[MOD][NS][NS4G]FaceLock for ICS 4.0.3 - Nexus S Android Development

Hi!
If you miss it the facelock feature from ICS 4.0.3 (NS-NS4G), flash this file and try.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54258750/FaceLock (4.0.2 - 235179).zip
md5: 9a143b8cd4213c554cdcd21bc80ac5b2
1. copy FaceLock (4.0.2 - 235179).zip to 'USB Storage'
2. reboot recovery and install
App version: 4.0.2 - 235179, shows 4.0.3 in applications.
Tested, and working, but slow, and the face recognition sometimes is not perfect.
(probably because of the nexus s vga camera)

downloading.. let's give facelock a chance!

Installed on CM9 Alpha17... it works very well, after a few more detections using "improve face detection" option, it recognizes my face almost always

Thanks it works!
It's not perfect, but funny
EDIT:
But I think the recording of a face needs much longer than on a Galaxy Nexus...

Works great on stock. Not that practical, but great for showing off

Took around 30 seconds to record my face for the first time and then tried like 20 times and worked 20 times haha also was pretty fast :S faster than using a pattern for example

Oh btw im on beam 4.1.0 with glados 2.3 and i9020A unlocked from factory

Thanks,
works quite nice actually.

Looks like I'm the only one it's not working for!
I can set it up fine, but when I try to actually unlock the phone, it just freezes at the first attempt. No way out but to pull the battery.

everything seems to work perfectly here.. has recognized my face every single time

Awesome, now my nexus s is truly rich with features. Thanks OP.

Works Great

It only recognized my face once...

does anyone know if this has been implemented on cm9 a18?

Yes, face unlock is implemented. From Kalim's CM9 thread here.

if it becomes unstable and doesnt seem to work well for some, how would one uninstall it using stock rom?

[ROM] Tranquility 3.0

I'm not sure why it hasn't been mentioned on XDA yet, but TQ 3.0 has been released:
I'm only putting it out here, so if someone wants to make an official thread then go ahead. I'm amazed no one has said anything here... unless I'm missing something. Looks sweet!
READ ALL THE WARNINGS - especially Rubix users:
I'm leaving the below link in the post just in case, but the rom owner asked me to update the OP with a direct link. Don't worry, I tested the link, it's not malicious. Please visit this link first :

Thanks,
Installed and seems like this ROM is solid....no bug(s) yet....nice
Confused
This is supposed to be a blurless rom, correct? I loaded it last night, and def still has blur in it.... When I get home I'll have to see if it actually deodexed like it promised. Even Contacts are still blur...
I will say that it's FAST though..

All of the current ROMS have *some* level of Blur. Since we cannot bypass the Moto Kernel, there are some levels of base code that just have to be there.
Tranquility, Apex, zapX, and Rubix 0.5 were all built on the 2.3.15 release and then removed as much of the blur components as they could and still have it function.
Fission & Rubix 1.0 built from a base that came out of the Droid2 SDK which appears to be very stock Android and therefore, they are a little more 'blur-less' than others. Which is both good and bad. Time is showing that some of the blur components have some nice functionality that people are missing when they go completely blur-less.

This is absolutely true and was the same for the D1 except it wasn't Blur, but you can't build AOSP for D1 either without using the extract-files.sh to pull all of the proprietary components that make the phone work.
It's a basic truth about phone firmware.
can anyone tell me how the contacts list comes up aosp style or blur< i noticed blur has a thing to merge my phone contact with fb and twitter< without having to use the same name on fb and my contact info. please let me know thanks guys!!

I hate to say this, but maybe you should post this on either droidworld or another forum with an active thread. I doubt you'd get much support over here, not sure why. Tranquil. doesn't seem to be popular around here. I didn't see you mention trying a nandroid restore.... did you?

From what I read you may want to do a sbf back to stock 2.2 then install this.
I am seriously considering installing this to test out but want a little more feedback from users as to any possible issues (mail/pop3 etc..)

Its running pretty damn good for me. And since I have Tasker set up to sync my data every 30 mins, my battery life is great also. I'd imagine it would be even better if I set it to sync every 45 or 60 mins.
Love TranQ3.0, and I never thought I'd be saying that.

So far, I've had like maybe one or two glitches.... sometimes after a reboot the boot screen gets left on the lock screen, so you can still unlock your phone, but you have to guess where the sliders are.
another is that the calendar widget doesn't work.
Other then those two, the rom is FAST, stable, and battery life has been great. Worth it to me in my opinion... It's not an ASOP "experience" though... it's more like a hybrid.
Like it so far though, it's my daily driver.
Edit: Also, this applies to STOCK people (running the 2.2 OTA).... I was odexed, completely stock..... installed this rom with ease: no wiping, no formatting, nada. AND it deodexed my phone for me.... LOVE THAT.

I have bought tasker aS well (the stock rom doesn't let the os sleep when gps is enabled so I bought it to turn it on and off for all my apps)
Now I like your idea of syncing every 30 but I use google voice exclusively. And the voice app. Does that mean if I turn off my sync I won't get my messages in a timely mater?

This rom also doesn't seem to sleep when wick is on. Am I missing something? Anyway I do see how this can save a lot a battery with the screen dining and everything. I had to wipe my phone to get it to work. Last time I tried when I booted every system app was force closing. I feel like this is a little slower than rubix but way faster then stock. Could be too the drawer just doesn't feel right. Too bouncy for me to use quickly. Ill probably go to pro launcher. But if I don't want to how do I customize the 4 apps at the bottom? Its driving me nuts

Bugs
it is very buggy, u can use face detection lockscreen, all gba dosent work, some apps just close simultanly (they are still open in background), video recording only 720p, is is still better than stock rom, the good part: u can use google chrome, and connect a wii remote controller
Sorry i'm not the coder of this ROM but i think with the next updates it will became stable. There are a lot of bug but the most important functionality work
will it will be easy to come back to CM7 as clean everything and flash the CM from CWM?
Is there a recent apps button?
My favourite feature on my Transformer Prime
Arcee hasn't guaranteed continued support for this build. We just have to hope for it.
Most general functions work anyway and battery life is pretty good. Been using it all day and the phone is faster than I've ever seen it.
Really hope he carries on this project until we have a fully working, stable build.
Edit: Hold home button for recent apps list.....yeh, it's there.... ;-)

There's no video recording at all. That's because there's no media encoding/decoding available yet. It will crash the camera as soon you start recording.

Make a nandroid backup in CWM of your current CM7 ROM. You can go back and forth between them. This is my second time on CM9. I'm trying something. Maybe I'll go back later to CM7 again.

Only issue for now is the battery consumption, which is quite high. I can't last 8 hours on it. Maybe it will improve over some charging cycles, but it's too cool to give up for now. Otherwise, everything seems to work quite ok, even a2dp works. Maybe FM-radio doesn't work, but I don't really care anyway

Damn awesome! Also I just cannot understand what is happening with my battery: yesterday after installing the rom i charged it full and then unplugged.
I still have 81% remaining battery after 19 hours of use between wifi, camera, music and like 30 minutes of calls. If isn't just a visual bug it is awesome!

Edit: Works fine on Nottatrix 1.3.1. Will test it further over the next few days, but it seems to improve sensitivity of the touch recognition (especially when the screen is a little grimy).
Gonna test this and see how it works I'm on jokers CM9

With the touch patch stable v1.
It makes the screen really snappy, but sometimes that's limiting. Without a very steady finger it's next to impossible to produce an absolute precise touch

In case we want the stock thing again?
If it is, i ll try this mod!

Does this mod genuinely make a difference or is it placebo effect?
And how does the fast one differ from the normal one in terms of touch sensitivity?
Lastly, does this mod work with CM9 and improve the dodgy touch sensitivity?
Sorry if this post sounds negative, I don't intend it that way. I've said it before, but AndroidON always makes really cool mods and this isn't an exception. So big props once again
Who said this didn't work with Neutrino? Mines working perfectly... but could it be because I installed the patch via ADB?
Anyways, my first impression is that scrolling certainly feels smoother and more 'iphone-y' - which is a good thing
It seems to act more sensitive also and swipes seem to register faster and more accurately. This really shows when you play 'Temple Run,' I actually died the first few rounds being so used to the original 'non-sensitive' touchscreen but after that, it certainly felt more snappy.
However, I did find a few niggles which are kinda hard to explain tbh. But strangely, after a reboot, it seemed to have fixed itself, which is odd but great nonetheless. I'm not fully convinced that these issues are fixed but I'll report back, but I'm sure it will be fixed in V2.
I also tried the fast version, but it was kinda weird. Especially the notification tray, it pulls down and pulls up really fast and it looks a bit weird. Also, touch responses also seemed slightly fishy. So I also recommend the stable one.
Look's like this mod may be cooked it V2.8 Neutrino - if the OP doesn't mind?

Scrolling is definetly faster... but see my video on this. Tried it on your V2.8 EE beta... wiped cache/dalvik after flashing the stable version. I am NOT gonna try the fast one, lol.

Yep, that was the problem I also experienced but couldn't really explain. When you hold anything down, it spazzes up. Like try to select a a letter in a word and 'hold' your finger there, the arrow thingy will just keep 'shaking.'
If that makes sense...
That seems to be the only main issue really. I just tried the messaging app and WOW, typing is MUCH faster than before.

I made three more reboots. Plus, I played Dark Legends for about 20 minutes. Now, I made another reboot.
In Multitouch Visualiser, I don't see glitches anymore. Having two touch points on the same axis works very well. When a third/fourth/fifth touch point comes into play, things remain the same though - problematic.
Edit : NOPE. Nevermind that. It still is glitchy, even with two touch points... Just like in the video... So, nothing has improved.

I've come across all of the same issues. Minor screen issues with distortion... Other than that, it's pretty much a daily driver. I think I'll remove Carbon ROM and replace it with CM11 in slot one. It's going to be a daily driver for me. GPS seems stable.
Are you guys geting the weird random screen glitches?
Yeah, that's one of the bugs. It's not that bad though. It's only occasionally.
Yall lucky you don't need wifi tether lol. I don't have home Internet and I depend on my phones tether

Yeah been getting those its a problem with OMAP phones as TI has not updated the GPU drivers or kernel for our phones so were stuck with a 3.0 kernel (which is eol now) and old depreciated drivers which wont be updated either but I have faith in the devs that they will be able to overcome these problems

Same issue the galaxy nexus is experiencing with 4.4 :banghead:

I've tried it , it seems that there are no serious issues and can be daily used! The same issue as nexus s---su permission denied, and we should flash a supersu-1.75.zip to avoid this. Thanks Dhacker29 for his hard work!

I didn't notice an issue with SU yet. I'll flash the update later.
Anyone able to do a screenshot on the build from today? It gives a notification saying 'Couldn't save screenshot. Storage may be busy.'
If anybody finds a way to get wifi tether to work, let me know. I'm eager to run this as my daily driver but I need wifi tether lol

Also Bluetooth is working fine and all phone functions so far and A2DP works too.

Going to load this up for a spell. Also you guys might be installing the wrong gapps. I know there is a link in the folder, but this is a set uploaded on dhakers devhost.

Won't allow any devices to connect to it. My wifi tether turns on just fine. When I try to connect with my pc or PS it fails to connrct
Holy crap Batman. I can't believe how well this ROM is performing. Got to hand it to Dhacker, for a first build this is just amazing
Here's what I've tested so far:
WiFi connected after first boot.
GPS works as expected.
Syncing Google accounts took a bit longer but work.
SMS/MMS work but after the first boot was getting a weird message that "APN was not configured" or something to that effect. After another reboot MMS worked
WiFi tether does not work, phone looks as it is working as a hotspot but devices can not connect.
Can not test 3g at the moment.
Have only seen the screen artifacting once or twice. Definitely not an issue in my book
Benchmarks for what they are worth are on par with CM 10.1.3
I must admit I was one of the Na Sayers about 4.4 coming to our bionics but I must say Dhacker has made me eat my words:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:
Truly impressed.

For me the screen artifacts were only with rotation on but I haven't seen it since I locked rotation and that's how I prefer it anyway.

Only 2GB of RAM in Nexus 5? No problem! (great memory management)

In 2016 2GB of RAM in smartphones is nothing special, it's a minimum to get Android working good. Flagships have 4GB of RAM, OnePlus 3 even more. But... I'm so impressed how my Nexus 5 can handle apps running in background. I've been always satisfied with overall speed and memory management and now I can see it even more. Today I've made a completely clean flash with DARK ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/rom-dark-rom-t3368248 and I opened couple of my apps.
So I ran:
MAPS.ME
Chrome Dev with 1 website opened
Instagram
Twitter
Facebook Messenger
Play Store
Phone app
Youtube
Spotify
Weather Timeline
WhatsApp
Tapatalk
QuickPic v4.5.2
Settings app
After open of each app, of course, I tapped home button, not back button. I did not only open each app but I did navigate a little, for example in Youtube I ran a video and THEN I tapped home button. So every app was running 100%. And guess what... EVERY app stayed in memory, when I relaunched every app, I haven't any reload, every app was working exactly as after first run. And everything was 100% smooth and fast. I wash I had a good camera to record a video, but I will try to capture it in few days. But why would I lie? [emoji14] Every Nexus 5 user should believe me, I guess. Of course, probably custom ROM and kernel make a difference in compare to stock ROM. Also, each ROM can work better or worse. So what's your experience when it comes to memory management in our 3 YEARS OLD device? (sorry for my not perfect English)

What part of my post do you not understand?
What's the point of it? I think that everyone who have a Nexus 5 knows it already.
But anyway, everybody is free to talk here. Thank you.

And everyone who doesn't have a Nexus 5 doesn't know about it.
And who would be accessing the thead of a 3 year old phone, if not the few owners?

No need to fight guys. I'm still rocking my Nexus 5 CM 13 Snapshot + ElementalX Kernel. Smooth, fast, no problems, feels always like a new phone.

The post is really good in my opinion im pretty sure it really depends on the ROM and not on every ROM that will work for example the CM13 was alot faster than dirty unicorns ( Im currently running ) but i really like the rom its just all about modding ( i enabled the gesture the omni switch and there is alot more ) [the phone is fully loaded in tasks but still abale to be really good phone without any freezes or lags

Hi im not sure why you bought the phone but i can recommend you a few thinks just to know
-Elemental X is a great kernel
works With CM DU and Stock (not caf)
____MODS______
there is a stereo mod for nexus ( you are going to use your phone call speaker as a normal one )
Extra smoth mod really good mod but it includes new video driver so beware you doesnt have to worry about installing it
Nexus Volume booster there is an app at the play store wich creates a custom zips for this and it actually working !
PHYSICAL MOD I CANT REALLY RECOMMEND YOU DOING THIS AND I NOT GIVING ANY WARRANTY i just took apart my phone (its not that simple be really of the battery don't bend it if you are trying to get it out ( recommend you not doing this ) when you removing the battery connector DON'T bend it too much or it may break OK and be really gentle with the antennas so what are you have to do it sound really simple just apply thermal paste ( it helped me alot for some reason my phone was really Thermal Throttling all the time ) take the primary mobo out you doesnt have to take out the little board above the primary one dont forget to disconnect the camera )
( there is a really good root toolkit it includes back ups lock and unlocks of the boot loader custom recoveries in other words all the good stuff just search in google "nexus root toolkit")
hear is a few tips from experienced nexus 5 user
[if that helped you don't be mad bro just press the thanks button ]:good:
This makes me so proud to be an owner of a such beautiful device. I see people selling it on second hand sites for almost nothing, I actually thing of grabbing another one, or two.
And recently Im more into trying to get my old phones work good(nexus 4 - cm 12.1 - works like a breeze, galaxy sIII MINI - cm 12.1 unofficial - very impressed about how I got it to work, galaxy s plus - gingerRevenge - still works quite good with lighter tasks. And I bet there are a lot more older phones that still works good today.
I tell u. People dont know how to apreciate good tehnology. Also I hate this marketing making u buy a new phone every year.
