I already have my pc setup with adb. It appears to be working just fine. I'm trying to setup adb on my laptop and is running into all types of problems. I've downloaded the sdk and ran the sdk setup.exe and downloaded all the latest files, and of course the usb driver. I was able to successfully install the driver and was able to connect my G1 for file transfer. I've followed the guide info to the letter but for some strange reason I get the following:
Code:
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found
I've already tried uninstalling the newest driver and installing the working one from my pc, then I tried downloading a driver that was listed by a user in this thread. Still no luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

2) Tried 3 different drivers. All allowed me to connect my G1 to transfer files, but not ADB.
3) ...shouldn't have to install linux. My pc (running windows abviously) works just fine. My laptop, running windows, should work the same.

I really wouldn't except this behavior from you, but I see we all fall from grace every now and again. I've posted in that thread already, no one can seem to come up with an intelligent response. I followed all the instructions in both adb help threads for proper installation on my laptop. If you don't know the answer to what I'm seeking, I would honestly prefer you not to reply at all. Don't assume I'm the typical xda idiot, assume I'm the most intelligent person you've ever spoke to, then go from there with your next reply.

Thank you for trying to "actually" assist me. I am using the exact same usb cable on purpose to rule that out as a reason. I've also recently update both computers to the latest norton antivirus. Like I stated the drivers install on the laptop and I'm able to connect the G1 for file transfers, so I assume the driver is working but when I type in adb device or adb shell in cmd, I get the no device msg. I'm really stumped with this one...
*Update* My norton did remove adb.exe from windows\system32 on both computers, but I was able to restore that file on both. Like I said, my pc works just fine, laptop no good...
And point 3
Install linux ( ubuntu 10.4 )
Just give it 10gb
It will eliminate hardware faults as being the problem
The android developer has a tutorial for 10.4, so it should be easy
( no need for drivers, aparently 10.4 ships with the android udev rule )
the driver for file transfer isnt the same as the driver for adb....so your logic is flawed
seriously tho, use linux...wubi is pretty good now and u only need 4-10gb if u are only using it for android stuff
in my experience, windows, especially where norton is used, randomly breaks adb
The file transfer is done using the standard windows mass storage driver, not an android specific driver. Even if it's the same norton, try disabling it and see what happens. Also, trying removing the driver completely and reinstalling it again. I've had the issue happen also only when in windows and it's always something random.
virtualbox _should_ ( I think ) let you 'see' the Android Phone regardless of the drivers being installed on the Windows host
But, I have not tested that
Did you ever get this to work, I have the same issue?
I'm having the same issue, I'm trying to use ADB with my TF300T from a Windows 7 64 bit system. Always get the error adb error.
I have a couple of questions will this work correctly with a 64bit O.S?
Also the part of the instructions that reference SDCARD are they talking about the directory on my ASUS /sdcard/ or are they talking about the physical card?
Just need to know does it require you to have a sdcard in the ASUS to use adb?
May sound like fundamental questions to a lot of you, however I have combed through these forums as well as others all over the web, and the majority of instructions seem to be lacking the basics.
Thank you,
I have Ubuntu at work should I run ADB through this?
I have Ubuntu at work
It's a bit of a process according to the instructions that I have on the
screen right now to setup ADB through this, is there any gotchas that I should
know about before attempting this?
This is running on a VM on one of my servers. What I'm looking for is any known compatibility issues with versions of ADB and the Asus TF300T running .26
Thanks in advance.

chroot does work but sadly i could only get it working through adb shell and even that by manually typing every command.Tried to create a script for it but sadly that does not work.could not understand why that is as manually typing those commands in adb worked.
Anyway been a long time since i tried that. Will re-try in a day or two once i fix my computer
I guess that's something wrong with kernels.. does anybody compiled one with loop ? mine seems not containing it..
plus scripts act very strange, confirmed..
any more people trying this?

Yaa Sure.i will upload the stuff in a day or two.See the Problem is creating loop using scripts. When i give the following indiviual command:-
mknod /dev/loop99 b 7 0
then it works but when i give the same command using a script(.sh) it gives an error 'knod:invalid number'.Till the loop is created we wont be able to mount the device.at the moment i am trying a few alternate commands. If it can work i will post the complete work.If not then i will post the image file and the temp scripts.
Its damn hard getting it to work.If it works then i will also work on debain and BackTrack 5 and other arm linux's.Lets hope for the best.

No need to bug the dev's for such a small thing.Loops are supported in the original LG Kernel.Like i said i can mount it by typing all the commands manually but the problem occours when i use a script to do the process automatically.
If loops were not compiled i doubt i could get it to mount even by manual commands.
What craziness happens with you when you issue a mount command?
Maybe i could advise you on that?
EDIT:I think i finally found the problem with the script. Not Sure.will do some further testing and get back to you.

In case of yes, debian would be started when Android start, or you want to avoid Android ?

Did you try to change your DNS Servers ? You can use Google's on 8.8.4.4/8.8.8.8
Did you try to connect by other means ? 3G, WiFi ?
Finally, for personal use, which debian img did you use ? Your own-made ? I ask because I just DLed an ubuntu image that someone else did, based on the ARM-one. But I don't see any ARM specific image on debian's website (or I don't know the other name, which could be shown).

Then you can root you note on you Mac, but just in the virtual machine.

Thx for all the help. In your instructions why does it say say to extract to a PC if its MAC or do I skip that step? Sorry for the dumb questions, but I'm new to this whole android thing. ALso, is it really worth me rooting my device?
it is a .zip must be extracted (pc, mac or linux it's the same)
for example with 7zip [7-zip.org/download.html]
I apparently have no clue how to do this. I've tried to do what the post said, but have had no luck.

Update 08/2013:
tonyp said:
Okay, another project I can close down.
As some of you might know koush has built a universal adb driver a while back.
I sent him a pull request a week ago of my work for the P990/P999:
https://github.com/koush/UniversalAdbDriver/commit/a04fd56de48dc7a7cd0e20ece78ed19274b2bc5d
He merged it and did a rebuild of the driver, you can download it here:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi
Source code: https://github.com/koush/UniversalAdbDriver
There are a mainly two advantages by using it:
- it is a universal driver for many Android devices (all Nexus + several HTC, Samsung and Motorola phones)
- you don't need to disable driver signature enforcement on Win 8
If you only got one device then you won't need it at all of course, you can just use the official driver by LG.
This driver was built (and needed) before LG released ICS (and the updated driver for ICS+ ROMs).
If your device ID is missing send koush a pull request, the linked one I posted above should tell you the proper format.

Finally working adb drivers for ICS/JB in Windows!
This is an adb driver for Windows. LG's adb driver wasn't working for Android 4.0+ ROMs before they (finally) released their ICS update.
I modded Googles adb usb driver to work with the LG 2x (P990/P999).
Additionally this driver does work in CWM6 - especially useful as there are still some recoveries which aren't able to mount usb storage - with adb you can workaround that and adb push files to the /sdcard.
Installation instructions:
Download and extract this zip: http://goo.im/devs/tonyp/modded_adb_driver (use the newest version)
Win8 users only: You need to disable the driver signature enforcement. Follow the instructions in the second post.
Open the device manager
Rightclick LG-P990 (or similiar) and choose "Update Driver Software..."
Choose to "Browse my computer for driver software"
Click on Browse and navigate to the extraction folder
Hit next and choose the second option "Install this driver software anyway"
Done!
Troubleshooting:
If no driver gets found at step 7 your phone probably got a different Hardware ID.
I added all Hardware IDs for the LG 2x I am aware of, but there might be additional ones.
Please post your ID in this thread and I will release a new version of the driver for you
This screenshot shows which information I need: http://www.screencast.com/t/Z41IUcpq2
Win8 instructions:
To install an unsigned driver you need to disabe driver signature enforcement (sorry, I can't afford the 2000$ to buy a signing licence )
You need to do an advanced reboot.
Easiest way: Hit Win+R, type in the following command and hit enter:
Code:
shutdown -o -r -t 0
Click ‘Troubleshoot’.
Click ‘Advanced Options’
Click ‘Windows Startup Settings’
Click Restart
After the restart choose the option "7" - ‘Disable driver signature enforcement‘
Now install the driver as written in the OP. After your next reboot the enforcement gets enabled again.
Oups, I just wanted to reserve one post, well as I have this post now anyways I will use it to link to the following comic:

Hey all,
I managed to brick my Nook HD+ a few month ago (see previous threads). The EMMC partitions are broken and I cant access them.
So, I noticed a few ROMS that work of a SD Card. The only problem is, the installation seems to need to store the ROM on the internal EMMC in order to install it.
Is there a way round this?
Cheers

Well I'm stuck nothing seems to work
Just a quick note.
Be sure to use v1.0.31 of adb or greater, or it will not see your device.
Also, in my bootimg_tools_ovation are the files necessary to get adb working in linux.
(the "hidden" .android folder gets copied to home, and the rules file to /etc/udev).
Someone really should make a live linux usb/flash image with working adb for the nook. (Just boot from usb key and have working adb)
Wouldn't be that difficult.
