What is SafeStrap? and can it work for the Bionic? - Motorola Droid Bionic

After reading this: http://briefmobile.com/droid-razr-receives-ice-cream-sandwich-port
I got a little excited, probably for nothing, but is it possible to use the same techniques for the Bionic? I know something similar happened with CM7 on the bionic but I havent seen any development for that since.

look a little bit harder friend.
Google hash code safestrap and it'll guide you to the hash code blog... on there are instructions for installing safestrap. All of it assumes you're rooted already, if you aren't, look in development, there are a few ways to do it.

You don't. Not sure what you want to "mod" but just about everything not available on the market, and possibly everything seen here requires root. It's not hard, just do it.
I just want to be able to do all these gorgeous things http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=519
Download the .zip file, place it into your SD card, reboot into recovery mode (phone needs to be rooted by the way) by holding the HOME key and POWER key, select aaply sdcard:choose zip, select the .zip you just downloaded.

Have to root. Like I said most things in this forum require root. Best thing you can do if you have one of these. Even my wife was able to root hers.

not to be mean or anything but i wouldn't have seen this if he didn't make a thread about it since i don't read the tutorial threads. not everyone lives 24/7 on the forum and knows every post thats in every thread and anyone has the right to make their own thread. eventually this will get burried 10 pages deep. still it's pretty cool that the vogue is making the "news" but kinda crappy that there is no mention of dzo's great work getting android as functional as it is. honestly if xda had a developer of the year award dzo would win.

Yeah really, can't believe that Crobs let him give him credit he even acted like it was so easy like changing your shoelaces. Not to mention the style of that writer is pretty weaksauce. He even mentioned 15k views for crobs thread when DZO is around a million. Talk about writing a story out of your ass I couldn't believe it was a real wired article.

Thats why when the writer tried getting me to give input for the story, I didnt email her back because I had nothing to do with porting android to the vogue. I knew that if I had input on the story there would be backlash. But if it were me, I would have mentioned everyone who I thought had anything to do with getting this done.

I mean don't get me wrong, Crobs helped a bunch of people out with that tutorial, and there's nothing wrong with interviewing a USER of the port. He should have done like you say, talk about his / your contribution, but also definitely what DZO did... not just brush it off like it's nothing - Like he just went to google.com and downloaded androidforvogue.cab and installed!!
Obviously this writer wasn't too bright / didn't do a shred of research before writing the article. Oh well, anyone who actually looks into this knows the real story!

Droid X Security Measures

As outlined by Droid dev Steven Bird: http://stevenbird.info/2010/07/10/the-droidx-security-and-discovery/
I know absolutely nothing about Android development, but here's hoping that another dev here can make sense of it.
I love the confidence.

An "efuse" hardware chip? Wow Motorola!
I like the screen of the droid x, I like the size, but there is no way I could in good conscience buy this phone. Motorola has just slapped the dev community in the face.
Even Iphone doesn't have this BS , i guess Motorola one upped apple by kicking customers twice in the balls.
couldn't they run into some legal issues with this efuse method?
what about women?

What we need to do is setup a site called "WeWant2RootDroidX.com" and make all tech blogs in the world link to it.

The Droid X is already rooted though. The bootloader is what everyone is concerned about.

Link to news of root?
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010...-the-droid-x-may-not-lead-to-a-bricked-phone/
Apparently the original Droid has the same "eFuse". I think we need to reserve judgement until we find out if Moto is utilizing it or not. Just because it's there doesn't mean it's in use.
I was about to say the same thing, this chip is nothing new and doesn't stop you from rooting, get real, they even advertised the ability to root this phone in their ads

I don't know if I've seen an ad talking about root, but...
I talked to a device tester today and apparently there is something VERY different about the Droid X bootloader. They had VERY specific instructions from Moto that if the bootloader (MBM) didn't match exactly what they required to send the phone back to have the MBM updated. If it wasn't it would corrupt the phone.
Not sure if this is the same as the "eFuse", but should be interesting to see what happens the first time someone tries to mess with the bootloader.
Sorry for any misunderstanding. I dont have anything that works.

I think he means a side by side comparison of each ROM based on features, modems, kernels, etc
Difficult due to the ever changing nature of each ROM and the ability to swap out kernels and modems. However, it's a good way to compare the ROMs without having to dig through hundreds of posts in the dev forum

You'd be better off going down the threads in the dev section and reading the first few posts. I guess you could use that list click the links but other than knowing what each rom is based off, it's pretty much useless.

It does tell you kernel, modem, known issues, and release date of most current version (admittedly that part does need updated more often). Which I grieve is about 70-80% of what op asked for. What do you want it to do, install rom for you, too?

if you to other phone's forums they have stickies for available roms and their features....comparing to them...this is little less information and not properly updated....
I went to 6 or 7 other forums, and looked in the development stickies. All I saw was was a list of roms, etc. no mention of more then 1 fact about rom. Tell me again how that'd BETTER?

First time poster so I hope this is an acceptable place for this question. Can someone tell me if and which ROM is the most basic? By this I mean it is a blank slate with everything removed besides items needed to operate the phone, mms/sms, camera and internet browsing. Basically everything removed that cannot be replaced by an app from the market. I tried Preception (I think it was that one) and it was ok for a couple days and then it became unstable so I am using Serendipity.
Thanks everyone...

Stability, try andromeda, basic, go cognition. I run andromeda. There is a reason that rom has been around for so long and the dev thread is so short and always on the second or third page of the forums. Just read that thread and you will see the stabiliy.

I tried Cognition a couple months ago but something happened. Not really sure what. I think I used SGS and removed too much stuff and thought it would be easier to just reflash. I was going to go back to it but it looks like the dev may be awol from reading the thread.
I will try andromeda but I am a minimalist and would like for my phone to be the same where if I personally don't need it but it is available from the market or other means then I don't want it on my phone. (not sure if that makes sense but I am pretty new in the custom phone world)

Such a useless thread. Why even bother posting it?
Custom recovery is quite difficult, and we aren't even sure if its possible.
First someone who actually knows how to make hijacked recoveries (koush) would need a testing device. So if you want a recovery so bad, pony up your D3 and send it to koush.
Even if you DID send your device, theres no Guarantee hell obtain a hijacked recovery seeing as Motorola may have patched the process previously used.

Just give it time people... it will come. I remember when I got my X2, it seemed as if support would never come, But it did. Now that the wife has her D3 I am back to the waiting game. I must say though, progress seems to be moving much faster than with the X2.
