Hello guys,
I've got a very very big problem with my LG p990 Optimus 2X.
After I upgrade it to 2.3.4, I found it's VERY often to lost 3G signal and never try to reconnect back.
Every time when I found its signal dead, I found these is very good signal received in system status fields.
And my friend's HTC desire showed very good signal and had a very good performance about net speed.
I've removed most software but still no help.
Is anyone has the same problem?
If not, please tell me solution or system version you have in yours, thanks.
Below is details about my phone:
============================
Android version
2.3.4
Baseband version
1035.21_20110823
Kernel version
2.6.32.9-HP_2x_Xtreme_SR2
Build number
GRJ22
LGE Version
LGP990-V20e
=================================
i disabled 3g because the signal is always at 0-1 and sucks a ton of battery.
i tried almost all basebands an its always the same really bad signal and some disconnect entirely.
if you need 3g and are on stock i would return your device for repair... they probably just reflash it and dont repair it several times....

Try disabling automatic time. Use app like clocksync from market to sync time.
When I'm on automatic time, every now and then I'll get disconnected from network and it won't restore till either I reboot or turn off automatic time.
Hi grognaz
I think it's not device bad, seems baseband problem.
Thanks temasek ,
I'll try to trun off automatic time sync and see if 3G work fine or not.
I'm facing the same problem, the phone have full bars and suddenly loses signal.
To make it worse, if I dont turn on/off airplane mode or reboot the phone, it remains out of reach.
I have the same problem and this problem is increased when Wlan is On. When I turn it off, the signal comes again
i got the same problem too, but this just happen on this few weeks after upgrade.
very bad LG ...
Try another BB and always use a matching RIL.
You could try 725 - many are satisfied with it.
If you have a "made in korea" model use BB 824 (you'll find that info under the battery - more info here)
I encountered the same problem, very disappointed. ve been waiting for the update long time........what should we do?The phone is not reliable right now, missed a lot of calls.........
Hello all,
I've tried to trun off automatic time adjust but of no use. My phone still disconnect very often.
Now I restore it to v10e baseband and v10e ROM, then update to FR19(v10c).
During these two days, no more disconnect happen again.
Though using smooth is important, but I think reliable is more important.
Hope this help.
I confirm that disabling automatic time won't solve the issue. The problem is very annoying, everytime the phone loses signal it's stay out of reach forever if you don't reboot or switch plane mode on/off.
Everyday when I park my car in a building garage or when I enter in a elevator my phone loses the signal (this is normal, heavy reinforced concrete buildings) and stay out of reach forever (this is not normal).
LG really screwed up on this one, this problem started after the last GB update.

I have the same problem. When i get in a elevator i get no signal after i get out. The funny thing is, eve tho i cant make calls, i CAN receive calls in that state .
When i check the phone status i see that i get signal strength readings, just unknown network and service state says "out of service".
Can anybody else receive calls in that state??
i´m on modacos gr5...no problems
If you are rooted try installing another ril preferably a froyo one using the app get ril to see if it solves the issue.

had this problem on CM7.2 temasek build 23 (it would just completely lose signal randomly.. even if i'm in open space with full reception and airplane mode would be enabled and i can't disable it unless i reboot)
i seem to have fixed it by using GetRIL (725 V10d on 725BB).. my call quality is good according to the other end and my phone no longer goes into airplane mode.. but my signal still varies a lot. in my room it ranges from 0 bars to 4 bars on 3G/H
Same here, Very bad 3G signal, But no problem with calls or Edge, Just with 3G, Using Thanatos, HP kernell and 725 Baseband from v20M and v20o RIL.
Same problem here
My O2x (P990) is also made in Korea (for Italian market) but doesn't work with either BB823 or BB824.
Automatic time is switched off.
I also tried v10d and v20l. I can use v20l but only when mobile data is set to GSM only (2G only). When using 3G I experience MUCH faster battery drain, like 5% per hour in standby with the screen turned off.
Note: I always use matching RILs and double-check with GetRIL.
I am running tomasek's CM7.2 KANG (thanks tomasek, good work!).
Is there a solution for using a made in Korea O2x made for Italian market on Croatian network carrier (T-Mobile) ?
This problem of signal loss, is it only the phones are made in Korea?

just to confirm that this didn't fix my disconnection issue.
i have tried these RILS:
# 0725 V10d Europe
# 0725 V10d Europe, V10e Asia
# 0725 V10e Russia
for my 1035.21_20110725 baseband.. and all of them still disconnect me completely from the network (goes into airplane mode) until i reboot
hmm seems like turning off auto time sync has actually helped me.. i haven't had the no service issue in 2 days since turning it off

Is there an app that can not only switch off my data but also switch to 2G while i am connected to wifi or my screen is turned off (i have better 2g signal in my area)?
the ideal app should be able to switch between these settings
screen off
2G, data on at xx min intervals (for sync, similar to 2x battery), no wifi.
screen on but locked : as above
screen on unlocked
search wifi - if available connect and keep 2G. If not available, switch wifi off, turn on 3G+data.
Well... yes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530&highlight=toggle+2g+3g
But you need a modified rom for that. Either you modify it yoursef (see thread) or use a pre-modified one. Some people say, it's quite good, some say it makes the phone a bit instable.
I used it myself with a gueste ROM and was satified with the funktions. It really worked. But I had some problems with wifi then. Well, you could give it a try.
Cheers
Thanks for the thread.
At first glance the CM6 people seem to have problems. I am running CM7 temasek KANG 204-20 with vadonka's kernel. I'll download the zip and try it via CWM. Will report back
i think the mobile network settings get ignored when wifi is enabled, whe i have it disabled and use 2g only i always have max connection but when wifi is enabled or 3g network i have very low connection when it changes to 3g wcdma...
i searched for an app to display the status of whe network and tried hidden menu but it seema its not getting updates while wifi is enabled:/
anyone experiencing similar behaviors?

so. after some hours testing i can say that it works for me. i use it in conjunction with battery 2x.
when my screen is off toggle2g switches to 2G network and 2x battery enables data every 15min for sync.
when the screen is on battery 2x re-enables data but it remains in 2g network thanks to toggle2g (i have selected the option to manually re-enable 3g)
when i turn my wifi on toggle2g switches to 2g network (although it takes some time.. like 10-15s)
so.. these 2 apps seem to do the trick for me. Lost 9% over the night (still don't know if it's good or bad) and used to lose about 20%.
Hello
I bought the P880 about two weeks ago.
Unfortunately I notice a WiFi issue ; I don't know if this is affecting only my phone or if all p880 have this issue.
At low WiFi signal the download speed is very low compared with other LG phones.
Strange is that the upload speed is always better in the above conditions.
This issue is present only at low WiFi signal on good signal there is no problem.
I don't know if is a HW problem or a SW problem.
Maybe the WiFi chip is not as sensitive as the chips from previous LG phones.
Also is possible to be a SW issue (maybe is something wrong in the WiFi RF calibration)
Or maybe my phone has a fault.
Below is link from a video where I compared WiFi speeds between LGE730/LGP990black/LGP940/LGP880/LGP990white connected to the same network in poor signal conditions.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afEKaHW7-pQ
If any of the users of the p880 notice this symptom please let me know.
Thank you

I have the same issue. At the same place my previous Huawei Ideos X5 got stable connection although poor, but this Optimus 4x gets on and off connection.
This poor wifi connectivity is very annoying.
Unfortunately I do not have the possibility to exchange the phone because I don't have waranty.
Now after some good weeks spend with the P880 I also noticed the latency over wifi is high.
For example the ping on other phone was 12ms and on the P880 is always greater then 180ms.
I hope the optimus G will be released soon in Europe and hopefully then I will get rid of this wifi problem
I'm now with a ping of almost 1900ms, but I'm in a shopping centre almost without signal At home generally is around 12ms.

Hello,
Since a couple of weeks I've been having some issues with my beloved phone: the LG Optimus 2X Speed (P990) running the latest and greatest Cyanogenmod 7. And I was hoping that you could help me with that.
The Problem
My phone, and my previous phones have always had great service reception. I would never find my phone with two bars or less, unless it was brain-dead out of juice. I've always had the same provider (T-Mobile NL) and I've never experienced any problems with them.
However, in the last couple of weeks my phone can't find my network more often and often. I'd check my phone to see why I haven't gotten text-ed in the last minute or so, and it would be offline. Zero bars and status "No Service". At the beginning, I could put Airplane mode on, and then off again and it would reconnect. But since a couple of days that won't work either. I can put the telephone into airplane modus, but it gets stuck in it.
The button remains gray saying "Disabling Connections". If you go back, and into the Connection settings again the button can be pressed but indefinitely keeps the phone in airplane mode. The only way to enable connections again is to completely restart the phone. And as of lately I find myself having to reboot the device about 1-4 times a day.
Could you help me with this?

Obviously CM7 went a little crazy! I don`t think it`s hardvare problem and the most safe and secure thing u can do is to go back to stock rom and root and reflash CM7 again!!! Android is weird system and many weird things happen to many people. If u have few hours to spare u should begin there and see what happens. If that doesn`t solve your problem than u can start thinking about hardware failure (maybe SIM card, maybe phone antena). But i`m allmost positive it`s software isue. :good:
Disable the automatic date and time (network-provided one). See if that helps.
That was preventing my P990 from getting network at all after a cold boot.
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. Disabling network-provided time helped (i.e. the phone connects to the network and data connection is up), but I was wondering if this is a bug and if there's a thread or a resource discussing this issue? Btw, the phone has been having some minor connectivity issues in CM 7.1 as well, but otherwise CM7 is useable.
Phone: LG-P990 (Optimus 2X), "Made in Korea" under the battery, does that mean for sure it's the SU660 flavour?
Carrier: Fido (Rogers Wireless), Canada
ROM: CM 10.1-20130722-UNOFFICIAL-p990 (tonyp build version 5) (Wiped and flashed on 2013.08.27)
Kernel: 2.6.39.4-kowalski-exp
Basebands tried: (none get me data connectivity)
LGP990hNAT-00-V25h-FID-CA-FEB-22-2012+0 (Original)
725 V10d (shows as Unknown in About Phone)
450 V20m SU660 (EDGE only)
OK, Correction...
Only the Wi-Fi connection was up. The cellular connection indicator was blue, which has led me to believe that cellular data connection was up as well. When Wi-Fi is disabled, the cellular connection indicator goes white and there's no data connectivity.
Furthermore, even though basic cellular connectivity was available for approx. 8 hours during the night, as soon as I left home and started moving it started dropping out. For example, I was only connected ~30% of the time for the past hour (and the reception along my usual route is normally great).
Toggling network-provided time doesn't seem to have an effect now, but the old tricks (toggling cellular connection, going into Airplane Mode, rebooting phone) seem to restore cellular connection for a brief period.
I also noticed that often when I would launch a data-using application (Internet browser, gmail app) cellular connectivity would be lost in a minute or so (saying No Service).
I've tried looking into "logcat -b radio" for ideas, but I don't quite understand what's happening here (willing to learn though).
Help...
I have installed CM7.2 (official CM) and CM10.1 (tonyp 5, oldbl) with dual boot and can now switch between the two ROMs. I have good cellular and data connectivity in CM7.2, but no data connectivity even after a fresh install of CM10.1.
I assume the baseband has nothing to do with this since both ROMs are using the same.
So, armed with a dual boot device, the n00b is ready to do troubleshooting! It only needs guidance now... Help?
Hi, I am currently using Mackay's ROM which is CM 10.1 based. Sometimes when I turned on 2G data, it won't connect at all. When I tried switching to 3G, it stays at 2G and nothing happens. When I switched to airplane mode, the data switched to 3G but the signal bar stays full bar on my drop-down menu and there is no signal, aeroplane icons on the top right corner of the phone. The problem also occurs the other way round when i switch from 3G to 2G. The problem is only solved when i reboot my phone, however after another few minutes or so, I have to reboot again for data connection. Does anyone have a permanent solution for this? As it is frustrating to keep rebooting. And i tried changing APNs. The default APN for me is MiWorld WAP (GPRS). However, the default APN does not really connects. It's like a Laptop having a 'Limited Connection' WiFi. So I can only switch between the other 2 APN with is M1 and Sunsuft Internet, which the problem still occurs. Thanks to anyone who replies.
Have a nice day!
Already tried flashing a newer baseband?
Sent from my LG-P760 using xda app-developers app
Yes, sometimes this happens to me too...but it always did with every CM10/CM10.1-based roms.
I tried many basebands (v20, v28, v30), but it always happens. To me, about twice a week.
I always thought this could be related with the fact that we don't have a baseband made for jelly bean, and so I gave up on this issue.
When it happens, I simply reboot my phone.
And I avoid to use airplane mode, because usually after disabling it (if I left it enabled for more than a few minutes) I can't get network coverage until I reboot.

Thanks for the reply. I will try flashing newer baseband.
//Edit 1 What is the recommended baseband in Singapore? I tested V30B Euro OPEN, but doesn't seem to solve it.
//Edit 2 I read on other threads which says choose the baseband from your region, and i went to download a V30C Singapore version of the firmware and extracted and flashed the baseband. It seems to be working well.
It is quite common now that almost all of our beloved ROMs are "infected" from the well-known issue of signal dropping. The "No Service" indication appears and you're unable to make calls, send messages or use data (you're screwed in other words ). The problem seems to be appearing mostly when the battery is low (about 20% or lower)
While this problem doesn't seem to be getting solved any time soon, I would like to suggest to those who want to have a functional phone (by that I mean make calls), but still want to have a smooth Kit Kat experience, to look for older builds of their favourite ROMs. Basically all ROMs on 4.4.3, do not suffer from that issue that much. You will hardly notice it!
Me, personally I am using Liquid Smooth v3.1 2014-06-14 build, and I have never missed a call, or was unable to make one. I can also confirm that older nightlies of CM do not lose signal as well(2014-06-17 for example)!
I don't know while this particular issue hasn't be solved yet, but I bet our great developers will find a way to eliminate it eventually!

I am very grateful for your post, because I also noticed this issue and it's driving me crazy for a few weeks. I tested almost all available ROM 4.4.4 and everywhere was the same! I did so: clean install + iodak kernel v10 + about 6%/10% battery (no gapps).
When you first start, after a reboot and enter the PIN code to establish a connection with the network was easy and fast in any case. Then I use the "QUICK SETTINGS" - switch, to change
"Network mode" (2G | 3G | 2G+3G). The network was disconnected in order to connect again in a different mode. Unfortunately again, and sometimes third or fourth (at intervals of tens of seconds) could no longer connect. The worst was the last CM11-NIGHTLY: when you disconnect the network, you can not get connected network again, at 4% battery!!!
Only connect the charger meant that after a few seconds the network connection (whether of 2G or 3G) was possible.
I thought it was fault of my device.
Downgrading to 4.4.3 is a good idea. What do you think about LS-KK-v3.1-2014-07-02-p880.zip?
Is there this Signal Issues? Now, I'll test it.

I've already tested it, and it had serious signal issues.
It's funny, but after much testing, it seems to me that the solution is in "the middle of the road":
(3) - LS-KK-v3.1-2014-07-02-p880.zip - (last, no T2FS) loses connection to the network for no reason at a level below 20% of the battery, but it is able to establish connection to the network, but after a while it loses again. Sorry... disqualification.
(1) - LS-KK-v3.1-2014-06-14-p880.zip - In my opinion the disqualification too. Switch (3G/2G) in the "QUICK SETTINGS" does not switch, but only shows what is set as the "Preferred network type" in the settings. After using the "switch" network is disconnected, but again reconnect never occurs at the level of the battery 8% and below.
(2) LS-KK-v3.1-2014-06-23-p880.zip - as in (1), but the switch (2G/3G) works good, and can freely switch the connection types, up to 8% of the battery . Below this value, you will not be able to connect to any network (unless you connect the charger).
Corrigendum: after a few minutes, joined the 2G network at 5% battery. :good:
