I have a stock ATT 8.9 LTE that I just finished rooting (Thanks Da_G!). I want to pull off the ATT bloat (ie FamilyMap, YPages, Navigator) but would like to make sure they are available for reinstallation for whatever reason.
Anyone willing to share insight as the best way to do this? I have VERY limited knowledge of Android as this is my first device (excluding the SR II S they tossed me when I bought the tab).
Thanks-
(COMPLETE) _Thanks for the replies. Bloat free.
I have a system dump which should have all stock apk files.

Titanium backup is the best to remove the bloat as well.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
if you are using the ATT version, then the bloat should be available in the Android market to redownload if you like something. If not, stock APK's are available
to get rid of bloatware. Root, titanium backup, custom ROM
I use "bloat freezer" for that, it's in the market, free
As Orlando offered, I would also recommend Titanium Backup.
Titanium Backup can "freeze" apps, without removing them from the ROM!
So you don't have to completely delete them in order to disable them.
If you are sure you don't need them anymore ,it can also remove them completely.

If you are rooted then you can just use titanium backup which will backup all your apps and settings.
if not rooted phone cant do the full back-up ???
Nope, you need a rooted phone to be able to backup everything.
Hi,
if u fear that u will have 2 pay for the applications again, then be cool...android markets keeps track of all applications and the ones for which paid. so u can install then again without paying

Hi guys,
I am tired of waiting for the official ICS update and went ahead and flashed the 'We want ICS' rom and it is GREEEEAT. I made a backup but just want to know if I can get all the apps I had before if I restore the backup or will it take me back to GB. I am on Android 4 now so do I restore or no? I did it using ROM manager

Coming from GB to ICS, it's probably best to download your apps again or install apps only if you have a Titanium Backup.

Using Titanium Backup is not recommended...might cause problems in ROM and ud have to reflash. Install all apps again its the best way.

It's probably a NAND backup you did. This backup contains images of all the partitions of your old ROM. So if you restore, it will restore GB as it was when you did the backup. To restore only your apps you should have used an app like Titanium Backup.
Edit : If you really want to restore you apps you can still restore GB from your Backup, install Titanium Backup, make a backup of your apps and flash again We Want ICS in which you will then be able to restore your apps (Edit 2 : you should use compro01's method, it's faster)
2 options
1. redownload your apps - Easiest way is once you have the play store functioning on the device, just go to https://play.google.com/apps, log in, and wail on the install buttons.
2. if you don't want to do that (e.g. excessive drain on transfer cap and no wifi available) or can't for some reason (e.g. app was removed from the store, but you still want it, like the tricorder (CBS are assholes)), open up the backup folder (/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/[nameofbackup]. This is most easily accomplished on a computer rather than on the device) and open the data.[filesystem].tar file. All the apks for the installed apps are in the apps folder. system apps are in same folder in the system.[filesystem].tar file, but you're probably not interested in anything in there.
Just copy out the apks you're needing, and install away. You may need to turn on "install from unknown sources" under the development options.
Note that neither of these methods will preserve your settings from your apps nor any of their other data (saved games, passwords, etc.). if you have stuff you need for some reason, you'd need to go through the above mentioned 3rd option of backing up your current WWICS install, then restoring your previous ROM, backing up all your relevant apps with Ti or another app, restoring your backup of the WWICS ROM, and using Ti/whatever to restore the backed up apps, all whilst hoping that restoring apps from different bases doesn't break things too horribly.
I prefer titanium backup because my app data will also be backup'd

Check to see what filters are in use, if any. If you set a filter to show only uninstalled apps you should see your backups.
Ahh.... I'll have a look next time I flash a new rom

You must be very carefull when using titanium backup and changing roms, since you are coming from GB to ICS thats a completly new and different version of OS and may have problems when restoring too many apps, I suggest that you restore backups one by one app, so if you get some Fc's you can see which app is to blame, and definitly do not restore any settings or system apps

I use Titanium Backup
I use My Backup and it is great. I have found no problems restoring all my apps between different roms.
And if you need to you can either restore the app or app and data

I just got this phone last Friday. It's my first Android phone, but I've used Android before on my Kindle Fire, which I rooted and tried all sorts of ROMs and customized the hell out of it.
So I was really excited today when I found out about the root package! I just got it rooted, had to factory reset first, but that's OK. But since my phone is a Canada Bell model (and I live in the US), it's a got a bunch of apps that I can't use and don't want.
I googled and found a site that gives a tutorial how to use Android Mate to remove the crapware, but in searching through /system/apps, I don't see the Bell stuff, maybe I missed it or it's named something different.
Any tried doing this yet?
Instead of removing them, I suggest you freeze them with titanium backup. Download it from play store, open it, click restore/backup, tap the app you don't want and select freeze. It saves headache and it's not like our phone has a lack of free memory

System Tuner allows you to uninstall system apps as. Forgot that setcpu wakes up the phone a lot when profiles are active but system tuner is also good for underclocking.

Use Titanium Backup and just freeze as was already mentioned. Otherwise, you'll be screwed when we get jelly bean because you won't get the update without all stock apps.

In case you haven't been paying attention to the update schedule, here it is http://phandroid.com/2012/10/19/mot...-updates-jelly-bean-release-schedule-as-well/
We won't be getting JB until next year.
If we don't have a recovery program by then to flash ROMs, this phone won't be worth keeping.
So your point is moot.

Good day friends,
I did erase APK's from /system/app and /system/vendor/app and /system/preinstalled/, but, i till get the icons for att familymap, amazon kindle, live tv, mesages, myatt, qik lite and real racing2.
Is there anything else i am missing in order to get rid of this apps ?
I do understand the phone has enough resources to carry these apps around, but i just dont like having stuff that i dont really use.
Also, I know how to fastboot to fxz in case i screw something up.
Use titanium to un install them

alright then, ill give it a shot !
Yep, a combination of TiBu and rm -r did the trick ! thank you very much !
I went crazy after root and deleted almost all bloatware...
However I realized that after deleting YP mobile stock app, the option in contacts for YP does not work
I re-downloaded YP from the market but it's still no go...
Can somebody upload stock YP apk and tell me where to put it since I am not sure was it in system/app or in system/vendor/app
Or at least if you can give me name of the original stock app and its location I can try to rename the one from the market and move it to its appropriate folder.
Thanks

Addition
I have made a new idea on removing bloatwares. The idea is that the user can select the apps that are to be deleted in aroma. I have already made a project regarding this but only for my device. You can port it to your device and maybe share this with everyone.

Ok im running stock ICS on my vivid and im wanting to get rid of all the AT&T junk.I Tried freezing some with titanium backup but it says i have to donate to freeze the apps.I want them gone not just frozen. It gives me the option to delete but i can't find a list of things that are safe to remove anywhere.Im running the stock htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_R23_US.Is there a tool that will do this anywhere?Or i can do it manually but it would be great if i had a complete list of things to remove without causing errors..I was running some custom ROMS but came back to stock due to in-call volume issues. Thanks in advance.

If you use titanium back up pro which I highly suggest you can remove system apps yes you have to pay but imho it is worth it. That will be the easiest way probably but be carefull and only remove apps that are not needed. There are system apps that are needed and if you remove them you can run into a world of hurt
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda app-developers app
anything branded At&T should be completely safe to remove. any other programs you want to remove just make sure you have a back up in Titanium (incase deleteing/uninstalling it does mess something up).
edit: Root uninstaller is free and will uninstall anything, and always make sure you have a back up of anything you cant stand to loose(just in case)

Just flash one of the debloated roms on the forum, no need for you to go one by one wondering if its safe or not.

so what do you guys do when you flash a new rom and want to reinstall all your apps again? i know you can use titanium backup and reinstall all your backups (app+data), but i also do know that generally this is not a good idea if going from say, touchwiz to aosp or cm. i remember someone telling me that TiBU can generate a zip file with all the apks to install in recovery after a flash.
for the most part nowadays i just go on play.google.com and visit "my apps" and just install from there, and nowadays most apps sync to google or facebook. but i can't help but think that this is a tedious way of accomplishing a recovery
any advice appreciated. thanks!
An easy way to do it without having the apps backed up is to visit the play store and click on "my apps" it should have every app there that you have ever downloaded/purchased using your current gmail address.

OK... Let me enlighten everyone here...
We don't have AOSP on this device. So you can only go TW to TW.
Apps and app data are fine to transfer from phone to phone no matter what the ROM is. However, system data is not ever a good idea to transfer unless it is the same ROM and the same version of ROM. So with that being said, you can use Titanium Backup to do what you need. It's much quicker.
