I just flashed the stock o version, and tried uninstalling the lg sns app, as i thought it is the one that contains Facebook and twitter. After the uninstall my home screen would no longer load and i had to reflash again. How can i remove those apps?
Also on the stock home screen bar how can i change the default messaging link?
Thanks a lot
Ps. I tried searching for these, as i thought these should be common questions, but my searching skills are just horrible.

Is it even possible to uninstall the LG sns apps from stock rom? Are you rooted? For what I know, it is a system app and cannot be uninstalled like ordinary user apps.
Anyway, if you phone's rooted, you can just download titanium backup and either freeze it or uninstall it from there, should be no problem, I do that too, I don't like the sns apps and some other LG bloatware. I don't know about deleting it manually using apps like root explorer or es explorer will have any negative side effects, but it usually don't.
Cheers!
Yes i am rooted and I tried to remove sns and also F-Secure using Titanium Backup, but thereafter i could not get to my homescreen anymore. I will try it again. Maybe it was something else i did, and not the removal of sns that caused the problem.
While rooted, uninstalling them with Titanium Backup works fine for me.
About the default messaging app on the home screen, if you mean by the 4 icons that is always there.. I don't think you can change it,atleast not easily anyway, there is no options for that.
Actually it's very easy to change the bottom icons in the LG Launcher. Enter the apps-drawer, click menu/edit, then just drag the apps you want down to the bottom icons.
Thanks. That was exactly what i wanted. I tried just dragging without the edit part but that did not work. I was also able to remove sns without problems.

I'm currently on Juwes 5.0 ROM and use Launcher PRO as my home screen launcher.
I have noticed that TW Launcher is still running in the background and using quite alot of ram. Can I safely remove TW Launcher or will it mess up other parts of my phone that rely in it?

On stock rom I deleted it, no problem. I use ADW Launcher EX.
Same as the previous poster - I always remove TW Launcher and it's never caused a problem.
Cool thanks guys guess I will be removing it soon then.
What about the stock email and messaging apps? I don't use them either but I'm sure I remembered reading that if you remove one or both of them it will cause problems?

I use Go SMS and they recommend you don't remove the stock messaging app. Not sure about the email, but I've never found a reason to remove it.

Well a good reason to remove it would be because it shows up in osmonitor as using ram in the back ground even though I haven't used it ever!
I think its a shame that android isn't modular enough that these things maybe can't be removed or maybe it is samsungs doing because they never thought that anyone would want to use anything but their apps

Can't help you there, I use the stock email and messaging apps. But, one time after a flash, my mms apps was missing, and i didn't realize it immediately. I had no problem during theses few hours....

I have removed it with Titanium on overcome 4.0, no problems..Using Go Launcher X..
Ok so after months of trying to figure out how to get facebook and twitter for lg off of this phone, I figured it out. My revo is rooted and I have cwm with the decrapped rom from thecubed. The actual apk file is called sns.apk (short for social networking service). I backed it up, then froze the app using titanium backup. Voila! No more facebook or twitter for lg. I don't know if anyone else has figured this out, but I thought I would share
SWEETTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most Excellent find. This should go in the list of useful apps to freeze. Great!!
Any non-rooted solutions??

I really doubt it, but is there a way to remove or freeze apps if your phone isn't rooted? Also, can't you just uninstall the apps instead freezing them? Or does that cause a problem somehow?
Thanks! I was wondering what SNS was...frozen now!

You can uninstall them.. but freezing to me is better.. if we do get the gingerbread update and you are still pretty stock with some frozen apps, you can un freeze and then do the update and you should be fine.. much easier than uninstalling the app and then having to reinstall them.
I noticed after reflashing decrapped 1.1 the facebook for lg icon came back and it also showed up as an option for sharing a pic. I looked in titanium backup and it said it was still frozen, when I hit unfreeze it said apk file not found, so I hit uninstall. That was successful, then I flashed mtmichaelsons revolt rom and since he hasnt gotten bluetooth working on it I reflashed again back to decrap 1.1. The icons came back and I went to tibu again. I hit restore and it said it was successful, but then the icons disappeared. I don't really care if this program is deleted permanently from the phone, but I am wondering why it keeps popping up like that and why it's acting like that in tibu. Not a major issue for me, just odd
Like the title says. How do you uninstall stock applications on the Thrill?? For example...I want to use GO SMS or Handcent...so I want to uninstall the stock messaging application. How would I go about doing that?
You first need to acquire root. Then you have a couple options.
I personally just remove the apps I don't want from ROM zip. I heard there is some GUI that does this for you, but its not hard to delete a couple files.. Located in /data/app or /system/app
After that, sign your zip and flash away.
Or you could download a program from the market and 'freeze' the application. It basically remove it but keeps a hard copy as a backup. I don't know the name of the app, but a simple search will tell you.
Titanium backup

There's an app called "NoBloatFree" in the market. It requires root, and will backup anything you wish to disable/delete, just in case.
If you freeze or remove the phones native messaging app you will not receive any new text messages. I tried and that's what happened.

Certain system apps like messaging should not be frozen or removed as they may cause unwanted consequences. There's some third party launchers (I know LauncherPro does it for sure) that will allow you to hide apps from showing up in your app drawer.

Follow above methods for removing system apps. For the record you CAN remove the stock mms.apk and run gosms with no problems at all. I have deleted the stock mms.apk and use gosms and it handles sms and mms just fine. Handcent however can't handle mms without the stock messaging app but it will do sms just fine without it.

so like always I get my phone from verizon and there are just LOADS of apps that I don't want and will never use. the first thing I usually do is download my browser of choice (xscope) and then I will go into an application and click a link or an ad. you are prompted with a dialogue of which of the browsers you want to use to open I chose xscope and tick the box that says use this as default. I am then safe to un install the stock browser and not run into any problems. I also took out the ones I knew wouldn't interfere with anything like netflix, blockbuster, pre loaded game demos.
my question is , is it safe to remove these moto blur applications, I never use facebook on my phone, I don't twitter...they're wasting space and I'd rather just get rid of them, but my last phone was the moto droid 1 and it didn't have any of this blur bull****.
so are there any complications if I remove my facebook or twitter apps then I click someones facebook link and my phone explodes because it cant find the moto blur app? Also can I get rid of the backup stuff...and Im not sure why...but Gallery has been replaced with 'my pictures' and it has that ****ing red thing on the top which indicates it will upload these to my verizon account....uhhh no thank you....do I have to keep this or can I just install an old gallery and make that default?
I wouldn't remove them, just freeze them. Titanium backup pro is a great tool and really worth the money. There's a lot of apps that can be frozen and not cause issues, check the Android development for the Droid 4, there's a thread about which apps you can freeze. Removing them can cause instability with the phone, and no sbf files have been released

Can't I just unroot it? I know none of the retards at the store will be able to tell the difference...but I figured I would use the Droid 4 Utilities seen here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492843 and just unroot it and give it back? you think it will work?

Normally it shouldn't but....
Edit: Someone created a topic before, can't find it, he deleted the Playstore APK and Playstore stopped working, so if you're going to delete the stock apk's do it 1 by 1 and test if the app still works after you deleted the apk.
This is why I prefer freezing apps instead of deleting them, using titanium backup. (This does require root.)
Pulls the frozen apps from the menu, but you can unfreeze then on the go and use them again.
Ofcourse also prevents them from automatically starting, hate it when apps run that I do not use.
Kind regards, Stefan.
