or they don't work on Gingerbread?
None of the main 4.0 .apk's like gmail or mms are compatible with gingerbread. However, the ICS music and plus one .apk's will install and work fine
When i try to add Go Mail Widget it results in a crash, i think it doesnt know how to handle de mail.apk from ICS
Thanks, i figured so, was too lazy to try.
although i did try "Notes" app from Miui ROM (because i liked it)....also doesnt work on CM-builds
all google official applications should work fine !!

The default SMS app in HTC Hero ROMs, to put it simply, sucks, especially since the 2.1 update, it keeps going up to the top and when opening the keyboard it doesn't scroll up either, scrolling is incredibly slow and the keyboard is quite laggy in this app.
I'm not keen on any of the ones in the market, specifically ChompSMS and Handcent (Chomp has ads and is slow, Handcent is slow).
I run a rooted HTC Sense ROM and just want the standard SMS app, it's fast and simple. I tried Froyo Elelinux (on the development forum but can't post link because I'm a new user and it's recognised as an outside link for some reason) the other day and the SMS app in that is great, from memory it's the same as the 2.1.
Does anyone know where I can grab this in APK form that'll install on my rooted but otherwise standard HTC ROM?
Thanks!
I too hate the Sense Messaging app. I use Handcent though, I do like the Message app from 2.2 it's quick and clean. If I find the stock 2.1 version I'll post it here.
EDIT: Here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=367490&d=1280204330
Thanks! But it doesn't install. I suppose I need to remove the Sense one first?
Edit: I used adb to rename Mms.odex in /system/app and then used adb push to overwrite stock mms app with the AOSP Mms.apk. It's so much better only problem is it doesn't seem to go into landscape mode...
I have searched everywhere but can't find anything,
I would love to use the stock calendar app on doc's rom or any other rom for that matter. But i'm not able to find anything that works.
Does anyone know if this is even possible?
I've read that if you use the aosp mail app, the camera fc's.
But nothing about the calendar app.
I would love to know a bit more, I can't imagine it's that difficult.
There is a thread for stock eclair apps and I remember using them once, they seemed to work I recall.
If anyone knows a way I would love to know, I'm getting pretty frustrated with samsungs aproach to the calendar

Any idea how to install aosp calendar?
It's in the market.
You'll have to uninstall the Samsung one first, then reboot.
Sent from my Captivate.
No. The AOSP calendar is NOT in the Market.
I have the same question: how to get a working AOSP calendar in Froyo???
But in this strange sgs community, everybody seems to love so much the TouchWizz Calendar!
Bllblb. It's ugly, not practical, and you cannot read the events titles directly from the week view.
I succeeded installing the Calendar from a CM6.1 Nexus1 Rom. But not the Calendar sync. So it works, but you cannot choose wich calendar to hide.
So. I'm not responsible for nothing, but you can try what I have done.
Download the rom here http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/files/file/187-update-cm-611-n1-signedzip/
Extract from system/app/calendar.apk
-> Or instead of 1. et 2. you can just download from here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18608283/Calendar.apk
On your sgs, use Root Explorer (or ADB if you know how). Delete (make backup first) TWcalendar.apk in system/app/ in your device.
Push the calendar.apk from the rom into system/app/ in your device.
Install it.
Reboot.
You're done. As I have said, the app works, but it Force Closes whenever you try to get in menu/more/calendars.
If somebody have an idea to get he whole thing working... It'd be great!

I don't think this is true either, where did you get this info from may I ask?
Thanks Judim but I have also tried that, had the same problem.
I'm using "Touch Calendar Free" at the moment, it's not as good as google's but still beats the living sh** out of samsungs...
Ah well if this thread bumps we'll just have to wait for CM7 to arrive or buy a Nexus S.
The first way is a bit cheaper though
Try also Business Calendar Beta from the Market. It could be a replacement waiting for a CM7.
I see you're also coming from the Hero... Small device but great CM roms
Cheers!
Here is an AOSP calendar app that I'm using on my Vibrant. It does have the fc issue when selecting more calendars, but does not have the dark bar at the top blocking week one of the month. It does have a skewed transparency up there, but its a mere annoyance and won't affect anything. Push to system/app. Oh the icon is ginger-green to match my rom, but thats all that I changed with the apk.
Hi,
the email app from official sense 2.3 had really good functionality (like search on server, respond inline).
is it possible to find and install that email apk to CM7 7.0.3?

Sorry but this app belongs to the Sense framework and won't work in CM7.
Is there any email app that we can use? ive searched on Market and no luck.. the CM7 one seemed fine tell i turned on my old cappy and realized what i was missing. (givin it was the pheonix rom) but the email on this (atleast CM7, not sure of sense) lacks alot of features. and my corp email comes in as just text.. where on the cappy it was full HTML.
I switched to the Liberty Rom which is awesome, but I loved my stock motoblur calendar and keyboard. Does anyone know how to find them or get them back?
Steve
calendar .apk here, keyboard don't have ready yet
Sweet, thanks!
Wont install... what am I doing wrong?
non market app's allowed to install in your settings?
that's the only thing I can think of
No, I can install non market apps, I wonder if its the Liberty Rom. I tried to restore my calendar through Titanium and it wouldn't do it either. Oh well, I downloaded a different calendar which I am okay with for now.
Steve
could be, I know a lot of these blur items require other parts of blur to work
I was wondering if anyone has successfully ported Gingerbread Stock Applications onto their ICS Phone? I want to bring the stock Clock, Calendar, and Calculator apps from Gingerbread onto my ICS Phone. I love ICS and all, but I think google took a huge step backwards in those specific apps compared to Gingerbread. The clock no longer has a stop watch or timer, the calculator layout from GB was much easier and the history of calculations was quick and simple. And the calendar from GB was just much simpler and easier to use.
If anyone has done this please let me know
Thanks
Are you referring to AOSP gingerbread or Samsung gingerbread? There are ICS ROMs that have some Samsung apps ported. Try Doc's Master ICS
Sent from my ICS Samsung Captivate
Im talking about just regular stock gingerbread apps, so I guess that would be samsung gingerbread apps. Up until the last few months Ive used stock gingerbread that came with the phone. Couple months ago I rooted my phone and flashed ICS on there and have loved it since, but these apps are the only thing I miss from Gingerbread. If I downloaded Tibu onto my moms Samsung Fascinate (stock, brand new) and backed up those apps as .apk files and copied them over to my phone, would I be able to install them on my phone even though Im using a samsung captivate with aokp milestone 5 flashed? Or would that give me issues?
That makes sense, since stock ICS isn't going to have those apps. As I said, Doc's Master ICS has a lot of those. I'm pretty sure you will have trouble installing them manually. There may be a way that I don't know of though.

Thanks. I might give it a try, I really dont like the ICS versions of those apps.
Hey Bdithug, I was wondering if you found a solution to this issue? I just hate the stock calculator from ICS also, but the one from Gingerbread was great. I have golaucher and APW widgets installed so I'm using their clock and calendar which are pretty good...
Let me know if it worked out for you installing the stock gingerbreag calculator apk onto your ICS phone...
Tx
I tried it. It didnt work. I downloaded apk extractor to send the .apk file from a stock fascinate on gb. when i tried installing the .apk file on my ics cappy it wouldnt let me because of the apps with the same name. so i uninstalled the ics calculator and calendar with tibu, and tried again, and still wouldnt let me. i just i have to resort to a 3rd party app from the market. still dont know why google would have removed features from the calculator app in the first place, thats not usually how updates to apps work. the calendar app for ics is a complete joke. still have not found a quick easy, simple yet attractive calendar app for android.
i have tried Doc's Master ICS, i didnt like it 'cuz i felt it a little unstable, now i'm using Slim ICS, happy whith it, but i was wondering how can i do to install the Samsung Stock Camera APK?? or another one like that???

I run Nostalgia 6.2 and happy with most of the apps. It's based on Slim ICS, but has all the things that I was missing in Slim
I like most of the apps that came with Nostalgia. I did install RealCacl to replace the stock one. RealCal is more of a scientific calculator.
Still getting used to the blue on dark theme. Especially in some html Gmail messages it really gets me
I stuck with aokp and installed acalendar app, easy calculator, and stop watch & timer.
Much better apps than ics stock calendar, calculator and clock
