Hi,
ok, so I've read a bit, but I want to clarify.
My wife's O2X has poor battery life, starts lagging terribly after few days, reboots sometimes, locks up sometimes, etc.
So I want to try new ROMs. Most of them.
I've already root'ed the phone.
What I would prefer is to keep contacts, messages, sync settings, wifi settings, bookmarks, photos, and, preferably applications along with their data. I know this is much to ask.
For contacts, we sync them to here Google account, so that's somewhat safe.
But for others?
I've read about Titanium backup, that it does wonders. My question, however is, does Titanium backup work only for SAME ROM? E.g., if I flash from stock to CM7 or BD, can I still restore the backup?
Does it backup/restore applications themselves, just the data?
thanks, and sorry if this was stupid.
Hi,
Titanium backup will backup your application with data (if selected).
Restoring apps to other roms should be okay, I did that before.. but I didn't try to restore contacts from one rom to another before. Cm7 is different from stock rom, so im not sure if can restore contacts and messages.
But if you use sprite backup, it can backup and restore from one rom to another without problems. Only that the options are very limited comparing to Titanium backup. It is included with Modaco roms.
Cheers!
titanium backup can restore apps from one rom to an other if the app is compatible. ive done it a lot.
not sure about all messages and such but ive seen some apps on the market that can do it. just search for backup and you get a ton of apps for backing up different stuff.

If you want to backup all what you mention in one motion, a good idea is to perform a clockwork mod backup.
And to use Appextractor in the paid version: it can restore apps + data, wifi settings, messages, and many other things.
The main issue is the size of the backup, as it is a complete and total backup of the all the system, around 700MB for me.
But doing this you have 2 things for the price of one.
Besides that way there is no app that can do all you want in one motion.
About compatibility, backups should be compatible with other ROM except for specific data perhaps.
Hello!
The best available BackUp solution for contacts, SMS, calendar data etc. is MyPhoneExplorer.

Best App for backup of apps is Titanium Backup – as already mentioned.
thank you all very much.
I've got all the info I've needed.

I'm having a lot of issues with Froyo and I want to format the phone and reinstall it. However I was wondering if it was possible for me to restore the data for the application that I installed. I'm talking about things like high scores on games.

Only if you are rooted.
You can use MyBackup Pro (not free) or Titanium Backup (freeish) to backup app "data"
Settings > accounts/privacy allows for auto restoration of settings and apps, I think it may restore app data as well...
Hi all,
I am currently using Webstar's Ultimate ROM v7.2 but have decided to switch to Darky's latest.
I plan to do a full wipe during the installation.
I have downloaded titanium backup from the Market, and paid for the full version. But I don’t know how to use it!
I’ve just told it to do a batch backup of all user apps and data.
When I install the wipe ROM I will of course be wanting to restore EVERYTHING.
Will titanium be able to do this? Will it restore all my apps/ games/ games scores [angry birds/ grave defence Etc]?
Will it restore all my SMS/ Emails?
Will it restore my desktop wallpaper/ widgets/ launcher pro settings?
Finally when I come to do the restore, do I select the RUN – restore missing apps + all system data?
Thank you all in advance
Matt
Sometimes i have noticed that if you backup system data and restore it on another rom it can cause some issues (FC's Unresponsiveness, Apps not working) so its always best to do a wipe version... you can backup Apps + App data but i never backup system data if im moving ROM. but thats upto you...
and as for your sms/ wallpapers/ homescreen arrangement it will not save them.. but some launchers have the option to backup the homescreen so check that first... anything on your internal sd card. back up to your PC.

I agree with azzledazzle.
Use titanium backup to restore your apps and save data but i would use it for much else than that.
When you wipe your phone it will ask you to input your email account anyway on the first boot up So all your email will be back,
You will lose your sms though...
If you use gmail sync all your contact to your gmail account so they will all be put back on your phone autimatically on the first boot.
Hope that helps a bit.

+1 this is the best method. your emails will stay intact, as for a few sms there not worth keeping (unless they are dirty sms from a dirty woman) lol
Hi Guys,
I have flashed my Note for the first time, I've gone for Rocket Rom V21.
all is working fine, however I had to do a wipe for the rom to work, so I'm missing all the text messages, app/settings, and calendar dates.
I do have a backup from yesterday done with CWM.
My question is, how can I apply or retain all of the above on my newly flashed rom?
Thanks
I think that the backup you made is localised to your ROM. So you may be unable to use the backed up data in the new ROM. Or you might have to modify/move somethings. Best of luck

Well I have restored my backup sucessfully just to check it, because people always reccomend having a backup of your working system if you are going to flash new roms.
The backup is functioning perfectly with all my texts and calendar dates in tact.
So I have an opportunity to back up these items, so what would you reccomend to do this?
Should I be using Titanium backup?
Titanium Backup will backup all Apps and Settings. I believe the newer versions of titanium Backup can extract backed up files from nandroid (CWM) backups.
if you wipe then it wipes the internal memory (dont confuse this with the 11gb storage space) you need to back up the messages with an app that will allow you to do this
if you have root then i use mybackup root if you dont have root then there are plenty of apps onthe market that will backup and restore your messages
I suggest you restore the previous ROM; install Titanium Backup and execute a backup of "all user apps + system data"; flash again your favorite ROM, then restore the apps + data you want.

Got the ICS OTA update. Liking it, but read hear and on other forums a Factory default result is recommended to clear/clean up remnants
from Gingerbread. I dont know who it works, but since I've downloaded and tried hundreds of other apps, I bet they have remnants laying around also.
I've rooted my phone (razs_edge)
I've installed the free version of Titanium Backup and ran a backup with system data + all apps +data
I've about to due the FDR. Should I also wipe the internal SD card? or just the FDR?
Once FDR is done, should I actually restore EVERYTHING. or will that restore to much?
I just want plain system data back, and they the apps that I really want to keep.
which restore method do you suggest?
The best way to restore after an FDR is to let your apps restore from the Market. Most will restore automatically, the rest you can restore manually. The only things I would restore from a TiBu would be data from user apps like games, or things like bookmarks. Restoring System apps and most system data is a good way to mess up your clean FDR. Your sd-ext is not wiped by an FDR, but I think the internal sdcard is. Just back it up to the computer before the FDR so you can restore any of it if necessary. All your gmail and gcontacts will be back on sync if you've set 'Back up my data' and 'Automatic restore' under settings > Backup and reset.

Great reply! Thanks.
I know contacts and calendar and stuff will be restored from Google servers. Not sure how important to me they are,
but are SMS messages restored from Google. or do I restore those manually via TiBu? I glaced at the 270ish entries and nothing jumped
out at being the one for SMS messages.
Thanks.
Sorry, forgot about sms because I use Google Voice and they stay in the cloud (and remain available) unless I delete them. I think there is an app in Play Market that will backup/restore your messages. I think TiBu can do that also, but I'm not sure which setting does that.
Edit: In TiBu, if you touch the 'folder' thing at the top right, and choose to backup all user apps + data, you can select 'Messages(SMS & MMS)' to back them up.

Great thanks. I didnt know what the sms/mms was called. If I had scrolled through the list slower I would have seen the green font
(must be for system apps and/or data) names messages (sms/mms). so it does appear to save those.
still very new to TiBu. I'll learn. Thanks for the help.
change a new Rom with the best performance means:
full wipe (cashe,data,preload,system)
also not restore app (at least app data) from titanium backup.
so, install all app again and make setup for all
guys, how do you this? I have already xxlsz a mounth installed, everything is working, but I know, new rom could be better.
otherwise I am tired of restoring...
sometimes I am thinking I could be happy with a iphone so simply

Have you been downloading all of your apps every time you flash a new ROM ?
You can restore user apps and data.
Just don't restore any system app/data
Got it?
for me the RomCustomizer by ficeto is great app for restoring, backuping, uninstalling apps, and I never restore any data. If the app which I use have option to save/restore settings I do that (and this kind of data is usualy saved on internal sd) same thing is for gps navigation programs (maps are always saved on internal sd)
so after flashing new rom, first thing is installing rom customzer, then restoring user and also some system apps (I do backup of some system apps which is updated, it saves my time from updating via playstore)
and thats it, new rom is set up in about 30min
this way I dont have any problems with any rom and any app I used
hope it helped to someone
till now I just have restored some user app+data from titanium, some download again from market. never restore system app or data.
once I have deleted my internal card and download all app again cuz some people had problem with performance of that rom and this want recommend. also I wanted a bit clean my phone.
ok, now I am confuse. it's safe restore user data or better just save data if the app has this in option and then restore?
thanks guys.

Both are safe. The latter method requires you to individually restore data while in the former you can batch restore data. Which one you want to use is up to you.
so for the best performance of a new ROM is NOT nesesary format internal card and NOT restore app+data ?
Make ROM CUSTOMIZER backup of app with or without data? (I didnt find this option like in Titanium Backup).
