So...I know I shouldn't believe Verizon reps when it comes down to this ...but I just got off the phone with tech support manager from Verizon trying to get a different phone for my bionic due to data issues. She told if I can hang in there for a day bc new update coming out tomorrow afternoon . I asked her I then can get into a different if it isn't and she me options of any lte device out there or 3g except phone. She told I could then switch to one if update doesn't drop.
I know our community has been given a run around when it comes to updates. Just a fyi that is all.

looks that way
Since it will be there official update, wonder if anything has been tweaked, changed, etc, from the leaked version that some of us have...
refresh my memory... which update broke webtop?
Does anyone know whether or not forever root will still be valid for this OTA (5.5.893)? I remember p3droid saying do not take any further moto updates as the exploits have been patched...but...
I had data drops 27 times today. I counted and kept track.
This update is long overdue.

I'm with you on that, I go most of the day without data. I have to wait till I get home to use wifi, in lucky if my feeds update. hopefully this will correct the reboots as well.
I have been on 5.6 then 5.7.893, never did the first 5.5.893 but my data drop is definitely alot less often. Maybe only 1x or 2x a week. Its been solid for the last week. Usually when the drop occurs and needs a reboot or airplane mode cycle is when it wakes from sleep.

I too would like to know.
According to Verizon's lastest list of fixes for the new OTA, is suppose to fix the dreaded BSOD.
I have the leaked version and I still get BSOD. and yes, pocket protection is off.

heard the news on androidcentral about a new update .902 being pushed to testers tonight, anyone trying it out?
someone get it out to us, if its true.
It appears that the next Motorola Droid Bionic update, which follows the massive bug fix roll out that happened back in December, is on the cusp of heading out to the public as the software is headed to testers tonight which means that a release should be just around the corner. The 5.9.902 update won’t be as packed as the previous one but it brings a couple of interesting things to Droid Bionic users.
The main thing here is that Verizon has removed the VCast Music preload aka bloatware from the phone. So if you haven’t rooted your device and gotten rid of it already, it’ll be gone soon enough.
Big Red has replaced VCast with another piece of bloatware in the Amazon MP3 app, an app that is arguably useful.
Droid Bionic
Other pieces of the update include:
Motorola Terms and Conditions screen automatically enables data collection/location details
Google security patch to block access to change Home panel icons
After factory reset, location consent screen shown on activation screen
Change “Terms and Condition” screen title to “Motorola Terms of Service”
So, not too exciting but this is a maintenance update and now a full-blown bug fixer. There are also still some mysteries here too, like, what does “Motorola Terms and Conditions screen automatically enables data collection/location details” entail exactly?
Fortunately, we should know everything there is to know about this 5.9.902 update later on today when it reaches Droid Bionic beta testers.

So the big thing is VCAST? The people that tried 901 made alot of claims about what it did. Would it be safe to say...those things are not listed in the fix list, but a result of trail and test?
902 is the same as 901 just with that lil extra crap that you see they added.. Only time will tell once reports from the soak testers start coming in...

Ok cool and all..... but what about Root?
We barely were able to hang onto our Root with the .901 update!!

Because as you know the only way to get root on .901 was tricky and risky.

Forever root worked fine for me. Nothing tricky or risky about it. And, as of last I heard, there's no way to root on .901 or .902. You need to forever root before moving up.
All,
In a posting on the Motorola Forums,
Matt says it is all a rumor:
"What the heck are you talking about? Why would we do this?
Guys, this is all just rumor. You know the soak tests have credibility when they post my confidential emails on the tech sites, right?"

I think for now this should be put to rest.
I just got a lg revo brand new from eBay and it seems to be stuck on 2.2.2. I did a master restore and it had an update which I thought was 2.3, but I guess it was just a spammer 2.2 update. Will I ever get 2.3 or am I stuck on 2.2? I read on a lg forum that the 2.3 update is no longer on Verizon's servers.

To answer the original question, you will likely get the update eventually. I was talking to a verizon rep for a while (about a separate problem) and they mentioned that they push out the updates in stages ie not everyone at once. They do that to prevent overloading their servers unnecessarily.
If you don't want to do the manual (tot file) method you could try calling them and asking for it. There is a method they can walk you through to manually make your phone "ask the server" for the update. You jsut might have to work up to "level 2" tech support to get it...
(I've spent WAY too much time on the phone with tech support...)
I spent over 6 hours on the phone with tech support & was told to have the phones replaced. I got to 2nd tier & then the supervisor... Just got the phones Feb 2nd & they told me that they could not guarantee any updates for 90 days.... Said "Screw it", got the .tot file & burned it, then rooted, then Gingervolted.... SOOOOOOOOO MUCH HAPPIER !!!!!!

Wow.. It could have been that they offered me the update because they'd already sent me 2 replacement phones that still had the reboot constantly problem... Who knows... It could just depend on who you talk to I suppose.
I also went with gingervolt, despite eating my battery I absolutely love it. The speed increase and lack of bing alone make it worthwhile!
I just got off the phone with VZW. Apparently, they've stopped rolling out the OTA because of "software issues," though he didn't specify beyond that. So, for all of you who have been waiting for the OTA over the past few days, off the top of his head, the tech guesstimated it'll be around a month before they begin rolling it out again. Lame.
Edit: You can still install the .217 leak...but if the update has been pulled for software issues, that obviously means .217 is no longer the official OTA.
What? thats BS! even though im on Eclipse ICS 1.2, its still BS for anyone still on GB!

Yeah, I've been mashing the "systems update" option habitually now for a couple days, but also avoided just manually updating to the .217 leak for this very reason. Either way, it is kind of disappointing.
honestly, if I were you, I would jump on either the 217 leak, or if you want a custom rom that's slightly themed and has extra features/no bloat, go with Eclipse
It wasn't supposed to be released for the general OTA, they did that on accident, only people who were signed up for the motorola feedback network test were supposed to get it, but for some reason they pushed it to all devices. It should be officially pushed in a week or so, because it appears the soak test isn't showing up any major issues.

EDIT: Did NOT work
I called VZW tech support earlier today because it was not working and they did not mention anything about it being halted, but it probably depends on which tech you speak with.
I am not sure if this works or not but the guy I spoke with did tell me that performing a factory reset can sometimes trigger the upgrade. I don't have anything on there that I can't live without or easily re-install so I am going to go ahead and give it a shot.
EDIT: Just tried above. Did NOT work

As mentioned above, there was no planned general release yet. Moto did a release for "a few thousand" phones, of which only a small portion are official MFN soak testers. The test will end soon, and it looks like no show-stopper issues have been found, so, if things go as usual, the general release will roll out, probably in groups, over the next several days.
Sounds like the OP spoke to someone in VZ who really didn't know why the release wasn't available and made something up. (And I bet you never thought a VzW rep would do that!)
Keep in mind, even if they had decided to halt it due to a showstopper bug, they've already released it to several thousand owners. Which means they're obligated to provide anyone on .217 with a way to get back onto the upgrade path, if they decide to release a newer update down the road.
All in all - if you're impatient, just install the current .217 files - you'll still be able to upgrade again later if you need to.
Btw: I'm on it now, and I ABSOLUTELY HATE the Dialer and Contacts being split apart into totally separate apps. I always hit the Dialer icon first, and then if I can't remember a person's phone number, I now have to back out of it and look up the contact first. Whereas on GB I just had to select the Contacts tab and go on. So from a human interface perspective, this new design sucks.

When your in at the dialer screen just push menu then search it goes to your contact list. So its a matter of hitting 2 buttons but you can get to it from dialer. I also miss the other way but im getting used to this and it doesnt bother me anymore

It's happened to me twice now in the last two days that I was unable to hear the people calling me. Switching to speaker mode or rebooting the phone fixed this. Actually only rebooting. Alternating between speaker and normal mode is just a temporary fix as long as I'm in speaker mode. Plug in the headset and it works. Take it out en again no sound... I think it happens after I use BT.
Maybe people who are on this update officially could raise a bit of fuss about this and ask to be put back onto Gingerbread?
As we all know this currently can't be done due to the highly restrictive bootloader, perhaps we could wangle a better bootloader out of this?

And tell you it's TBD. My old co-worker who now works at Rogers looked into it and apparently Samsung isn't releasing that information. As he said it's policy it classify devices that don't get support as TBD as to not piss off customers. Aka it's a coin toss if they are going to release it.
AT&T isn't the same as our devices. The closest we can get is T-Mobile. If and when TMO gets the update we won't be far behind. At least we shouldn't.
Yeah, I know of that link and they have pointed me there before. I've had a dialog going with them actually. I would like to rattle their cages "in public" as much as possible and Twitter is a good way to do that. I really was surprised to just get the Note 4 about 2 weeks ago, thinking it was the current flagship phone and then find out they have no idea when they are going to release Lollipop on it. Just bizarre.
A coin toss? How can a phone that hasn't been out for even 5 months yet not get Lollipop?

I was referring to the 5.0.1 update. It's very possible they will just lazily skip it and go for 5.1
If thats the case we most likely won't see a LP update this year. Remember Samsung had the oportunity to start LP in June and it has taken them 9 months just to get to this point. Considering no Canadian Carriers have been informed of the update even arriving, meaning they have not tested them and that in turn could create another month or two of testing. It's also been disclosed that Samsung has no plans on working on 5.1 at the moment. Let's assume that they wait to give us 5.1 instead of pushing 5.0.1 out. Since they have not even started 5.1 we can assume they might start in two months (Highly doubt it would be that quick). Then if we take the first time frame we add another 9 months plus the fact they wait a month after they build (check the build logs) we are at a total time frame of 12 months out for a single update. Skipping 5.0.1 would mean a total of 21 months of development time before the first actual LP update.
Of course remember this is all assumptions and theory based on what we have seen so far and I could be totally off. At least I hope I am.

thanks for the heads up. Downloading now.
I installed it and really don't notice much of a difference. I guess this means no M for another 2 months at this point.

Probably just updating security mostly since we were a few months behind. Could also be preparing our phones to take take 6.0 update since there's usually a small update before a big one. Wouldn't hold my breath on it though

Yup
At least there was only a month delay between when this came out for the international version and us

Well we skipped a few months too so I'm not sure that counts
Don't try to apply this update if you've applied one of the leaked insecure boot images (for getting a root prompt). There's a check of the boot image built into the updater and if you attempt installation it will wipe your phone back to stock.
D**k move Samsung, d***k move.
I was a fool to initially think that the update juuuuuust might be Marshmallow. And then I thought, "I have AT&T. They would've made the announcement before just releasing the OTA. Hell, they would've made a big deal out of it, even; as if they're doing us a favor. " And so, I took a Valium and went to sleep.
This update seems to break mms for many of the users myself included verified with AT&T that is indeed related to it Samsung is on process of updating. Anyway if you happen to get it just boot your phone to safe mode and then use mms there and restart back to normal, it works after . And hopefully marshmallow will be soon

I'm still getting MMS texts, what was broken?
So far I've noticed my battery life is better than it was before, on the OJ7 update i had a very odd drain as well as issues with my bluetooth and wifi that were only fixed with a reboot......so far knock on wood they seem to be resolved but it should take a few more days to fully confirm. I did also try Enhanced LTE again and just as before I had a nice drain on my battery so they still don't have that working great yet (my area has weak LTE and switches between LTE and 4G on a normal basis).

Pictures, wasn't able to send or receive. Some problem with the default app. Plus it deleted all my old pictures from the texts thread.

Factory reset might be your only option till the update hits, tough luck
