[Q] VZW Support for Galaxy Tab - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently picked up a Galaxy Tab from VZW and rooted flashed it with Sprint Software by accident. I read many posts on here mentioning a modem file not being available for the i800. Is there any way to get my modem working again? Ive flashed back to stock. Tried using several different versions but i have had no luck getting the modem to work. it was to the point where it wasn't even finding the modem and I had a circle with a slash in it.
I flashed a Sprint modem in order to get some sort of modem support on the device and 3 g poped up the first time and here and there it shows up. A stock GB from vzw still didn't help switch the modem.
Any suggestions im running out of ideas and i keep coming to alot of dead links since the device is otw out? I appreciate it.

Sprint Tab ROM? JME?

Didn't someone get JME Rom working on CDMA Sprint Tabs? By changing the build name around?
I cant find the post, but who ever it is, please give us more details. How'd you do it? Do you recommend it? How is it holding up? Does it brick anything (GPS, MODEM?)
Thank you!
I did it to my Sprint Galaxy Tab, original post here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929898)
I had to remove movinand.mst and it flashed fine using Odin, I just followed the directions there.
HOWEVER, the way I did it will make the Tab WIFI Only with no known way to get back until someone can figure out how to dump the sprint stock modem.bin.
That is fine with me as I did not want the 3G, but did want the Bluetooth HID. (now my Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard work)
You might be able to pull the modem.bin file out as well as movinand.mst but I have no idea what that would do, sounds very risky.
M.
did that brick your GPS though?
I use it as WIFI Only as well.
How does the JME run on the tab?
Can you upload the exact JME rom you updated for us CDMA users who are kind of new at this? That is if you still have the version you edited for the Sprint?
If there's one thing I learned with flashing ****.... as long as you don't **** with the radio you can't really mess it up. With that said, don't flash a new modem (radio)
exactly then, cant we just have all these ROMs take out the Modem.bin, wouldn't it be flashable to CDMA then? or no
Yes it borked the GPS as I flashed with the modem file to get rid of sprint, works fine so far and I can use my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard now, had to reinstall all apps though.
I just Flashed Roto's JMG last night, will see how that goes.
I used the ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894763 and took out movinand with 7zip.
I assume you could take out the modem file as well or try the update version.
I would put in a request to Rotohammer to make one for the CDMA tabs without modem and movinand to be safe.
No idea if flashing without the modem file will fry the CDMA modem as I cant test this do to no one being able to get the stock Sprint modem dumped yet.
M.
I have no experience in doing this so I was curious on just how someone would go about dumping the stock Sprint Modem? also would we be able to use the epic 4G's modem since it's similar? or would that not work due to the epic having 4G and being a different device? If I knew what direction to go I'd certainly be interested in getting in to this more.
Now if someone can just confirm how to flash without killing the modem, we'll be cooking with gas!

I know that file name is floating around as a flashable "almost stock" ROM that has the Epic 4G modem inserted, so you can recover your sprint tab but lose gps. I would get someone who has already borked their gps by flashing to test it and see if it fixes it before everyone goes flashing this ROM.
If I was doing a restore using the files posted I would not flash the modem.bin. That's what breaks the Tab, not the software.

[Help] Stock sprint Galaxy Tab, mine bricked

I tried to flash my sprint galaxy tab with the firmware that allows you to make phone calls... now i realize that was not for sprint. is there anyway to get back to how i was before with 3g? i was able to load Zypher but that doesnt give me my 3g back. Please help!
Ever figure it out? I bricked mine too :'(
Find and flash an ODIN package that contains the original firmware plus the modem.bin for the radio. PM me if you need any further assistance.
do you guys have the sprint pit and rom?
I tried to do euro flash and get errors in recovery mode about not being able to mount e?
Bricked Sprint Tab!!!
Hey guys I'm a newbie myself but with a little bit of reading I was able to fix the bricked issue. Follow this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869819 and the Sprint Stock Rom is here. One is with a modem and one is without. For those who are wanting to get back the 3g as it says in the link it uses the 4g epic dump. It looks like your out of luck. Because once you dump this modem there is no going back it's for good. So your better off sticking with the WiFi for now till one day a sprint modem is dumped. I'm also learning myself and also in the process in flashing this via Odin3. I to have bricked my tab lastnight just doing a factory reset. I was using the VooDoo with full CMW ! So just follow the instructions very carefully and you should get your tab working again.

[Q] Bricked Galaxy Tab

Good Day,
Let me start by saying that I had tried to post this under a thread in the development section, but was denied as I am a new member.
I require some advice regarding a bricked Samsung Galaxy Tab.
The unit will not boot or enter download mode, only the navigation icons at the base of the device light up and turn off when holding the power button for a short period of time. My PC chimes as though it can see the device, yet does not show up in "my computer".
Odin sees the device, but hangs during flash attempts at "SetupConnection".
After reading the thread regarding unbricking your Galaxy Tab, I was unable to determine the nature of this particular "bricking".
The device entered this state after I had attempted to flash the device with the new Gingerbread update which downloaded from SamFirmware.com. This was not my first flash on this device, as I had the new version of the Overcome ROM installed, and was attempting to bring the device back to stock firmware for my region.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Put the tab to the wall socket and charge it for a few hours. Shutdown your pc and unplug it. Once the tab has charged. Connect to the PC and attempt to flash a decent stock firmware like overcome's stock safe. Good luck.

Thank you for the quick reply,
I have had the tab charging via the wall charger for some time now. Will there be an indication as to when it would be advisable to try the flash ie: the device's current boot behavior will change...
And your instruction to shut down my PC and unplug it, unplug the PC?
Can you give me any indication as to what has happened here? For future knowledge... and will my inability to reach download mode restrict my success rate on resurrecting my BRAND NEW TAB ... LOL!!
Thank You DarkPal
Well your bootloaders arent screwed up as the tab is showing signs of life and is detectable in ODIN. Unless in a faaar fetched case of another hardware failure your tab firmware is corrupted. I asked you to unplug the PC to reset the USB host controllers (recommended in case there is a connectivity issue with usb).
Try to put the tab in download mode again after its been sufficiently charged and connect to pc then flash a decent stock firmware like overcome's stock safe.
Did the trick,
Thank you for this. Overcomes stock safe installed and running.
I do have an unrelated question when it comes to modem choice, and noticed that you authored the modem list in the dev section for these devices.
I am having some issue getting 3G connection, and cannot pinpoint if this is a firmware issue or modem issue.
I am in Canada on the Fido network, running GT-P1000
Can you suggest a modem?
Depends on what bands your network supports. I dont reside in Canada so I wouldnt know maybe someone else using fido can help? In most general terms the JPZ modem works for most GSM networks give it a shot first. If fido is an 850 band network consider JJ3 modem.
Thank you
I am very happy to post that I have resolved my issue regarding the lack of connectivity in my region.
It was in fact a modem issue.
I found the solution on this page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847273
I followed the instructions on that thread to test the modem under the ROM prescribed there... it worked on all available bands in my region, and proceeded to use just the modem along with the overcome ROM, and again success.
I am attaching the modem for any other Canadian Fido users encountering this problem. Hope it I can pay it forward.
Thank you again for all you help.
Great support structure here at XDA!!
I had the same problem with only the navigation buttons flashing but i could still get it to connect as a composite device for heimdall after flashing stock safe I can get back to recovery but I get errors nd failures when I try to wipe data/cache its a Verizon grab seven inch black if that matters I got the files from stock safe all but a recovery file and I used my own modem and tried again with one of the stock safe modems is the modem my problem? When I reboot device I go into a boot loop where it says Samsung and it used to say Verizon instead can u help me please?
Which stock safe you are talking about.
I hope not GB stock safe v5 from overcome site. That is a gsm rom, not for cdma.

Edit: OK I found a heimdall one click method that restored it but it restored it to a 2.2 I was on 2.3.5 and all this started trying to get to 4.0.3 so can I get ice or do I need to stay with gingerbread and if so how do I upgrade back to it if my tab is unlocked?

[Q] Q: Telstra ROM screen timeout will not come back on

I have a pre-release Galaxy Tab with slightly different hardware (no camera button). I have flashed the stock Telstra ROM and all works fine....EXCEPT...
Whenever the screen times out, or I manually press the power button to turn off the screen...it will not turn back on!
I always have to reboot.
I have tried re-flashing, and also flashed a different ROM then back to Telstra but it does not seem to matter.
Any ideas?
NOTE: I am VERY new to this flashing business so don’t get too technical on me.
As far as I know my galaxy tabs DON'T have camera buttons so I don't know of what tab you have...
If it was a Telstra tab, p1000t ( written on the back near the base) then it runs at 850mHz, if it was a tab from elsewhere then its probably a p1000 and runs at 900mHz.
If you flashed a straight Telstra rom where the modem.bin file hasn't been changed with one compatible to your radio this may cause problems but I wouldn't think it would stuff up the screen...
You need to clarify what have you done, is the tab rooted, is it a custom rotohammer copy of a Telstra rom, what type of tab you actually have... Then we might be able to help....
Ahhh, cool. Sorry for the confusion.
This is a GT-P1000
I am pretty sure it runs on 850 as it was a Telstra device.
It is NOT rooted and did not have anything else done to it. When I got it, it had a very vanilla Android build (didn't even have Gmail). Using ODIN 1.7 I flashed several different ROMs until I found one that worked.
I used gt-p1000_mr.pit
And then the Telstra moddem.bin and TelstraP1000TDVJJ3.tar ROM that I saw posted on this site. They all work except for this on/off issue
I only managed to get one other ROM to work (JHA.tar) but it keeps giving me the "Kernel Panic" error so is not stable. I have tried following the Overcome instructions but they do not work for this either.
Do I need to do something else on this machine to get the Telstra ROM working? Any ideas why it dies every time the screen times out?
Thanks

[Q] AT&T Data on t879??

Hi, just to put this out there, I have searched, read, searched and read for the past 3 nights, and have not been able to find a solution...
I have a T-Mobile t879, which I unlocked to use on my At&Tplan (sorry, TMobile Service is horrible down here). I can only use edge for my data.
I know that the Phone's hardware should be able to use 3g, as the specs show it to have the same bandwidth capabilities as the i717.
I've tried downloading every AT&T modem on this site, and lost all network capabilities, so I'm back on the stock t879 modem. Is there any app, mod or settings I could use to access faster internet on AT&T's network?
BTW - I am using AOCP JB Rom, but if 100% Necessary, I will revert to the stock ROM. Had the same problem before installing JB rom.

I have had an opposite problem. I have the I717 which runs on edge when I put my t-mobile sim in. I tried using t-mobile modems(found on the xda i717 development forum) but that never really worked. When the t879 came out, I was happy to finally have a official modem that would work, but it turn out not to work for me. So I am using a i717 with t879 stock rom and a tmo modem on t-mobile which runs on edge and sit in my desk.
Did you try all the at&t modems in the I717 development forums(http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1496)?
You could also try loading the stock I717 rom which should work since I loaded the stock T879 rom on my I717.
I717 - THE ALL IN OnE STOCK ROMS/Kernels/Modems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647756
If nothing works, my suggestion is to sell or trade your T879 for an I717.
Once in a while, I still look and play with my I717 hoping it will work on tmobile hspa+
