Grand Theft Auto 3 - Motorola Droid 3

Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anybody purchased GTA 3 today? (It just came out!)
The Droid 3 wasn't listed on the supported devices, but I can see it in the market, and I was wondering if anyone picked it up and has it working on a D3?
Thanks!

It says its compatible with the Droid 3, will try later.

Does it? I didn't see it on the list of supported devices.. and unfortunately nobody has a review of it saying it works on the D3 (why don't people like this phone, it has a freakin keyboard!)
Whatever, I'm buying it anyway... should work on my transformer if it doesn't work on the D3

FYI, the game crashes right to the home screen after the title screen comes up. Looks like it doesn't work

What I read was that there's like 4 version.. GTA3, GTAIII GTA 3, etcetc. And some seem to work on some phones while not working on others

It doesn't work, looks like they aren't supporting OMAP/PowerVR phones yet. But there is hope as they are adding support for the Galaxy Nexus an OMAP/PowerVR phone, and I imagine that release will support similar phones. NFL 12 did this. I would have thought OMAP/PowerVR would be the first to get the game since this seems to be where are the new phones are headed (or at least the Nexus series), but I imagine porting a game takes a while so who knows how long they've been working.

Hi all...
Verzion 1.1 works on my Droid 3 without problem.
I must use apk + data for i9000
I tried play the game with HDMI output on my TV and......GREAD

wow it really does work

Tried it on my bionic and it doesn't work. Crashes.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App

I have a few glitches...trees are giant green blobs, glass doesn't show up, and the graphics seem lower quality. But still glad it runs!

Version 1.1 is working, I had to obtain the apk since the Android market says its incompatible with the Droid 3 yet Rockstar says they added Droid Bionic support (spec wise they are practically the same)
Graphics are good but laggy, I downloaded them on my phone over wifi. Either way its still pretty amazing that a game that required then then pretty new PS2 can now run on a phone 10 years later.
The nice part is some of the keyboard buttons work, but I don't see a way to remap keys in the options.
The arrow keys work and also:
w - look up
a - look left
s - look down
d - look right
f, enter - enter/exit car
c - change view
space - jump (brake in car)

Where did you find the apk? I tried installing 1.1 from 2 different sites and both did not work. I will eventually purchase this, if Rockstar ever makes a compatible version...

UPDATE: 1.1 works.

Ill confirm this is working. No lag on mine running CM9. Smooth as silk!
Sent from my CM9ICS-D3 using XDA App

It works until I touch the screen and try to skip beginning videos/animations

1.1 works okay a bit hard to control but still fun. I have not tried 1.2 as of yet rumor is it runs on all devices but idk

I bought it from the market today. It's on sale for the holidays at $2.99. Seems to be working fine. When I first installed, it froze during the opening video and I had to do a battery pull. But now it's working great.
I just wish they had a keyboard shortcut to punch/shoot. But using W to accelerate and the arrow keys make it very playable.

Im happy that I saw the copy I bought on the first day back in my "not installed" list.. I hated using the copy I downloaded. I want the updates immediately!
Still have giant crazy block trees, but it runs better now

Oh man, used to love this game on the pc! Totally getting it!!

3d games on G Tab

I've done all the market hacks and tried all the tricks but im wondering why most of the actual 3d games i want to get to show off the muscle that this great little tegra 2 tablet can flex.
it seems like the games i want on here right now "pocket legend" and "rocket bunnies" don't show up in the market and I was looking forward to "dungeon defenders"
I think there needs to be a big push of actually finding a way to get the full market that my Nexus One gets...
This is mostly why i bought the tablet, and thanks to all the great devs here we've been able to get "almost" everything working (Thanks roebeet, et all)
maybe we can make a nice thread with some different market fingerprints and post market results? (or any other suggestions)
I am currently running the latest Vegantab beta4 fyi.

Well, as the guy who has tried all the market fingerprints and build.prop stuff and wrote the thread on the "full" market fix, I can tell you with some confidence that Pocket Legends and some of the other 3d games are a known issue - I have tried changing every build.prop setting to match that of my Nexus One (which finds those apps with no problem), and there are still a handful of 3d games that will not show up. I have also found that if you change too many of the settings in build.prop, you will eventually bootloop your G Tablet because Android itself gets confused about what it's running on.
You can find my notes on the subject in my posts on my thread in this forum on Full Market Fix.
In summary - the issue seems to be more than just using a different Market Fingerprint. That does not solve the problem, though it may make a few addition or a few less items show up. Right now, by most of my metrics, we have at least 95% of the items in Market showing up.
BTW, I have seen posts stating that the work around for Pocket Legends has been to download directly from their site, though I have not done so myself.
My understanding is that the CyanogenMod ROM for G Tablet does not require the Maket Fix and has no issues with missing items in Market because of the way the ROM image is built. I think the person to ask about this is bekriebel who built CyanogenMod for G Tablet - he can explain the concept of release-keys better than I can and how Market supports it out of the box on the CM ROM.
Unfortunately, it's a bit outside of my time availability right now to work much more on this, having already spent a day or more figuring out what I figured out. But please keep me in the loop if you figure anything else out!
I just thought it would be good to have a good constructive conversation about why else it might not be working... so the build.prop isnt the thing then.
its sad that 3d games are not showing up when this device was built for 3d gaming!
Pocket legends shows up on mine. got it installed...lemme try the other one..
EDIT: Strange they arent showing up anymore. when i was on Cyanogen 6.1 i Had them showing up. then again I didnt have the new market that looks like xbox live. strange...

this is what I'm refering to its so spotty. there is this great drawing app that i purchased that id love to use on the tab called "sketchbook mobile" but its not showing up for me either.
I know there have been lots of people working on it but it would be great if we could somehow compare market search results on some of them to find the best?
also if cyanogenmod has more working downloads is there anyway that the market from cyanogenmod can be rolled into Vegantab?
Dungeon Defenders is amazing its based on the unreal engine and really shows off this hardware.
If we are patient I am sure there will be many amazing games in the future for this CPU/chipset.
I had originally intended to only use the gtab until a good windows7 tab was released but after seeing Dungeon defenders on this system I seriously doubt any windows based tab will be able to come close to this tab for some time and I am sure the cost of a system like that will be much higher.
U need to check out this game to understand what I mean.

Agreed, DD plays perfectly on the gtab. Hopefully this is just the beginning of things to come once Honeycomb is in place and developers start making apps with tablets in mind.

NDS4Droid

Nintendo DS Emulator got released for droid:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.chaos.nds4droid&feature=search_result
I don't think it takes advantage of dual-core processors yet though, nor does it seem to be tablet optimized. Since it just got released its probably not very optimized at all, but hey it works!
I tried playing Pokemon Platinum and i found it too slow to play. Has anyone else had better luck with other games?

To get it to launch you have to put the xoom in portrait mode, then launch the app. It wont launch in landscape mode...lol
I'd be tempted to buy and backup just in case it gets removed from the market or something, and to support the dev's work on getting it optimized. But $6 is way too steep for a app before anyone's reporting it being playable yet.
Version 1.1.4, the latest at the moment I believe, launches on mine in portrait only also, but games are so slow.
In pokemon soulsilver, it took 5 minutes to get the character to take 3 steps left to walk downstairs from his room.
Also not keen about switching between buttons and touch screen all the time, but this is minor compared to the games running at a glacial pace.
But, ya, it is new and I'm sure the dev can squeeze a lot more out of it.
I cant seem to use the touchscreen when playing this...are you guys having issues with the touchscreen as well?
-.- tap the button on the top left and the touchscreen will be available to be used.

You do realize this thread was started April 6th?
Its better to not read a thread and make a snyde comment about it that adds nothing to the conversation, than it is to read the thread and say something worthwhile.

Playstation emulation on Xoom

I'm aware that the game compatibility thread covers emulation.
But I thought I'd make a thread to specifically discuss playstation emulation.
I downloaded psx4droid 3.0.0 from the dev site, but it doesn't work on my Xoom, just closes when I open an iso, and says running in the task bar. But doesn't do anything. If you click on it, it closes.
A google search says that 3.0.1 is available, but their site seems to be down at the moment.
I tried FPse, with changing the settings. It worked. But the set to small screen doesn't stick. Have to reset it each time.
And I can't get the wii controller to work with it.
Anyone have any luck?
Found a download for psx4droid 3.0.1 from an alternate source, because zodttd still seems to be down. And the problem is the same. Assign a bios file, have 2 different ones, and then launch an iso or bin file and the app closes and a message comes up in the task bar at the bottom, if you click on it, it brings you back to iso selection.
Well im glad I'm not the only one.. thought maybe it was a bad game file
Yea, this is going to be hard for zodttd because he even stated himself on his site that he doesn't have the new latest android devices so he is doing the best he can with what he has...which to be honest I am amazed he is even still working on it after it got taken off the market.
Oh, and p.s. his site seems to be back up for now: http://www.zodttd.com/wp/
I use FPSE. In landscape, full screen with screen filtering and the enhanced sound emulation at 0 frameskip I play Mortal kombat mythologies, trilogy, and castlevania symphony of the night at full speed no problem. overclocked 1.5 ghz.
I've also got the same problem with psx4droid. I'm gonna try fpse right now.

All you have to do with FPSE and the screen size issue is tab out and tab right back in. It is a minor bug that the developer will hopefully address soon.
You will only have to do this once when loading the emulator.
Also make sure you have HLE mode disabled if you are intending to use the emulator with a proper BIOS.
FPSE isn't as polished overall as psx4droid, but I have found it to handle games a little better. I couldn't get past the first Quistis cutscene of FF8 with psx4droid but maybe this has been corrected now.
I have both psx4droid(only rom tested was metal gear solid) and fpse working on my xoom. I disabled compatibility in spare parts if that may affect it.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
FPse for Android is a really solid Playstation Emulator. Its a paint to get started since the Roms arn't 4MB like N64 and Snes . But once you get through that its very enjoyable.
I also use FPse with the wiimote controller.
Makesure you set the wiimote to the active input keyboard, or it wont work in fpse.
Just checked the site and they've released 3.0.5. It specifically states it's compatible with the Xoom. I installed it and i'm trying it out now.
Yeah...still doesn't work...
fpse doesn't work for me at all...any attempt to disable HLE mode just results in a force close for the next action I attempt, and games won't run with it on either, so I'm kinda stuck. Does this happen to anyone else? I'm running fpse v0.10.39.
Edit: Actually, nevermind. I updated to 10.41 and it's great now, but I can't get that custom overlay working. What am I doing wrong...
Looks like I'm grabbing a classic controller and loading up some metal gear solid for my lunch breaks ha

FPSe (latest version) is running pretty smoothly on my Xoom; tested it with Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9 and I'm getting pretty good performance .
Using 0.10.43 and BIOS scph1001
Streetfighter collection and wipeout running well. Just wish they'd boost the resolution a bit for the new tablets. Or correct me if I'm wrong but this is def lower res than a ps1, isn't it?
Sent from my MZ604 using Tapatalk
i'm not too sure about the resolution. You can turn on graphics filtering but tends to lag the crap out of some games. I think it mostly looks the way it should though. PS1 games were very jaggy, even the sprite based ones.
Maybe it's just a Rose tinted view of the past which is making me remember better graphics in wipeout? Man I must have spent a whole year of uni playing that damn game!!

Zenonia 3 issues

Everyone else getting a black screen then app closes when trying to launch this game?
I do. My kids hate GtabComb cuz of it

Hmm... tried clem/calk combo and cm7 and no luck either. Looks like its not working on many tablets right now. Heard that it works on xoom but it got no clerification weather it was a wifi only or had 3g. If it requires a network connection we might be out of luck.
Have the same issue on my CM7 gtablet. Checking the comments in market it seems it's because Zenonia 3 looks for an IMEI number. WIFI only so no IMEI, hence crash at start up.
If IMEI is required then the dev is out of the touch with android. I'm also seeing that they are trying to move to a pay to play system which is much harsher than games like shadow era or gun bros. In those games you can get ahead quick if you buy in but the top gear is purchasable with earned in game money. With Z3 you have to pay real cash just to get scrolls to identify item drops. Sux, I loved everything they have made so far and would have paid 3.99 for it(if it worked) just like I'd did with Z1 &Z2 when they came out.

Themed Moto FM Radio?

This is my first post here and I apologise in advance if this is a stupid question. I'm not sure if this should be under themeing or development. I'm using MotoFMRadio for my radio app on the D3 (pic1). It's version 2.3.5. Most of you have probably seen it posted around for the D3 and Bionic. It works well but it's ugly as hell and is missing some graphics. On other phones like the Droid x and X2 it looks realy good. I was wondering if anyone has a version that looks right on the D3. Something similar to the second pic. Has anyone ever tried to get this to look right on the D3. If no one has, could it be done.
Hi and welcome to xda
Well, I was searching for a good version some times ago too, and found this version. It looks great, and the volume control works when the app is minimized too.
Give it a try.
I tried to test this, but couldn't get it to work. This is verion 2.2.4 of the app I'm already using. Version 2.2.3 installs like any sideloading app would and verion 2.2.5 will work if set as a system app and permissions changed. For some reason I can never get version 2.2.4 to work. If I try to just install it, I get a "application not installed" error. If I move it to system/app and change permissions and reboot, it doesn't show up in the app drawer. I'm I doing something wrong here.
Well, I am on 5.7.894, I have it installed as a system app.
I'm on 5.7.906. That may be my problem then. Just out of curiosity, does this version look right on the D3. Does it have the blue background and all the right buttons.
Yes it does, absolutely no graphical glitches or anything. Consider downgrading? I am on 5.7.894 because of the Atrix Camera and this FM Radio!
I honestly had thought about downgrading even before the fm radio thing. I had several Gameloft titiles installed that worked fine before the update. After the last update Splinter Cell and Modern Combat 2 FC constantly and the screen on N.O.V.A. 2 is off center now. I saw on their website after the update they pulled those from the list of D3 compatible games. Kinda feel like I wasted money on games I can't play anymore. A downgrade is definatly a option I'm considering right now. Thanks for the help. I was a little worried the Droid 3 forums were kinda dead.

I have been using a signed version 2.3.4 from the Defy that looks the same as what the OP posted and installs and works on 5.7.906. Its posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17627727&postcount=11734
It has some graphics issues sometimes but hardware volume control works outside of the app and with the screen off. I'd like to get Holo FM made for the Defy working but the apk refuses to install.
The Holo FM app doesn't install because its for 4.0+ only
