Hello,
I hope it's not the wrong section, but the others are I9000.
I want to flash an I9001. The phone is on 2.3.3 I though.
I've root the phone, now I can go to 2.3.6 by flashing a rom in recovery or do i need to go to 2.3.6 first?

You need to flash (for example) KQ7 with Odin, this updates the whole base of the rom, most new roms are build on KQ7 base so I think that's the right one for you
btw this is the wrong section, i9000 Q&A is the right section
I think we go for broodrom.
But it's important to get first to 2.3.6 stock? Or can we flash the rom directly by odin?
As an ODIN stock ROM also includes modem binaries that we cannot flash over recovery, it is a good idea to get to the latest stock ROM with ODIN and then start with custom ROMs over FeaMod recovery (it's basically CWM). If you have already the latest stock ROM on your 9001, you can use whatever method you prefer.
I think recovery is quicker and easier to use as you don't need a pc near you.
And which last stock 2.3.6 we can flash the best? We live in Holland..., don't know it is important?

Thank you!
I recently upgraded my Note to official ICS (OTA) and I'm not liking it AT ALL! Now I really want to get far away from this update as possible and I'd like to switch to a CM9 nightly Rom. I've that now that I have upgraded to the official ICS Rom, I run the risk of super bricking my device. So now I ask you to help me make sure the following is correct so that I may move on from this wretched update:
DO NOT perform wipes if you are on original Samsung ICS
DO NOT perform wipes if you are on a original Samsung kernel??
Flash back to original Gingerbread Rom using odin BEFORE flashing to CM9
Flash to different kernel??
I've flashed millions of Roms but this one is scary and I just want to make sure haven't missed anything... Have I?
Thanks for you help!!
John J
Just flash a stock directly rootable GB rom, root and put CM9 on it. Then do a factory reset and you're good to go. Went that way few times already.

Thanks a lot man!! This is pretty much what I thought but I wanted to make ABSOLUTE sure! Cheers!
John J
So is the super-brick BUG on the official ICS OTA?? OMG
And yeah go back to gingerbrear via odin, get root then flash any CM9 tru CWM no problems...
I'd like to do something similar to what the OP wants to do however I have rooted and installed CWM on an official/stock ICS rom. So if I wanted to flash back to a stock gingerbread rom would I need to remove CWM and/or un-root?

There is no need to unroot first. You can flash stock GB rom directly via Odin.
I've now flashed to GB but before I move on to a CM9 nightly, do you recommend I flash the CM9 kernel as well? Seems like it is not a prerequisite but I would like to make sure. Thanks.
John J
afaik, when flashing a CM9 Nightly, the eligible kernel is built in, so no need to flash anything but the ROM.
i'm on one of imilkas first CM9 port and it says [email protected] #1 under Kernel version in settings.
Yes. The correct kernel is included in the nightly.
Hello dear XDA peeps
I need some help here or maybe I dont, thats why Im asking!
I rooted and followed all the guides a couple of months back, must be over half a year, and installed ICS Stunner 1.4.19. At that time that was simply the most interesting for my Note. These days when more stable ICS roms seem much more appealing. Altho Im thinking Im waiting for a stable working beta for JB
Since I havent done some ROM loving for quite a while Im quite confused where to begin, do I need to upgrade CWM Manager first? I have version 3.15. Or can I go straight on new ROMs? I spent some time reading about updating CWM today and it seems I have a really dangerous kernel version, 3.0.15-I9220ZLP5-CL295568 and if I understand the CWM Manager thread correctly thats part of the dangerous kernels. Which seems quite dangerous to update it since I cant find a safe version of CWM Manager to update to.
So the bottom question, do I need to update CWM Manager first to do anything safe or update the kernel first to perhaps an old safe rooted GB kernel? All the guides and stuff says the safest way is to first install an old safe GB kernel and then install a ICS or JB kernel (not at the moment tho) but is this the truth in my case?
Anyway, I really appreciate if you could give me some advice here
Thanx in advance

There is newer cf root that is 5.6. This is a safe rooted stock kernel by chainfire with CWM manager.
The devs suggest when installing TW ics custom rom it is recommended to install it while already in ics rom.
First install stock gingerbread rom, while in gingerbread rom do the wiping data, cache, and dalvik and then flash ics rom for clean installation. DO NOT WIPE IN STOCK ICS ROM, DANGEROUS. READ THE WARNING IN THE FORUM.
You can choose any tw custom rom you like.
If you want suggestion on what custom rom just ask i gave you one.
Ok, still not sure what do to first but it is safe to install a GB rom first? Updating CWM isn't that important? What I meant was that I still cant find a fitting version to install. Nearest version is: CF-Root-SGN_DD_ODD_LP8-v5.5-CWM5.zip but thats on the danger list so Im still confused about what version to download.. :/
Perhaps CF-Root-SGN_DD_ODD_LP8-v5.6-CWM5.zip is safe to install tho?
EDIT: I saw that I had cf-root version 5.2, it was CWM Manager that was version 3.15
EDIT: getting a new baseband comes with a rom, no need to install baseband seperatly? For example, getting Cassie's XtraLiteRom Version X LC1 295Mb is getting my baseband LC1 too?

You can flash the cassies custom rom directly over the stunner rom if you want to, just be sure to use ABYSS KERNEL for wiping.
Base band also known as modem. There are many flashable modem to choose so no problem what modem you Want.
If you want to install cassies latest custom rom you will get also the latest CWM recovery and manager.
Uhm ok.. so much information Im confused as usual
I cant find exactly abyss kernel. Can it be this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424/
And can I flash all roms via CWM or do I have to use PC ODIN?
EDIT: found the abyss note kernel, really slow downloading tho.

Thanx peeps!! Now Im off to messing with Parandroid Thanx again!
hi.
i have an Australian N7000B Note, and it is currently rooted on the latest available android in the country for the phone (2.3.6)
i have superuser and CWM installed.
i can boot into CWM and navigate with no worries, but whenever i try to install any custom rom, regardless what rom it is, i get the same error.
i really want to get off this crappy rom that Telstra provides with the phone, so any help is greatly appreciated.
many thanks
pic attatched of error.
Use ODIN to flash a stock ICS or GB ROM and then re-root and add cwm and try again
the issue you face is because your version is the GT-N7000B and the build.prop is for the GT-N7000 so its failing because it believes the ROM is for a different device.
if the product codes do not match up in the build.prop it will fail - this applies to all devices and all ROMs.
you could also open the .zip and find the build.prop and change all of them, But its a pain in the ass !

Because these are for the N7000 if i flash a stock ICS rom on my N7000B what will happen?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8
Put your details in there and it will find you a stock ROM. Ive seen threads where N7000B users have flashed N7000 ROMs without any issues.
EDIT: You CAN use any GT-N7000 firmware !
Awesome! I am downloading the Gingerbread Australian Rom as we speak for the N7000. if i flash it with odin, root it, and then install CWM would it work with installing custom roms such as paranoid android etc?
Yes because the Stock firmware will remove the 'B' and you will have no more install errors
Be sure to follow the instructions to the letter !! and make a nandroid before commencing.

Well, i have a nandroid backup of the current firmware, i made it just after i rooted it.
so, i will flash it with Odin on PC correct? does it require i wipe everything off the phone?
sorry for the questions i am a noob lol
you can wipe before or after it makes no difference so long as your on GB.
Dont ever wipe on ICS unless your on a safe kernel.
But do do a wipe as it will start you off on a fresh clean install

Problem is you are still running Eclair?, Update your ROM to Gingerbread for it to function better with latest apps
but IF you must have only Eclair and want to root it, you can try various rooting tools found at Collections for Android link on my signature

Im on Eclair, but I dont want it anymore, I want to have the new Jelly bean, but cant have acess to root, neither rom manager neither CWM, so cant install nothing by that way... as I tried severals updated.zip and no one can work...
I was thinking, only if I flashed some ROM through ODIN3, like for example:
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326416 as that is possible to flash over odin, and then i can flash some ROM with Jelly Bean through Clockworkmod...
Is that the best way?
It would work if I flash that ROM using ODIN, on top of Eclair 2.1?
Need some help here ^^
EDIT: Just saw that on your sig and in your post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11113557&postcount=1
If I do all those steps, can I install that Rom without any problems?
Even I haven´t root yet? =\

Yes, you need to use ODIN3 to Flash the ROM, since your goal is Jelly Bean, you need to be on Original Gingerbread First, to do that go here and select the Firmware according to your location http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 ..Follow Flashing guide to the dot
Than go here and install a semaphore kernel, which will give you root and CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
after that you need to visit the Jelly Bean Developers thread of your choosing and follow their guide to install Jelly Bean ( BUT be aware Jelly Bean is NOT fully Stable yet)
Darky's Resurrection ROM is for those who are having problems , yours is Just a Normal upgrade, so best use latest Original Firmware, First

Yes, you don't need root for flashing, kernel are flashed same way as flashing ROM's, put the kernel in PDA ( don't tick anything) and press start in odin
