that the boot loader environment still works (for running flash mode).
I think the "UNROOTABLE" error Flashtool gives comes from the circumstance that the partition where the loader and kernel is stored can't be rooted due to the boot loader being locked.
Unpacking the FTF and correctly re-bundling without the boot loader / kernel parts should actually work to have a plain ROM-only FTF restoration file.
Same goes for the X8 - there are some FTF's WITH the boot loader (aka "baseband") parts and there's at least one where it's just the ROM.
Happened to me once on an X10. Wouldn't even show the Sony Ericsson logo. Constantly vibrated. I thought I had bricked it.
I tried flashing the baseband again & it came back to life.

[Q] Kernel flashing problem

Everytime I try to flash nAa kernel to my xperia x8, I get error on flashtool saying that I have to turn on "Unknown sources and debugging". Im 100% sure I did that, and still have this problem. Anyone knows anything about this?
Which version of FlashTool do You use? IMO 0.2.9.1 is better to flash kernels than newer versions.
And second thing - Don't know why You have that error, cause kernel is being installed in flash mode, when the device is off. Maybe the file extension is wrong? (when I download nAa kernel it's always with .zip extension, so I have to rename it as .ftf file).
My typical log looks like this:
06/019/2012 14:19:20 - INFO - Flashing kernel.sin
06/019/2012 14:19:22 - INFO - Flashing finished.

Did you unlock the boot loader?
If not - check the date code on the sticker below the battery first!
11W29 or later (11W30, 11W31, 11W32...): Better forget it
11W28 or older (11W27, 11W26, 11W25...): Should be safe for boot loader unlock.
Find nelkip's EASY Boot Loader Unlocking Guide and proceed carefully.

Provide the s1tool output or it didn't happen.

Highly probable that you have a problem with the Android device drivers.
Download the drivers from here and try to install them (they are for manual installation - INF files, not a Setup.exe).
Alternatively install PCC, see if an update is available, re-try.

This is kinda tricky and the drivers should already be at the same version like the ones from the SE developer link ...
In short (to prevent writing a book):
You open the Device Manager. Press WIN+R and type devmgr.msc to start the Device Manager.
In the menu on top find the "Show all devices" entry and select it.
Now, in the categories on the right side you simply look through the list of devices and whenever you find a "Sony Ericsson" or "SEMC" device you right-click and select "Update driver...".
In the following dialog you say you want to install a driver from your computer, point Windows to the directory to where you extracted the ZIP and let it try to install. If Windows says that the device is already up-to-date then the driver was already at the latest version.

[Solved]Bootloader unlocking problems: FAILED (remote: Command did not succeed)

Hi Guys,
So i bought a second hand XZ(C6603) as an upgrade from my XS. The previous owner told me he had unlocked the bootloader and then again relocked it(he used the BLU function in flashtool). Yesterday i wanted to unlock it again but somehow i cant get it unlocked anymore. In the service menu it says: "Bootloader unlock allowed" YES meaning i can unlock it.
I've used flashtool and adb both with the same result:
14/055/2013 22:55:31 - INFO - Device connected in fastboot mode
14/055/2013 22:55:36 - INFO - Unlocking phone using key XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

14/055/2013 22:55:36 - INFO - finished. total time: 0.035s
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX= the unlock code i got from Sony
I've all ready tried whiping & reflashing it with the flashtool(.423 frimware) and also repaired it with PC companion but after that i still get the same results
Anyone got some advise for me? Could it be a driver related isue(btw i'm on win 7 64)?
Are you sure you correctly type the key? I also was in this situation, but after ctrl+c/ctrl+v the code more accurate the unlocking went ok...

Do you have any branding on the phone from your carrier, are you sure rooting hasn't changed status to yes by accident.
Are your drivers correctly installed (load up flashtool and connect your phone in fastboot and it will say device connecter in fastboot)

This is a common occurrence @kistigun so it could be just that (although it doesn't allow unlockable Phones to be unlocked unfortunately), but as you were informed it has been unlocked before you shouldn't be having any issues. Have you tried doing it manually using command prompts?

If you have tried command prompt way and you are 100% sure drivers are installed then you have a locked bootloader

Xperia v boot problem

Hi, i have xperia V (protoype). It was working fine, until i decide to put new Android (i was 4.0.4 on it). I don't have much of experience in flashing, but i did success already with my two other phones (ARC and P ), so i thought this time will be easy as usually. but...
phone was dead as stone..i spend more than week to trying all methods what i was able to find. now it's a big mess in my head and my PC, but now i made phone to start in recovery menu. thats all. tried install different roms, cyanomodgens-nothing... it just shows me SONY-->cyanomodgen and freez. at the moment flashtool can't see my phone.
if anyone can help me what to do( step by step), how to make this phone working again -i will be very happy person.
sorry for english.

i can't tell you exactly how i did it- i did it with flashboot (boot.img or something), don't remember. didn't touch the phone for week, because i don't know what and how to do. as i said, i need step-by-step advice from beginning. if anyone will help me-i will be sooo happy
1. Is your bootloader unlocked - and did you test if your BL is/was unlockable?
If BL is unlocked correctly:
2. Try to flash another kernel in recovery, such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223534
Then try to install a CM-ROM for example.

That sounds strange - because you said that service menu allowed unlocking bootloader. To be honest, I don't know what happens if try to unlock a bootloader which is not unlockable.
Regarding flashing: Take the NKernel from my link, open the ZIP file and extract the kernel.elf.
Then flash elf file via fastboot: fastboot flash boot kernel.elf
And then try to get into recovery and then try to flash a CM ROM like this from your external SD: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/39793/cm-10.1.3-RC1-tsubasa.zip (10.1.3-RC1).

It's in #7 where I asked you the first time to try another kernel!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52279445&postcount=7
Try installing the ROM with NKernel recovery, otherwise you can flash the boot.img from the CM ROM (inside zip, also via fastboot). Can you install the ROM with one of the kernels?

That's normal, you can't boot a CM Rom with NKernel (which is for stock 4.1). You always need the right kernel for every Rom (and Rom generation - a CM 11 kernel won't boot with CM 10.2).
It was just to test if recovery is working. But you say it doesn't respond? Of course tochscreen is not working in CWM! You have to navigate with Vol up/down and enter via power button. I hope you know that?!
Go ahead and try different kernels/Roms. Like this: http://aokp.co/devices/tsubasa
Install boot.img from zip via fastboot, go into recovery and try to install the AOKP Rom from your externel SD card. Does recovery work? Can you install Rom?

thanks for helping and not leaving me alone with that head pain
p.s. just installed boot.img, but when tried to run recovery-just dead androbot appears on the screen
Sorry, but I've got no idea.
I never had the problem that a flashed kernel's recovery is not working - and I don't know why. Sorry.
Must have to do with the Flashtool message that your bootloader cannot be unlocked. There is sth. really strange...
