Wargus & Dosbox - LG Thrill 4G

I felt like revisiting some old PC titles and thought it might be possible to enjoy these on my phone while on the go. The first app Wargus requires that you have the CD version of Warcraft II. It compiles a list of data files to put on your SD card, then launches the game with no problems. The game runs flawlessly on my thrill. I was killing humans with my grunts in no time.
Dosbox is a DOS emulator that allows you to play all sorts of DOS based PC games. From Dune II, to star control. It features an on screen joystick with the ability to bring up an onscreen keyboard.
Both apps are exceptionally made and should be adopted by all.

Dosbox

Hi,
I'm running Dosbox on my Vario III (having followed a guide on these forums). It is very slow. I can run Ultima IV at a snail's pace, and later games (1990 onwards) - games with graphics to be honest - are totally unplayable.
This didn't seem to tally with how fast everyone else says Dosbox is. I tried another program called pocketdos, which manages to run Ultima 6, a much more cpu-intensive game at full speed etc. (but without sound because it doesn't emulate sound...)
So I'm concluding that Dosbox should be going a lot faster but isn't managing it on my phone. Any idea what the problem could be?
Another problem with Dosbox is that pressing the function or caps key quits the program, which means you don't have full run of the keyboard
Thanks,
ive tried dosbox on my kaiser and it was slow, but i think youl find it slow on most devices actually, i think its just a slow program?
Which version of DOSBox did you use?
I've just found n0p's edition of DOSBox v0.63 at http://n0p.tonych.info/?DOSBox_PPC
I doubt it will run good on anything newer than games from 1993-1994 though, but as long as it's not 3D games or anything, it should be worth a try
Yes, it's n0p's version that you shoudl try (see my related Bible at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...MS-)DOS (80x86) programs under Windows Mobile ) . But I've been reported it too is slow like hell on the Kaiser.
All in all, the Kaiser isn't a gaming / MM device...
Well I've already ran Legends of Kyrandia and it is flawless. The mouse pointer emulation is a little funky, but the game is fine. n0p did include some tips to get faster speeds:
1. Do not try to run "modern" games. Games released before 1993 should run OK.
2. Use core=verysimple setting where possible. But if you need full 386 emulation, use core=full.
3. Don't set cycles larger then 1000-2000.
4. Play with frameskip - 3-5 is OK for almost every game.
5. Overclock your processor (use XCPUScalar or similar). But use with care
6. If there's any GAPI "tweakers" for your PDA - use them.

And just a note; I haven't done steps 5 and 6 and it still runs great.

Genesis/Mega Drive emulator for Kaiser?

Is there a fully working, full speed Genesis emulator for the Kaiser?
I tried Genesis Plus 0.6. With frameskip on auto, it was way too slow. And it doesn't have any options to remap keys.
I tried PicoDrive 0.52. It was also too slow and it doesn't have any options to enable frameskip. I could remap keys, but up was right, down was left, right was down, and left was up.
Are there any full speed Genesis/Mega Drive emulators for the Kaiser? There were some nearly full speed ones for my ancient Nokia 6620 (150 MHz Arm9, 16 MB RAM), so full speed emulation on the Kaiser (400 MHz Arm9, 128 MB RAM) should be possible.
I have not found even a decent Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, or Nintendo emulator. My iPod Touch has got them all and working great :<<
You won't find any emulators at the moment that are going to be fully smooth (forget about sound) on kaiser. sorry, but that's the way it is.
hopefully incoming version 0.1 of fpsece will let us play games like final fantasy VII with decent framerates. it may be possible, as makers of it have promised to release source code for gfx plugin. maybe, just maybe someone will try to write a dedicated gfx plugin and to utilize 3d hardware in kaisers to give it bit more processing power.

bro
[EDIT]
funny thing is, that silly old nokia N70 can play gameboy advance games without sound at almost full speed (frameskip 1), and all of it on ~200 mhz cpu. those who tried playing gba games on kaiser know, that they are not playable at all.

My friend always plays ol` good games (GB, GBA, NINTENDO) with his N95 and they look gorgeus compared to kaiser. I just hate the fact that we don`t have anything matching.
solid nes emulator for kaiser exists

I suggest u guys look for pocket nester. it runs nes roms just fine on kaiser. requires some remapping of keys. I believe it took some googling after trying xda forum links. i located the emulator while looking for kinoma free play here on xda.
cheers

It looks like the latest version is 0.7 from 2003 Giving it a try tho, need to source some roms.
Update : Works fine if you don't use the onscreen controls, just maps to the dpad and A=Softkey Left B=IE Button Start=Softkey right Select=SMS button.
The Audio works best upto 22800, 8 bit, with 2 set for frameskip .
Apparently free .NES ROMs here - full commercial games at non-warez site.
PS Sorry to hijack your MegDdrive thread with NES info but I'm all excited I got this working smooth.
seems right

yup, that is the one. simply copy pocketnester app to storage card, transfer your roms, load roms thru program or just setup association with nes roms inside options and double click ur rom
remember ull need to remap, which took a little state diagram for me to get it right.
if u can find your mario 2 it is perfect for ppc since no time limit, four characters, and lots of places when you drop it simply scrolls down. makes sloppy button presses little less upsetting!
morphgear seems to work fine

download site
download the generator and the emulators, run the files while ppc connected to activesync and computer thru usb, soft reset and proceed with installations, transfer appropriate roms to storage card, goto programs->games->morphgear, switch to whichever file type and load rom
try it
Genesis/Mega Drive emulation is currently broken in Morphgear. It crashes immediately on opening a ROM.
Check out Smart Gear. It emulates Genesis, SNES, NES, Gamegear, and Gameboy. Unfortunately, it's not free.
pocket nester works great for playing nintendo games, i'm playing mike tyson's punch out now, SICK
I use picodrive v0.52 for mega drive, pocketgnuboy v1.20 for gameboy and PocketGBA v060723 for gameboy advance and all run fine with sound, only thing is on picodrive turn the sound sample rate down to about 22050 or less because i've found if set any higher games become quite laggy.
No sound on Kaiser?
I am running Picodrive v0.052 on my TyTyn II and all of the roms run fine, but without sound. I have tried changing the sample rate, disabling Z80 and any other options I can see, but so far had no joy.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

emulators that work for the HTC MAGIC

the other day i paid for and downloaded the nes emulator, i was playing around with it and realised that i couldnt play games really as i dont have a keyboard like the G1.
also with this problem, when playing cestos i cant talk as im playing from my HTC MAGIC and have no keyboard. do we no of any one that is going to be fixing these problems
thank you in advance
Hello,
From my experience (which is some what limited mind you, haha) ScummVM works very well with the HTC Magic. I have a Vodafone HTC Magic (black) and had Broken Sword 1 running perfectly. Obviously most other games will not work as well given the lack of hardware keyboard - but point and click adventure games are no problems with the touch screen/trackball! Also, the ScummVM app is free from the Market last time I checked.
Hope this helps!
It seems the magic requires a vitual keyboard. Also, as the magic is capacitive, that would mean that it's essentially multi touch capable (even if google haven't capitalized on it yet), so theoretically, it should be possible to get that virtual keyboard running with multiple buttons pressed at the same time. As far as I can see, the Sapphire(magic) is a rather new phone, so these things just take a little time to come from the developers.
Caid.

i belice in cestos you can chat by pressing menu->show keyboard

Yeah, it works. But some point and click, like broken sword 2, monkey island 3, need a right mouse click (inventory) to continue playing. Also no buttons to save the game.
So ScummVM is good, but with some games not. I hope they fix this soon.
There are a couple of experimental multi touch apps appearing in the market for use on rooted phones running certain firmwares. Hopefully we'll start seeing this being implemented into emulators soon. I'd be more than willing to pay £5 for a decent Megadrive emulator with multitouch control.
You never know, maybe we'll get official multi touch in Donut... or Eclair... maybe Flan? Please?!
There is a game boy/game boy colour app called kidd GBC. You have to pay for it but it uses an on screen keyboard (well an a and a b button that you press on screen) and you use the trackerball on the phone to move about. It works quite well and is one of the first emulators i've seen that has a basic on screen keypad implemented.
Finding games isn't easy tho.
The guys over at http://www.supergnes.com/index.php are working on the bomb snes emulater that will supposedly eventually support touchscree/multi-touch/trackball.
Theres a slew of myTouch 3G users coming down the pike, lets hope they start getting support.
ggNES is the BOSS! it allows u to set onscreen arrows and buttons, but i use volume up down for a b and the screen for the arrows cuz without multi touch its hard to put both on the screen.... hopefully donut should fix that!
Been using Nesoid for NES games and Gensoid for Megadrive games, both have on screen D-pads and you can map the buttons to correspond to A/B etc..
Works really well, really like it, tons and tons of roms out there. Been playing Altered Beast on the megadrive emulator and Mario and Zelda on the Nes one!

Genesis and NES Games

Downloaded the NES emulator and the Genesis emulator as well. Was curious of anyone knows of some games that works well with the myTouch interface. I tried Mario 3 and it isnt to easy to control the characters.
Thanks
There are a few bad things about Android and non-keyboard devices.
1. There is no multi-touch supported by Android. You would need an unlocked device and get a rom off of XDA to get this.
2. Even if you had a multi touch enabled rom, the apps do not support it since it is not supported officially (why add the code if a very small fraction of the market has it?).
3. The screen is a little small for touch game interface. Apple gets away with it because the 3.5" screen makes a difference (try the touch interface on iPhone and compare to the myTouch).
Android and a touch screen only phone are an oxymoron- due to no multi-touch.

[Q] Android Games and Apps

I install Android builds on my X1 just to open some low end apps and games.
Is there any way to just run apps on the x1 native ROM (WinMO)? I just want to play android games like zenonia 2, 3, illusia, and other low end games like irunner, moonchase, gamedev story and similar games.
It'd be like an emulator or something, (Crossfingers X)
It would be great, right? because then, developers won't have to do the whole android thing, just one smokin' hot android app emulator..
Your thoughts are interesting, but I think about normal emulators on pc etc.
So I think, emulators won't run the apps/games better than in Android.
The emulator will also have these/similar kernel android used.
PS. I hope you understand what I mean, it's a bit confusing^^
yeah i know
But then, just thinking..
It might be possible as there is YouWave for PC.. But I'm talking pure apps here, just apps no Android UI or anything else.
Of course X1 can't beat the high-end Android phone due to lack of gpu and low CPU power. You're prolly right, Android apps can't be expected to run better on X1. Android apps are for Android phone, but I was just thinkin. ... MAYBE...
X1 is an OK phone
X1 can play lowend games at a decent speed. But where are the games!? The developers abandoned Window Mobile and trust me, i've tried tons of android games on x1 and they work perfectly.
Again, HD apps is a different story. I'm talkin bout low end.
thanks for this
working for me fine. except if you have to press two button once. that wont work. like in a mtb trail game, where you need to accelerate and lean backwards...
