Ok, so I flashed Darchdroid (the newest version 2.7 i think?) and now i dont have voicemail. i really liked the stock voicemail app, is it possible to get this again? if not, does anyone know how to get google voice to take all of your voicemails instead of just the ones to your google voice number?
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps!

another option would be to look 4 posts down from yours in Q&A. im running 2.7 as well and this worked awesome for me. i like the sprint vvm. google voice simply did not work with my cell number. it worked for awhile then just stopped. very weird. did the forwarding and settings all correct and just says "unable to connect the call" when i call my cell from another number. pissed me off. good luck.

That's weird, man. It works great with my phone. Nice link, though. I'm glad to hear it worked. It's always nice to have a choice.
My google voice started doing that took. But I logged I on my pc, and created a google voice number, and no issues. I had never set one up since I was only using voice mail. Now it works fine, and I didn't even have to give anyone my gv number

help a brother out, how is that again? i have a gv number that i forward my cell number to *28850xxxxxxx and a separate one for my voicemail set in the phone but evertime i call my cell # from another phone it says unable to connect call. let me know what you did. thx.
EDIT: Oh I think i see what you mean now. i'll try that. i guess i just assumed that *28850xxxxxxx# was my gv #. thx
yeah, just choose your own google voice number with your own area code, and then when you open google voice on your voice, it will automatically change over, then you just have to dial the *28xxxxxxxxxx code, and good to go
Hi guys,
A friend of mine seems to have a problem with Google Voice - he's American but living in Spain, and he used to use Google Voice to call home.
Well, since he updated to Gingerbread the Google Voice app doesn't show app on his app drawer. He's tried setting the phone's language to American English, apparently to no avail. If he opens the Market and then navigates to the GV app, everything's greyed out and he can't open it from there; there's also no "uninstall" button.
Is there anything he can do to open the app?
Thanks in advance for your help.
He might want to try again with an american SIM card.
Android 2.3.3 Google Voice/Sipdroid Installation for OUTSIDE USA
When I did the manual update of Gingerbread 2.3.3 in Spain, I lost the Google Voice app functionality, as it was not included in the App drawer and all buttons were greyed out, including the Open button on the Android Market. I could not uninstall google voice nor do anything with it.
So here's how I got Sipdroid working on Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 outside the USA!!!!
Sipdroid only requires that Google Voice be installed on the phone to
setup the PBXes account. After Sipdroid is setup, Google Voice is not
needed, and can be uninstalled.
Below are the instructions for those of us outside the USA using Gingerbread 2.3.3 that want to use Sipdroid/Pbxes to make free wifi/3G calling to/from Google Voice. (You will need to already have a google voice number)
1. Download Sipdroid and install from the Android Market.
2. Download the APK file to your phone and install it. This will setup Google Voice and is just needed for the Sipdroid/PBXes setup.
3. Open Google Voice and just Sign In with your Gmail account. You don't need to continue further with the installation, just hit the Home button and then...
4. Open Sipdroid---A small button at the bottom of the application will ask you to setup a PBXes account and you'll just enter your info. Voila, now you can make/receive free USA/Canada phone calls.
Now, google voice will continue to be an app you can use on your phone, however when you reboot the phone, the app will disappear. The good thing is that Sipdroid doesn't now need the Google Voice app to function. (If you do want to use Google Voice in any other way, you can just reinstall it, and it will work until you reboot your phone)
Hope this helps!
Now I can sleep well after solving this..........

Google Employee Looking into Google Voice not working outside USA
Just read over on a Google Support forum:
A google employee is looking into this Google Voice issue on 2.3.3
Hopefully they'll get out a fix for those that need to use GV app shortly.

Until Google gets a fix out the door, one alternative would be to use the Mobile Web version of Google Voice. The only downside is that Android users only get the basic text-based version of Google Voice for Mobile Web. Only webOS users get the really nice graphical mobile web-based version. So unfair!
Google Voice is not available outside us until now
I don't live in USA and I activated Google voice. Using Skype online number. Helps if u want to call someone who is in the states or even USPS cell phone package tracking etc. Now, the VoIP international rates are also attractive to call home.

I'm deployed to Afghanistan with no service. I do however have good access to wifi. Is there anyway to use my capitvate to make/receive calls on wifi only.
I'm guessing that google voice (or some other such service) is probably involved. Thanks in advance.
Yes! With a SIP Provider such as Gizmo5 (new signups currently closed), Google Voice, Google Voice Callback, and Sipdroid or CSipSimple it's possible to use only wifi to make calls. I'll post more information soon.
Step 1 - Register for Google Voice
Step 2 - Register for SIP Account (try sipgate) and make sure it has unlimited free incoming calls
Step 3 - Set up your SIP # with Google Voice
Step 4 - Set up the Call Back app with your google voice info
Step 5 - Set up your SIP application with information from your SIP Provider
Step 6 - Toggle Call Back, Dial Out, Accept the incoming call and wait for the other person to answer!
I think this covers it. I haven't used this set up in a while and I might be missing some information. Let me know if you have any questions.
You could also use netTalk or skype both available in the market.
And thanks for your service to this great country of ours!

Yes! Thanks so much for serving it means a lot. Stay safe.
Att does not support calls and texts through wifi like t mobile. So you will have to use a 3rd party app like google voice as others have said

what about skype?
You can do this..
Download an app called line 2. Its free calls and texts through 3g or wifi and its 10 bucks a month. Not bad for unlimited.

I'm from belgium as too and i also use mobile vikings.
I updated the google voice app on my nexus s but when i need to activate google voice it says i need enable my account by visiting google.com/voice but when i do this it shows a page where i am informed that google voice is not yet available in my country. How did you work around this problem if i may ask?
I went to the site of google voice on my laptop and activated it there

That's kind of strange because when i visit www.google.com/voice on my laptop i get the message "Google Voice is not available in your country."
Did you use a US proxy?
i just went to the site and tried to log in and it worked. didnt do anything special.
same here. can log in and on mobile ' cannot verify my number'.
maybe something with mobile vikings? somebody tried this with mobistar/proximus?
Try with GrooVe IP - works for me.
nothing here on mobistar says cannot verify number after giving the pin on the app. I can go to voice.google.com and see a really basic voice site where i can top up account and call ppl but no voice number and stuff. If i use a proxy for voice.google.com then i can add a number and alot more but there it says international phone numbers aren't allowed.
Verification
Hey I'm with proximus and always gets the cannot verify code
wrong number in the device

I'm also a Viking stuck on the "cannot verify my number".
On the desktop side, everything works fine, I can call, and my correct phone number is used.
However, I noticed something strange in my android.
In the Settings / About device / Status: my phone number is wrong.
I got the same wrong number in "Network info II" app
Maybe the problem is linked to that.

I have the same setup. My phone number was wrong too. I corrected it and rebooted. But no luck, still stuck with the "your phone number could not be verified"
Hello it seems Google Voice is not compatible with the Bionic. Is there a manual work around? I remember reading a while back a way to do this with the thunderbolt. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It says: unfortunately your carrier is not supported for automatic voicemail configuration. To use google voice as your voicemail provider, please visit the google voice help center more more information.
I got that error message too, but the voice mail does in fact work ok.
The problem I am having is that my google voice number is not showing as the calling number, even though it is set to be. I have tried changing the settings to ask each time, and it does not ask. It is still not working after rebooting too.

Just go to the google voice site on a computer and enter your phone number manually in the google voice settings on the website. It is a very self explanatory process once there. After that, go into your wireless network settings on your bionic and change the Voicemail settings from "my carrier" to "google voice." Not sure where this is on motoblur, but just look around and you should find it. If you get an error message or it freezes, do a reboot, go into the settings again and verify google voice is selected in the Voicemail settings. You should be okay after this.

Thanks for your help gotta it!
So caller id still shows my actual phone number and not my google voice number even when it is configured to do so. Any one else have this problem?
That error came at the point (for me) where it should automatically insert *71###-###-#### (*71 + your google number) in to the dialer to forward missed calls. So I did it manually and GVoice has worked fine for me. I did get one FC, but not sure if it was because of debloat or actual GVoice app. Other than that I have made calls, recieved Vmails and texts through GVoice just fine.

uninstall the app and try rerunning the setup, making sure you select use google voice for calls or ask when I make a call.
