Unlocked G1 APN settings- Only wants MMS

First off, i would like to say hello XDA, this is my first post on the forum, so bare with me
Okay, here is my problem. I bought a unlocked G1 and i am using it on AT&T, i rooted it and installed CM on it. I DO have unlimited messaging- (texting AND mms, i spoke to a rep. and he told me this) Okay back to point- after i applied the APN settings, i noticed that the "E with arrows up and down" were lit so i knew data was being transferred. right away i deleted the APN so i wont get charged. But what im looking for is a code or app that will DISABLE data, but keep the APN for MMS. I WILL be using the market and other apps ONLY WITH WIFI, NOT DATA!!! So please help me out with this. i have tried APNdroid- and it didnt work (unless i set something wrong, if someone wants to help me with that)and i tried WisyncPlus (again, i dont think i set it right ). So short and simple- I want a app or code that will ONLY USE THE APN FOR MMS- and ONLY USE WIFI for the browser,market,apps,etc...
Not 100% sure, but I've read somewhere that The G1 will use background data intermittently, even after you turn it off. I used it for a week without a data plan, monitored my account at T-Mobile, and they registered my data use, but it was less than 1 mb a day so they weren't charging me.
Just off the top of my head, I remember the threads saying to not put username, password and server blank under apn settings.
Or downloading anycut, or bettercut, to make a shortcut to "testing" and running that will allow you to turn off data. All this was over at androidforums.com
Bump.... )=. I got APNdroid to work as i wanted it to! (only turn on data for mms, then turn off when the MMS was sent, or recieved) but while searching for "g1 battery tips" i installed "Ultimate juice" then un installed it, and then the dreaded E with arrows popped up and was lit. I checked APNdroid and no settings were modified (Disable all APNs, and enable MMS) I tried reinstalling APNdroid. but no luck )= UGH!!!! this is really pissing me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

APN Widget cuts APN for good on latest roms

Hi there,
I've been trying to look around in search and asking in related roms threads but couldn't get any answer.
I'm currently on SuperBad's V1.7, and been using mostly his roms while trying out others.
And I also heavily use the APN widget, usually Toggle Data, to cut my APN when i don't need it and activate it when i do. data connectivity costs a lot where i live.
my problem is that with the latest roms, coming from superbad's v1.5.1 till now, and I've tried also on all roms that use the same stepping Superbad, the APN doesn't reactivate once u've turned it off through the widget, i've tried other APN widgets also, same issue.
even if the APN shows as ON, the data connectivity does not go through.
the only way around i've found is to reboot the phone for APN to work again.
thanks for helping

MMS problem

MMS is acting weird. When Im on 3g I can send MMS and I can receive them. But if someone sends me MMS while Im not on 3g and 5min later I turn on 3g so that it can check for MMS and download it it just wont. There is a message downloading and that it, it doesnt work. Do you know what the problem is?
mms
I have the same issue after update to official froyo i recieve the mms but it just shows downloading and nothing happens i have already used the configuration sms for mms and internet still same :/
and now i discoverred even my camera dont work !
Me too after putting 2.2.1 on fone-read a thread on another forum about the same prob. Some have solved it by deleting the two APN s found in Settings/Wireless and Network/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names and then manually entering them and saving them (this is easily found on your service providers website-check its there first before deleting though)
Didnt work for me though but who knows you may get lucky?

I manually enterd the APN settings but it didnt help I hope there is solution for this, I cant have my 3g on all the time to get mms, my battery will die in few hours
Also if i have Wifi on and 3g on, the dominant is wifi but if MMS comes it doesnt change to 3g and it just says downloading.
anyone has an idea

Won't remember APN

Every time I reboot the phone (a lot of the time after it shuts itself down) The APN setting keeps changing to the wrong APN and I have to manually select the correct one.
There doesn't seem to be any way of deleting the APNs that I dont want to use. Is this possible? Any ideas why it wont remember my default selection?
Discovered this was a network and not a phone issue

[Q] I'm getting MMS stuck on "sending...." with pictures any ideas?

I'm getting MMS stuck on "sending...." with pictures any ideas?
I occasionally send picture messages. but most of the time they get stuck on sending....
some forum posts mention APN on off?
My friend has the same phone and lives with me her MMS were working ok today.
Also i set to auto receive MMS but i got a message with a download button from her. (so i had to manually download it)
What can i do to fix this?
Cheers
I have same issue with Custom Android Rom on my HD2 ... im on o2 and apn etc appear to be fine but stuck stuck stuck!! any help would be great
Had the same problem and tried the same solutions-I checked, double checked, deleted and put apn settings back in but it never made any difference for me. Have found though that if I leave 'Data Network' permanently on I can then both send and recieve mms. If I turn it off and get a mms I get the 'downloading' message but it never actually does when I turn the data back on.
Not much of a solution I admit but it works for me.
its usually your APN settings that cause the MMS to not send. Specifically for my provider (3), there are two APNs that I can set (3services and 3netaccess). I can only send MMS if I set the APN to 3services apparently because this goes through their internal servers first.
If your friend has the same phone and you are both on the same network, check her APN settings and make it the same for you.
MMS only works when data is enabled. Wifi needs to be off.

her settings are the same, her MMS seemed ok but slow, but she has only 3 free per month so i had to stop testing. I get 100 free, so i can send them to myself to test

Interestingly i feel that the problem started after using juice defender. but i could just be being superstitious.
and also, even though it sent ot auto receive MMS (and used to perfectly) it now makes me click download?
I got a new broadband router the other day (Virgin media superhub) but i don't think that's relevant?

Glad the APN worked
I am glad that you were able to get your picture messages working again. Sometimes fixing the APN settings can act only as a band-aid for this issue. If the steps at How to fix an Android phone Stuck on Sending or Downloading when picture messaging doesn’t help… then you might need to contact your service provider because it might be something on their end that’s not configured correctly.
Don’t forget that a backup and reset on an Android device can often fix this issue as well.
