So I have many questions.
I have a rooted Revolution, with the Revolt Rom 1.5.
I want to change it to ROM: Gingervolt by mtmichaelson, also with a theme Ice Cream Kangwich (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327306)
So my question is; Do i flash it directly over the one i have now? Or do i unflash then flash? Also themes require a flash too right? So how would that work with a rom? And when i do flash, I lose all my apps right? so even the purchased ones get lost so i have to reinstall/download everything all over again?
Also the Kernel: OC/UV 1.5ghz (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371022) So it's basically overclocking but why can't you just use setCPU instead of doing this? What's the differnce?
I will tackle this one... Flashing gingerbread roms over froyo hasn't worked in the past(or now) various problems Bootloops, Sim not activating..just problems in general that's why it isn't suggested...so what you need to do is put the stock recovery back on the phone and see if you can pull the update...or the easiest way is to flash the v7.tot using lgnpst you can find the files and instructions in the development section once on gingerbread you can then follow the instructions to get gingervolt on your phone once you have gingervolt 1.3 you can then put the ick theme on your phone flashing the same way you do anything else...the difference in the kernel is the OC/UV kernel will let you over clock to 1.5 where the stock kernel limits you to 1 and is also running less voltage at 1.5 than the stock is at 1 of course you need something like CPU tuner or setcpu to take control of the situation.

So putting it short, I should put it back to normal, then do the gingervolt correct?
And i don't understand the OC/UV kernel, can you please put it in more simpler terms? What i think is that you're saying basically it lets me overclock my phone with less voltage than when its at normal? therefore increases battery life + increases the speed of my phone?
Btw what should I do with all my apps contacts etc?

Anytime you flash a ROM through Clockwork Recovery, it's suggested that you do a data wipe/factory reset from within Clockwork Recovery. That data wipe will erase ALL your apps and ALL your contacts. However, when you sign back into your Google Account on the new ROM, your contacts will be restored and "maybe" some or all of your apps.
Use an app like MyBackup Root, or Titanium Backup to backup your apps. That way you have a complete backup of all your apps that you can restore after going to a new ROM. Hope all this helps, let me know if it doesn't and I'll try to answer all your questions.

That is strange. I used this on my phone and did not have problems with the modem or service afterwards.
I will try to dig into a little more to see what is going on.
What Modem/Kernal are you using?
Wondering if this will work for me.
I am using AT&T 2.2 Froyo ROM with SuperCurio's KB1+Voodoo Kernel.
Would/Could this work on my phone?
This mod is based off the cognition 4.1.1 release from Design Gears. I have not done anything else with this.
I am running the supercurios KB1 kernal with voodoo and cwm and the stock modem right now. I honestly do not see any way in the code that the modem can be broken with the change I put in.

Ok. I flashed this again.
Really long initial boot and tons of force closes but no message popped up to tell me what exactly it was. After the media scanner stopped and I went into the task manager and cleared the ram it stopped vibrating over and over again. I'll try a reboot and see what happens.
*EDIT still no good. I'm still getting force closes when using data network but not over wifi.

That does not make any sense. upload your original services.jar file and I will compare it to the one i posted for download. Something has to be different.

Unless you have deodexed your rom it will not work. I also just found out that the services.jar file can change. The first file I posted was from my install and it did not work for CB650 Wolf but it worked fine for me. I just took the stock file from the cognition 4.1.1 download and applied the change to that one for the upload.
Thanks CB650 Wolf for help with this. Sorry it caused so many problems.

I've never heard of these changes breaking the modem. The problems he is describing are new to me as well.
The ROM has to be deodexed. So not it will not work on pure stock KB1.

I actually found out that it was a kernel problem, not a problem with this file. If with the Cog kernel if you reboot while charging you run the chance of your phone not registering the sim card once it al boots up.

Well for Cog 5 you will need to flash GB bootloaders. BUT the 3 steps on the OP will work. There some risk when flashing bootloaders, but read up on how to use ODIN and they key combinations, nothing to it =)

If its stock, then its just getting CWM on that phone and flashing it. To get CWM theres a few ways to do that, simplest would be get a 1 click root from dev (AIO toolkit is very useful) and install Rom Manager from the market install CWM. Move the Cog zip file to your phones Internal SD reboot in recovery (Rom manager has the feature to do that) and flash from SD, look for the cog file.

does your rom suffers from the missing widgets problem every time you shut down and boot up again? i am asking because i tried already homebase and aura which have faux's kernel and both have the same problem... CM7 beta has a kernel that does not have this problem...
So I dl and flashed using the instructions you posted.
I originally had blue cronic installed and it seems like most of the ui from it was still running after reboot. Also all of the apps had a fc issue going on so I had to restore. Should I have to flash back to stock before flashing your rom?

I would assume so. The missing widgets problem appears to be linked to faux's kernel, which this has. In faux's thread even people on CM7 that use his kernel experience the widget problem.

It is no necessary to back to stock.
I had CM7 before. After Wipe data, cache, then install, no problem at all.

BTW I try to reboot the phone to see if the widgets missing. Honestly, No problem with BlurHome launcher
The widget problem seems to occur at a random time. It took a few days worth of rebooting to happen to me on homebase. After it happened the only permanent fix was to revert to stock kernel.

Yes you can theme a stock rom. And overclocking can only happen with a kernel that is ready to support it.

Thanks. good to know. I'll be doing it from CWM then.
i am not knocking koush and all those involved with ROM manager. i bought the premium version for my other phones, and i love it, but i have to blame samsung and their method of recovery. rom manager just doesnt play well with galaxy s phones. it 'sort of' works once you have CM7 installed. again, its not rom managers fault, its the crappy recovery we have to deal with.

Should be able to reflash Gingervolt 1.3. I think it has adrenaline in it, but 1.3 is so stable and smooth. I tried a couple of the additional tweaks beyond 1.3, and honestly came up with sluggish results. If you want to save battery, you can go into your programs, and turn off the auto start options. There are a lot of programs that suck up your ram, and you can turn them off. Turn off most of your automatic options. Auto bright. If you constantly have wifi on, you can go into your scripter, and space out how often it pings with a wifi source. You can go in and change your LCD density (if you do that, you will need to adjust it to download from the market)
So, if you are running Gingervolt 1.3 and have done no other tweaks, right now, you are using a pretty battery friendly ROM. If you tweaked beyond that and you are experiencing issues, just reflash 1.3. You will need to reflash Blitz too.

Always do a backup. You never know what can happen. Yes, reflash gingervolt 1.3 and then the blitzkrieg. Don't forget when you reboot the phone it will be set at the 1.0 speed, so you will have to go to setcpu, or whatever you use and adjust it accordingly.

If you clear cache/ dalvik and flash gingervolt I believe you will lose any theme and any other tweak you may have flashed (like supercharger and adrenaline shot). Other than that, it won't get rid of your apps unless you do a factory reset.
To be more clear, go to cwm, wipe cache, then dalvik, then flash gingervolt. Reboot. Then you can go back to cwm and flash any theme or tweak you want to add on.
Shouldn't you wipe data/factory reset in cwm before flashing to get a pure and more while flash am I wrong

If you don't mind losing all your data then ya that would be the best way to go. But it's not needed. I've never done that and everything has flashed fine for me.
