I have asked this before but being warned for posting in the wrong forum so I open this new thread.
My OB is currently on CM7. I wanna proceed with Official Update but somebody told me that It has high risk of bricking my CM7 phone.
Can somebody provide me the preliminary steps so I can do Official Update safely?
thanks
But is there official update? I think there is only nightly v20 and kangs fron xda users...

You can "downgrade" your system to Stock ROM Froyo, then you can connect it to LG Update. Is that what you want? CMIIW.
Do u have a nandriod backup?since updating from stock rom should be no problem...
reboot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cahce, wipe cahce partition
turn off the phone, take out the battery..download R&D test tool, windows enabler and the kdz u want to flash. start R&D test tool , press and hold the vol up button plug the usb to the phone it show that u are software update mode..select the kdz click ces web upgrade test then upgrade start...
thats the way i went back from cm7 to stock v10g
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275315
its not so risky...it was about 10-15min
On cm7 the b2c tool want recognize your phone, and the kdz will not too! JUST if you turn off your phone!
Thank u so much donjamal! That's the help I'm looking for! BTW can I just update to stock online and skip the KDZ part?
thanks

u can not do it online, cuz if u use the b2c tool it looks like it recognize your phone but if u press upgrade, there will be an error message something like this: connection error between the pc and the phone... thats the reason why u sohuld turn off your phone and use R&D test tool
and of course all the drivers needs to be installed on your pc
What I mean is immediate online update without R&D and KDZ like:
1. Boot to Recovery then wipe data, dalvik and cache partitions
2. Factory Reset
3. Online lg Official update
Is that safe?
thanks

U CAN NOT DO IT IF U ARE ON CM7!!!
b2c tool (online lg official update) doesnt recognize your phone.. (however it looks like it does when u connect your phone and start the tool. It shows there is available software update, but when u press the upgrade, ull see and error message : connection error between the pc and the phone or somethin' like this and can not continue.
U should use r&d (doesnt require hard reset...but i did to be on the safe side or kdz updater (which requires hard reset) as i mentioned above.
if it will come

Tomorrow is the suposed release date for 2.3 in UK so will see what the excuse will be for not having it.
Or we might get UK flavour Gingerbread ( doubt it)
And to answear you question Yes!
As soon as there is update there will be KDZ files for download.

Why don't you just use the R&D tool or smartflash?
Sent from my heart into yours
I encounter communication problems with R&D tool... I've to try a lot of times before having success...
For me it's better to use CWM.
Let's see, I am on cm but if I happen to brick next time and will have to switch back to stock, I will make a nandroid for you.
Its just erecovery is working so far switching between nightly and kangs ..

i'm very sorry, but i think you can't flash any official ROM in CWM or you'll end up like me
i think LG is protecting their official ROM for being flashed outside their official updater, it checks the EMEI or something, and it'll show you "LG Security Team" thing when you try to flash it,bricked, and need to be reflashed using LG Updater

What I was trying to say is, try to make one (zip). boot.img is from the nandroid, system dump (adb pull) system files via adb. All files that you need would be there to make a flashable zip. Nova, Marquee, Korean V20L, we have them in zips.
Successfully did the official upgrade
... I didn't have communication error ...
So successfully upgraded!
Eh so I'm quite new The Optimus Black (I just got it on last Saturday!!)
I really like the phone! And I was trying to update to Gingerbread but it tells me that it's already up to date (though it's obviously on Froyo 2.2.2)
So I started to search on the internet how to flash GB manually but in vain...
It's not working...
I tried with both R&D test tool and KDZ Updater...
I followed this Guide: http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-update-lg-optimus-black-to-android-2-3-4-gingerbread.html
But it's not working...
I doesn't show me the window to select Language & Country but this one (see attachment):
Please help.. Oh btw, could you recommend me what custom rom to install??
Thanks!!
The latest LG mobile tool won`t let you do the update with KDZ or R&D.

Do the procedure again from the very begining. Power off.. press volume + ...and so on.
Just reflash it, with the same tool, redownload the files, since they might be corrupted. And check if you chose them in the right order otherwise the bootloop is guaranteed
Well, I've been at the Big-N00b topic. This is what I read:
The UNROOT
If you wanna unroot your device, why so ever, the easiest way is to use Unlock Root (Link above) open it, connect your phone via USB, enable Debugging Mode and click unroot. If you wanna unroot it, e.g. to be able to send it back to LG on warranty, better use the method below, to unbrick your device with R&D tool.
Because like this, you will get back an unrooted device, which has also been hardresetted. So LG will hardly/never get a clue, that it has ever been rooted.
Dont forget to format your SD card as well

I've tried the Unlock Root but the only thing I got was: failed to get shell root.
Anyone have an idea how to unroot it now?
Thanks.
Use the post below, as stated in my thread. It says UNBRICKING.
Flash a new software (the older the better) e.g. v10a to your phone, reboot it 2 times, then update it to the version availiable for you via B2C
Read it all dude

I've read it all, but I wanted to unroot it without having to do that much. What do you mean by B2C? LG PC Suite? Anyway, thanks for helping.
Seems like you didnt read carefully...
B2C is one of the first lines in that guide... You should really start reading carefully.
It is the Lg Update Tool.
Flashing with smartflash takes pretty exactly 5 Minutes, updating with B2C about 10-15 minutes and your all done. If you dont wanna, you dont need to, but you were asking for a solution. So take it or leave it.

So, I got one more question. Right now I'm on stock 2.3.3. If LG releases ICS and I upgrade it with LG PC Suite will I be unrooted aswell?
Of course it will... That's what was the problem with rooting Gingerbread in the beginning was. Cause as soon as you updated a rooted version of froyo, it was rooted no longer...
So will it be with ICS as well

Hi everyone!
First of all, sorry if this as been asked, tonight my Google skills didn't help me find an answer.
A friend of mine owns a LG Optimus 2X (P990) bought from Fido in Canada. Currently she's on Gingerbread and would like to update to ICS (which is the latest stock rom available from what I read)
She wouldn't get the software update OTA so she tried downloading the LG Updater software from LG directly. The software detects the phone and says an update is available.
At some point, a popup appear suggesting to make a backup. So far, everything is fine. Once the backup is done and she click the "Start upgrade" button, she gets this error message : "An Unsupported operation has been attempted"
Anyone ever seen this before? Is there a way to upgrade her phone without using the LG software?
Since it's not my own phone, I would prefer not rooting it.
If rooting is really the only solution? What would be a good guide to read to do the update? (I did read a few sticky posts... 1 is the all in one tool kit... it explains each feature, but is not really a guide and I still have some questions unanswered after reading it. The other guide I read, the download links are broken)
Thank you

you can use AIO tool, it is too easy to work with it, just follow instruction and install correct bootloader and thats it.

Alright, that didn't help at all.
First of all, I wanted to flash a stock ROM... the guide tells us to install CWM and we got stuck at the part where we have to flash the ROM because it would seem CWM won't take the KDZ (or bin/fls) files.
Now we can go to the SW Upgrade mode without the battery, but the smartflash utility time out after 3 minutes and end on an error.
We can also go to CWM with the battery... but with no apparent way to flash a stock rom.
We're stuck at the moment.
Edit : So in the end we flashed only the BIN file instead of both BIN and FLS. No more errors and the phone rebooted correctly under ICS! Yay!

It's fixed! We didn't flash the FLS file (which would be the baseband?) but the phone still booted properly and connected properly to the cell phone provider.
Hi, I rooted my phone following [GUIDE][ROOT] How to Root your LG Optimus 4X HD (O4X P880) a while back ago. Now I`d like to try JB, but after reading up I`m more confused than enlightened...(there are soo many flashers, upgraders, versions etc)
I`m on baseband L6260_MODEM_SIC_02.1216.01 with Kernel 2.6.39.4.I`ve tried to upgrade the CWM to 6.0.3.1 and 6.0.4.4 in recovery and they
went smooth, however when I reboot recovery I`m still on 6.0.1.1. I use LGUnited_50MAN3 Ver_3.10.1 on Win7 64 bit.
Would someone be so kind to guide a confused man?

Thanks, would that be from this page ( [FIRMWARE] All official JB LINKS (Know about UPCOMING VERSIONS too) )? cause the links there does not work, and second would this guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069723 ) be right?

The trip to Amsterdam had it`s toll...
Mistakenly ran CWM recovery after upgrade to JB, stuck on boot
Well, the update to JB went fine but i accidentally ran the CWM recovery AFTER, and I`m now stuck on LG screen on bootup. Is the phone now bricked and is there any way to revert to ICS and do it all over again?

Plenty of ways, search and you shall find...
you need to unlock bootloader before flashing cwm.
now you have to flash stock kdz file and start over again.
No need to go back to ics
