Hi people...
As you are aware Galaxy S has maximum of 7 home screen and it can be easily removed or added from EDIT option or NEW pinch grid edit option.
But my problem is, that i am not able to remove home screen panels, every time i try to do it the twlauncher hangs and ask for force close.
Surprisingly right now i am having 9+1 (hidden) home screens.
What should i do now?? ...i am ignoring formatting option.

Come on please reply something i am still stuck with 10 home-screens and i guess because of that my phone hangs frequently.
i don't want to format my phone because all the downloaded contents like Hero of Sparta, Splinter Cell, Bother in arms 2 and similar downloaded game data will be lost + all the saved/played game will be lost too.
OR
Please suggest me some good application which can backup my all apps + its settings or saved data.

On my LG Revolution My SystemPanel App shows about 350 MB memory and 12 GB on the SD card. It also cites System Storage 1 GB, Application Storage 1.5 GB and Cache 193 MB. The SuperBox app shows 1.5 GB "Phone" memory. With about 25 applications "active" and several widgets installed, I still have 134 MB memory left
So far I've found the battery life not great, definitely have to charge during the day with 4lte and wifi on.
Noticed a bunch of the bloatware widgets took up memory even when I deleted them from the homescreen. Used TitaniumBackup to Freeze
Apps I've frozen with no apparent problems (yet).

Ya, coming from the incredible, even stock I would have 100-150 mbs of ram, and rooted I'd have usually 180-210. This phone, having the same amount of ram as that, will be anywhere from 30-100 usually. That's some pretty bad bloat.
In 3g only network, the phone actually has a really good battery(compared to the incredible), I can go all day without root so far, the baddest part is the % i lose just sitting there without use and the screen off, it sucks.
And have you been able to assign Google where Bing had priority before? I have the bing search relatively good, just really laggy.
Thanks for this list! I had started to experiment but kept it on the safe side since we don't have a recovery yet.
I noticed that there is quite a bit more listed in Bloat Freezer over Titanium which was my first freeze app. I tried Bloat Freezer when I noticed that some things that were frozen were still showing running processes.
A couple of notes to add on to this -- I'm running Go Launcher and cannot use any of the LG specific widgets, Friends+, What's New, etc. but:
What's New is still running and has functionality beyond the What's New widget. I forget the details but I think on a missed call I got the What's New app to display missed call, sms and email count from the pull down alerts. It was late and I didn't think twice about it until the next day (which is what prompted me to find out what was still running in the background even though I'm using Go Launcher.
I'm not sure exactly which Verizon app is responsible, but i recently unfroze all Verizon specific apps while experimenting and I was prompted to try the new data usage widget from Verizon. When I originally froze all these apps, that widget had stopped working in stock home. So it is not dependent on your home/launcher, but it is dependent on one of the VZ apps.
I'm tempted to just go down your list and freeze everything all at once, but maybe I'll do it in small batches and report back any findings.

Every time I click on "force close" it just pops up again. I'm about to pull the battery.

I have them frozen and already recieved an SMS, so no hindrance there. I recognize the SNS icon from when I first got the phone (one of the widgets I think). I can't see any effect of having them frozen other than the obvious of course.
Be careful with these, I used Bloat Freezer to freeze a small subset of the apps listed in this thread (and none others) and now don't have a home screen. I turn on the phone, slide to unlock, and then the screen is black (normal indicator icons at the top). Holding home gets me to a recent apps page with no recent apps. Nothing else does anything, I can't even turn off the phone without taking the battery out. Any ideas?
the ones i posted can be frozen with no incident.
of course i use a custom launcher (launcher pro) so i can't attest to the home screen working
however, after freezing some other apps listed in other posts my bluetooth wouldn't work...

Does anyone know what the LG and Verizon hidden menus processes are?
System seems a lot faster now and has better battery as far as I can tell.
Only issue I can think of, is that When I have my BT earpiece on and connected, I can not seem to get music out of the 3.5mm jack and into the car's aux.
Anyone else have this problem? What is the solution?
What wifi tether is everyone using? My market won't update. So if anyone can post an apk that'd be great.
Also don't freeze autorun 1.0 i think it is. That is the connectivity option for our usb and hdmi slots. Without that it'll work but you can't change the options ever. So you'll be stuck with hdmi off or on and usb charge only cause i think it always starts as.

Anyone else realize Latitude and Twitter for LG doesnt show up in Ti Backup yet is running every once in awhile.... or maybe it's just my phone?
Um I don't even remember twitter being on my phone, I use bloatfreezer and pretty much froze everything on the OP list. I don't think there is to much else that you want to freeze with out risking your phone

If you use the stock launcher and then freeze Home 2.2.2 then you will have no home screen.
I use Go launcher EX so I was able to freeze home with no problems.
Only thing I can think of is a factory reset. But I'm sure others have better ideas.
I don't think Twitter for LG (or anything for LG) is active without the LG Home active.
I left lg home active, twitter doesn't show up anywhere in bloatfreezer. I have nothing on my phone that even refers to twitter.
Yea i'm not really sure where it's at. I think it's a sub-app(?) of something like one of those facebook/twitter/etc feed widgets. But every so often it shows up in my "running" folder on Go Launcher EX, and I used to see it in my task killer when I had one but i've never seen it on a list anywhere else.

As major said, and from what i've seen he's right 99% of the time, I haven't seen it since I froze/.bak LG Home. I'll post a screen shot if I end up seeing it again though

we're pretty much able to do that....but the hesitation has been because we have not had a recovery system and it's risky to start deleting any files at all.
However....a recovery system has been through testing lately(yesterday/today) and was released. There's no saying it's perfect but I haven't heard of anyone having big issues. So if you are comfortable with the recovery system available, delete away.

Hopefully you have this fixed already if not:
not sure if this will work but...connect your phone as a USB and hope it connects as a Mass Storage. Go into data/app and delete the Titanium Backup .apk
No idea if this will work, but it's possible that with TiBackup gone it will unfreeze everything.
I have just bought a new Galaxy Note and I think it is really really good, but there's just a few things that I'm not sure how to do and what certain things mean etc:
1. I have only ever had a H symbol with 2 arrows in the notification bar. I thought that I would have a 3G symbol but this has never appeared. Question is, what is the H symbol and is my 3G working? I have just turned off fast dormancy, as I have read that it may drain batter, and now I have an E where the H usually is. What is the E for?
2. I'd like to improve the battery life and I have read on here of a few ways to do that. One of the ways is to make sure that apps don't update too regularly. Where do I actually go to check how often the apps update?
3. I have downloaded a few apps and some have saved to the SD card and some have saved to the phone. Why is this? How do I choose where apps save to?
4. I used to have an iPhone 4 and I was forever double tapping the menu button and closing down apps. As far as I am aware with an adroid phone you don't need to do this? Is that right?

H is like 3.5G its a little faster than 3G bit still not 4G. E or edge is 2G.
You can check in the settings of most apps itself how frequently they auto update
As far as moving apps go you can go to setting then apps and choose where the app is, except for system apps.
To close apps and not have them run in the background you have to long press the home button and then swipe the app you want to close

H is the fastest internet you'll get on your note, the downside of it is that it drains the battery pretty fast. As for me, I switch to it when I want to load YouTube videos, download lots of data and similar. You can download a "3G switch" widget from Google Play to quickly jump between H(3G) and EDGE(the E symbol, slower internet, but much better battery life)
By turning off the automatic sync, you save a lot of data and battery life, you can do that via Settings > Accounts and Sync. Personally, I find it better to manually refresh my email and similar when I need it, but it's your decision.
Since Note has a massive internal memory, you should keep all apps installed to the internal memory rather than the SD card, for the fastest experience, since none of the apps need to load from the slower SD card.
Android handles processes very well by itself so there is no need to manually "kill" apps. If you wish to end some unresponsive ones, you can get SystemPanel Task manager from the Google Play store, it's pretty good.

besides turning the global sync off, you can:
- check the betterbatterystats thread, it may seem confusing at first, but it's worth the effort
- disable gps location
- in all internet apps (e.g. facebook, rss readers, weather etc. ) turn the automatic updates off (or set to every 8/16/24hr)
- if you feel brave, check either autostarts or autorun manager in the market (both apps paid) - based on trial and error you can disable triggers which make apps to autostart, without damaging their functionality
- avoid taskkillers
- check lama (also on market, free), you can set it to do a lot of things, like turn wifi on when you're at home and switch to mobile when not, turn sync and internet off when screen is of etc. etc.

I´m using CM9 , latest version ofc. Under Settings -> Developer options -> Background process limit there is some options to choose. I´m unsig "At most, 2 processes". But, after rebooting the device, the option reset itself to "standart".
My question is : Is it possible to set this command as an startup file in the init folder, that after every restart it will be "2 processes" instead of "standart" ??

Just a thought but I doubt you can as the phone needs more than 2 process to boot up?.....so I'm guessing this won't ever be a persistent or init.d feature,

I´ve the same problem....
But I´ve an idea. This app runs an sh file on startup: search in google play for Autostart (root).
but I don´t know the command to set the background process limit... And I don´t know if theres any...
Or can somone say where th Backround Process Limit is saved?
Pretty interesting feature that saves lots of memory and makes the devices work better; i have been using this feature on my Samsung Galaxy tab 2 7, and still setting it up. Makes thing runs better although sometimes you can kill apps that you want to be running in the background.
Any ideas on his question?.

I'm setting up phones for other people and I have found out that it is the single feature that probably speeds up -the most- most of the phones especially those that are low in the memory department.... Unfortunately to most of the people (that I'm helping with their phones) it is impossible to set this option each and every time that their phones boot so I thought maybe I'd add it a as init.d feature or -maybe so that not to disrupt the booting process- as sth which would run after a timer (which -say- lasts for a minute) runs it's course.
My only question is if anyone know how to enable this feature programmatically (e.g via shell)...

this app works for me, there's an option in settings to stop background processes http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/recent-app-cleaner-t2734053 although you need to be rooted and have Xposed Framework.
Finally figured this out, man was it annoying.
I need it for my 2012 Nexus 7 running Android 5.1.1
It was running slower than molasseses until I changed the data partition to f2fs (make sure you have a kernel and ramdisk that support f2fs!) and enabled this tweak.
It can be done with root access with a single command.
service call activity 51 i32 x
Where x is the number of background processes you want.
If the API changes in the future, it's easy to look it up again.

For now the end of 2019, android 8,9 has been the major platform for recent user's handy phone, the command for those use:

can not be exactly do what you will see in android8 and android9, the major issue was for the activity number '51' must to set it to 42 to Oreo and 47 for Pie, see github issue link (https_:_ //_github.com/flode/SetAndroidProcessLimit/issues/5#issuecomment-546690235 )
That means you should use: `service call activity 42 i32 x` for Oreo and 47 replaced for Pie.

So after some great help by gregbradley and others, I have a rooted T and now have an OTA 195 update.
However I have a couple of questions (apart from my continued quest to find a way to get the phone to save camera output in less compressed fashion.
1) Is it usual for mediaserver to be the 2nd great drain on battery after the screen and ahead of android system?
(there appear to be many web discussions on this, but I could not find a definitive answer. Mine has always been like this even before I tinkered with it, or before I put the sim in (I didn't put the sim in until after I had rooted and updated. I do not have an SD card in there yet (64Gb on order) and I have not added any new pics or movies to the stock provided ones.
2) Can you change where apps are installed? Can this be changed for Google Play apps (like xda) Is the default to install to "phone memory" rather than "internal storage". Given that "phone memory" is only ~ 2Gb, it would be good to install to "internal storage"
3) Are apps on the home screens (eg Walkman) always running, even when not in use (the walkman example is the app 4x1 icons wide and has basic controls on it)?

2) I know that from the "apps" in settings" some apps can be moved, but that appears limited and no default can be set

1) Anything that needs to scan the sdcards for contents will call on the media server. After a fresh flash many apps will be collating their cache so the mediaserver may have a high battery drain, you should never worry about battery drain untill you have run a ROm for at least 3-4 days to let it settle
2) Yes, use apps such as link2sd or app2sd, free in the market. However I have not yet felt the need to do this with a 16gb internal memory
3) Thos e widgets are just shortcuts, e.g. I have a weather app set to refresh every 2 hours...it will be woring in the background whether or not the homescreen widget is on the homescreen or not.
However, do not worry about task killers, since android 2.1 the best task killer is the one that comes with the OS. The only other exception is if you install init.d scripts and supercharge scripts etc, but you may want to leave that for a bit and get used to the phone first.
So I am on the xda app, much better way to view the site than mobile browser .
However, I cannot see what you wrote when I reply.
But it relates to your last point on making customisations. And not just keyboard which prefers US spellings over UK ones .
I am thinking of tinkering with the OS files as I am very upset with the compression of photos. So I am keen by what you say just below number 3.

Change your keyboard or even better your whole phone to UK in language and keyboard setting and it'll propose BE instead of USE.
Greg is correct, the media server goes nuts the first two to three days after (re)flashing or taking up a device. You can improve the situation by keeping your folder structure clean and neat and trash out left over files, old garbage and file system junk.

As for mediaserver, yes all is quiet now.
Not sure about which system files to delete at this stage, but I sure do keep a neat folder structure for my content.
