Wifi kills my reception - Motorola Droid Bionic

I am on the leaked update and have always had crappy reception in my house. I have 2 different wifi networks and a total of 3 wifi routers. I also have a z-wave network. None of this had ever interfered when I had AT&T with my captivate. For some reason, my signal goes to **** when I turn on my wifi. If I then it off, I watch the bars go right back up to 4. Turn it on, down to 1. Anyone else seen this problem?

no, b/c I stay on WiFi at home, and my cell signal always looks fine.

What bands does your Z-wave support?

It has to be something internal to the phone. When I have my wifi off, I get excellent cellular and data reception.

Same here wifi knocks me from 3 bars to 1

Signal not 3g or edge but just G?

I was driving to Carmel, Indiana from Dayton and stopped in Richmond. Signal went to from 3g to edge to no signal. Then all the sudden I just see G. Anyone else ever seen this? If so, is it just the 1g network or does that even exist?

I've seen it before in my travels. Not quite sure what causes it to display that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
That would be 1G, if I'm correct. Some areas of the country are still lagging enough behind (or the signal strength of Edge or higher isn't strong enough) that you will see the G logo when you're getting G coverage.

Possible work around for tmobile for areas with bad reception

I live in Warren Michigan and have awesome service outside and on top floors of buildings or atleast by a Window but on main floors, basements and in buildings reception sucks but there is usually wifi so I switched my mobile network to 2g only and use wifi I get full bars in the basement now when I do this with 2g works just fine for text and making calls wifi does the rest.
Also I did a search to find similar post and didn't get anything but I did it through the phone app.

2G is always a good thing to enable when you're on WiFi. You don't need the fast internet due to WiFi and call quality is sufficient.
And you're saving a lot of battery life.

Yea I just figured it out yesterday And noticing how good my battery is doing today

When my phone tries to connect to 3G it ends up with a very weak signal or no signal at all in parts of my home (also Michigan btw), so I created a Tasker profile to force 2G when I'm at home based on a GPS location, and as I already use Tasker to set volume, etc. when I arrive home this was a seamless fix.

4g issues on Optus network

This is an ongoing gripe of mine. I'm wondering if it's just me or if other people have this problem. When I'm on 4g it intermittently turns off data for a few seconds. The 4g icon goes away and comes back a few seconds later interrupting my connection. Only happens on 4g. If I set the mobile network to just 2g or 3g I don't have this problem. I've tried lots of different modems. So I'm wondering if it's an Optus thing or an issue with my phone? ?

probably poor coverage of 4G network
Why 4G when 3G is enough for watching video etc etc?
And it drain more battery also

I'm literally right next to a big city. Its not a coverage thing. If I have a 4g phone why not use it. I get about 24 hours of battery life from it so that's not an issue

Connectivity issues like the gs4

Anyone having issues keeping LTE or a wifi signal? I had this on my gs4 and it infuriated me. Happening Again On The note. I didn't have the issue with the HTC one or note 2.
Using wifi analyzer the wifi signal looks good. Idk why it's being so slow and unstable. Newer linksys n router.

yeah i think im having same issues where my wifi tends to disconnect then reconnect.

Yup. I turned off the setting where it turns off wifi completely if the signal is unstable. Kept doing it while using my chromecast so it disconnected from it. None of my other devices have an issue

I turned off the wifi scanning and I got a message about my wifi signal being bad even though I'm 10 feet in a direct line to my router. I also cannot keep an LTE signal around my house, but my S4 manages to without issues. Turning on airplane mode will lock an LTE signal for about 2 minutes and it reverts back to 4G.

I turned that off as well. Having it off or on hasn't affected much it seems. I'm also very close to my router with nothing blocking. I don't get it, thought the plastic was supposed to improve connectivity?
Like I said, I've only had issues on this and the gs4. Girlfriend has a gs3 which doesn't have issues.

Maybe you just keep getting a lemon device? Mine seems to work fine and my S4 did too
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 5
Possibly. I read about others having these issues on the gs4. Obviously not everyone it would be my luck to keep getting lemons.

LTE
Yep, got mine yesterday (10.5) and it wont hold onto LTE. I can turn on and off Airplane mode and it will lock onto LTE immediately, but after about a minute, it drops back to 4G. NONE of my other phones did this (S3, S4, HTC 1, Optimus G Pro, Skyrocket, etc...)

WiFi and LTE at the same time?

Does anyone have a issue while being on WiFi and the LTE is still being didplayed? My device does this is there a way to eliminate the LTE while being on WiFi?

This phone prefers LTE, I have a very week and unstable LTE at my house so it's constantly cutting in and out. When I'm at home or work I set the phone to CDMA only. Look under mobile data settings. My battery lasts WAY longer and don't have a problem with getting calls. There is zero benefit to being on LTE when you are using wifi. Since LTE at the moment is data only. Only annoying part is switching it back and forth. I wish there was a widget for it or could set tasker to do it automatically.

Yea
LTE is built in to the SoC so when activated, it doesn't turn off. Unlike previous phones who had an external LTE radio, the battery usage is minimal. So overall you are saving battery. and true if you have weak or no LTE signal turning it off will help.

SoC = System on a Chip so LTE, CPU, GPU, CDMA, 3G etc... Are all on 1 chip the Snapdragon 801. Older phones had separate components and used more power but the components could be turned off when not needed. When you are switching to CDMA only you are not just turning off LTE you are changing the core settings on the chip.

I most definitely agree. I have an Airave at home and I have to manually switch to CDMA only while at home for the phone to connect to it. I have a very weak LTE signal so the phone automatically tries to connect to it. Very frustrating. Called airave supprt who said they are aware of the problem and are trying to work on a solution, but for now just manually switch to CDMA only when I get home.
