I don't want to call it a tweak, but I can't find another word what can describe it.
I've my Xperia Arc S since two days and I am playing a bit around with it.
What I've seen is, that I hate the power button and the lockscreen looks good, but I don't like the sliding. But I don't lke 3rd party lockscreen apps, too, because they eat memory and sometimes you have to wait for them to unlock the phone.
Some guys knew my MIUI Roms for Nexus One, Nexus S and Incredible S, but with Arc S I've thought that I don't want to do any development.
But hey, trying some things are not as bad.
So:
If you don't like lock screen sliding, you can do the following
- open a root explorer on your Arc (S)
- navigate to /data/local
- make a new file there
- call it "enable_menu_key"
- give it the right permissions, as the other files in that folder have
Then you can unlock your phone with Home key (opens to lock screen) and then simply pressing menu key for going to the home screen
This is a simple thing, you can try it. I'm new to Xperia Arc. Don't cry too loud if it was a bad idea to post this. If you can use it, be happy with it.
And a bit more power to your phone:
Open the build.prop in the /system folder, search for "dalvik heap size" and change it from 32 to 48. Then you have to reboot. It's a bt more speed or less laggy.

Not so easy. This what I have posted is an very old hack left from the Google programmers while making Android.
They don't want to unlock the phones every time while coding and testing.
But you're right, home key is better.
If anyone has an idea... ;-)

For other keys you would need to change Android code.
See android sourcecode in: /frameworks/base/policy/src/com/android/internal/policy/impl/LockScreen.java
You can easily add any key to this But for that you would need to compile your own version of Android OR lockscreen.
But i personally don't like this "feature" much. It's very insecure if you carry the phone in your pocket You could accidently unlock the phone ...

hi Bin4ry i agree with u... i have even disabled "wake using home button" on my ARC...
actually wht i was thinking is can we use the second level of camera button (the click image mode not focus mode) to act as a power button?

Simple question. Does anyone else using THS's ICS build think you have to hold the phone a bit too far away from your face for it to work.

Yeah, I've done from various distances and angles.
Most times the error isn't "I didn't recognize you" it is "I didn't see a face" and holding it farther away works better, but its terribly uncomfortable.

I know what I like about this handset.
What I want to know [as being more informative to me] what is not to like about this one.
I'm planning to buy it with contract and use it for another 2 years.
So I'm asking for opinion of these of you that don't change phones every quarter and think about annoyances in long shot.
My highlights:
Most worrying info I have found about this handset is:
A) music reproduction is poor [as on gsmarena] - is there any other review that uses synthetic test? [I use phone to listen to a music for 5h a day]
B) no notification LED - never had phone without it, how big pain is it? [I know about noLED app, it MAY drain battery]
C) fairly often on holidays I take film shoots of people, is rubbish focus still an issue or was it fixed, or is fixed with custom ROM [I'll head to andro development once I'll finish this post ]
Handset will be bought in UK.

About the music, I think there is nothing wrong with it. I think it depends more on your headset. And dsp manager helps a lot .
About camera, it's an excellent camera in good light and in bad light it isn't that bad only there is some noise in pictures taken in bad light condition.

Have you tried even switching to video recording mode in partly lit room? Room is good enough to read but not good enough for this crap phone to record video.

There's no custom Roms. Bootloader is locked and no way to unlock it. Battery life is not that good. Phone gets hot. If the first two get fixed at any time, the last will most likely be fixed by custom Roms.
Notification via key LED works quite well.

I can imagine that LED that lit soft buttons is being used by noLED application - smart if true. Why "quite well" not "very well" ?
I realize that putting question about sound Q in poll is subjective, but I keep in mind gsmarena results too.
Yes I went to 'development' and noticed that there is no custom ROM, but also this is fairly new phone... anyway I'm on PAYG for next 3 or 7 or 11 weeks and waiting for better news about LG or better price of S3 [17.50pm vs 22.50pm on mobiles]

It's not the NoLed app, but there's the LG Notification app linked in the Themes & Apps section. As you guessed right it uses the LED that lights the buttons. Can be set up to different events and blinking frequencies and stuff, it takes a while to set it up. That's why i wrote "quite well". It's not out-of-the-box, but if you set it right, it works "very well", at least for me. Of course it can only do what the LED supports, so it's only white light and no fading.
Is the video focus issue solved with an update? I didn't see it on lists of the changes on the updates, maybe i missed it. With which update was it solved?
I am most upset by the sound quality of the phone speaker as it is at the back of the phone so miss a lot of incoming calls if you put you phone in your pocket even though volumn set to highest!. It sucks when you use the speaker phone during a call. Same problem for the the alarm, it is not loud enough unless you place it with the back facing up

Yeah but there is now an issue with the exposure in a dark, or slightly dark, area. It's way underexposed.
upset bootlocker locked. thus still no custom to make device better.

There is a way to unlock the bootloader, we just havent figured it out yet. There might even be a solution before the end of september.

there might be a ways to root it, but i doubt that unlocking bootloader will be possible (not that i know too much about it)

I dont know about this stuff either, but i read about this app that unlocks the bootloader on verizon galaxy s3. If there is any way to do this for our phone, it would be awesome.
Damn xda won't let me post links, but check "VZW GS3 EZ-Unlock" on google play.
I just now figured out it cannot do USB-OTG although all other new phones can. Dealbreaker!
VOIP / SIP is cut away although it is standard in ICS. Thanks LG!
Touchscreen does not work well under extreme situations / when capacitively loaded (cold wind, charger connected, litte moisture, etc.)
Although the GNSS chipset can do GLONASS it is switched off can only do GPS. Thanks LG!
When videochatting on SKYPE ( if it runs properly at all ) and charger is connected, still the battery drains ! The charger is not able to supply enough power when the whole system is running at max consumption. WTF ? Absolute no go ! Another Dealbreaker !
No open Bootloader! I did not know this. I'm new to android. I thought that rooting is everything. Crap...
Well meanwhile I have had the phone for 2 months, most probably I will not sell it back. I hope the bootloader is somehow opened and there will be a better ROM..
I would prefer the back key to be on the right side.
Also I would rather a menu key rather than a key that shows open apps.

I'm not a developer, and I don't even have the Razr i yet (am waiting until it becomes available in my country, but I have decided to buy it off amazon.de next week if we don't get it here by then), but as far as I know, the softkey buttons are a pretty integral part of the OS, and replace actual capacitive buttons, so they are designed to have a constant function. Maybe there is a custom ROM out there, that enables you to change the function of those buttons, but there aren't any out for the Razr i. But of course, I could be wrong.
I think you're right and I think it would have been a good idea to make it customisable . Clearly that would make it more appealing to the smartphone companies.

I haven't got this phone but I'm 99.9% certain that you can swap the location of softkeys as much as you want. All you need to do is decompile the correct file and change some xml.
I'm happy to help if I can.
Making a menu softkey is trickier. I think it's possible but I might not know how. I do have a few sneaky ideas though.

I like this Game but it really looks ugly on the HTC One when i look at the Game on my Wife´s Glaxy S4 active.

So here is the Solution:
You need root and your System must be mounted as r/w (Reed/Write)
-for example in Viper Rom you can do it by activate it in Venom Tweaks -> Advanced -> Mount system r/w
Than you need to open a Root Explorer for example ES-File-Explorer and need to got to the Folder:
Device/system
than open the build.prop file with a text editing app like ES-Note-Editor
than hit MENU -> EDIT and change the red marked line from HTC ONE to GT-19500:
Save changes and reboot.
You can change the build prop back to normal now but sadly after next restart the better graphic are gone.
First time i had some bad lags in the game but it was solved after going to Venom Tweaks -> Misc -> Minfree setting
and changed it to stock (btw this solved some annoing lags in chrome browser too for me)

I noticed this too on real racing... The graphics are crap compared to when I played it on my iPhone 5.
Feels like I have 720p on a 50" TV as opposed to 1080p on a 40".
try editing your HTC One build.prop to the sgs4 model

Very true for Real Racing. It's smoother and cleaner on my brother's S3 than it is on my One. What would changing the model in build.prop even do?
It would make the play store think our phone is the gs4 and they will run better

So... Pretty much all the raw horsepower in the one is useless for games that don't officially support it? Fragmentation might be the key to me switching back to iOS.
Hey Thx it Works, just edited the build.prop and reinstalled the game!
And now I found out what causes the lag issue: I'm jusing venom Rom and had to change minfree to stock (default was "multitasking") and now all lags are gone. Test it and feedback

After restarting the phone the better graphics are gone
So I changed the build.prop back to Galaxy S4 Mode, restarted the phone and right the better graphics are back.
So it seems we just have a tempsolution..

after flashing the usa FTF i just used my mobile for 10mins and seriously i got a new mobile now! nicely done by Sony

First we won't get kitkat and in March our 18 months are over and Sony has yet made it to get itself out of having to give us kitkat...
Now 4.3. I don't know I expected more. SP got the gloves mode for example and I don't know whether it is just the Vodafone version why aren't we getting an update center?
The cam looks good but lacks of functionality, for example the tap to focus and make picture is gone and the auto mode being chosen every time I open the app is not really optimal.
The lockscreen is a bit rudimentary but we all knew that before yes we got widgets but honestly what do they offer if I have to watch out not opening Walkman or when swiping left and right. Better optional app buttons and to have them on the lower screen half.
Then the Docomo status bar better than what we had before but definitely many steps behind other uis in that case.
Worst for me is that the buttons for navigation are almost third of the screen... Would it kill Sony to make that customizable?
My main parts I'm not yet updating and waiting for the modders to do their best
My Impression
It snappy ,looks nice ram usages is poor I don't know about battery life yet , sound quality seems to be enhanced :louder ,deeper bass, higher treble all round improvement P.S. for those who don't know first start up will be a tad laggy

Stamina mode and camera
- Stamina mode looks like its 2 versions back. It lacks of customization which is in SP and Z series. Besides the (inaccurate) timer there is nothing new. That mode was previously in 4.1.2 just now it looks better.
- Camera - first impression is that it makes better pictures in low light conditions but I cant find settings in menu for resolution and quality - itll be nice if someone tell me where it is.

I didn't know about this. I rely on tap to focus (as someone who knows absolutely nothing about taking a good picture)

I passionately hate the current Xperia lock screen. While I like using other lockscreens, sometimes the default lock screen over-rides it anyway, I think when memory is low. I know I can use a pin, pattern, etc, but I want to be able to look at my phone for a very few short seconds without all the fiddling. Worst Xperia lock screen yet. Even the X10 lock screen was better.

I'm glad this is present, my partner's SP has had it since updating to 4.1 and I've always been a little envious

It doesn't?? Now that surprises me, considering the new walkman app is included in the feature list, and the new walkman app (at least for the SP) does have built in music unlimited :-/

You're most likely in Super auto mode... Got to switch to manual mode first and then enter the settings

i see a few bugs
First of all, what happened to the stock browser. is it android policy to pass to chrome in 4.3? I dont know about you, bt i dont feel any butter maybe the firmware still needs to get the hang of the device, vut for the moment it feels a bit laggy. Most important: What the hell happened to the volume bar?! i press the volume keys and ony a small grey rectengle appears, no indicator of volume level, i can hear the beeps increassing volume but i dont see it, and if you are in an app like RR3 it doesnt work! anybody had the same problem?
