Hello everyone
my device is SGS 1 , I flashed VODOO Lag fix on it
and now I want to flash a newer firmare or Cyanogen ROM
What should I do with the lag fix ?? just flash a new rom or what ??
knowing that VODOO lag fix can't be uninstalled .
you have to undo the lag fix before flashing a new Rom, as the lagfix converts Rfs files to Ext4. (which makes it faster for the phone to read) but the framework is build off of Rfs file systems, so before flashing a new rom go into the voodoo lag fix app, and there should be sumwhere that says convert bak 2 Rfs or undo lag-fix. OR if you have Odin and a stock Gingerbread Rom, you can just flash a stock GB Rom over it without undoing lagfix, then flash a custom Kernel to gain root access again. i do this as its a cleaner flashing method,
REMEMBER IF I HELPED TO CLICK THE THANKS BUTTON
worked for me
Thanks

Hi there,
I just flashed my SGS with a new kernel ( speedmod kernel K13C ) and tried multiple roms (Darkys and Ultibread).
The major problem is that on the Ultibread rom my data connectivity doesn't work. It just won't show up, which is a real pain because I'm tethering my 3G to my PC.
With the Darkys rom, the 3G fixed itself. But now I'm having issues with the internal storage, which shows up as 0,00b. Also, i can't unmount/remount the internal SD. A format doesn't help either.
The flashing procedure I followed is like this:
Used Odin to flash the kernel.
I put the new rom on the root of the SDcard using update.zip as it's name and then flashed it at the recovery menu.
I hope someone can help me out with my (one day old) SGS!
I'm guessing you flash BETA stock JV1 before?
JV1 contains new sbl.bin and boot.bin (i'm not sure if GB sammy custom ROM had it), so if you flashed it, most likely you have messed your bootloader, and it'll give you the bug you have right now. (kinda...with some people, external-sd won't mount not internal sd)
The only way to fix it is, you need to flash another ROM which had old sbl.bin/boot.bin with re-partition. Some people stated JPO and JM2 eclair can fix this.
Regarding your data connection, have you check you APN settings. If the problem persist, you should post your issue in related thread. Goodluck
Hope it helped.
PS. Here's one for some reference
I upgraded from a stock Froyo installation to the current setup (Speedmod + Darkys).
I also had the graphical glitch (bootloader fail?) with the Ultibread rom.
But i'll try to go back to the stock 2.1 eclair rom and then retry the entire procedure.
Yay for being a noob at Android flashing
Edit:
Almost forgot. My USB Mass storage mode is also not functioning using Darkys rom..
But i'll try to go back to the stock 2.1 eclair rom and then retry the entire procedure.
Then dont use the roms that give you so much trouble .Go to the rom kitchin and build your own less problems that way .

Hi, I have SGS 1 with stock ROM JPJV6 (arabic)
I flashed the following Chainfire kernel:
CF-Root-XW_NEE_JVH-v3.2-CWM3RFS.tar
Everything was working well, super user, tweaks and the ext4 tool. However, when I tried to convert to ext4 I got the following error message when converting /system:
Not enough space.. Rolling back!
Restoring files...
Rolling back failed! | PANIC!
The other partitions where converted with no problem.
However, when the phone rebooted, super user is not working anymore, also tweaks and ext4 tools are not recognizing the kernel.
I tried flashing the same kernel again but the problem remained.
I tried flashing CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVO-v3.2-CWM3RFS and also the problem remained.
My question is:
1) How can I know the current partition (RFS or exts)?
2) Is it safe to flash the stock JPJV6 ROM to fix all that stuff and return to original firmware without root or ext4?
3) If it is safe, should I select "repartition" in ODIN?
Thanks in advance

dont panic!
yes, just flash back a stock rom with odin with repartition
it will change back to stock RFS
Thanks for replying
I'll try that and tell you what happened...
Try to install a new superuser.apk

The most stable method
Hey guys,
I just wanted to check out the JVR coming from MIUI Galnet RC3 (GB-Bootloader?)
So I downloaded the F1 Innovation V10 CWM Wipe version, put it on my sdcard and installed it. But when I started my i9000, it was still MIUI. What can I do? I did a wipe, dalvik cache wipe, Kernel Cleaning Script.
cheers
Had the same thing. I just flashed JVR using odin in download mode (including pit file).
Not sure why it behaves like this though, didn't really want to look into it at that time
I think you may need to use Odin when going to stock from cm7/miui due to the file system partitioning
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Thanks alot. I tried it with Odin before aswell and it worked. So I wanted to have an easier solution (tried to flash CWM3 because the CWM Rom is just CWM3 compatile and the MIUI got CWM4) That didn't work. So I did it with Odin again.
But every time I flash the Samsung ROM after 2 hours of use I want to go back to MIUI because it hangs alot .
1. u have to flash latest JVQ or JVR via odin to flash custom samsung roms like F1, amestris, darky etc
2. but if u want miui or CM7 then just flash over the custom rom and after that u can upgradeor change to CM7 or miui without flashing stock roms like jvq [CM7=MIUI]
3. and if again u want to go to no. 1 again then u have to do the no.1 step again
the file system and partition are same in MIUI & CM7, but custom roms have defferent file system.
Hello professionals!
I am currently on a vodoo kernel, the bootmenu shows it has ClockWork Recovery 2.5.1. and vodoo lagfix.
Ontop of that I use the stock Samsung ROM with Vodoo Sound.
Root is enabled.
Now I want to upgrade to Gingerbread.
The problem: I don't quite remeber what I did half a year ago and what was important. I followed some guide on here.
Do I have to revert anything?
And how would I go flashing GB? Just use the update.zip on the SD to flash a new Kernel out of recovery mode through CWM and then flash the ROM the same way?
I'd recommend reverting ext4 to rfs filesystem, then flash a complete stock GB firmware /with/ GB bootloaders, after that you can grab any rom/kernel you want if you don't like stock.
GB and froyo bootloaders are different, so if you just try to flash a new gb rom with CWM directly you'd probably softbrick the phone or something
i think the best way is flash newest gingbread rom( JVS 2.3.5) with odin, in odin you need to tick "repartition" and "update bootloader" ! <=this is very important if you used lagfix and froyo rom.
wouldn't a stock GB firmware/bootloader kind of crash with most kernels/roms out there?
Just to be sure, the order is:
-firmware
-then bootloader
-then kernel
-then rom
??
All that after reverting the lagfix and all that via ODIN?
Hello xda users.I have question about lagfix.
I have galaxy S I9000 and currently i'm on XXJVU 2.3.6 odexed stock firmware.
My kernel is semaphore 2.5.0.And i converted the file system rfs to ext4 with "cf ext4 add on" there is no problem so far.But i'm wondering about;
If i'll get a rom issue (like stucking at galaxy s screen or somehing like that) some people says JVU has some bugs.I don't know what i need to do.
If i get an issue like that and if the file system is ext4 what can i do? (Can't enter to recovery, just entering to download) I had this issue beefore but i didn't have ext4 so i flashed rom using odin. But now if i get an issue like that is there any way to change file system when i can't boot up the phone ,stuck at s screen?
thanks in advance
you need to flash a stock rom using the .pit file along with the others (pda modem csc) this resets everything as far as i know
gige is right my lagfix also is always on.
there is no problem at all try reflashing back to stock and it will be back to rfs.
a tip if your lagfix on, try off it first if you want to try various roms especially ics.
cheers
Thanks .both of you
So tell me if i'm wrong;
i can flash stock rom (like XXJVU modem pda csc+pit and re partition checked) while my lagfix is on? Can i flash like that while lagfix on? (I mean did you try it ever? when lagfix on flashing rom from odin? anyone?
