I'm stuck on EPE 76 and trying to root the phone. Where is the OTA 2.2?
Come on guys. This sucks! I can't update or do anything.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712983 Right here bud, not to sound like a douche, but it wasn't hard to find lol. Although freaking out doesn't help, I did the same thing last night, and was trying to get root on FRF83 or w.e. but the links weren't working so i just went back to 2.2 GOOD LUCK (use the universal upgrade)
Thanks, I tried the universal update and it couldn't be found in fast boot. How is this loaded?
Fixed. For some reason the update wouldn't load in fastboot because "update" was called "update.zip".
The only way to learn is by doing. Including some panic lol.
I see the update is failing for a lot of people on the Samsung Captivate. Mine was reflashed using Odin3, and the update failed like so many others. I reflashed using Odin3 again, tried the update, and the same exact thing happened. The update fails at 50%.
The first time around, I was rooted and lagfixed, I tried it that way, then unrooted and tried again.
The second time around, I made absolutely no changes to the phone whatsoever, except signing in to my google account, and upping the screen timeout to 30 mins.
Doubt that this information is helpful to anybody, but was hoping maybe these symptoms would point to a trend as to why so many people's Captivates can't update.
Also, how many of you that failed used an Odin3 reflash any time before it failed?
I just flashed back to stock using the Odin One Click program and my updated failed at 50%. I tried 4 different time with the same result. I even reflashed a second time, did a Master Clear, and a Factory Reset. Stil no joy.
This morning as soon as I saw the news of the release I immediately hit the software update in the settings menu. Downloaded and just before I went to install I decided maybe it would be smart to do a rom backup with rom manager. Did that, and went ahead and then attempted to install it. It got to 100% and then said update failed, rebooted, said the same thing, update wasn't successful. However, if you checked about phone, it said it was jh7, but none of the jh7 stuff was there. The phone was rooted, sideload enabled, clockwork installed, and bloat removed, that's it. Never flashed a rom or lag fix or anything like that.
At this point I decided to try using the odin one click to stock jf6. Installed it, and tried to update again. Now, I'm getting what most people are getting, update fails very quickly at 50%, the phone reboots with no changes.
So I decided to use my clockwork backup, and restore my phone back to what it was before all this started this morning. Of course, since I remembered to do the backup AFTER downloading and postponing the update, it's sitting there waiting to go. Decided to try it and see if it acted the same as this morning, and now it's doing what it did right after the jf6 one click, gets to 50% and then fails with no effect.
How complete a wipe/restore of the phone is using rom manager? Because the update behavior on mine is different now after messing with odin than it was before, even after restoring it with rom manager.
Rooted with Sideloading on JH2. Not much else done to my phone. It has always worked well.
I didn't even get a percentage when trying to install. Just reboots and says "Update Failed".
Same issue here. Flashed back to JF6 using Odin one click. Update fails at 50%.
Only thing i can think of its that, that particular fw in odin is not the original fw flashed on the phone when bought and it does some sort of checksum or some kind of check.
50%, puke, and now when I click on update it tells me no firmware which I think is funny.
has anyone tried the firmware from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777291
?
I don't have a PC at work (or even a x86 Mac) to play with.
Mine did the samething. I've used the the one click reinstaller a few times after trying out different roms. Maybe the one click installer changes something and it's blocking the update from totally completing. I hate to reinstall everything again but maybe theres a better way to do a total factory restore so we can get the update.
I'd guess that if it's doing a difference update (just applying the new stuff, not a full ROM) it needs a checksum match to be sure it doesn't bork the phone. Failing that (i.e. anything different from a pure stock phone) it will abort at some point.
There is a pure JF6 stock rom linked somewhere here on the forum--I'll see if I can find it, but it was never stickied or anything. Some guy just uploaded it because the one-click wasn't "pure" so to speak.
I guess this is their way of saying "you don't like our firmwares in the first place, you don't get this one either!"
Mine did all the same as you guys , failed at 50%. So I just got a new phone from att , told them it keep failing update. Did update right in store on new phone and boom installed no problem. On top of that gps is dead on, on new phone with update. Didn't get to try with out update. Already made sure I can get into download mode, no problems there. Note just scared to flash any roms since gps is perfect lol.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Omg and no xda force close lol . Also rf cal date is 7/10/2010 , old phone rf cal date was 8/07/10
Gps couldn't lock to nothing.

I tried using the Samsung Kies program and it says "this device's version cannot be updated". I'm wondering if that one click installer is not what it should be. Maybe if we flash to a different Captivate firmware the Kies program will update it.
I agree, I just like the way the one click installer worked. I know there's other roms/kernels posted, and I guess I'll have to do some legwork here. Here's hoping.
Just reflashed back to stock for the third time using Odin3 One Click and now when I check for updates it It says No Updates Available. Prior to this, it would dwnload the updated and reboot the phone and fail at 50% while installing. Frustrating!
I never use the 1click odin, I always put the .pit and the JF6 file into the 'normal' odin and use that -- haven't seen if anyone has tried that yet anywhere? Maybe that'll work.
BTW I still have no update available even after calendar trick :/
Hey guys, I did root my captivate. My question is do I need to un-root the device to apply the gps update or it does not matter.
Just downloaded JF6
how would I flash this back to my phone?
sorry if thats a stupid question but I cant find an answere seraching
I downloaded JF6 from Samfirmware.com. I'm going to back up my current ROM, then do an Odin w/Repartition and use the JF6 from Samfirware.com.
We'll see if that works. . . .

Tried this a little while ago. I went to run the update and now it's saying that no updates are available.
I spent about an hour on the chat window with ATT support and they can't seem to find a way to reset it to push again. The guy on the other end was knowledgeable as far as I could tell.
hell - he even mentioned froyo. He said they have ALOT of information on it for the captivate but no release date yet.
tried to restore stock with one click and it wont flash the boot.img . Said something like INFOPreinstallaton error. Cant root either. What to do?
Well, first off, your question is in the wrong thread...it will most likely be moved soon...
second....did you update to .893?
Edit: if so and your bootlooped.... this is the one you want http://rootzwiki.com/topic/7801-roo...v10-linuxwindows-get-root-after-893-ota-oops/
ill move my questions. Sorry! Yes and no. Did forever root, flashed update, flashed liberty rom. Then i noticed the version was back to 886 so i tried the oneclick instead of backup and thats when the error for boot.img showed but everything else flashed. My phone is running but i cant root it shows an error as well. thanks for the reply.

when you flashed liberty, you flashed .886 system, but the .893 kernel and radio remained. not sure which one click you used to lose root, are you sure you lost root? if, so.... this is just my opinion and what i would do....I would run th3orys and dhackers fix above and flash 2.1 when it comes out.
i will try that. Thanks for the info.
I recently upgraded to the leaked 5.9.904 system since I was having issues with my phone acting possessed and to try to improve my 4G connection. I first tried to roll my phone back to the stock 886, do the OTA updates, re-root and flash 904. I couldn't get my phone to go back to 886 only the stock 902. After flashing 902 my phone retained all the settings and was just unrooted, I hoped that this fixed any problem files. I went ahead and rerooted and flashed 5.9.904. All worked as advertized except my phone is still acting strange intermittently and now my WiFi occasionally stops working. My 4G is more solid than it has ever been which is great but I would like to fix the Wifi.
I guess my question is this, how can I get by phone back to a bone stock ROM? I was stupid and bought a refurb Bionic to save $50 and regret that decision, as such it came with 886 on it. I would like to flash an error free 886 so I can reroot and go from there.
Any ideas?

The full FXZ of .902 will set you straight. At least until a .904 FXZ is found.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6725402/VRZ_XT875_5.9.902.XT875.Verizon.en.US_CFC_01.xml.zip
Thank you. Should I flash it like a normal ROM? Will it wipe the old 904 ROM? I am trying to start fresh and don't want any old files/settings.
Hey guys.. My System Version is listed as being 6.13.215.XT894.Verizon.en.us. (This phone is about a week or 2 old for me) I have installed safetsrap recovery just to see how it works etc and have successfully installed the Eclipse port on the non-safe system. Now that I am done having fun with that, I would like to upgrade my system to newer leaked versions. My question is this: Should I uninstall safestrap before attempting to flash any of the leaked updates? How should I go about removing safestrap the "best" way? Also could someone please enlighten me with the correct "order" of these releases? EG: 6.11.200, 6.11.202, 206 etc. I guess I'm confused bc my system version starts with 6.13 instead of 6.11. Any help much appreciated!
I'm in the same boat as you, safestrap w/eclipse setup and I think I want to just switch to ICS 211
Pretty sure there are 2 methods, one with fastboot, and one with safestrap.
Fastboot method (droidforums.net/forum/droid-4-roms/212634-simplified-211-update-guide.html) definitely requires you to uninstall safestrap, but I think that automatically happens when you flash w/stock 219.
Safestrap method (droidforums.net/forum/search.php?searchid=4780372) allows you to just use a 211 ICS rom. But, I'm not sure if you already have to have done the fastboot ICS, I think you may have to fastboot ICS then install safestrap and safestrap into 211 ICS from 206 or 208 ICS.... Anyways, that's about where I am right now, trying to figure out if I safestrap to a 211 ICS rom from my current stock 219 GB, will it brick my phone. :/

Oh also (droidforums.net/forum/droid-news/212864-another-ics-leak-here-droid-4-maybe-closer-ota.html) says that "212 ICS should be leaked soon". You may want to just hold tight, lots of new leaks means that something big (and easy to install for noobs like me ) may be coming soon .
The adventure continues...
Thanks for the quick response man... I'm glad to see I'm not the only one in this situation! I've been "creeping" on this board for 2 years now, (which I can't believe how fast that time went by) and thought it was about time that I start posting etc... you know what I mean, I see that was your 4th post so, that makes 2 situations where we are in the same boat! Thanks for the links brother I have actually read those, but need to checkup on them again... ALSO, my system downloaded an update the other day, (OTA) and was automatically going to install it (I clicked on download, thinking it would just download and wait for me to do the install manually like i have been used to in the past...) So, I tried to interrupt the download by throwing my phone into airplane mode really quick and then forcing a shutdown. Next time I turned on my phone I end up seeing the "Green Android with a triangle" screen, and a progress meter.. and I KNOW what that means. Something was flashed automatically by the phone. I got nervous, but my phone booted up perfectly, and I still had root, along with safestrap intact. I'm still a bit confused by what might've happened, but am relieved that my phone is still working perfectly... strangeness. I'll update this thread w any more info I can find. Thanks again!
Time out guys! First off, you cannot flash the ICS leaks in safestrap. The leaks are updates, not full ROMs. Second, you cannot flash a ROM based off the ICS leaks in safestrap unless you update you stock system to an ICS leak first. Well, you probably could, but it wouldn't boot. If you are on GB .215 you will need to update to .219 first. If you are on GB .219, and have not installed safestrap, you should be able to flash the an ICS leak via stock recovery without fastbooting. If you have installed safestrap, I believe you have to fastboot using the .219 file since safestrap changes something in the build.prop that will cause the leak update to fail.

Yup, same here, I'm just taking as much info in right now as possible. I think our options are eclipse, stock 219 with frozen apps, or ICS. Oh if you use stock at all, I'd recommend upgrading to 219, I think that was a major update, my battery life has just about doubled... then again I only had my phone for about a week before upgrading, and about 3 weeks total now.

Thanks for clarifying that ^^, kwyrt, I've read some of your other posts they are always quite informative!
Glad I could help! There are a LOT of nice, helpful people in these forums. Just keep asking questions! Doing some of this stuff can be nerve wracking even if you know what your doing. I actually, finally, got up the nerve to jump on the ICS leak train last night. If you decide to take the leap, I highly recommend using jsnweitzel's Droid 4 Utility located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714596. Made the process much easier than it has any right to be.
Android 4.0.4 flash Success! =)
So I decided to take the leap last night... first thing I did was every way of factory resetting I know how to do hehe. (Privacy, factory reset under settings, then a data and dalvik clear in recovery) Downloaded the GB219 file, put it on my SD, fired up the Droid 4 Utility (thanks to everyone who contributed!) and had no problems at all upgrading. I wasn't worried about root so I skipped the OTA rootkeeper process. Next I needed to get to an ICS build. Again, I used the Droid 4 utility.... only difference being that we had to flash the boot.img file first.. (ICSFIX.img). On my first go, I successfully flashed the new boot.img (ICSFIX), but then got a sig verification error when trying to flash the OTA zip. ****. Soft brick at 2AM... heh. at least I still had plenty of time. Re-DL the OTA file, copied it over again and repeated the entire procedure, this time with success. Really Glad I decided to upgrade! Thanks guys!
