Old Firmware? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
today I got a used Galaxys I9000, it came with the Kernel-Version: 2.6.29 and the Build ECLAIR.AOJG1.
I saw that there is no compatible root for this Build, so do I have to flash a new firemware with odin or shall I do a firemware update via Kies ?
Thank you very much.

If i were you i would update via odin. MUCH quicker and far less hassle, also you can go straight for a custom rom.

can you prefer a rom ? I would need one that allows me to install cm 9 or ICS.
So it needs to be rooted and has CWM installed right ?.
Im afraid to brick my new phone, some im asking.
thank you again.

I prefer you cyanogen 7.1 or a stock with semaphore kernel.

So I upgraded to GINGERBREAD.XWJVI with Kies.
In order to root this version , I'm just flashing this Kernel "CF-Root-XW_DBT_JVI-v3.7-CWM3RFS" from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
right ?
thank you.

Please Someone , I dont wanna destory my phone..

Help with jv rom versions.

Hi
I currently have an vodafone unlocked galaxy running bujv9 rom. and cf-root XWJVH kernel. phone is rooted.
I been looking at kernels which support voodoo sound and other stuff as my one does not.
How do i go from a jvh rom and kernel to say a jvr kernel and rom which supports the voodoo stuff.
Is it a simple wipe then CWM flash new rom then odin jvr kernel. or other way around. Not sure.
Sorry still learning galaxy flashing. well different from HTC flashing.
Cheers.
If you want to try latest rom and a kernel with all features flash stock JVS in odin and then flash Darkcore 4 or Semaphore 1.7 in odin

Your desired rom should have kernel so no need for flashing twice.
You will probably get away with factory reset and cwm flash. Any probs you may have to flash stock first.

There are apps that will do this, but may not work properly (depending on a lot of things). If you're unsuccessful with the app, or if you'd rather another way, the main to go about it is to flash a kernel that is already rooted.
Thanks for your reply, my problem is that i can't find the right cf-root kernal and also because phone locked to network my build number is bujv9,
Flash the stock jvX that you want first then flash the kernel from odin as pda, safe way

[Q] About Semaphore kernel flashing

hi,
i have stock Galaxy s i9000 with 2.3.4 XXJVP.. i want to install Semaphore kernel... hoping it will improve overall performance and give even better performance with games like asphalt 6,,..
all i want to know is that can flash it over my stock with SGS kernel flasher??? or are there any other pre requirements for it???
or is there any better kernel for playing games lag free??
THX
Ny reply??? :-(
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
You can install this Kernel via Odin easily, and YES it will improve your overall performance
Ps.:Flash Gingerbread 2.3.6 its really good
Remember to disable lagfix.
The best kernels for playing games on gingerbread roms are the Semaphore Bigmem kernels. But if you really want lag-free and super smooth gaming, you should consider using froyo 2.2.1 roms.
Oh, and to answer your question, yes you can flash the kernel using the kernel flasher app, but it's probably safer to use Odin.
Thx fr the replies...
I would want to know which version of semaphore to download..??? Thrre are two versions.. 2.1 & a bm version ...

How do you do this?
you should download the RIGHT kernel, if you have JVP download the kernel for JVP ,not the kernel for JVZ.
for gaming and performance TalonDEV kernel is the best
Semaphore kernels link
Hey can someone give me the link to semaphore jvt 1.9.2 kernel?
TIA

If you dont know, you probably dont have to. My guess is you have never used lagfix or ext4. if you think you might have, go to cwm recovery - shut down phone, hit the 3 button combo (power + home + volume up) until samsung galaxy boot screen appears and leave the buttons immediately. in the recovery mode, go to advanced and see if theres any option for Lagfix or Ext4.

No you should not do that. Use a kernal that is meant for your firmaware. If you want to flash semaphore 2.1.1, first upgrade your firware to JVZ using Odin. The are plenty of links to this firware under General.

Hey sorry have been away. Well you should be able to flash a kernel but there arent many out there and i am a little wary of flashing a kernel as they are all in a very experimental stage. Moreover, i find teamhacksung's (pawitp's) build to be more stable and the aries kernel was a whole lot more better. hated glitch the moment i flashed it.
Happy flashing...

[Q] CyanogenMOD 7.2.0 RC5.5 - Galaxy mini S5570LWMKPJ

Hello. Can I flash CyanogenMOD 7.2.0 RC5.5 on Galaxy Mini with the following firmware:
PDA: S5570LWMKPJ
CSC: S5570LUUBKP8
Currently running Gingerbread 2.3.6 with root. Have also flashed CWM
No. Squadzone wrote that you need a KPI, KPL or KPK stock rom. However you can just try and see if it works, but maybe you'll get some troubles...
Could I flash the required stock rom instead, then go ahead and flash cyanogen mod?

Actually, you can use any baseband you like.. I have used plenty of them and did not have any issues. from EU to Latin AM firmware.. but for best results, you use the preferred baseband that developers specify..

He's right, buddy.
I've tried 2.3.6 with CM7 RC5.5. And I got several problems. When I play Angry Birds, sometimes it closed itself, sometimes the phone reboot after I send message & lock the screen. Sometimes the screen doesn't coming back after I lock it.
So, use recommended baseband. It'll work for the best.

i had same baseband and CyanogenMOD works prefectly.
i've tried also with S5570JVKT1 and still works fine.
i think that any baseband with GB is fine for Cyanogen ( but i've not tried all )
XXKPK is the best base for cm doesnt matter if its squads or the rc0 fom madteam or mebitek!! Choose kpk and you dont get in trouble ;-)

You mean you want to flash LRG kernel so that you can upgrade to 4.0.4? Why dont you download stock XXLRQ (German) firmware from dr.ketan's thread and simply flash using odin. Its the latest 4.0.4 rom.

To change build number you will need to flash updated rom.
This is what it means in "Settings / About Phone"
Baseband version - This is your Modem
Kernel Version - Your Kernel
Build number - your ROM
You need to flash an updated ROM to change to 4.0.4. Latest is LRQ

Find the XXLRQ3 (Germany) in there and flash it. It will restore back the LRQ3 on to your phone, together with the stock kernel that comes along with it.

[Q] what can I do with my froyo tab?

hi guys!!
first of all, I searched and found a lot of confusing information and I'm hoping someone can help me directly like this...
I have a rooted P1000 running froyo:
baseband P1000XXJPZ
kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1
build FROYO.XWJMK
I downloaded the SGT bootloader patch app found on xda and it says:
device: GT-P1000 european/international/unbranded
bootloaders - signed!
signed: PBL, SBL, kernel
not signed: SBL_backup
assessment: can only flash signed firmwares
and it gives me the option to patch bootloaders
if I understand correctly, I can flash cf-root kernel via odin and get cwm and then flash any rom?
if so, what about the bootloaders and the right cf-root to download?
most of all, my goal is to upgrade my tab...the tv out function is a must for me so the ics and jb are out, right? if I understand right, the tv out feature doesn't work with them?
what about gingerbread and honeycomb?
what to do?
please help and thank you for reading

I saw that, but that doesnt answer my questions..
does the tv out work?
how do I get cwm?
and is it safe to do what it takes considering the model and the specs I wrote above?
I don't know if tv works.

do you know is it safe considering the bootloaders and froyo on my tab?
in your other thread you read about using overcome method.
The GB stock safe v5 rom files contains GB bootloader.
By flashing that you shall have GB bootloader and from then on you are good.
It is still best to upgrade to GB before installing CWM by any means you choose (although overcome kernel on top of GB stock safe v5 is the safest and sure way).
And please don't run the bootloader patcher once you are on GB based.

great, thanks!
one more thing, do I have to patch the bootloader first with that app while on froyo?
and if I run that method, I'll have GB on my tab, right?
is it stock GB or a modified rom? I'm asking to see if the tv out function will work...
thanks again
You should be able to flash gb without patching.
Because the package is a stock gb Rom jq1 ( Italian).
You may want to go all the way to overcome Rom 4.1 by following the complete guide to the end.
That will be a modified Rom and tv out working.
