[Q] New Galaxy Tab Owner, fill me in on the "scene" - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got myself a Verizon Galaxy Tab (from Woot), and I was searching around for ROMs for it. It came installed with Froyo (and tons of Verizon crapware).
I found a Honeycomb ROM, but the links are all dead. I spoke with oldmacnut, and was told that spacemoose1 isn't working on these anymore, and that he (oldmacnut) doesn't want to post ROMs to XDA after some drama or something.
I also found an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM, but it seems too alpha for me to want to use.
I then looked for Cyanogenmod 7 (Gingerbread) ROMs, but they all seem to be for GSM only (I have CDMA).
So, can someone fill me in on Galaxy Tab ROM development. Will there be a CM7 ROM for CDMA tabs? Is anyone working on Honeycomb?
Currently, I have Galaxy Cubed 3 installed, and I am patiently waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich to be complete.
Edit: I just found a CM7 ROM for CDMA, I'm gonna try that.

Any decent 2.3 ROMs for the Captivate?

I had a look through the Android development section and couldn't really find anything above 2.2. My GF has a captivate and she's finally willing to do away with the carrier installed stuff.
And IF there are no 2.3 ROMs (which really doesn't make any sense because I've been running 2.3 on my DZ since the start of January), what are some of the better 2.2 ones?

2.3 ROMs aren't out yet.
But there are some really nice 2.2.1 ROMs, di11igaf's rom being one of them

Serendipity is the best one I've found, Mike has a great eye for design, and he and Chance have great ideas on functionality. They pay close attention to detail and update the ROM frequently with easily flashed .zips in recovery (no wiping involved unless it's a major update). It's built on 2.2.1.

Care to enlighten the masses on this? Cyanogen's been trolling (IMO) on his wiki:

"NOTE: As of right now CyanogenMod is not available for the Samsung Galaxy S family. Please check the wiki or the Samsung Galaxy S sub-forum for updates."
But then again, I suppose if you have a large amount of expertise and win in your arsenal, you could fit all of the witchcraft to the Captivate, unless I'm a complete noob and Cyanogen got a ROM hidden away that I'm not aware of.
Serindipity is one that I've been looking into. I have her phone ready to rock and roll, rooted + CWM. Just need to decide on a ROM
I find it strange that the Galaxy S lineup still doesn't have a publicly available 2.3 ROM... considering the first device to ship with 2.3 was the Nexus S. IIRC it has a near identical hardware set as the Fascinate, Captivate, Vibrant, I9000 etc.
LOVE Pargaon RC6....Great ROM! Stable, fast, and great GPS! It is 2.2.1. No 'working' 2.3 roms out as of yet!

Here's a captivate update zip. Follow the instructions on the CM forums for the initial install using the GT-I9000 rom, and then follow the update instructions using this captivate package.

As for it not making sense, The whole reason you have been able to run it is that HTC likes putting the source code up as to where we are still trying to get it from Samsung. Heck 2.2 official just dropped to day. lol
You will get 10 different answers as to some good roms. Just have a read in the threads and chose one that seems good to you.

the rom has been available for a while but i dont know if anyone has been able to extract it. it was some weird file system or someting.
If anyone picks it up, itll probably be for the i9000 at first, so here's to hopes of a reoriented rom
One can dream.......would be sweet!
i dont think we'll see a ported rom but maybe some ported apk's and it should be gingerbread so maybe ported on the galaxy s 2.3.2 leak if any of the devs over in that forum get around to it.
though a port to cm7 for a weird hybrid would be cool also.

[Q] does the sgt have carrier iq installed on the stock firmware? overcome?

An associate just brought this article to my attention about a program called carrier iq which is basically a keylogger trojan horse built into many android and blackberry roms.
http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/security-researcher-responds-to-carrieriq-with-video-proof-20111129/
Is this software in the stock SGT firmware?
Is this software present in the current version of overcome for the sgt?
is this software present in the android sources release (AOSP)? / Will it be in the ICS port?
Thanks for the info.
After doing a bit of research i found that aosp builds like overxome dont have this at all. I didnt do toi much digging as to wether it is in the stock roms on the sgt as im personally using overcome and will be trying out some other tweaked aosp rom builds like the honeycomb and ice cream sandwich roms when they are a bit more stable.

Update Ice Cream Sandwich

I am using Samsung Galaxy S android version 2.2, I want to update it to Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 or which ever is available. I read the instructions but I did not understand anything from it. I am doing it for the first time so I want to know step by step details or if there is any video. I also want to know few things
1- Will android market work
2- Will the phone have lags or speed get slower in the video it did not but I want to know.
3- Will I get all feature of Ice Cream Sandwich
4- In future if company releases 4.0 for galaxy s can I roll back the changes and turn it back to the original version which was there and if yes then how??
I have never tried such thing so I want to be sure before I do it. It looks pretty good in the video.
Firstly, welcome to xda. There currently isnt a proper samsung version of ICS for the galaxy s. What there is are several custom roms people have made based on ics, which if you read through their posts you will see that most of them still have issues and/or bugs. If you check this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363593 these guys are getting closer every time to a full working version of ics for the galaxy s.
So, choices for you are wait until samsung release a full version of ics (which looks very doubtful) or flash the afore mentioned ics rom or flash a different rom that takes your fancy. Myself I am flicking between this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344489 (my current rom) and saurom.
Once you decided what you wanna do, then let us all know and we will guide you in the right direction.
My advice is to stay on samsung based ROMs for now. ICS ports are still alpha, although some people are using them for everyday. On the other hand, most GB XXJV? and XWJW1 roms are running quite fast on the Galaxy S. Coming from 2.2 you will see a big difference going into 2.3.6.
My personal choice is SURFACE v8 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155776) with the IceCreamS theme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386990).
Good luck!
I would like to knw when the full working version of ICS is available so tht before I update I could assure myself being safe to update the phone. I am not waiting for Samsung update but I want a proper Rom which suits the phone
Samsung said it won't be releasing any official ICS on Galaxy S. So all ICS work is made by dev teams, using the ICS source code and ICS releases on similar hardware (Nexus S). Most (all?) ICS ROMs are based in teamhacksung ICS port. You can see them in the Development forum (OneCosmic, Surface v1, MyICS, ...)
Some devs will say that their roms are release-candidate, finished or even official, but be careful with this, the teamhacksung port is in alpha stage (build 11) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363593). Moreover, there is no public roadmap for an official version and the devs don't like to be asked on ETAs.
I suggest you to read that thread to see what is and is not working in each build. Also, you can get answers to most of your questions (except ETA) on the CM9 discussion thread in this forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1387937).

Given that you have no experience flashing custom ROMs, I would also have to suggest avoiding the alpha ICS builds right now. Things will probably go wrong, whether majorly or minorly, that you aren't accustomed to dealing with.
Wait until a stable version is available, or at the very least a beta. However, in the mean time, I would definitely recommend flashing to 2.3.6. As someone else already mentioned, it will be a nice upgrade over 2.2, and it's an easy way to learn the basics of flashing ROMs.
Good luck!
First get to Gingerbread and then go for ICS if you really want to.

[Q] Honeycomb for Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000

Hello.
Does anyone know where i can download Honeycomb for the Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000? it doesn't matter if there is no phone or 3G on it.
Thanks!
No Honeycomb for SGT7 I'm afraid...
There was an unnoficial port being worked on but development has been stopped since ICS came out.
There's an ICS (CM9) build on the development forums, that isn't recommended for people that are new to the whole flashing scene since it is still in development and has a few bugs (camera doesn't work for example). This is your best bet for tablet UI on SGT7. There's also icedBoca by Dizgustipated which is his own version of CM9, also has bugs and still in development. Do NOT flash these ROMS if you don't know what you're doing and if you will be annoyed by a few bugs.
CM9 by Te4m
icedBoca by Dizgustipated
Actually, although it was never completed, as Stilm said, I did play with it for a couple of weeks and found it mostly usable...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288943
I would strongly recommend going for an ICS build when they're ready though, but just not yet. Development will obviously be an ongoing thing for the ICS builds but it does look like HC development has stopped.
