[ROM][AOSP] Yet another Nexus S ICS Build - Nexus S Android Development

Hi! I'm here to share my aosp build of Nexus S Ice Cream Sandwich.
Thanks to KalimochoAz for kernel and base of my device-tree.
System, Boot and Recovery images can be downloaded at http://android.fabiosilva.org
To install needs to use fastboot.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
Known issues:
- Camcorder effects not working;
- Reports of choppy video playback (I'm not tested it);
- Signal strength not shown correctly at 'Phone Status' menu;
Device tree: www.github.com/ffosilva/device_samsung_crespo
Local manifest (to use with repo):
http://android.fabiosilva.org/local_manifest.xml

any difference to the other builds? No flashable zip?
I'll maybe try it later..

It's AOSP based. I don't know if have differences. It includes GApps and pre-root, simply install SuperUser from Market.

how about bugs? WiFi?

Everything is working like a charm. Data, wifi, bluetooth, compass, orientation...

this rom is contain some bugs, like other custom ics roms
* video effects (camera fc when i select)
* laggy video playback
* ! tethering option does not exists
* signal strength always show 0dbm in phone status
tested on my i9023

I think these problems are due to HAL changes. But at this time I think this work for daily use until official release of ICS for NS.

you are right about 1 and 4 ( doesn't really matter it shows 0) on all ICS roms, but 3 works fine on mine and 2 i don't notice any lag but i haven't tested it extensively. Overall, very stable for me. Feel free to check it out.

Alright I'm just checking before I choose to flash this, I should do a full wipe in my current recovery and then flash these via fastboot?
And this is probably a dumb question but why do I need to flash a new recovery?

You doesn't need to flash recovery. It's stock one.

oh alright. thanks mate

Well done man, 1st miui rom with EVERYthing working!!
Recommend everybody and dont forget donation as the x Pro community is dying!!!!
i have unlocked bootloader and xPart recovery installed on MK16i xperia pro.
this is my first ROM.
I have reset data/factory, cache and then applied the MIUI update.
After restart from recovery it gets stuck at sony logo for about 2mins.
I have to reflash original firmware.
Any idea?

What do you expect? The Pro Community is small, when you are porting/create a ROM don't expect many feedback, port/create for your own and share for fun. You will not be rich (like in other Forums like S3) by donation, our community is too small for such things. And you must think, that not all Pro users (and leechers) have a account on XDA to share feedback. Life with it, the Pro is the underdog on the 2011 series from S(E).

Well if i dont get Feedback i cant know all the bugs..and if i dont know the bugs i cant fix them.So what will be the point of updates?
Edit:Maybe there are not many developers because they get tired of people just downloading?
Yeah, but no all downloaders have a account on XDA, i can understand you, no feedback is boring i will test ist asap and report bugs if i find them, but you use it too, so fixxed the bug you find, no one except a 100% stabele and bugfree ROM, (ok some st*pid people does...)

jup it´s annoying also got this on cm10.1. i´m on pollux_windy 16GB. it happens everywhere where you can use pinch to zoom. slow movinge the picture/website with one finger causes random zooming.
let´s see if todays build of cm10.1 fixes it it has many changes merged: http://10.1.cmxlog.com/?device=pollux_windy
This ROM can't make use of the MHL->HDMI output like CM 10.1, too, right?
(I think this should then be noted under "Known Issues" because some people want to use the HDMI feature and perhaps wonder what's wrong when they flash this ROM...)

I think to fix erratic touchscreen behavior, the changes in the stock 370 update (which makes the touch work perfectly) have to be applied.

We might have to wait for the CM team to incorporate the fixes Sony implemented in the .370 firmware. All CM based ROMs would get it when that happens.
Hey guys! glad to see some enthusiasm! I've been concentrating on hardware GPS, and hdcp/hdmi. I should have a build tomorrow for someone to test as I don't have a dock to test hdmi.
On hte gps front sadly we may have to wait for Sony. I spent allot of time on it, and I had GPS working, but there is a catch, the device is highly unstable after it loads the (from 4.11 stock) firmware, it randomly resets until the firmware is removed.
I've been in contact with the Sony AOSP team via git and they are now aware of the issue, and have added it to their "wish list" to have the firmware released into AOSP. So we will have to wait for either a stock 4.2.2 update (or leak), or management to allow newer blobs into the AOSP program. Still I feel good I know how to make it work once we do have compatible blobs.
The HDMI thing is a long shot at the moment, not having a dock (I should go get my freebie lol), makes testing difficullt (duh I know right), so if anyone wants to try and test it and logcat the results PM me.

This last statement is absolutely not the case at all, I'n not waiting for CM to do anything, I have my own device tree(s), I started looking at the 370 firmware (for gps), not much at all has changed, I think the touch firmware was updated, I'll try and get those into tomorrow build as well.
awesome!

Video recording is slow.
Microphone recording is not proper.
WiFI Tethering doesn't work
WiFi Direct doesn't work
Bluetooth Tethering doesn't work.
Each Cyanogenmod versions for this device (P970) is abandoned before obtaining an acceptable maturation,
leaving a bunch of ROMs unstable and partially useful for daily use,
I think they should focus on polish a ROM well enough before changing of version,
I don't want to sound harsh but maybe their development is not fast enough to get a really stable version before google releases a new Android version
waw good news we can have android 4.3
i will try this rom

Anything we can do to help... Hope you can fix the major bugs first:
Moving apps 2 SD card uninstall them
Call waiting is not working properly (when in a call, if another person calls, the phone doesn't show any notification)
The other bugs I think we can live with them for a little while. But the bugs I mention, it is hard to use the phone in the daily basis. Missing calls without any notification is pretty bad
I don't see why 10.2 is not officially supported. It runs much smoother than 10.1.Well Dhiru,Thanks for the awesome work in 10.1 and now this! You stay being awesome!:victory:
How much RAM does this ROM uses? I heard it should be less than 4.0.4 or 4.2. Is it true?
Amusingly enough, camera saves only videos, not photos. Is it just me or someone else sees this ?
It seems to work when shooting, but it doesn't focus and it doesn't save a file. Video's fine. Weird.
Same problem, no photos is saved after shooting. The known problem is that ALL camera will be FC after shooting.

I have around 200 MB free. Pretty good.
Bugs:
Doesnt reproduce ringtones.
Doesnt take pictures, even with another apps as camera360.
Pros:
Battery drain is awesome, the best I've seen in months with CM Roms.
Faster.
Almost a great ROM for being an Alpha release.
Is there something we can do to help you?.

The ROM is being updated to kernel version 3.4, that was already released to RazrM and for XT926. The kernel 3.4 depends on new bootloader version and XT925 doesn't have it yet (a leak exists, you can search xda).
As Nadlabak and dhacker29 already informed, the M8 will be the last release supporting devices with JB bootloader. All nightly builds will support only new bootloader.

OK. So far so good. Flashed with no issue, neither the rom nor the gapps.
Very smooth. WIFI and radio signals look OK. Downloading all my apps...
After 5mn of testing (!):
- My external SD isn't detected.
- Same transition bug as in a few builds earlier on cm10.2
EDIT:
- All Interface/Menus/Status bar settings are missing
- Some settings are missing from the Camera app (jpeg quality and others)
EDIT2: 20 minutes
No other bug so far. Tested a few apps, are working as expected.
root is OK.
And s**t, that thing is REALLY snappy!.
Hi,
I made a dirty flash.
XT925 (Telcel Mexico)
I was in Carbon nightlies (7.11.13)
Flash ROM over Carbon (CWM 6.0.4.4)
Flash GAPP 4.4
Erase Cache, Erase Dalvik
Boot
Boot without Problems alle Apps working
(Around 70 apps, from whatsapp bbm, rootexplorer, udn lite, asphalt 8,etc)
SD Card not mounted/working
Radio signal works ,WiFi, battery is ok )
GPS locks quickly.
From Carbon have the unlock function with volume keys, that works too. I did not find it in CM, but works.
I flashed superuser.
Till now all is working great. No FC.
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app
Hi guys,
Just flashed here and I´m still testing... Used CWM 6.0.4.4 without any glitches. Flashed Core GAPPS , the minimal one (17mb) with only core code. I also flashed SuperSU 1.6.5 as I don´t like Superuser.
It´s working like a charm!
I didn´t like the launcher, so I exchanged to Nova Laucher as I always used it.
Anomalies found:
- External SDCard doesn´t work.
- Tiles for Radios/GPS/Bluetooth on notification screen doesn´t work to switch the function on-off. It just leads to config screen.
- Sound poping/cracking playing FLAC files. Tried Apollo and PlayerPro. I don´t have any MP3 local to test, will try later. But working flawless with streaming sound. I used 8Track and Cloudaround and the sound is perfect.
Oh, just FYI Viper4Android is working flawlessly without any issue!
For a "first build", it´s almost perfect, just few bugs. Epinter, congratulations!
I´ll test GPS and Bluetooth Audio on car as soon as I´m out for lunch.
Tested this. Works great on my Atrix HD. Video playback and external SD seem to be the only bugs for me. Found myself a new daily driver for now.
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app
No tethering
No GPS
A lot of menu options off
Some 3G lost signals
SMS and MMS ok
It's ok for a preview.

Now GPS is normal? If not, try restore a backup where it locks, reboot with it locked then clean flash KK, might work.
I think white status bar icons are a feature of KK, not a bug. It won't go blue as previous versions. Check if your playstore is connecting and your Google account is syncing normal, it's all set.
Tethering is down. Might not been implemented yet.
I checked video recording is working fine so local video playback, using mx player. But streaming video from YouTube app or any other site from web is not working.
And lock screen rotation too, may not be present yet.
Any other feature is awesome.

Tks.
I know there is some bugs, and CM 11 almost is ok.
But something very wrong happened. I lost wifi. Not turn on. No connection anymore. I put sotck system by rsdlite, but even that, wifi not turn back. WIFI-AP not turn on too. I think it burned. Is there some way to test if really burned?
Tks again.

Multisim FAQ
How to enable/disable multisim?
Install a terminal and type the following
Enable:
Code:
su
setprop persist.radio.multisim.config dsds
Disable:
Code:
su
setprop persist.radio.multisim.config none
Or use the file manager in root mode, search for build.prop and change persist.radio.multisim.config=dsds (enable) or persist.radio.multisim.config=none (disable)
Dual SIM has the following limitations:
Both SIMs are always enabled (no way to disable one SIM)
"Receive incoming call while data is enabled" is always enabled
The QuickSettings tile will display the status for the currently selected SIM for data
Changing 2G/3G network mode using the QuickSettings toggle is not supported, only do it from Settings.
3G may not work properly if Dual SIM mode is enabled with only 1 SIM inserted
Ok, this rom seems pretty stable. I think dual sim should work and games like clash of clans won't close themseves. However I don't really know if lock screen widgets works (already searched on privacy and didn't found anything). For those who like features and doesn't need the lock screen widgets, this rom should be great
Edit: Ok, I found how to activate lock screen widgets. It seems it is necessary to disable low ram mode... Well, I'll release RC 1.1 with lock screen widgets working soon

Hmm that's weird. I'm using it right now and I don't have those problems. Those problems happened to you only on this rom or also on other roms? And did you use CWM or TWRP?
Hi, well im using CWM but discovered that this trouble its related with the Gapps.. :S when i change the gapps using another micro or nano version everything works fine. so its not a issue directly of the rom.. and its awesome.. thanxs again..
Greetings
Is this ROM Better/More stable than NamelessRom? i still can't decide wich one to download...
By the way, youtube doesn't work correctly on CM 11.0 and SlimKat 4.4.4, videos just seem to keep buffering till a. The app crashes, or b. The entire cellphone restarts itself... so I'm trying these two and i need to know wich one is better (in terms of performance, and youtube)
Anyways thanks for giving ROMs to our old little Samsung Galaxy Music

Which ROM are you flashing? Carbon? Did you try any of the others? CM11? If not, try flashing that. Don't flash GApps immediately. Just flash ROM and boot the phone. Let everything settle down for about five minutes and then flash GApps.

Hello, I'm really sorry to bump this thread, but, some time ago, it seems like this youtube app just stopped working, it just gives an error (401 or something like that) or it straight out tells me that a new version of youtube is available (The broken, original one from the playstore).
So, basically, is there another modified youtube app I can try out that allows me to watch videos on 4.4.4 again? The original YouTube still buffers forever :crying:
Again, sorry for bumping this thread, I hadn't had the time to post this here...

I'm sorry to say that none of these work on a Samsung Galaxy Music S6010 with CM11.0, they all have the same issue of not playing the video at all, and crashing if they're not closed on time...
I guess there are no other alternatives other than to flash back to 4.1.2 ????
4.1.2 is barely usable because of all the bloatware it has, or i don't know what is it that makes it so... laggy.
