I just want to ask if there is an existing Froyo ROM which works well with a Custom Kernel?
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
You can find any froyo rom and any custom kernel. It should work. You must try to know what's your most suitable..
Send from my brick using my fingers
No, they can't work together. Devs were saying something about kernels using Gingerbread Ram-disk and that they only work on Gingerbread ROMs.
take a Costum Kernel that doesn't has a Gingerbread Ramdisk, then delete all your modules from your rom and test it
Ohh. Thanks for the feedback. I don't have nuff knowledge about this stuffs.

Any ROM you get from this forum will have installation instructions. This is the best place to start.
Gingerbread has not been officially released yet so I doubt you will find any ROMs based on it. Most custom ROMs are based on JPU and JPY (both FroYo), but they do have some Gingerbread elements installed.

Nice to see galaxy have recovery and 3 button mode.
Both are working on my galaxy.
Very easy to install custom rom.
But Xperia x10 need to root then install recovery and then custom rom.

I wanted to know if we are able to flash i9000 JVB ROMS and just flash an appropriate captivate kernel and modem. I know this is possible with some roms (such as miui) and want to know if the same could be done with jvb, as they have many more rom options to try atm

Hi Guys,
I'm on stock rooted ICS LPY with Franco #3 ICS kernel.I would need your guidance on how to install CWM recovery.thanks!

Hi Guys,I was quite surprise that cwm recovery is already installed.can someone enlighten me?I was previously using Motorola Atrix and it was different.just hope to understand more on SGN.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Kernels nearly always contain CWM Recovery, so when you flash a kernel, you get the CWMR as well.
Thanks for your reply!you have really brighten my knowledge on SGN.

are kernels ICS and/or GB compatible only or can we flash any kernel on any rom ?
"are kernels ICS and/or GB compatible only or can we flash any kernel on any rom ? "
Nope. ICS kernels only work on ICS roms and vice versa for GB kernels.
Helloo Everybody..
I will be really grateful if someone found a solution to my problem...
I know that this is not a support site, but a developers world, but after searching and googling, i couldnt help my self.
Mods can close and delete this thread if they want.
My question is that if I flash a Gingerbread kernel(nAa or Alfs) on ECLAIR 2.1...wont it create problems..such as force closing or rebooting sort of problems??
Secondly I read SpydeX thread of unlocking bootloader..i got all the tools ready, but the thread doesnt mentions anything about entering into recovery via kernel on ECLAIR 2.1... the guide just tells that after flashing entr into recovery and flash the rom.
I tried this trick on my friends X8, but no success..
Thanxx in advance
If you flash a custom kernel at the eclair while you have locked bootloader, you will have bootloop(it wont boot, but you can easily fix it),if you have unlocked your bootloader it will be fine
As for your second question, you unlock your bootloader, you flash the kernel(which contain cwm),you enter recovery(cwm),and you flash the rom.

No he's got it wrong.
1. You can't flash custom kernels on a locked rom flashtool won't allow it.
2. Flashing a custom kernel on stock 2.1 will cause it to bootloop, what you'd normally do is enter recovery and flash a rom that works with the kernel.

No,users have reported that custom kernels work with stock rom(I remember very clear a user who used naa kernel with stock rom)
Maybe older versions...
